I ordered three orders of the fish and chips from this Popei's location. It was around $14 each. Now, tell me what's wrong with the picture posted below? This is a seafood place and that's how they serve their fish and chips?! That's fish sticks, not fish and chips. A 10 year old wouldn't even be full off of that. I have seen way better fish and chips options at other restaurants that aren't even a seafood establishments. We essentially paid $14 each for curly fries. When I called and spoke to the manager, she told me that that is how all cod is served. I'm not sure which cod she's seen before, but I have seen way larger filets/portions than these tiny, thin, little, finger-sized fish sticks. This was not as advertised. Haven't been here in forever and was so happy to see if hasn't really changed. I was shocked by the quality of their appetizers. The wasabi scallops were delectable with a sirachi glaze and tzatsiki sauce. The stuffed artichoke was also delicious and a staple of my childhood growing up. The tuna burger I ordered for my entree was cooked to perfection with a side of regular old fries and some spicy chipotle sauce for dipping. So may people have been to Popei's and finally it was my turn. We were looking for someplace close to 25 with a varied menu (our group had some particular tastes) that wasn't too expensive. This shouldn't be a such a tall order in a place like mid-eastern Suffolk County. Popie's had the most resonable menu prices matched with the requisite 3 star minimum to be considered. As one of the party had eatern there before and loved the stuffed salmon, the deal was closed. We arrived about 6:00 PM on Monday end were seated inside immediately. A server appeared at the table promptly to take drink orders and even persevered through our disorganization to finally collect the order. We shortly thereafter ordered appetizers. These hot apps were delivered to the table in record time. I selected the Thai Chili Calamari. What i expected was a lightly battered almost "Tempura" calamari with a light this chili sauce over the top. Popei's version was instead a more heavy flour coated affair that had a certain density the belies the delicateness that the calamari possesses innately. All said they weren't terrible, but not what I expected from a place that makes its bones on seafood. For the main course I decided to switch up a bit and go with an option from Terra Firma, The short rib over mashed potatoes. This was a nice boneless cut that was likely braised tender and melt in your mouth. It could have done with more of a demi or sauce, but it went down well. The potatoes were nothing special but likely would have been elevated if the aforementioned sauce or demi been present (maybe something with peppercorns). Of the Deserts that were had the Super Brownie was the favorite. The Holy Cannoli was deemed a little odd. Tasty but odd. In the end, due to their big selection Popei's can be a crowd pleaser especially if thee are a lot of different tastes in your group. read more

Second trip here because it was a definitely go back. Visited Pompei's with a reservation(highly recommended} as the place is crowded at dinner time. Decor is fairly nice and bright. They have an outdoor patio but we choose not to sit there since it seemed a bit loud for conversation. We stayed inside which was much more demure. Service was top notch with the staff very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed/wanted. Also they were not too overbearing with just the right amount of contact. Kudos for that. What makes this restaurant stand out and earn its 5 stars this time as to the 4 stars from my last review is the food. The whole baked clams, delicious. Not many places offer whole clams. Second, the Lobster Bisque(One of my favorite soups, so it has to be just right) was creamy, had loads of bits of lobster meat and hotter than warm but not too hot needing a cool down blow.. I like my creamy soups just like this. Broth based soups need to be steamy hot requiring the "cool down blow job" On to the mains, Wife had fried sea scallops and a side salad. Plenty of scallops left over that it made it to the next days lunch table. I had the chopped salad, which in essence was a Chefs Salad with lobster meat, lump crab and shrimp. Also had the usual chefs salad stuff, bacon bits, hard boiled egg, avocado, diced tomato and blue cheese crumbs over iceberg lettuce. Yup, scrumptious is the word to the describe it. No dessert as we definitely full. Other food choices on nearby tables lQQked just as delicious. This restaurant is on our to be repeated list. read more

