Ko Bakery is a locally owned Hawaiian inspired, bakery and coffee shop in Lihue. They specialize in cakes and craft coffee drinks. I was just celebrating my birthday with some family and was craving coconut cake. Ko really came through with an outstanding cake delicate Italian buttercream frosting with a subtle hint of lime paired with a lilikoi filling. It was one of the best cakes I have had in a long time. It was not overly sweet, but the flavor was perfect. I thought the lady I spoke to over. The phone was very nice and in the store the service was friendly. The inside of the store was simple and clean and the premade pastry options were displayed at the front of the store in the refrigerated cases. read more

They have a great selection on cookies, biscotti, packaged Kauai coffee and pastries to take home. The snickerdoodle cookie was delicious! I also had a cold brew that was so tasty and refreshing. My husband and I traveled to the island with some family and friends to have a very small intimate wedding in February. I ordered the cake a month in advance after lots of back and forth with Candi. She answered all my questions and showed lots of patience with me since I didn't answer quickly and always had more questions. The day of our ceremony, we drove to pick up the cake. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. When we cut into it that night, the cake was moist, flavorful, and absolutely perfect for our little wedding. This bakery is located in an industrial building across the street from one of the best plate lunch places around. Although their modern showroom was sleek and somewhat bare, the service I received was top notch. I didn't have enough appetite for more than a carrot ginger cake and macchiato, but boy were these great. The barista was very friendly and made an excellent drink for me. Just the right amount of everything to make a super rich espresso and the foam was fluffy and blanketed my caffeine. The cake was supremely moist and spiked with a ginger punch. Just the right amount of shredded carrots to make one think you're being somewhat healthy and the frosting had a sour cream twang. Overall one of the more decadent desserts of the day. I wish I took a better picture as this photo really does not do justice for the dessert. I'm anxious to come back and get more coffee and sweets. read more

We were visiting Kauai in celebration of my wife's birthday and I ordered a cake in advance from the mainland. We received a friendly confirmation from Candi and everything went very smoothly. "The Triple Threat" was made with high quality chocolate and was delicious. But the real threat I discovered was the best cookie I've ever had - the Coco Oat Scotchie. Coconut! Oats! Butterscotch! I saw it in the case while picking up the cake and had to have one...and then a couple of days later, I went back....and then again the day before we left. We met Candi at the store and she was as friendly as could be, and recommended some GREAT Hawaiian Turtle Mochas! She was awesome and very helpful. Ordered the lili koi dream cake (I believe is the name) which was 6 inches with the addition of some fresh orchids for an extra $10 for a total price of $55. For 6 adults and 1 toddler this cake was the perfect size. It was a very beautiful cake, however the cake itself was pretty gross in taste. The cake was noticeably not fresh and the frosting was hard and almost crumbly in a strange way. It was such a disappointment as we ordered this cake in advance of our trip to celebrate our cousins 60th birthday and none of the 6 adults and toddler could finish their piece, nor was anyone interested in any leftovers the next day. This is especially saying a lot for all of us cake lovers, including my toddler who would do anything to have unlimited access to cake. So so bummed. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it but after thinking about it for 2 days, we decided to call them and let them know and thankfully they were very accommodating to making a new cake or offer a refund - sadly we were leaving the next morning so we took the refund option. We were told that sometimes cake are made in advance and frozen because of the humidity. The staff were very kind and apologetic so I would have loved to give them another chance. I'm always looking for good bakeries and Ko Bakery is now added to my list. We went here a few times during our recent trip to Kauai. I enjoyed their Mocha which wasn't overly sweet and brought-out the flavor of the beans. I really enjoyed their Lilikoi White Chocolate Scone, Very Blueberry Scone, Banana Fosters Scone and their Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. All their bakery items are freshly made and delicious. The flavors of all their pastry items were awesome and their scones weren't dry like some others I've had from other bakeries. Service is excellent and we were treated very well. Really loved this spot! Super sad they aren't open on Sundays because I sure do love my iced coffee and pastry on weekends. Today we tried the cinnamon rolls, which were incredibly delicious! Cream cheese icing and all! The girls working had great attitudes and customer service. They were super helpful and sweet for dealing with all my questions! I really appreciated all of the help. The bakery/coffee shop opens early at 8am and still there were a few customers in the bakery. It's a really nice, new, clean building which looks great and inviting. I hope that in the future they will have some sitting area so we can eat and drink there instead of taking it home. Definitely one of my new favorite places, will be back for sure! read more

I love, love, love Ko Bakery's cookies. Each time I'm on the island, I always stop by one of their shops to pick up many bagfuls to munch on. I assumed that their cakes would be on par with how delicious their cookies were. For my parent's vow renewal, we ordered two huge cakes. One was pog flavor and the other was the lilikoi. We were so excited for the cake. It was more important than the ceremony to us because we love sweets and cakes. Unfortunately, the cakes ended up being dry. Ordering and service were great. My husband and I came to Kauai to celebrate our 30th anniversary with a vow renewal. We contacted Ko Bakery and placed an order for two 6" cakes - his & hers since my husband loves carrot cake and I love chocolate. Morris accommodated our special requests and delivered two beautiful little cakes. The chocolate cake was delicious but I have to say the carrot ginger cake is amazing!
