Absolutely amazing. Had some 'Nashville Hot Chicken' in Nashville a few years ago and have been chasing for it locally ever since. Every other hot chicken option around Charlotte has been a disappointment, but Poppycox isn't playing around. I'm a spicy-food enjoyer, but was a bit worried that they might be the real deal, so I got the Supa Hot sandwich, and it took me a good while and multiple napkins for my forehead to eat it. Went back another day for some stoopid hot tendies and they exceed my spice tolerance. So, Poppycox is bringing the heat for sure, but their chicken is juicy and the breading is super crispy and tasty. A little sweet, a lotta heat and the tang from the pickles and slaw. Perfection. 5/5 for me, and my kiddo, who is also a bit of a spice-head, enjoyed their medium but preferred their hot. The higher heats are no joke, though. We were lucky to grab seating larger enough to accommodate our group right by the Poppycox suite/stall. I joined the line and perused the menu as this would be my first introduction to the brand and what they offered. When I made it to the front to place my order I was initially met with a welcoming "hello and what can I get you", that quickly turned sour. Nicely seasoned and you can control your spice level. The Fries- not impressive, honestly kinda hard and dry. This would have been better and elevated with crinkle cut fries IMO. The Comeback Sauce- as I suspected not my thing. I enjoyed the ranch much better. Yes I was charged for both. (To be clear it was not the charge it was the whole interaction) The Service- Honestly sad. Whew... this place has great chicken but oh lord it's spicy Great chicken so so spicy the medium is SOOO SPICY. So do yourself a favor and get 1 spice level DOWN. If you don't like spicy declare yourself a wimpy and stay it. Literally smells spicy in there. So the food is really crispy and the chicken is cooked to perfection. WOW, nuff, said! We were checking out Southern Range Brewing on a Friday night in early August and Poppycox had their food trailer in the parking lot serving up their Nashville Hot Chicken. Both my wife and I were a bit hungry and decided to check them out. We walked up to look at the menu and asked the couple in line if they had tried it before. They proceeded to tell us, "it is delicious!" and we chatted with them for a bit. Since the menu revolves around Nashville Fried Chicken, they told us more about the levels of heat at Poppycox. We told them that we both enjoy a bit of mild heat but nothing extreme. They suggested we try either mild or wimpy. We stood in line for several minutes while we waited for our turn. We decided to order the 3 Tendies (wimpy heat level), and the Daddy fries to share. When we placed our order, we asked some other questions about their business and learned they started out as a tent about two years ago and made enough money to purchase the trailer. Their home base is Charlotte, and they provide their schedule via Instagram and Facebook @poppycoxclt When our number was called, my wife picked up our food and brought it to our table. I opened it up and as usual, my phone ate first. We were very impressed! As we began to eat the huge chicken tenders, we were impressed with the crunch on the outside and how juicy the chicken was inside. The seasoning (wimpy heat level) was just right for us. It had a lot of flavor with a hint of sweetness and minimal heat. This chicken is amazing! The fries were equally as tasty, they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Paired with the dipping sauce and ranch dressing provided we were in hot chicken heaven. We really wish Poppycox was in our local area, but at the same time we are not that far from Charlotte. If you told me the best Nashville Hot Chicken in Charlotte would come from a food truck, I wouldn't have believed it - until I tasted it! Everything about Poppycox was fantastic. They were at the Rock Hill Friday Food Truck event and it was the truck that stood out the most of what I wanted to try and I'm so glad I did. First off, when I approached the truck, all 3 people inside interacted with me. I asked for the 3 Tendies Supa Hot and an order of Daddy Fries. Now I almost always try the second spice level when trying a new place but the staff made a great analogy to the Supa Hot level and said it was like the One Chip Challenge heat. So I went with just the hot. Great recommendation by the staff! The value of this meal was off the charts. It was $18 for the tenders and fries, but each tender was plump, juicy and massive. They each came with a pickle on top and a slice of bread was underneath. The portion of fries was very good too. I almost always finish my meal, but I left a tender and some fries to eat the next day. The box felt like it weighed a couple of pounds. The taste was excellent. You didn't just get a flame-thrower to the mouth, even though it had very good heat, it also had a very good spice flavor. Just a really tasty meal. Honestly, I think the Supa Hot would have been too much and that's something you never know until you try a place and another reason I really liked that they explained the heat levels well when I ordered. At Helen's, I order the hottest level. At Dave's, I get the second level down, and at Rocky's in Greenville, I get the second level down. They offered to make one of the tenders at Supa Hot so I may try that next time but the Hot was one of the best balances I've had on heat and taste. It was a pleasant evening out listening to music and having good food, and when a food truck can deliver excellent food and service at a good value, they will have me checking their schedule to see where they will be for a future day.