This was an adorable gem! If you like or love seafood than you should try this place. They had an outdoor deck and a covered bar with a TV. The food was great: I had the sesame seed tuna and my companion the mixed seafood with white sauce and spaghetti. It was a generous portion for sure and very good! The cocktails were exotic and good! I had oysters and my companion the seafood bisque, served at the perfect temperature. The server was good, courteous, prompt and considerate! All in all a great evening out. Popeis clam bar in Coram Went here last weekend. I have gone to this place probably for 20 years or so and it's always been good. But this time, I'm not sure if it has been the lack of going out to eat , or if they just got some really fresh seafood in but the food was extra ON POINT. First off we ate outside and they made sure everything was clean, tables were social distanced, only one menu per table but they let you scan a bar code to your phone to look up additional menus so menus aren't being spread alround. My wife and kids had crab legs and I had the BEST twin lobster tails I ever had. They were HUGE and cooked perfectly. For an appetizer we just got an octopus salad or something which was also tasty. Been dying to go back already. The service was also very good . I used to get their specials , pasta etc which are decent , but they really shine with their fresh seafood. read more

Wish I could give a minus 5 stars! This place is an embarrassment as far as food goes.. Great if you want to hang out at the bar or outside, but took my daughter Saturday for a quick dinner, and ended up apologizing. Purple lipstick on my water glass scallops were so sandy they were inedible. Baked clam was sandy and the stuffing ingredients were a mish-mash of ingredients that just did not belong together. Stuffed mushroom and fillet of fish and other unidentifiable item just tasted like they were thrown together by someone's 5 year old kid playing with food for the first time. I actually brought it home because I felt sorry for the poor overwhelmed food server. (Then tossed it out) When the manager came over at the end I almost told her fire her chef and I'd take the job, but I didn't think they could afford me. I do taxes. I don't normally post reviews but I went here during week and the seafood salad was really good but went back on Saturday with my family and the pasta dishes are disgusting. The vodka sauce was watery and tasted terrible And scampi terrible too. apps and salad good and my child liked the shrimp basket. the food was out so quick so seems like everything is just frozen and reheated. won't be going back! We came here on a Friday night and sat in the dining area. We didn't go to the bar but we passed it and it looked busy and lively. I had stuffed salmon and my husband had a tuna steak. Both were obviously good quality but maybe a little bland. It is a huge menu and there were lots of dishes that sounded good so I would go back and try again with something else. This restaurant is extremely well managed. The service is fantastic and the food is excellent. The Captains platter is a huge hit. I've also had the shrimp carbonara which is also tasty. ... I've passed this place many times over the years, and finally decided to meet a date here as it is halfway between our homes ... I arrived at 5pm, about 10 minutes before my date was due to arrive ... there was one table, sat in the dining room, and no one waiting ... the waitress came to ask if I wanted to drink ... I explained that I was waiting for someone and they would be there momentarily, then we'd let her know ... as my date arrived, the waitress came to the table and before she even sat down, asked " so have you decided on drinks " ... my date answered " I'd like to take a look at the menu for a moment ... " , to which the waitress answered " well, would you like to start with an appetizer ... " ... I assured her that we would signal when we were ready to order ... " ... 2 minutes after my date sat, not even having opened her menu, the waitress returned, and asked " so, have you made up your mind about drinks and appetizers yet ... " ... I politely asked her to give us a few minutes ( mind you, there was no one else seated in the dining room, other than the other couple, who had just asked for their check ... we ordered and the French Onion Soup was bland, almost watery ... our steamers arrived, and were too sandy to eat ... the bus boy brought our food out and we didn't see the waitress again until we asked for our check ... mind you, not another table sat during the entire time we were there ... the food is of poor quality ... and the place is way too expensive for what they're offering ... that'll be the last time I go near there ... read more

Terrible experience. I asked the waitress,(that seemed like she just couldn't bother to be there,very unprofessional for a woman of a certain age), what she recommended. Well I went with their famous Popei special pasta on her recommendation.It was horrible! No flavor. Rubbery calamari, pasta was pre cooked and inedible with frozen veggies thrown in. Which made no sense to be in the dish. Was supposed to be in garlic sauce. It was pasta water. This was their signature pasta dish. They should be ashamed. Not to mention the clams appetizer we ordered. It was supposed to be baked, 3 clams casino, 3 steamed. We got 3 with horrible bread crumbs with raw clams inside that tasted bad. Had to spit it out. The other clams were a joke. All cherry stones with no real clam to be seen. Not what we ordered. Garbage. Do Not recommend spending your time or money in this dump. Very disappointed! read more

