    POP'S CHICKEN KEBOB
    Christina P.

I was dropping my son off at his dad's before heading to work and happened to be in the area. I was absolutely starving and just wanted a good meal. After looking up a few nearby spots, this Mediterranean restaurant caught my eye, and I'm really glad I decided to stop in. There was one customer dining inside and several to-go orders waiting, which is usually a good sign. The dining area is fairly small, with mostly two-seat tables. If you're coming with a larger group, you'll probably need to push a few tables together. It feels better suited for couples, solo diners, or anyone looking for a quick lunch rather than a long sit-down meal. Judging by the steady flow of takeout orders, it also seems to have a strong to-go business. The young woman who took my order was pleasant, though not especially chatty. She quickly got back to helping prepare orders, and you could tell everyone was focused on keeping things moving. The food wasn't rushed, but honestly, I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes when it's being made fresh. Once my plate came out, I was impressed with the portion size. I ordered the chicken kabob plate with a Perrier, and my total came to about $20. Considering I had spent $25 earlier that morning on a breakfast that, in my opinion, wasn't nearly as satisfying, this lunch felt like a much better value. These days, quality food isn't cheap, but I'm happy to pay for a meal that's fresh, flavorful, and filling. The chicken was well-seasoned and juicy, and the plate came with a generous serving of rice, fresh salad, and creamy hummus. Not to mention good homeade style pita bread. Before I even finished eating, I called my mom to tell her I had found a new kabob spot that I think she'd really enjoy. That's usually the best compliment I can give a restaurant. If you're in the area and craving a solid Mediterranean meal with generous portions, fresh ingredients, and fair prices, this place is definitely worth stopping by. I'll certainly be back to work my way through more of the menu.

Very grateful to find this Mediterranean place around the area. The portion is generous and the price is fair. The hummus is very creamy and delicious! It is actually warm, not chilled/cold from the fridge. The pita bread is not freshly made from scratch, but it tastes like it was freshly baked. The bread is very chewy and pillowy! I also tried their tzatziki sauce, the flavor is nice but it was a bit watery. The service is great, the staff was very patient with my question regarding dairy related questions. He even advised that the rice is cooked with butter, so I had a full portion of salad instead. The store is small and simple. We waited about 20 minutes for our food since they start cooking once you submit your order. There's a lot of staffs, mainly just in the back. We went on a Saturday for dinner and they were very busy with both in-person and online orders. Street parking can be tough during rush hours.

The Main Street Gem I Didn't Know I Needed I hadn't realized I was missing out on the hot spot of Main Street in downtown Alhambra until I finally visited Pop's. What a great surprise! The space is bright, airy, and welcoming, with plenty of small tables inside and a cozy sidewalk setup for outdoor dining. Service is friendly and genuine, definitely gives off that family-owned vibe. Street parking is pretty scarce, but there's a small lot around the corner on 5th St, which is still convenient. I ordered the Beef Shawarma Plate and grabbed a box of pre-made baklava from the counter to-go for my lunch break. The plate was a generous portion. The beef was seasoned perfectly, complete with fresh pita and a delicious garlic spread. The baklava, unfortunately, wasn't the flaky goodness I'd hoped for. It seemed like it might've gone into the container while still warm, so the texture was a bit off, but the flavor was still great. Would love to try it fresh or crisp next time. Overall, Pop's is busy for a reason. Whether you're ordering to-go or dining in, it's absolutely worth a visit!

I've being frequenting this Alhambra area for a couple months now and always saw people inside of Pop's so I figured they were a really good Mediterranean joint. I also saw a few of my Yelp friends rate them very highly so I had to bookmark them. We finally took the chance and visited this past Sunday a little before 6 PM. There were so many people waiting for their food including at least 10 bags ready to be picked up so that was also a great sign that they must have good food. We both ordered the Pop's Plate with both rice and salad. My gf and I both agreed that the beef was the star of the plate. The chicken, however, was moist for me except for one burnt piece and for her, the chicken was overcooked. The side salad was a really sad assortment of veggies. It was 90% arugula and the rest were clumped up pieces of onion. The cucumber tomato salad was lukewarm and the flavor was lacking. The rice had a very unpleasant milky flavor which indicated that it was very starchy. The pita bread and hummus were good though, along with the garlic sauce that came on the side. Sure, they were extremely busy but to mess up rice that bad was very disappointing. As a Korean-American, I love my rice and usually finish everything on my plate but that milky flavor really turned me off and I ended up throwing away the majority of the plate besides the meat and bread. The price is way too high for a lackluster bowl of Mediterranean food. One thing I will say is that their customer service is top notch. We were also quoted 20 minutes for our food but I think it was ready within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, this was a one and done for us. Despite the high praise for good food, my visit didn't meet expectations. We found our go-to Mediterranean spot the prior week so this spot is off our list now.

