We tried the lunch special for their grand opening today and were really impressed! Not only did the food come out quickly, but everything was so delicious and flavorful. The meat was soo tender. It was literally falling off the bone. We received complimentary soup and side dishes. The restaurant also has a cute, cozy interior, and the service was super friendly. I wanted to like this place more because the staff is extremely welcoming but the food doesn't taste the best (yet)! We ordered the squid hot plate and the bossam which both were small portions in my opinion for the price. The squid hot plate had way too much sugar that are rice crystalized within a minute and it was left super hard. The sauce was way too sweet and it was not spicy at all. The bossam needs some work. They gave us really large pieces of cabbage stem and they were hard to chew and bite on. Usually bossam has thin cabbage pieces to properly wrap and eat bossam. The garlic used is not fresh garlic slices like I'm used to and they use jarlick. The sides are good, I think the best part of the meal was the bachan. For the same price or cheaper I think I'll just stick to going to Ktown for Korean food. read more

Finally a Korean food restaurant in Alhambra! I could not wait to try this place. I love Alhambra for all the free parking structures, it just makes it so easy to park and enjoy your choice of craving! They start you with that delicious made bone broth which is so rich and flavorful! The staff was nice and attentive! Hubby & I have dined in once for lunch on a Sunday, and we thought it was okay. First impression is that their meat portions are quite little. Their banchan and complimentary broth are good. I was not a fan of their Sullungtang (#3), as I feel you can get better elsewhere around SGV. Mixed meat amount wasn't very much and I didn't feel like the broth was thick enough. We also ordered their BBQ Combo (#28) with Bulgogi & Cold Broth Noodle. Again, bulgogi portion was a bit small. I did like their Cold (Buckwheat) Noodles. I did see that their specialty is Ganjang Gejang (Soy Raw Marinated Crab), which I will have to try with another visit since we just had some when we visited Seoul...and would also like to try to their Bossam. Stopped by Dae Mun since I heard it was the newest korean restaurant in the valley. It was described as the sister restaurant of Sun Nong Dan so I was intrigued. We ordered the vegetable pancake, bulgogi and naengmyeon combo + galbi jjim with cheese. The vegetable pancake came first and it was good but slightly too crispy/fried for me. There was also seafood in it and I got confused because it was advertised as vegetable (and I don't eat seafood). The galbi jjim was just as heavy as other restaurants but a lot smaller than expected with the potato being uncooked and crunchy! If we had ordered it alone for our party of 6, we definitely would not have been full. Lastly, the bulgogi was a bit flavorless and the naengmyeon (my first time trying it!) was a little too sour for my taste - noodle chewiness was on point though! Overall, don't think I would come back. I did really enjoy their walnut peanut side dish and the bone broth shots (lol). read more

Went to try this new Korean place in Alhambra, overall not too bad for Korean food, total came out to be around $25 per person. Highlights: 1. Complementary bone broth! This is probably the only place I've ever been to that serves you bone broth for free 2. Side dishes - refillable (except for the premium one on the white place), and goes well with rice 3. Oxtail soup - soothing soup, came with a good amount of oxtail bones, served fresh in a pot I think this place has a lot of potential and I had a pleasant experience trying it out. I like how it is conveniently located on Main Street, and the interior was quite nice. We also had fairly good service, although it took a while for me to get my check. The Korean food scene in LA is highly competitive, so I'm hoping this place can differentiate itself from other restaurants by the time of their grand opening! read more

