When I was asking questions concerning the coping and what it entails, he abruptly said unequivocally, that ALL the waterline tile would need to be replaced. My understanding was that, coping does not automatically mean all of the existing waterline tile MUST be replaced. There are situations where removing old coping damages the upper tile course, or where deterioration of the bond beam requires enough demolition hat replacing tile becomes sensible. But that's something a contractor should determine AFTER INSPECTING THE POOL, not treat it as an automatic rule for every coping job. A company that hasn't even seen the project and makes demands like these, is one that I would never hire to do a project for me.
