Stoked to have a Korean comfort food spot in the neighborhood! I'm so happy The Dae-Mun opened in Alhambra. Our area's mostly been KBBQ on Main Street until now, so this is a very welcome addition. The restaurant has only been around for a couple months but judging by the typical steady line of patrons outside, it's already become a hit. On our way to the movies, my husband and I noticed the line was shorter than usual and took it as a sign to pop in for an early dinner. We were immediately greeted after walking into the spacious interior. Much bigger than I expected, with a second, even larger dining area past the register. Every team member, from the host to our server to a gentleman (possibly a manager) helping out, was super friendly and welcoming. We were seated right away, and before our food even arrived, we each received a piping hot cup of bone broth, a delicious and perfect for warming up the taste buds. A huge plus for me: I have a pineapple allergy, and as soon as I mentioned it, the gentleman came out specifically to let me know the LA Galbi contained pineapple and offered to swap it out. I really appreciate the heads up and care for my safety! I'm a sucker for all the banchan (side dishes) that come with Korean meals, and The Dae-Mun does not skimp! The kimchi was so good, and our server happily replenished it. She even checked in during the meal to see if we wanted more. Here's what we got: -Spicy Pork Hot Stone Plate (Maeun Dwejigogi Doplan - B15): Came out sizzling, smelled amazing, and tasted just as good. Not quite as spicy as I expected but packed with flavor. The charred bits stuck to the stone were absolute perfection. -LA Galbi: (Couldn't eat due to my allergy but my husband loved it.) Tender, flavorful beef short ribs. He only wished there was extra marinade to mix into his rice. First impression of The Dae-Mun is incredibly positive! Grand opening Korean restaurant in Alhambra CA. Very good Korean food. No parking at the restaurant so we needed to find street parking. Walked in around 6 pm. It was packed so we had to wait about 20 minutes. We ordered the Dolsot Bibimpap. It was a Korean hot stone rice. Very warm and tasty. Also we ordered Mul Naengmyeon it was a cold noodles it was very refreshing. The last item we ordered was Gabli Jjim braised beef short ribs. It came out in a sizzler hot plate. The 9.99-13.99 weekday lunch special from 11:30am-4pm is what made us come back. It's clear their restaurant was not prepared to serve this many people during their lunch special hours on a Friday. My husband got a gamjatang soup thing that had a lot of flavored meat and bone. 13.99. It's good but if you don't like perilla, stay away from this as the broth is like perilla infused. My friend and I got the fatty brisket soup (10.99) which was a flavorful beef bone soup with some meat and noodles. I highly recommend it. The sides were bomb but the service was hella slow cuz i guess they were busy, never got our refills of sides. They took forever to take our order and never came to our booth beyond giving us the food we ordered. I wish that they just had a serve yourself side bar (just charge me an additional $5 or something idgaf). Like it was so slow I'm ready to clock in and start helping them. Didn't feel like cooking the other night, so we decided to give The Dae Mun a try. At first glance, it looked pretty quiet, but as we walked further inside, we realized the restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside. We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in. Since we were ordering to-go, one of the staff members kindly helped us place our order and made the process quick and easy. Hubby and kiddo both ordered the Galbi Tang, while I went with the Yangji Sullung-Tang. Everything came with rice and an assortment of side dishes. The soups were comforting and satisfying--the broths were light yet packed with flavor, making them perfect for a hearty meal without feeling too heavy. Of all the side dishes, the potato salad was my favorite. It was creamy, slightly sweet, and the perfect complement to the soups. We came on Friday for their lunch special. There is parking at the back which was no issue. We came a few minutes after they opened and it was pretty empty. A man seated us right away and served us a cup of hot beef broth. He came back a few min later to take our order and left. As we waited for our order, more people were seated. At this point, it was noticeable that they were severely understaffed. There were only two people serving, taking orders, seating people, and cleaning up. We waited 30 min for our food and had to flag the man down to check on our food. We saw three tables get their food before us even though we arrived first. What was worse was the female server was being very aggressive serving the food on the cart. She pushed so fast that we saw the soup spill out of the bowl. When we finally got our soups (the Chadol sullungtang), we were very hungry. The sides were decent but only got refills once. We asked for water but that was forgotten. I don't know what happened. I tried them during their soft opening and it was delicious. But I ordered for takeout the other day and it feels like their portion size decreased which makes this place too expensive for what you get. I ordered bibimbap and the sauce was a little too light in flavor for my taste. But I swear it was good the last time I ordered. So I know bibimbap is usually just a mix of banchan and rice, but I think it's kind of lazy to use what you give out for free as a part of the meal. I wanted to like this place more because the staff is extremely welcoming but the food doesn't taste the best (yet)! We ordered the squid hot