We are so happy that a decent Korean restaurant with extensive menu has opened close to our home! The ambiance and set up was modern and clean. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. My husband dropped a spoon and a new one was waiting for him above his head as he was picking up the dropped utensil. Also the staff voluntarily kept our last bowl of rice warm and served it only after we finished our first two bowls. The extra mile in their attention and hospitality really made the dining experience so pleasant! We had their pork neck soup, army stew, and grilled galbi. Amazing Korean food addition to the SGV/Alhambra area! The service was top notch and it's very clean inside. First off, Daemun is very generous in refilling pan-chan (side dishes) and there's a plethora of options. Our table really loved the fried tofu and the kids loved the potatoes. Everyone get served beef broth as a starter, and kids got a bowl of rice mixed with beef broth. Hospitality 10/10! Our large group shared a galbi-jim and it was rich and flavorful! The last time two times I've had Korean food in the SGV area in the recent years have been terrible experiences. I usually get Korean food in Orange County but I've been trying more out here when I'm with my gf. Here's what we ordered: **Dolsot Bibimbap: First off, presentation was spot on with the variety of colors with the egg right on top. Once we mixed it up, it was mostly rice. There was a very small amount of meat; about a three finger pinch so basically nothing. The gochujang served with the bibimbap was one of the worst we've had. It had no sweetness to it and was too vinegary. Ratios were way off and was terribly by itself. (2/5) **Mul Naengmyun: Very refreshing but there were too many big blocks of frozen solid broth. After finishing all the liquid, there was about 30-40% of the whole dish frozen. The portion of noodles was very low. I had a couple chopsticks worth of noodles and was finished so quickly. The most disappointing thing about this dish was that there was no meat. Flavor was actually really good but unfortunately, it failed in every other category. (2/5) **LA Galbi: Highlight of the evening was the LA Galbi. The bone was very small and the meat had very good flavor. (5/5) The banchan were hit and miss. The radish muchim was very good and had great flavor. I personally also liked the squash and seaweed dish too. The mook/muk, ojingeojeot, and kimchi were insanely salty. Ojingeojeot is one of my most favorite banchans of all time but this was easily the worst one I've had. The yuksu (bone broth) they served in the beginning was amazing and refreshing. The service was good but the waiters don't speak any Korean. I ordered in Korean like I do at any other restaurant but the guy repeated the order back in English. There were only a few Korean people I saw in the restaurant including someone resembling the manager, another front of house employee, and one woman cooking the food in the back of house. Food was honestly very disappointing and the banchan isn't anything to write home about. Service is good but I expect to be able to order in Korean especially at a restaurant like this that serves traditional Korean food. They've been open for about a month now and it looks like they're still in their soft opening phase. It also looks like they're rotating out their banchans every week to see what the customers like. They have a small parking garage directly behind the restaurant offering 2 hours of free parking. Other than that, there's plenty of street parking available on Main St and 4th St. I'm currently 0/3 for Korean restaurants in the SGV area and I would skip this spot for now. read more

3 stars It is with some sad news that I have to give this new restaurant a lower star rating. Firstly, I understand that they are still new and still hiring. Secondly, I came on a Sunday night and maybe they weren't staffed properly. Thirdly, because they're so new, maybe some staff members are still training. With all that said, these were the things I had an issue with: Upon my arrival, it was 7pm and there were plenty of tables open. The host (maybe it's the restaurant manager?) puts down my name on a list and said it would be a 20 minute wait. Ok, fine. I didn't get seated until 7:30pm, which is fine-whatever. In that 30-minute waiting period, the manager closes the front door, but it's locked, so one of the staff members from outside has to knock to get in. I open the door for him after checking with another staff member that it is ok to let this guy in... who locks the door during business hours? In the meantime, other people ahead on the list get seated. Fine. Anyways, I get seated at 7:30pm and order my food. BUT, everyone who came in after me, got seated right away. 15 minutes later, my banchan comes out, and another 15 minutes later, my order comes out. All is fine. The server, who was great btw, offers to refill the potato banchan and he returns with the news that they ran out. Also fine. BUT, here is the kicker, 2 young ladies come in around the time I've finished half my soup and, I think they might know the host, and they were given the banchan plus the potato banchan. Look, just tell me there are no refills for solo diners. It is FINE...my feelings will not be hurt if I'm told the truth, but I am extremely disappointed that I was lied to. I'm not blaming my server b/c I understand that instructions in any hospitality business are coming from the top-down. Ambiance: they did a lot of remodeling to look like an Ikea catalog, but whatever. It was neat, clean, modern, and devoid of any culture like so many modern Asian restaurants. Whatever positive impression I had of the restaurant design is completely neutralized by the above stated experience. 3/5 stars. Banchan: pickled peppers were decent (4/5 stars), kimchi (4/5 stars), broccoli w/ sesame dressing (4/5 stars), stirfried fish (4/5 stars), & those darn spicy POTATOES (5/5 stars). Budae Jigae ($19.95): Frankly, individual servings of army stew have no business being $20 b/c in many restaurants, a huge family-sized budae jigae would be $45-55 before tax. This was good, but not worth the price. I'd still get it again if I ever came back. 3.5/5 stars. Coke ($2.50): we all know this is a rip-off, but I was hoping to support a local restaurant regardless of what happened earlier. Free private parking in the back or free street parking. A mixed bag, with most of the stars going to the excellent staff that was highly attentive and nice, doing the best they can with the soft opening hiccups. Pros: + Again, staff was very attentive and nice. They offered bone broth in a cup for a very cold rainy day to start before waters, although maybe to make up for the lack of hot water somehow when we were there. Sounds like a broken hot water machine. They checked up frequently, so no issues with getting staff attention. + Clean and nice simple feel to the restaurant (although arguably a must for a new place), although the tables on the side has very tight spacing when filled up. My fiance had to sit next to me rather than across from me since the other table made it hard to sit in the chairs right behind them. + Banchan was decent, with a unique broccoli option that I don't think I've seen at other places. Seems to be free for refills if you asked. Cons (unfortunately all food here): For the price point, the food left quite a bit to be desired. Best way to put it is for almost a $20 bowl of soup, it felt a bit average. My yukhoe bibimbap is $27, yet I'm not quite sure if I'm getting great beef plus I wished the ingredients were more finely cut to make eating easier because I was navigating a prickly salad and giant chunks of radish versus truly enjoying a mouthful of rice given how the side was presented or paired here. This was a spicy dish, which I didn't quite handle as well either and don't think it was clearly noted on the menu as such. The portions were decent, but I don't think the pricing met the expectations from an ingredients standpoint. With so much competition in the growing array of Korean places in the SGV, I could probably get similar, if not the same dishes, for less and still would be very flavorful. Another table who came in before us seemed to be sitting for some time, but their galbi took forever in terms of the wait and they were served their food well after we already ate, so another soft opening kink. I guess I'm lucky our dishes didn't take as long and it looks like the staff kindly comped that table some drinks for the wait, but just know what you're heading in for during this phase of the restaurant opening. read more

