I have never once in my life felt compelled to review any restaurant. But, I am doing that tonight. If you are ever in Durham and want a fabulous meal, you have to go to Pomodoro Italian Kitchen. I had the Manicotti Trio, but instead of having it with their red pepper tomato sauce, I had it with the Alfredo sauce instead. OMGoodness, you will think you have died and gone to Heaven! read more

This is in the rotation of the Jon Miller Lunch Mafia of NCSSM current and retired teachers. We never know how many people are coming. They show up as classes end before lunch and hie out as they begin after lunch. It is attended by many emeritus faculty as well. Service is prompt and helpful. The food is good. The staff has been good to us. It hosts tables full of teachers, policemen, maintenance workers, ladies who lunch, and people hurrying down I-85. The food is good and it comes promptly. This was our first time trying Pomodoro and it did not disappoint. I was a little skeptical after some of the reviews but everything was delicious. We ordered to-go and our food was ready quickly which was great because we were starving. If I had to make a critique it would be that there wasn't enough dressing for the salad, but overall everything was very tasty. We will definitely be back considering we live so close. read more

Service was definitely decent, and I am still trying to figure out the significance of the Model car display in the building. Ordered some Minestrone soup and I'm pretty sure it was straight from the can. Main dish was not as quick prepared and was pretty decent. Pomodoro has nice outdoor seating and the restaurant inside was nice as well. Our waiter was nice and overall the service wasn't bad. The bread was tasty and brought out in a timely manner. I ordered the House Stromboli and it was huge. They definitely gave me enough for my money. The Stromboli was delicious. Nice cocktail bar if you have to wait. I have eaten here three times; it's clean, the staff is helpful and prompt. I had the friend eggplant, pasta and salad every time. It's a large plate of food, ditto for the salad and they have no problem at no charge splitting the meal. I recommend this restaurant. read more

Girlfriend and I got take out. We read a bunch of really good reviews and were optimistic. We ordered the following mozzarella sticks, Caesar salad, penne Alfredo, and bolognese. Mozzarella sticks were extremely disappointing. Half of them didn't have any cheese in them and you could tell they were cheap store bought. How hard is it to bread some cheese and throw it in a deep frier? Alfredo sauce was bland, flavorless, and chunky. Bolognese was also bland and underwhelming at best. Overall very disappointing in the quality of food. Everything was bland, flavorless, and cheap. Would not recommend and will not return. Would rather have gone to Sbarro. I always like to try eggplant parmigiana. The meatless sauce had a very tomatoey flavor very smooth and no acidic bite. If you like it spicier the typical Italian condiments were available on the table. The eggplant had the skin, but it was not tough or bitter. The restaurant itself is nice. We liked being able to sit at a booth. The food is also not bad. A member of our group ordered pasta primavera with pesto sauce. The pesto sauce didn't taste like pesto And was very soupy. on the other hand , he did like the plentiful vegetables. My friend ordered ravioli which were fine. The best of all was the pizza which had a thin crisp crust. we tried a tiramisu and a cannoli. We all agreed that the tiramisu was far better of the two. The cannoli filling was extremely sweet. The reason for the 2 stars is because the we chose to try this restaurant for the first time because there was a 20% discount via Yelp. When we got there our server had never heard of it and when she asked the mnager who told her they were just starting with social media and didn't know how the discount worked so they wouldn't honor it. We decided to stay since we were there , but we felt lied to. The restaurant should take the 20% first time discount off of their Yelp page. read more

I'd like to start by saying that the service was good! I ordered that Salmon and it was inedible because of how salty it was. Salmon shouldn't taste like pure salt. I asked for a grilled chicken breast as a replacement and it wasn't much better. The others I was dining with did really enjoy it. read more

