I used to really like this place when they first opened up. Food was good and staff were friendly. However, recently they seem to be over capacity with in store and online orders. Don't get me wrong, lots of orders is good for business, but they don't seem equipped to handle the current volume. As a result their food preparation has declined, with meats and veggies coming out super charred. The front staff seem overwhelmed with all the orders. Most recently I waited almost an hour, between placing my order and then waiting in store, for an online pickup. There were about ten other people waiting for online orders and another ten people waiting for dine in. Hope they space out their online orders with more reasonable pickup times, not "your order will be ready in 15 minutes". If it's gonna take 45 minutes to make my food, just say it up front, I'll just show up later to the store for my order lol. read more

So glad I formally got to try Pop's in Alhambra. The food was great quality and tasted great. Staff was friendly. Food- I'm particular about salmon kebabs because so many restaurants fumble the seasoning or undercook. Pleased to report POP's has the fish down to a delicious science. My boyfriend has the chicken kebab which he enjoyed as well. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. There are also some great Postmates deals, including $12 plates with your choice of chicken shawarma, chicken kebab, or falafel. Each plate comes with your choice of rice, salad, or both, along with a tomato and cucumber salad, hummus, and pita. The pita was fluffy and warm and tasted amazing with the creamy hummus. The cucumber and tomato salad is refreshing, but warm since it's packed in the same container with the protein and rice. The chicken kebabs are juicy and nicely cooked. Ordered UberEats and got my order in less than an hour! Not only did it arrive quite fast but it was so fresh! Got the Chicken Plate (discounted price - $12, usually is $16.99). There are 3 options for the "Pop's Base" - - rice pilaf, lemon vinaigrette salad, and half rice/salad. I chose the half rice and salad. The rice was a little dry for my preference but the salad was pretty fresh. The chicken was very juicy and tender. The hummus was packed with flavor without being too salty. The complimentary flat bread was very soft and fresh. It paired very nicely with the hummus and chicken. The complimentary garlic sauce was very creamy but wished it had a stronger garlic taste. The lemon vinaigrette was slightly tarty and made the salad taste very delicious. Chicken plate (half rice and half salad): I ordered through Uber Eats, dang their food portion is definitely bigger compared to other Mediterranean restaurants. Chicken was so tender and juicy. There were plenty of salad to rice portion. What really stood out was their pita bread, it was fluffier and thicker compared to other places. Tahn Yogurt: Is bottled milk that tastes more like plain Greek yogurt with no sugar. It's more sour and has a slight salty taste to it. The Main Street Gem I Didn't Know I Needed I hadn't realized I was missing out on the hot spot of Main Street in downtown Alhambra until I finally visited Pop's. What a great surprise! The space is bright, airy, and welcoming, with plenty of small tables inside and a cozy sidewalk setup for outdoor dining. Service is friendly and genuine, definitely gives off that family-owned vibe. Street parking is pretty scarce, but there's a small lot around the corner on 5th St, which is still convenient. I ordered the Beef Shawarma Plate and grabbed a box of pre-made baklava from the counter to-go for my lunch break. The plate was a generous portion. The beef was seasoned perfectly, complete with fresh pita and a delicious garlic spread. The baklava, unfortunately, wasn't the flaky goodness I'd hoped for. It seemed like it might've gone into the container while still warm, so the texture was a bit off, but the flavor was still great. Would love to try it fresh or crisp next time. I've being frequenting this Alhambra area for a couple months now and always saw people inside of Pop's so I figured they were a really good Mediterranean joint. I also saw a few of my Yelp friends rate them very highly so I had to bookmark them. We finally took the chance and visited this past Sunday a little before 6 PM. There were so many people waiting for their food including at least 10 bags ready to be picked up so that was also a great sign that they must have good food. We both ordered the Pop's Plate with both rice and salad. My gf and I both agreed that the beef was the star of the plate. The chicken, however, was moist for me except for one burnt piece and for her, the chicken was overcooked. The side salad was a really sad assortment of veggies. It was 90% arugula and the rest were clumped up pieces of onion. The cucumber tomato salad was lukewarm and the flavor was lacking. The rice had a very unpleasant milky flavor which indicated that it was very starchy. The pita bread and hummus were good though, along with the garlic sauce that came on the side. Sure, they were extremely busy but to mess up rice that bad was very disappointing. As a Korean-American, I love my rice and usually finish everything on my plate but that milky flavor really turned me off and I ended up throwing away the majority of the plate besides the meat and bread. The price is way too high for a lackluster bowl of Mediterranean food. One thing I will say is that their customer service is top notch. We were also quoted 20 minutes for our food but I think it was ready within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, this was a one and done for us. Well, I met my niece here for lunch the other day, and we were quite surprised to see that it was very packed. We didn't go in at lunchtime. It was more like 2:30 PM and we felt like we had beat the lunch hour rush, but apparently it is that good. And let me just say it was that good. It took a bit long so if you're in a rush, plan to be patient. And the parking is a little tricky, so good luck with that. I've never actually dined in here, I've always gotten their food delivered on Uber Eats. But the presentation is always great. The food is always wonderful. I love that they give you the garlic sauce and a chili sauce in the yellow chilies. I think it all really adds to the experience and I do love a little bit of spice. I'd recommend calling ahead and ordering "for here" not sure if it actually helps, but probably better than waiting 40 minutes. Only one restroom, so be prepared to wait. Wanted to like this place, but as someone else mentioned on Yelp here, they seem to prioritize to-go orders. We're dining in but waiting 40mins to an hour for our food after ordering with no end in sight on the to-go orders being prioritized is quite crazy. And we already checked in to make sure there wasn't a mistake roughly 30mins into the wait. And we just ordered 2 items, a falafel plate and salmon bowl. Pretty poor dine in experience if you are trying to eat quickly inside a fast casual place. I placed my order about a minute after my friend ordered, yet, it took over 20 minutes to prepare. My friend's order was prepared within five minutes. The sauces are not too flavorful and the gyro was greasy and thinly sliced but moist. Store is clean with loud music playing in the bathroom. This is good for small groups of 2-3 for dining in. To be honest, I don't think I would've dined here if it wasn't for a friend who recommended it. The food unfortunately didn't live up to the hype. I ordered Mom's plate which gave me a chance to sample both the chicken and beef koobideh. Flavor wise, the chicken was good but sadly the pieces of chicken breast was dry. Again the flavor of the koobideh was good but the texture of the beef was a bit odd to me. It wasn't like your normal ground beef but more like a shredded, then minced/chopped which resulted in a weird texture. Not bad but not what I was expecting. I did enjoy the cucumber and tomato salad but the garlic sauce was quite overpowering. It wasn't balanced and tasted like I was eating raw garlic. Did enjoy the hot pita bread and hummus. If I do head back, I think I'll have to try shawarma plates. Otherwise, I think I'll satisfy my Mediterranean cravings with Raffi's. read more