I've been coming here since 2024 and the price jumps are honestly hard to ignore. The Pop's Plate used to be $18.99 and now it's $24.99 that's a $6 increase in just two years. Came here on a weekday dinner and dined in. Heads up for summer, there's no AC, just a fan, so it gets pretty warm inside. The only difference between dine-in and takeout is they put your food on a tray, but it's still on a disposable plate. Just so you know. Like other reviews mention, expect a long wait. Most people were picking up to-go orders, and dine-in definitely doesn't get priority. I still waited 20 minutes for my food. I'd recommend calling ahead and ordering "for here" not sure if it actually helps, but probably better than waiting 40 minutes. Only one restroom, so be prepared to wait. I ended up using the one at Awesome Wings next door because the line was ridiculous just to wash my hands. Now for the good: the food itself is solid. Generous portions, flavorful, though some pieces had burnt spots. I wouldn't say it's better than or even equal to Zankou, but considering there's not much Mediterranean competition in the area, it fills a gap. If you live nearby, it's a good spot to add to your takeout rotation for a change of pace. ***Pro tip: They just got added to InKind (25% cashback app), so here's $25 off your next $50 meal if you want to try it out https://app.inkind.com/refer/EUDQIJDO

I've never actually dined in here, I've always gotten their food delivered on Uber Eats. But the presentation is always great. The food is always wonderful. I love that they give you the garlic sauce and a chili sauce in the yellow chilies. I think it all really adds to the experience and I do love a little bit of spice. I've only had the chicken kebab plate the times that I have ordered and have never been disappointed. Even my 4 year old loves the food here. I recommend this place & would also love to try more things here as well.

    BEEF LUHLE (KOOBIDEH) TRAY (ONLY)

Came in on a Sunday afternoon and thankfully, it wasn't too busy! Ordered the Luhle Beef Plate (Koobideh) and Falafel and waited about 15 minutes for food to be ready since they make everything fresh. My thoughts on the food: - Pita Bread: thick and soft! I loved how it's a shareable size and was freshly baked. 10/10! - Falafel: so dry and the flavor was just bland... i liked the crispy outer layer but it just didn't stand out. Wasn't savory enough for me. 5/10 - Beef Plate: the beef skewer was so DRY... and the hummus and sauces provided didn't make it really complement it. Rice wasn't seasoned and cucumber salad was just okay. Overall, didn't hit the spot for me. 6/10 Parking is convenient! Street parking available and free. Very casual environment (paper plates) with lots of seating inside. Cashier was very kind.

I ordered their signature pop's plate to go, and the portion was huge. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the price was very reasonable. When I arrived to pick up my order it wasn't quite ready yet, so I had to wait a little, but the staff at the counter were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is small but very clean, and it's clearly a popular spot with a steady flow of customers. Overall, a solid and satisfying takeout experience, definitely worth a try.

    GYRO PLATE and BEEF PLATE
    Cindy C.

DELICIOUS!! My new go-to Mediterranean spot! We ordered the gyro plate and beef plate and both were beyond what we expected, so satisfying and flavorful! LOVE how many sauces it comes with and the variety of items. The best part was the pita bread... probably the best pita I've ever had - so warm, soft, and fluffy! Service was also great. Def will be back!

Missing one skewer as I couldn't wait to eat it smelled so good. Comes with 2.

Wow. Amazing food in this tiny mom and pop place. Owners are so friendly and the food is to die for. Got the Pops plate with steak and chicken and comes with buttered basmati rice and a cucumber tomato salad with a grilled jalapeño & Roma tomato. Also ordered the Luhle (Koobideh) beef plate and it came with 2 skewers. Both meals had creamy hummus and fluffy pita bread. We order in advance and told them our pick up time which turned out to be the best strategy as when we picked up, the place was full and with good reason. Run don't walk to Pops as this was undeniably one of the best meals in Alhambra

Wow, wasn't expecting it to be busy on a Tuesday just before 4pm. Pops is located on main next to sage bistro. Look for alondro hot wings. ( It's now awsom wings) They haven't change the signage. There's decent amount of parking behind the restaurant. I got the gyro plate all salad And Beef sharwma half half. For the price it's a hardy amount, I ate like 3/4th of it and was pretty full. I would have finished the whole thing but I didn't want to go into food coma during work

Awful wait 55 minutes for our food

The wait for food is ridiculous, over 55 minutes ... yes we placed 7 plates however they rather fill up to go orders than customers who are waiting to eat there ...

I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. I decided on giving the combo bowl a try which consisted of beef, chicken, a healthy dose of white rice, and some vegetables to top it all off. One cool thing this place does offer is slush drinks as well, I ended up going with what I think I recall being strawberry mango? well, it was something like that and it was absolutely delicious, definitely the best part of the experience. The food didn't take too long to come out and I gotta be honest here, I was pretty let down with the food. The chicken and beef were both fine, but without the sauce they were a tad on the dry side and didn't really taste all that great. The vegetables and rice were fine, but nothing to really discuss. Overall, I left Chop Chop Chicken with little to no desire to return again in the future.
