Came here for lunch on Friday. We had made a reservation on resy and it was easy to get a table when we walked in. Service is friendly and space is bright and airy. As of May 2026, Popi is a rest restaurant eligible for the $100 Amex restaurant credit. We decided to indulge and get: * deviled eggs with caviar: soooo good! We made a reservation and arrived no more than 10 minutes late. There was a line just to check in, which contributed to the delay, and we had also tried calling the restaurant beforehand but no one answered. When we finally reached the host stand, the hostess told us she had given our table to the party directly in front of us, who did not have a reservation. When I asked why our reserved table had been given away, she responded incredibly rudely that they were "not going to wait all day" for us. Given that we were only about 10 minutes late, had attempted to call, and had been waiting in their check-in line, the response felt unnecessarily dismissive and hostile. Unfortunately, that attitude continued. I ordered a salad specifically because I was excited about the stone fruit listed on the menu. When it arrived without it, I asked about it and was eventually told they were out. When I asked whether there was a substitute, the hostess told me they had put cucumbers on it instead. I pointed out that cucumbers were already supposed to be part of the salad according to the menu, and she responded that there was nothing she could do. Again, it wasn't simply the issue itself--it was the dismissive way it was handled. Our waitress, on the other hand, was very kind and pleasant, and I want to make that distinction. Service overall was a little slow, but the interaction with the hostess was what really soured the experience. As a person of color, I also left uncomfortable with how differently our interaction seemed to be handled compared with the white guests around us. I can't know the hostess's intent, but given my previous experiences in the Marina, the contrast in treatment was difficult to ignore. I was genuinely excited to try Popi's Oysterette, which makes this particularly disappointing. A reservation issue or missing ingredient is understandable. Food: Visited again a week later and tried the mussels this time. They were prepared in a unique style with mustard and fried shallots, giving them a distinct flavor. The mussels were fresh, tasty, and generously sized. Service: 1 star for the service. Unfortunately, the service continues to be the weak point compared to the food. The elderly gentleman who delivered dishes and brought condiments such as ketchup provided little to no hospitality. The waitress was friendlier, but overall the service still felt inattentive and lacked engagement. I actually circled this area and nearby paid parking lots for about 20 minutes before giving up and parking at the Union Street Plaza Garage, which is about a 12 min walk, it was worth it! Clam Chowder 8/10: Honestly a really solid clam chowder, i feel like a lot of seafood places have mid chowders but i enjoyed this one! Oysters 12 for $48 9/10: Super fresh, great chimi-style mignonette, and shucked pretty well, only one small shard found. Golden Nugget 4, Pinkertons Loot 4, Sunset 4. All were good but Pinkerton's stood out as more briny and refreshing. Grilled Oysters 9/10: Probably some of the best grilled oysters i've had in a while, but pricey for sure, you get 2 for around $13 or something. Can't remember exact price. This is a cute tiny little restaurant with tiny little tables inside. I think next time I would sit outside but it wasn't uncomfortable inside just a little loud for my taste. Ok the deviled eggs were perfect. The smoked salmon on them was really fun & kicked them up a notch. & the clam chowder was perfection! So creamy & tasty! 100% would come back here for the deviled eggs & the clam chowder. The whole roasted crab had garlic, herbs & capers on it. I'm actually very displeased with this establishment. I came here for the Chase Sapphire Preferred X Infatuation promotion (Spend $150 at a participating restaurant and get $75 credit back). Given the price point, I probably would not have come here, had it not been for this promotion. For 3 people, we ended up spending ~$130 and I tipped the rest to hit the $150 minimum in order to get the credit back. However, the restaurant put 149.04 as the grand total after tip. Why? I have absolutely no idea. Why would they short themselves of a bigger tip? Either way, I didn't end up getting the credit back from Chase because I needed the merchant to send me a copy of the receipt (the one that I KNOW I wrote $150 on) Lo and behold, this restaurant does not accept phone calls and they do not respond to their emails. On top of that, the food is not great either. Nothing here impressed me. They ran out of clam chowder, which I was most excited for, by the time I was seated. I came here yesterday in a group of 6 in search of some oysters, and the oysters were honestly my favorite. They were super fresh and tasty. However, I do think this place is overrated for the prices. I ordered the fish and chips which were a bit bland and a small portion for the price. I also tried their clam chowder which would not recommend since it was so watery and not flavorful imo. The guy who sat us down was also being weird about seating us inside and wanted to sit us outside in the rain. I suggested we can take the two separate tables inside and it would be fine if we split up, but he didn't seem to want to accommodate us. Nice for happy hour! Came here on a friday afternoon, no reservation- was a bit crowded but we were able to be easily seated as a party of 2. Because it was happy hour, we focused on that menu, but they gave us their specials and standard menus as well. We ordered half a dozen oysters, mussels, and fries, plus a rose and espresso martini. I thought the fries and drinks were the best parts. I was really excited for the oysters, but they were honestly way too fishy with a bad after taste. I'm glad we only got half a dozen rather than a full dozen. The mussels were a lot better than the oysters, though a little small and some of the mussels in the bowl lost their meat (so it was just the hard shell taking up space). The rose and espresso martini drinks were good - the espresso martini came in a simple cup, not a martini glass, which was a little strange, but the drink itself was great. The fries were solidly delicious. Overall, I think I would come back here for happy hour to grab a bite and drink with friends. Probably my favorite oyster bars in SF. Super fresh, and VERY clean oysters. Love the options (though I will say if you aren't into briney oysters maybe don't get the Hama Hamas). Sunset is fantastic if you like oysters on the sweeter side - they're my favorite! For the grilled oysters, the Millis are always fantastic if you like a bit of spice. I tried the Vanilli and they were also fantastic (also a great way to get someone who doesn't like oysters to try one) If you go during dungeness crab season, the crab roll is 10/10, especially on that fluffy, buttery roll. read more