plate and the bossam which both were small portions in my opinion for the price. The squid hot plate had way too much sugar that are rice crystalized within a minute and it was left super hard. The sauce was way too sweet and it was not spicy at all. The bossam needs some work. They gave us really large pieces of cabbage stem and they were hard to chew and bite on. Usually bossam has thin cabbage pieces to properly wrap and eat bossam. The garlic used is not fresh garlic slices like I'm used to and they use jarlick. The sides are good, I think the best part of the meal was the bachan. Hubby & I have dined in once for lunch on a Sunday, and we thought it was okay. First impression is that their meat portions are quite little. Their banchan and complimentary broth are good. I was not a fan of their Sullungtang (#3), as I feel you can get better elsewhere around SGV. Mixed meat amount wasn't very much and I didn't feel like the broth was thick enough. We also ordered their BBQ Combo (#28) with Bulgogi & Cold Broth Noodle. Again, bulgogi portion was a bit small. I did like their Cold (Buckwheat) Noodles. I did see that their specialty is Ganjang Gejang (Soy Raw Marinated Crab), which I will have to try with another visit since we just had some when we visited Seoul...and would also like to try to their Bossam. Stopped by Dae Mun since I heard it was the newest korean restaurant in the valley. It was described as the sister restaurant of Sun Nong Dan so I was intrigued. We ordered the vegetable pancake, bulgogi and naengmyeon combo + galbi jjim with cheese. The vegetable pancake came first and it was good but slightly too crispy/fried for me. There was also seafood in it and I got confused because it was advertised as vegetable (and I don't eat seafood). The galbi jjim was just as heavy as other restaurants but a lot smaller than expected with the potato being uncooked and crunchy! If we had ordered it alone for our party of 6, we definitely would not have been full. Lastly, the bulgogi was a bit flavorless and the naengmyeon (my first time trying it!) was a little too sour for my taste - noodle chewiness was on point though! Okay, I've tried this place on two different occasions ordering very different things to see how it compares to other korean spots... Yeah I'm sorry, maybe i'm ordering the wrong things... Service is great and the place is clean and modern. Food: Banchans are unique, their complimentary broth is delicious... My sister ordered cold noodles, said it was ok. not impressed. I was not impressed with their Yukhoe. It was my first time having it and I wasn't sure what I was expecting but it was just.. too sweet and bland and not what I imagined. Their Buchu Minari pancake was not consistent. I came on two different occasions and they were prepared differently. Also... I HATE when my pancake is sprinkled with panko... Second time I tried their Somori Gomtang but it tasted like old beef and there was minimal slivers of protein in the broth. I was so disappointed in the quality and the quantity. Went to try this new Korean place in Alhambra, overall not too bad for Korean food, total came out to be around $25 per person. Highlights: 1. Complementary bone broth! This is probably the only place I've ever been to that serves you bone broth for free 2. Side dishes - refillable (except for the premium one on the white place), and goes well with rice 3. Oxtail soup - soothing soup, came with a good amount of oxtail bones, served fresh in a pot I think this place has a lot of potential and I had a pleasant experience trying it out. I like how it is conveniently located on Main Street, and the interior was quite nice. We also had fairly good service, although it took a while for me to get my check. The Dae Mun has a classically modern Korean feel and one of the stand outs were the complimentary hot bone broth drink wassuch a good idea and I loved it. The green onion pancake (buchu minari jeon) was huge and had good flavor but it wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it - I think they should serve it on a hot stone plate to limit it from getting soggy. The galbijimm was very tasty as well and the vegetables really soak in the delicious sauce especially the broccoli. The meat was not chewy, but it also wasn't as tender as I would have liked. The last time two times I've had Korean food in the SGV area in the recent years have been terrible experiences. I usually get Korean food in Orange County but I've been trying more out here when I'm with my gf. Here's what we ordered: **Dolsot Bibimbap: First off, presentation was spot on with the variety of colors with the egg right on top. Once we mixed it up, it was mostly rice. There was a very small amount of meat; about a three finger pinch so basically nothing. The gochujang served with the bibimbap was one of the worst we've had. It had no sweetness to it and was too vinegary. Ratios were way off and was terribly by itself. (2/5) **Mul Naengmyun: Very refreshing but there were too many big blocks of frozen solid broth. After finishing all the liquid, there was about 30-40% of the whole dish frozen. The portion of noodles was very low. I had a couple chopsticks worth of noodles and was finished so quickly. The most disappointing thing about this dish was that there was no meat. Flavor was actually really good but unfortunately, it failed in every other category. (2/5) **LA Galbi: Highlight of the evening was the LA Galbi. The bone was very small and the meat had very good flavor. (5/5) The banchan were hit and miss. The radish muchim was very good and had great flavor. I personally also liked the squash and seaweed dish too. The mook/muk, ojingeojeot, and kimchi were insanely