We often get our pizzas here because they are usually very good. They are close to where we live and if called in are usually ready within 20 minutes or so. As all restaurants if they are busy it could take a little longer but they would let you know when you call. Great staff, great food, and if you have the time to sit and eat a wonderful atmosphere. This restaurant use to have consistent pizza and pasta that was always tasty. My last two visits to this place the food was below average. Customer service was fine but the food itself has changed completely. I dined here on and off for 5 years it's a disappointment that this establishment food quality has changed. My husband and I went on Sunday for lunch, and were very pleased to see nice, spaced out seating. Our delicious food arrived, but before we had even started, two other couples were seated adjacent to us. There are no barriers, so this was very close seating, with back to back booths. I want to like Pomodoro. I really, really do. They are only two minutes from my house, and I've been numerous times. Usually I do take out and get the pizza. Their pizza is fine. It's not outstanding, but when I have family in town it does the trick. It's usually ready in 15-20 minutes. Outside of getting pizza to go, I would not recommend eating here. In the past, I have ordered the baked pasta dishes and they have been ok. The pasta dish I had was bland and overcooked.They are not worth they money. Recently, a dinner for two costs 50.00. That included an appetizer, two entrees, and one beer and soda. Given the quality of the food, it should not have exceeded 30.00. If you want good Italian food in that same area, drive across the street to Meelo's. It will run you about the same for a dinner for two, but the food is much fresher and has flavor to it. read more

Today I had lunch at Pomodoro with a group from the office and I was very pleasantly surprised. I had the meat lasagna lunch special that came with a Caesar salad. It was delicious and the portion was huge! I took the leftovers home for supper. The location is a little awkward to get to because of the construction going on in the area, but it was worth it. The eggplant was terrible-- definitely pre-made frozen eggplant from Cosco or Sam's club..... and it was served with no side pasta and no bread. Seriously, what Italian restaurant doesn't server at least bread with the meal? Could the managers be that stupid or is the service that bad? Once I got my food which took a long time, the waitress was gone...never to be seen again... had to go hunt my bill down to leave. Lets take a look at the big picture here. I sing in an a capella group called the Heart of Carolina Chorus. We had a performance up the street at a local retirement village. We walked into Pomodoros last night at 8:30, an unannounced group of 25. We were greated and walked towards a great room located towards the rear of the restaurant no problems. We all ordered food, drinks, beer, everything. Our server, Zach was professional, jovial, and had a great sense of humor throughout the entire evening, a group of loud extroverted singers is a tough crowd at 9pm. I had the sicilian pizza w/pepperoni, sausage, and onions. Loved it as did the other 5 people that tried to grab a piece once they saw it come out. We hung out past closing time. They didnt even kick us out and we were still singing as we walked out the door at 11:00 (they close at 10:00pm). Thanks so much to Josephene, Jordan, and Zach. Our amazing crew last night at Pomodoros!!!! We love you guys so much and hopefully we can come back tonight? kidding. GO check out this amazing italian spot. Lasagna was good. Not much meat. Seafood combo ( in a wine sauce) was not great. The seafood looked like one of those frozen things you can get at most grocery stores now. Way too much garlic. We've been there before and had different fair that was better. Mbe well try the pizza next as it seems to be popular. Or is that due to shortage of pizza restaurants in the area? I had high expectations from the recommendation from the Comfort Inn where we were staying across the street. The martini's drink Special was good. The minestrone soup was only warm broth with minimum and almost no vegetables or noodles, very surprising! Main courses were good and that made it enjoyable! I wanted to like Pomodoro, but the food was just uninspiring. The menu is standards: pasta with red sauce, pasta with meat sauce, lasagna, chicken/eggplant parmesan, chicken marsala. I had chicken marsala and my fiancé had lasagna. I was disappointed; it tasted like it was made from prepackaged frozen ingredients. I've even had better food at the national Italian chains. It's okay if you have more of a plain appetite, but if you're looking for something different or interesting, this isn't the place -- and they didn't do more than an average job with the standard fare we ordered. We haven't bothered to go back there. There are better Italian options in Durham. read more

the atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming, and our server, josh, was so nice and made me feel better about having a mouth full of bread when he came to take our orders. My family & I were in Durham for the day enjoying some of the city's outdoor activities. Afterward we were looking forward to having Italian for dinner and thought we'd check out Pomodoro. What a mistake!! We ordered an appetizer, salads, pizza, & pasta, and everything except for the salad was awful. In fact, one of my family members is doubled over in abdominal pain from her pasta dish. Needless to say, I do not recommend this place. Such a disappointment. read more