This new Korean restaurant just soft opened on Main Street in Alhambra and I had a really enjoyable experience. The interior is super spacious with plenty of seating and the staff is very informative and attentive. They start you off with a cup of hearty soup that was really comforting! For their sides they brought out spicy fermented skate fish which was really unique and had a crunchy texture similar to radish. I ordered a cold noodle and my friend got the sullungtang. Their cold noodles were really good with a nice chewy texture and a tangy flavor. The sullungtang tasted good and you can season to your liking. The dishes here are on the pricier side, though nothing out of the ordinary nowadays. They have other dishes that I would want to try like their Galbi jjim and Galbi tang. I was randomly browsing Yelp for new restaurants and I saw that this brand new Korean restaurant was in soft opening, right next to Bobacraft Cafe. I saw that this restaurant also had yukhoe, or Korean beef tartare, which my friend enjoys. So I decided to come here with some friends for lunch. Since the restaurant was in soft opening, there were plenty of seats available despite us going on a weekend. We were seated right away. The restaurant is super clean and the spacing is quite generous. The staff are super attentive. We had a big party, so we ended up sharing multiple items. We shared a bossam, dolsot bibimbap, yukhoe, budae jjigae, and hemul pajun or seafood pancake. The banchan were super unique, and included sweet fried peanuts, kimchi, and also skate, a cartilaginous fish akin to stingray. The unique banchan was a treat. The seafood pancake was my favorite dish. The batter was quite different and had a tempura like texture to it. The yukhoe or beef tartare was quite good too. I also loved the bossam or pork belly, which came with generous spicy fried chicken and various other toppings. Every dish I had at this restaurant was amazing and well done. 4.5/5 I didn't realize it was a soft opening when I came. They provided a beef bone broth and it was a warm, flavorful start to our meal. We tried the green onion pork belly dish and the yukhoe bibimbap. The sides were good, seasoned well, and refillable, except the two they were making set amounts daily. I wasn't expecting the green onion pork belly to come with rice, but I did like the garlic flakes and how the rice crisped up on the bottom. I was expecting thicker cuts of pork belly like samgyeopsal, although this version with the thinner slices was also enjoyable. So excited there's finally a Korean restaurant on Main St! There are plenty of Asian restaurants in the area, but we were really missing a Korean spot, so I'm glad this one opened. We ordered the mixed beef soup and the pork belly plate. The mixed beef soup was absolutely perfect--just a heads up that you season it yourself to your own preference, which I really liked. Came to try The Dae Mun and it was not bad! We got the oxtail soup - which comes with 3-4 pieces of oxtail and one of their galbi + cold noodle sets. The bibimyun was spicy but large portion. The galbi in the set is smaller than the full portion but still tasty. The soup was not super flavorful but a little on the lighter side. I love how they have a lot of banchan and you can refill the banchan as many times as you want. I really liked the potato and fish cake banchan. I'd love to come back and try some of their other menu items. Service is very very nice. It almost makes the whole meal a little better because of how hospitable everyone working here was. They have one gender neutral restroom that's pretty large and clean. Lots of free parking and street parking all around. read more