Popi's has been one of the top places I've been wanting to check out for over six months now. A friend and I decided to try it one day since there was a deal on InKind, $30 off purchase of $100 or more on Mon-Wed. On a Wednesday around 5 p.m., the place was pretty empty. Happy hour is offered from 3-5 p.m. Mon-Fri. We started from the HH menu with two glasses of the cava brut ($8 each), a dozen chef's selection oysters ($12 for half dozen) and an order of fries ($7). The oysters were pretty fresh but one tasted a bit off. There was also some sand in a couple of others. The fries came with a 'fancy' ranch which tasted exactly like tartar sauce. We moved onto the main menu a little while later. We decided to split the popcorn shrimp ($14.50) and crab louie salad ($36.50). The shrimp was a much bigger size than other popcorn shrimp I've had and came with the tail on, battered and fried. It had a good crisp and a fair amount of batter. The server who was friendly and quick had the kitchen split the salad for us. The salad tasted light and refreshing with a decent amount of crab, but a bit odd that every piece of lettuce was coated in olive oil with the thousand island dressing on the side. Popi's has a few outdoor tables. Inside is quaint and cozy. By the time time we left around 7 p.m., we were the only patrons, which is out of the ordinary for this part of the city. We left a 20% tip with our meal and the restaurant also tacks on an additional automatic 7% service charge, which they do for employee benefits (per the menu). It was an average experience overall but disappointing for me as I had really high expectations for the place that has been on my list of top want to visits for so long. read more

The weather, the vibes, the food, the service it all came together for such a great meal. We ordered 6 raw oysters - they were good sized, super sweet, very silky and smooth. We also got the milli grilled oyster and they were packed with flavor. Stopped by here while in the neighborhood for an early dinner. There was only one table outside and the rest of the restaurant was empty. We walked in and one of the people in the kitchen approached and let us know that the server stepped out but that we can sit inside out outside while we wait. We sat outside since it was not too cold of a night, which is rare in the city. Some tables have heat lamps, but we opted for one without as it had a nice bench. We ordered a beer, crab roll that comes with an option of fries or salad, albacore tostadas, half dozen raw oysters, and mili grilled oysters - which comes in two. The food came out quick. Raw oysters were perfectly cleaned and were fresh. Their house hot sauce were great on them as well. The mili grilled oysters were also delicious, but not as spicy as I expected since it said it had jalapenos on the menu. The albacore tostadas were delicious. They were a special of the day, but we would order them again and again if they were on the regular menu. These had a ton of thinly sliced jalapenos which gave it the spice I was looking for with the mili oysters, and the tuna was sliced perfectly. I'd probably only change the tostada itself as it was too flakey but still a great dish. The crab roll was very yummy as well. No shells, and didn't taste frozen. Also had a bunch of crab versus only fillers; e.g. celery. The roll itself was toasty, and the fries were very crispy. The beer went well with the seafood. Sometimes when we sit outside at restaurants the service can be spotty as they pay more attention to those inside. However, this was not the case at Popi's. They were very attentive to us, which was nice not having to flag anyone down. We talked about this meal the next morning as well. Definitely going back for more. read more

The staff here were very attentive. it's a tiny spot, so they regularly checking on you. There's also a view into the kitchen. I appreciate the use of seasonal fresh fruit on some of the dishes. In this case, it was stone fruit season so we got some delectable peaches on our salad. All the food tasted very fresh. A neighborhood gem! My mom (also Yelp Elite)'s birthday fell on Father's Day this year so I had to pick the restaurant to celebrate. I sent her a few places, and she vetoed them all (she has a lot of allergies.) Exasperatedly, I asked her to pick a place then--and she picked Popi's, which she'd read about in SF Eater. I made a reservation (I felt lucky to be able to!) the week of. We sat outside in their parklet and right from the get-go, it was a great experience. Great service (including one of the owners/partners who came out!) and they were accommodating of my mom's allergies (instead of a crab roll on a brioche bun, she had a hamburger bun). I shared it with her and devoured it--there wasn't too much mayo, and the fries were also very good. My dad really liked his burger, but my mom really loved my brother's Crab Louie Salad the most. It had lots of crab! They didn't need to give that much! We started off with the calamari which wasn't greasy and was very flavorful, as well as the $91 Popi platter which had 4 clams, 4 shrimp, 12 oysters (chef's choice), and yummy crisps they made hot to accompany delicious smoked trout dip with trout roe.
