Kauai Chocolate Company is one of the stops I always try to make when I'm on Kauai. They're known for their chocolate opihis, which are shortbread cookies with caramel and a macadamia nut, all dipped in either milk or dark chocolate. They're not cheap and I've been slowly watching the prices increase slowly over the years (as everything else does), but if you're lucky, they may have some hamajang ones (not perfect) which are slightly discounted. I usually buy it for myself or close friends so I don't need the nice box. Hamajang is perfect. On top of that, they offer a small kamaaina discount if you show a local ID! My daughter wanted "Opihi's" from Kauai Chocolate Company so we made the 1 1/2 hour drive to the South Side of the island to Eleele/Port Allen. Hand made chocolates, soft serve and other Kauai treats. They are known for the Opihi chocolates, shortbread cookie, caramel and a macadamia nut covered in either Milk or Dark Chocolate. It was a Sunday afternoon and we wanted to check out some Kauai food places. We were surprised that Kauai chocolate company was open late on a Sunday. We found a nice large parking lot on the back side of the store. We were the only patrons there for a few moments but then it became a bustling place. It's a small shop with a few chocolate items. They also have ice cream and other local made products like Kauai Kookie company and Auntys lilikoi dressing.there were also handmade soaps, candles, and cards. They offer turtles which are chocolate, caramel, and Mac nuts in milk and dark. But I didn't realize they also have something different: opihi. Which is a short bread, with caramel and Mac nut, covered in chocolate. That was a fun little treat!! They have gift boxes of those in milk, dark, and mixed chocolate. A perfect omiyage or gift to bring back home to family, friends, or coworkers. Service was quick once two people were up at the front. If a lot of people are coming in for ice cream, it slows the line down a bit. Make sure to stop in if you are passing by. It's a quick way off the main road and a real treat! read more

Also, wasn't aware discounts were available for Kamaaina's, until my sister who lives in the island informed me. We were born & raised on Kaua'i but moved away for college. Even though there's a note in front glass on the ice cream, stating " vacation calories does not count" I wish!! After samples, getting my chocolate opihi stash and darn after sampling the opihi ice cream I had to get a scoop, regret not getting more than one scoop but I was worried about the vacation calories. Enjoying my scoop of opihi ice cream with my other half who can't have sweets, sharing is caring but next time I am getting an extra scoop no matter the calories. Cute little shop which offers chocolates and ice cream. When arriving to Kaui our Uber Driver mentioned that if we are in the area to stop by to try the Opihi's. After attending a boating excursion one evening, we happen to walk by the business that was mentioned to us. I dont have a photo but will say that the Opihi was one of the yummiest treats that we enjoyed during the trip. A short bread cookie, topped with caramel a whole macadamia nut and then covered in either dark or milk chocolate. Delicious! If you stop by be sure to pick up extra. The bottom is a miniature Kauai Kookie-brand cookie, then a smear of caramel and topped with a whole macadamia nut, all covered in creamy milk chocolate (dark is also available).