Normally a really good experience here but my recent visit was far less than pleasing. Started out with a yummy lobster bisque but then went downhill. Our waitress spilling hot melted butter on my girlfriend's pants then she was served a very bland, tasteless steamed lobster tail. This was replaced with an also bland, tasteless boiled lobster tail. I ordered the "White Cloud" which was covered in so much ricotta cheese and melted mozzarella cheese that you couldn't taste the sea food in the dish (shrimp, scallops, sealegs). OUTSTANDING!!!!! Our waitress Lyndsey was the absolute best!! She was professional and courteous, on her game 100%. From start to finish Lyndsey was fabulous. Ordered drinks and appetizers, came out in the correct order and temperature. Food was delicious. This place is pretty bad. Their menu is several pages long with a hodge-podge offering of seafood, barbecue, and Italian meals. This lack of focus really showed as soon as we started to get our dishes. We started with two frozen margaritas. The margaritas were half off (Sunday special) and the drinks were about 90% water & lime juice. Three of these wouldn't give me a buzz and I'm a lightweight. On to the "Cajun calamari" appetizer which was the only decent dish of the whole meal. Although I'm not sure what qualifies the calamari as "Cajun" (there was no spice to it whatsoever), the calamari was done well and tasted good. The service staff were terrible at clearing our table. While our server was attentive in asking us if we needed more drinks, etc. she showed no urgency in clearing the dirty, empty plates and glasses from our table. Even when our entrees were arriving & our glasses were empty there was no clearing of the appetizer plates or glasses. We had to push our empty dishes to the end of the table in the hopes that someone would come by and pick it up. My boyfriend ordered the red snapper special and I ordered the broiled scallops. When I picture "broiled" I think of a nice, crispy outside with some texture. These scallops had a more BOILED, soggy texture. I couldn't finish the plate it was so bad. The red snapper special was hardly a special. It was a messy, slapped together dish of avocado, beans, rice, and shellfish with soggy red snapper on top. Not appetizing to look at or eat at all. Generally, if you're a seafood restaurant, the seafood items must be done well. At the VERY least. I can't even imagine what other items on the menu were like. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone. Terrible seafood, weak drinks, subpar service. Find somewhere else to eat your dinner tonight. This place is a waste of your money. read more

Sat at the bar for some "specials" and was only told $2 tacos and $3 local drafts. I ordered the buffalo shrimp which I was in the mood for and found the shrimp to be a little harder than usual but still good. I also got the overstuff clams which were really good but not for the price. $12 for 3. The buffalo shrimp was $12 for a dozen. I did try the shrimp taco, I wouldn't get it again but I didn't spit it out neither. Overall it was bar food. Nothing fancy. And I would return. I've eaten at this location for several years. The customer service and food are spot on. When you enter Popei's you're greeted with warm welcome and seated right away. This place is top notch. I have to say I really enjoyed myself here tonight. Our waitress Kayla, I believe, was so nice and helpful. She made our evening a great one. The place was busy and she was seriously quick and efficient without skipping a beat. The mussels were fresh and tasty. Salad with house Italian was excellent. Chicken Francese is the best I've had in a long time. It was extremely tender and the sauce was creamy and delicious. A++. Don't even get me started on the complimentary garlic bread. It's nice that they don't charge for it. A lot of places do. It's a nice touch, and worth the calories. A kind woman came to check on our table and was so personable and friendly. Ordered a drink which was 90% alcohol and made my eyes cross, which they're proud of so if you're an alcoholic this place will serve you well. Then ordered Italian wedding soup which consisted of 1 meatball 3noodles, several carrots, and a pile of salt. Asked for then begged for water in which several stacked cups were tossed at us, one of which had dead insects in it... then a water pitcher with some sort of crud floating around in it... manager claimed she knew nothing about it and the restaurant was just sanitized. My girlfriend and I visit a few times a month and we always have a great time. I mean, the bread is already a favorite part of any meal at any restaurant but getting it the Rueben way went from amazing food I like what have I been missing. First time having the clam bake and let me tell you, regular calamari is never a bad idea, but the Thai calamaris definitely a way to kick it up a notch.