friends can attest that i had been wanting to try since they opened. happy to report i don't have to go to ktown to get my fix! for sunday lunch, the place was surprisingly empty even though they had just opened for the day. sat down to cups of piping hot beef broth already on the table. kids enjoyed it even though it has a slight kick of white pepper. menu was super expansive and soondubu was noticeably absent - likely an intentional move due to other restaurants serving that already. ordered bibimbap for the kids, buchujeon and sullungtang. i had read another review that kids received complimentary bowls of rice and broth but i had completely forgot about it, so i was pleasantly surprised when our server brought out two big bowls of it. honestly, one bowl was enough for both our young kids. the broth is the same complimentary beef broth. love how accommodating and inclusive they are! in this economy and having picky kids, we were so appreciative! -banchans were delicious - i especially loved the squid since that's my fave. -bibimbap was standard - i didn't end up using the sauce as i ate it with the squid. buchujeon is massive and when i had ordered it, our server, jacky, said there was some seafood in it and if that was alright, either for the kids or allergy purposes. interesting that it doesn't say on the menu description. would have loved for it to be crispier, but it was still good! -sullungtang came in with a rolling boil. the noodles inside were perfectly cooked and broth was creamy and cozy. my eldest who normally doesn't eat much ate quite a bit. i was worried when i didn't see soondubu on the menu. the food was a hit for everyone! shoutout to jacky, who was friendly and brought us all our needs (extra bowls and silverware, napkins, banchan, etc). need to try the marinated crab soon! read more

A friend told me that a new Korean restaurant opened up in Alhambra so we went to try it after a long day. It hit the spot! The Dae-Mun did not disappoint. They had some awesome banchans! I was obsessed with the egg plant and pumpkin! Loved the tricolor florets too and sprouts as well as marinated squid. They even welcome you with some hot beef broth! Bimbap was excellent as well my beef rib soup, meat fell off the bone! So tender and flavorful! We were given a hot bone broth in a cup to start with and asked for barley tea; both warmed up my belly before the meal. We ordered the mixed bone broth and a combo with kalbi and cold noodle soup. The kalbi was very tender and flavor was good. The noodles were in clumps in the soup, broth was good and there was quite a bit of pickles in there plus a slice of pear and meat. The mixed beef broth needed a little more umph of bones in there. Not a fan of the squid side dish, kimchi and pickled cucumbers needed a little more flavor, only tasted the acidity. The fish cake was a little chewy, veggie dish was good, not sure if it was sesame oil but it was something really aromatic. Caramalized lotus roots had good flavor, also a bit chewy. Good Korean bone soup here. I really like that they give you some bone broth. They were super helpful in introducing the menu to us and helping us pick our item. The space is spacious and parking plentiful as well. Overall great unique addition to Alhambra's downtown! read more

This place just opened. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. I got their yangji sullungtang, dolsot bibimbap, and chive pancake to try. They started us off with some complementary broth and a bunch of banchan. The broth was umami, meaty, and mellow and all the banchan tasted pretty fresh and light. Nothing too pungent. My fave was probably this pepper one. The suluntang came rice, noodles, brisket, and a side pot of green onions and salt to season to taste and when you added it it helped to unlock the deep, comforting light beef flavor of the broth. Course you gotta mix the bibimbap and add some sauce and the rice got that nice crispy, toasted, bottom. Very comforting and yummy. It didn't come with any meat tho. It did come with like this miso soup side tho. This was my first time having a Korean chive pancake and it was really good. They hand cut it table side and it had a Lightly crisp outside with a chewy, perfectly savory and fragrant inside. They also told me to pair it with this slightly sweet savory soy sauce which did take it to the next level. Portions are kinda small for the price but overall this place is still lowkey pretty good. They're currently in soft opening and we came here on a weeknight just as it started to get busy. I could tell that staff was a bit overwhelmed but they handled it well. They serve you a cup of complimentary bone broth to start off that I couldn't stop sipping on. We got the galbitang and seafood pancake to share. When the galbitang came out, we were so enamored by how clear the broth was. Super clear broth for being so flavorful. The beef was tender but you def had to use your hands to not waste any meat on the bone. They were generous with the seafood on the seafood pancake and you could hear how crispy it was while they cut it into slices for you. Overall, delicious food with amazing service and I'm so happy they opened another korean restaurant in the area :) read more