Why so many bad reviews?! I've eaten here a few times. I usually get a sandwich-I've had the buffalo chicken and the italian sandwich and they were both amazing! Both had perfect flavoring, and I am pretty picky. The bread is perfectly baked and for the buffalo chicken sandwich is a perfectly mild buffalo tangy mix of chicken with cheese. It melted in my mouth ha ha, I have actually yet to find better. The italian with their house dressing is perfect too. I am picky with my sauces and I think that's why I really love this place. Their food is worth the price, I know when I go to eat here I will leave happy. Service is always great too, I definitively recommend it! They also have amazing deserts and a nice quaint patio area! Unlike other reviewers I found the service very good and fast. We had a funny, friendly server I really enjoyed. Items came out fast. The food was really awful, though. My margarita was so sweet it hurt my teeth, and so syrupy it was actually thick. I don't think there was any liquor in it; if so, it wasn't much. I ordered the linguine with white clam sauce. It was basically a big plate of overcooked flavorless pasta with a few clams thrown on under what appeared to be a tablespoon of olive oil. Well the food is big I'll give you that. Beyond that it was serviceable. Frozen food for appetizers, I had the sampler platter. Way over cooked calamari terrible, tiny breaded fried shrimp (from frozen)bad , onion rings ok, Mozzarella sticks good, fried ravioli good. The Marinara served with it was bland. Fruitti di mare with fettuccine again a large portion, but just ok. Shrimp were good, scallops not so good. Mussels and clams decent. My friend had the potato gnocchi, again plentiful and just ok . If you are looking for a plentiful meal at a reasonable price, ok, but the food is no better than serviceable. read more

OK, the kids love this place. Me, well I would usually opt for another. But this evening things all lined up. Josh was our waiter and food came out pipping hot and quite tasty. My kids have their favorite Alfredo with meat torts. I did the Seafood Special (shrimp, clams, mussels, squid and alas they were out of the scallops). Was a lot of food for one guy. First visit to this restaurant; but, I was in the neighborhood on Sunday evening and wanted to try their pizza. The seating was quick; the service was friendly and efficient; the pizza we wanted was not on the menu; but that was no problem....they prepared exactly what we wanted, cooked it perfectly, and it was great! The eggplant parm was ok with a bland side of spaghetti & sauce; the soup was returned to the kitchen, and one pasta dish had under cooked pasta. Our server was pleasant but inefficient and seemed edgy & exhausted. Not a good combination for a Friday evening out. This seems to be popular with customers with children, probably because of the reasonable prices and bland offerings. The atmosphere is inviting; if the dishes were good, I'd be a regular. The bread was the first bad omen - tasted stale and warmed up (as a few others have noted), the meatball soup continued the trend and I was dreading the entree. I ordered the item marked as new on the menu - lightly breaded chicken. Description looked fairly good - lightly breaded chicken with fresh mozzarella on tomatoes. The real thing could not have been farther away from the description. The presentation was completely unappetizing - two thin pieces of chicken that looked more like fish filet. Tomatoes and cucumbers were cut as if done by a five year old - in random shapes with some mozzarella thrown on top. The thing tasted as bad and bland as it looked. I ate lunch at this place because I was visiting from outside and was staying at the Courtyard Marriott next door and nothing else was visibly close. I don't think I am ever going to step inside this place even if I have to drive 10 miles to get food from a different place. read more