salty. Ojingeojeot is one of my most favorite banchans of all time but this was easily the worst one I've had. The yuksu (bone broth) they served in the beginning was amazing and refreshing. The service was good but the waiters don't speak any Korean. I ordered in Korean like I do at any other restaurant but the guy repeated the order back in English. There were only a few Korean people I saw in the restaurant including someone resembling the manager, another front of house employee, and one woman cooking the food in the back of house. Food was honestly very disappointing and the banchan isn't anything to write home about. Service is good but I expect to be able to order in Korean especially at a restaurant like this that serves traditional Korean food. They've been open for about a month now and it looks like they're still in their soft opening phase. It also looks like they're rotating out their banchans every week to see what the customers like. They have a small parking garage directly behind the restaurant offering 2 hours of free parking. Other than that, there's plenty of street parking available on Main St and 4th St. I'm currently 0/3 for Korean restaurants in the SGV area and I would skip this spot for now. read more

We are so happy that a decent Korean restaurant with extensive menu has opened close to our home! The ambiance and set up was modern and clean. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. My husband dropped a spoon and a new one was waiting for him above his head as he was picking up the dropped utensil. Also the staff voluntarily kept our last bowl of rice warm and served it only after we finished our first two bowls. I love Alhambra for all the free parking structures, it just makes it so easy to park and enjoy your choice of craving! 3 stars It is with some sad news that I have to give this new restaurant a lower star rating. Firstly, I understand that they are still new and still hiring. Secondly, I came on a Sunday night and maybe they weren't staffed properly. Thirdly, because they're so new, maybe some staff members are still training. With all that said, these were the things I had an issue with: Upon my arrival, it was 7pm and there were plenty of tables open. The host (maybe it's the restaurant manager?) puts down my name on a list and said it would be a 20 minute wait. Ok, fine. I didn't get seated until 7:30pm, which is fine-whatever. In that 30-minute waiting period, the manager closes the front door, but it's locked, so one of the staff members from outside has to knock to get in. I open the door for him after checking with another staff member that it is ok to let this guy in... who locks the door during business hours? In the meantime, other people ahead on the list get seated. Fine. Anyways, I get seated at 7:30pm and order my food. BUT, everyone who came in after me, got seated right away. 15 minutes later, my banchan comes out, and another 15 minutes later, my order comes out. All is fine. The server, who was great btw, offers to refill the potato banchan and he returns with the news that they ran out. Also fine. BUT, here is the kicker, 2 young ladies come in around the time I've finished half my soup and, I think they might know the host, and they were given the banchan plus the potato banchan. Look, just tell me there are no refills for solo diners. It is FINE...my feelings will not be hurt if I'm told the truth, but I am extremely disappointed that I was lied to. I'm not blaming my server b/c I understand that instructions in any hospitality business are coming from the top-down. Ambiance: they did a lot of remodeling to look like an Ikea catalog, but whatever. It was neat, clean, modern, and devoid of any culture like so many modern Asian restaurants. Whatever positive impression I had of the restaurant design is completely neutralized by the above stated experience. 3/5 stars. Banchan: pickled peppers were decent (4/5 stars), kimchi (4/5 stars), broccoli w/ sesame dressing (4/5 stars), stirfried fish (4/5 stars), & those darn spicy POTATOES (5/5 stars). Budae Jigae ($19.95): Frankly, individual servings of army stew have no business being $20 b/c in many restaurants, a huge family-sized budae jigae would be $45-55 before tax. This was good, but not worth the price. I'd still get it again if I ever came back. 3.5/5 stars. Coke ($2.50): we all know this is a rip-off, but I was hoping to support a local restaurant regardless of what happened earlier. Free private parking in the back or free street parking. A mixed bag, with most of the stars going to the excellent staff that was highly attentive and nice, doing the best they can with the soft opening hiccups. Pros: + Again, staff was very attentive and nice. They offered bone broth in a cup for a very cold rainy day to start before waters, although maybe to make up for the lack of hot water somehow when we were there. Sounds like a broken hot water machine. They checked up frequently, so no issues with getting staff attention. + Clean and nice simple feel to the restaurant (although arguably a must for a new place), although the tables on the side has very tight spacing when filled up. My fiance had to sit next to me rather than across from me since the other table made it hard to sit in the chairs right behind them. + Banchan was decent, with a unique broccoli option that I don't think I've seen at other places. Seems to be free for refills if you asked. Cons (unfortunately all food here): For the price point, the food left quite a bit to be desired. Best way to put it is for almost a $20 bowl of soup, it felt a bit average. My yukhoe bibimbap is $27, yet I'm not quite sure if I'm getting great beef plus I wished the ingredients