Very nice vibe- very clean and the guy behind the counter was super friendly and accommodating The Steak & Ale is my favorite- tons of meat and flavor, the crust is very flakey. It's not your Swansons pot pie! My son had the Butter Chicken which he said was very good. I love how spacious the place is, much larger area than the Costa Mesa location. We also ordered Matcha Latte ( ceremonial grade) and my son ordered a coffee drink as well. If you haven't visited this location, I definitely recommend. This was our first time at this location. This time we came in the afternoon and unfortunately missed the collaboration pies. I was excited to try the Tinola pie created by Filipino Chef Tara. The sign was still outside for the collab when we drove by. Parking: There are two spots in the back or you can find street parking. When we arrived, a large truck was taking both of the back spots, so it took us a little time to find parking nearby. Seating: There are several seats inside and a few seats outside. What we ordered: * Chicken pot pie (with half mashed potatoes and half corn). Pop Pie shop is next door to Cesarina on Voltaire St in Ocean Beach. The shop also offers Stella Jean ice cream so you can both ice cream à la mode with your pie. Parking is a challenge and this is a major factor for many. Have passed this shop so many times and never stepped inside because I had just dined at Cesarina. It's kid and pet friendly. Only indoor seating available, no outdoor seating. Staffers were helpful and friendly. The display case shows sweet and savory pies; large and mini, hand held aka turnovers, and cookies. I'm not a hugh fan of pies but my friend has a sweet tooth and couldn't resist ordering a few pies, so of course I had to try a bite of each lol My friend liked the steak and ale and the mixed berry. I'm glad they offer savory options, because sometimes I don't crave sweet. My favs were the quiche, veggie with yellow curry and the key lime. My first try of key lime pie was in Key West Florida and it was the best, this pie tastes good and is a close contender. There are several Pop Pie and Stella Jean shops throughout San Diego. I was a little hungry before work and my husband was dropping me off work so I asked him if he'd get me a little treat to get me through the day. He did not disappoint, he ended up getting me a horchata matcha and a sausage roll and he got himself a steak and ale pie. My matcha was perfectly sweetened, it's more matcha with a little hit of cinnamon from the horchata. The piece de resistance was definitely the sausage roll, the pastry is super flaky and buttery and the sausage is seasoned so well. My husband said that everyone was really friendly and complimented his "fit." When I got home my husband had saved the steak and ale pie for both of us, I reheated it in the oven and the crust was again was so flaky and buttery and the filling my god was so good, there are chunks of steak and mushroom and it was absolutely delicious. On the pricier end for a pie but what you are paying for is ambiance and service and pie variety. The pies were delicious and can be warmed up for you. I would not say it was on par with Julian pie but it does scratch that itch of wanting a good slice of pie. He taught me how to say Frangipane correctly after I butchered it. I love interactions with people like this. In terms of the shop itself, the space was very open, minimal, and clean. Food Consensus: I ordered a Pear Frangipane PiesCream for our table to share and we looooved it. It includes a slice of their Pear Frangipane pie and 2 scoops of Brown Butter Pecan ice cream. There's some crumble, whip cream, and caramel too and it was bomb. I love all of these elements separately, so it makes sense that I loved this dessert. You've got some crunch from the crumble and pie, some tartness from the pear, creaminess from the ice cream, and sweetness from the caramel. It's like music you can taste. We ended up ordering a hot latte too and it was solid. It paired nicely with our sweet treat. Pop pie surprised me! I've always seen it next to Stella Jean but I never tried it out. Came here on a Saturday night around 8pm and was able to order immediately. I got the Green Hog and Cheese per recommendation from the cashier and my boyfriend got the Australian Pot Pie (Vegemite). I got a side of creamed corn and my boyfriend got the mashed potato and gravy. I ended up liking my boyfriend's pot pie way better than the one I ordered. The Green Hog and Cheese was too dry. I tried adding the creamed corn to it to add moisture but honestly it didn't really hit. My boyfriend's Australian Pot Pie with the mashed potatoes and gravy basically made it a Vegemite shepherds pie which was delicious. It was definitely a hefty portion for both of us though, we ended up taking all of it home. This was my first time visiting this Point Loma location since I've only been to the original Park Blvd location before. There was plenty of seating available, it wasn't busy at all.