were more finely cut to make eating easier because I was navigating a prickly salad and giant chunks of radish versus truly enjoying a mouthful of rice given how the side was presented or paired here. This was a spicy dish, which I didn't quite handle as well either and don't think it was clearly noted on the menu as such. The portions were decent, but I don't think the pricing met the expectations from an ingredients standpoint. With so much competition in the growing array of Korean places in the SGV, I could probably get similar, if not the same dishes, for less and still would be very flavorful. Another table who came in before us seemed to be sitting for some time, but their galbi took forever in terms of the wait and they were served their food well after we already ate, so another soft opening kink. This new Korean restaurant just soft opened on Main Street in Alhambra and I had a really enjoyable experience. The interior is super spacious with plenty of seating and the staff is very informative and attentive. They start you off with a cup of hearty soup that was really comforting! For their sides they brought out spicy fermented skate fish which was really unique and had a crunchy texture similar to radish. I ordered a cold noodle and my friend got the sullungtang. Their cold noodles were really good with a nice chewy texture and a tangy flavor. The sullungtang tasted good and you can season to your liking. The dishes here are on the pricier side, though nothing out of the ordinary nowadays. They have other dishes that I would want to try like their Galbi jjim and Galbi tang. I was randomly browsing Yelp for new restaurants and I saw that this brand new Korean restaurant was in soft opening, right next to Bobacraft Cafe. I saw that this restaurant also had yukhoe, or Korean beef tartare, which my friend enjoys. So I decided to come here with some friends for lunch. Since the restaurant was in soft opening, there were plenty of seats available despite us going on a weekend. We were seated right away. The restaurant is super clean and the spacing is quite generous. The staff are super attentive. We had a big party, so we ended up sharing multiple items. We shared a bossam, dolsot bibimbap, yukhoe, budae jjigae, and hemul pajun or seafood pancake. The banchan were super unique, and included sweet fried peanuts, kimchi, and also skate, a cartilaginous fish akin to stingray. The unique banchan was a treat. The seafood pancake was my favorite dish. The batter was quite different and had a tempura like texture to it. The yukhoe or beef tartare was quite good too. I also loved the bossam or pork belly, which came with generous spicy fried chicken and various other toppings. Every dish I had at this restaurant was amazing and well done. 4.5/5 I didn't realize it was a soft opening when I came. They provided a beef bone broth and it was a warm, flavorful start to our meal. We tried the green onion pork belly dish and the yukhoe bibimbap. The sides were good, seasoned well, and refillable, except the two they were making set amounts daily. I wasn't expecting the green onion pork belly to come with rice, but I did like the garlic flakes and how the rice crisped up on the bottom. I was expecting thicker cuts of pork belly like samgyeopsal, although this version with the thinner slices was also enjoyable. The yukhoe bibimbap was fresh and I particularly liked the microgreens, pears, and pine nuts paired with the meat and sauce. The server was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. It just opened - 2nd day and had to try it. It's not eat all you can and someone cooks for you so I am happy . They have lots of Choices. Presentation and taste is excellent . They offer free sides . Service is fast and servers are very attentive. It's clean and simple. I will definitely come back to try other dishes . Price is reasonable. It is Still soft opening so people Are just discovering. I am glad traditional Korean restaurant is back when you just sit back and relax and let someone else do the cooking. There is parking structure for guests . So excited there's finally a Korean restaurant on Main St! There are plenty of Asian restaurants in the area, but we were really missing a Korean spot, so I'm glad this one opened. We ordered the mixed beef soup and the pork belly plate. The mixed beef soup was absolutely perfect--just a heads up that you season it yourself to your own preference, which I really liked. The pork belly was also delicious, especially wrapped in lettuce and dipping sauce, and I loved the variety of side dishes. The service was super attentive, and the restaurant has been renovated with a nice, clean aesthetic. Would absolutely come back again! read more

Went today for their lunch special and got their spicy pork soup it was delicious! Service was quick and efficient! The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I would have loved more versatility in their side dishes plus wish the soup had more broth! But would definitely come again. We tried the lunch special for their grand opening today and were really impressed! Not only did the food come out quickly, but everything was so delicious and flavorful. The meat was soo tender. It was literally falling off the bone. We received complimentary soup and side dishes. The restaurant also has a cute, cozy interior, and the service was super friendly. So happy they finally opened a Korean restaurant in Alhambra! This is the second time I've tried this place and the food and side dishes are amazing! They even give free gookbap (rice with soup) to babies/toddlers. The place is very clean and spacious. The staff are attentive and helpful. Definitely coming back. read more
