While in the Carolinas we made our way to Optimist Hall. As food halls go everyone splits and picks whatever delights their fancy and then reconvenes and enjoys. We were lucky to grab seating larger enough to accommodate our group right by the Poppycox suite/stall. While everyone wandered to grab food, I noticed the continual line and what I could only assume was their notable popularity and decided I will give Poppycox a try. I joined the line and perused the menu as this would be my first introduction to the brand and what they offered. When I made it to the front to place my order I was initially met with a welcoming "hello and what can I get you", that quickly turned sour. I guess because I wasn't a regular whom automatically knew what I wanted and I actually had questions. Me: I would like to try the Crazi Daddy Fries.... Can you please tell me what is "Comeback Sauce"? Employee: The sauce on the chicken. Me: Ok, I understand that but what kind of sauce is it exactly? Employee: Huh? Well I can't really tell you that. Me: You can't tell me what the sauce contains? I'm asking because I'm not a fan of some mayo based sauces... is it mayo based? **disregards my question and engages in a side convo with another employee and then walks off** 2nd Employee: Can I help you? Me: She couldn't tell me what's in the "comeback sauce" can I please taste it to make sure I'm ok with it? 2nd Employee: No I cannot allow you to taste the "comeback sauce" Me: Ok. To be clear she wouldn't tell me what the sauce is, and you're saying I can't taste it first before it's squeezed all over my order. This is my first time trying your food. 2nd Employee: Yes, that's correct. Me: Well can I have ranch instead? 2nd Employee: Ok, we charge for the sauce. Me: Ok well you can just put the comeback sauce on the side please incase I do not like it. 2nd Employee: There will be additional charge for the sauce on the side. Me: I'm not asking for additional sauce. I'm no longer asking for you to change the sauce. I'm simply asking for you not to put the sauce that I cannot try or know what it's made of on the side please. 2nd Employee: Yes. You will be charged for that. Me: Fine! At this point I'm convinced I must be on some hidden camera show because the amount of attitude and back & forth I'm getting over this "highly coveted comeback sauce" is mind-boggling. My order is placed and as I sit at our table and wait for my order. I'm looking for the camera crew. Welp turns out no crew, that was just the service. Overall the Crazi Daddy Fries were ok. They are very filling and larger enough to share especially if you would like try other food while at Optimist Hall. The Chopped Chicken- flavorful and juicy. Nicely seasoned and you can control your spice level. The Fries- not impressive, honestly kinda hard and dry. This would have been better and elevated with crinkle cut fries IMO. The Comeback Sauce- as I suspected not my thing. I enjoyed the ranch much better. Yes I was charged for both. (To be clear it was not the charge it was the whole interaction) The Service- Honestly sad. The attitudes were unnecessary, but more important the assumption that every customer is familiar with your product or what you offer is a disservice to both parties. Especially when questions are immediately dismissed or answered with frustration. Just A Note: -3% Surcharge for Credit Cards -My experience was extra spicy and I'm not talking about the chicken. So much so I forgot to snap a pic of the food because I was still taken aback.

YES YES YES! This is the place for Nashville hot chicken! If it's between Dave's and here GO HERE! Now the service is fast, the food comes out hot butttttt they do not have real southern sweet tea. Thats literally the only down side bc everything else is amazing! The chicken is huge, juicy, and the breading is impeccable! Be careful with the heat though! I am African and the medium was HOT! Lol but their ranch and the special sauce were *chef's kiss* to cool things down! It is at the food hall, so there is a lot of people, and finding seats can be hard on busy days. If you want something less busy, with more space and seating options, go on an off day or take your food to go and enjoy at home. Overall 10/10! Loved it! Had some coleslaw to help with the heat for those who like spicy - you will love it!

This places is located in optimist hall and is a good option if you love Nashville hot chicken. We got medium and it wasn't too hot but paired really well with the pickles, fries and slaw.

Finally got to try Poppycox and it did not disappoint! Their chicken was fresh and tasty and HUGE! It's a little pricey but for the amount of food you get it's worth it. I was too scared to try anything hotter than medium but I will be back! Definitely a new favorite stall at Optimist Hall!

They're M A S S I V E! No cute snack tendys here. I got the Big Kids Meal and boy was it B I G. I got 2 Dino sized tenders covered in mild sauce with the best fries. They are crispy and well seasoned. I got the mild to temper the waters and it has a beautiful smokey kick. I'm such a ranch girl but theirs was more dill than ranch which I didn't care for. However, the comeback sauce quickly made up my initial disappointment. I ate this box for 3 days cutting each in half. I made a small salad beyond the airfreight reheat. Definitely worth the money!

Oof that was spicy! The chicken was perfectly crispy and the "hot" level burnt so good. Glad I ate it at home so I could drink a glass of milk. My lips are still burning and yet I would definitely get it again. The only odd thing I noticed while waiting for my food was someone else was offered a discount for being a first time customer but I wasn't offered or asked.

Visiting from San Diego I wanted to grab a bite at the infamous optimist hall. I stumbled upon Poppycox and decided to give it a try. WOW is all I can say. This is the best fried chicken sandwich I've had in my life. I ordered the second level of spice and it was just the right amount of heat for this west coast boy! The flavors are so explosive in your mouth with the contrast of sweet and spicy. The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the pickles are a perfect touch. I also got an order of fries and they were delicious. This is definitely a place I would fly from San Diego to get one of these sandwiches again!

WOW, nuff, said! We were checking out Southern Range Brewing on a Friday night in early August and Poppycox had their food trailer in the parking lot serving up their Nashville Hot Chicken. Both my wife and I were a bit hungry and decided to check them out. We walked up to look at the menu and asked the couple in line if they had tried it before. They proceeded to tell us, "it is delicious!" and we chatted with them for a bit. Since the menu revolves around Nashville Fried Chicken, they told us more about the levels of heat at Poppycox. We told them that we both enjoy a bit of mild heat but nothing extreme. They suggested we try either mild or wimpy. We stood in line for several minutes while we waited for our turn. We decided to order the 3 Tendies (wimpy heat level), and the Daddy fries to share. When we placed our order, we asked some other questions about their business and learned they started out as a tent about two years ago and made enough money to purchase the trailer. Their home base is Charlotte, and they provide their schedule via Instagram and Facebook @poppycoxclt When our number was called, my wife picked up our food and brought it to our table. I opened it up and as usual, my phone ate first. We were very impressed! As we began to eat the huge chicken tenders, we were impressed with the crunch on the outside and how juicy the chicken was inside. The seasoning (wimpy heat level) was just right for us. It had a lot of flavor with a hint of sweetness and minimal heat. This chicken is amazing! The fries were equally as tasty, they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Paired with the dipping sauce and ranch dressing provided we were in hot chicken heaven. We really wish Poppycox was in our local area, but at the same time we are not that far from Charlotte. We plan to follow them in the future so we can stop in when visiting the area. Highly recommend and we wish them all the very best as they continue to grow their business.

I had a large order and they handled it with ease. The food was fresh and delicious. They also took the time to package up the order for easy transport.

I just happen to be working in the area where Roaming Fork sets up on Thursdays out in Ballantyne and was able to grab some tasty lunch. The menu is varied and even has an Asian flare! I went with the recommendation of the cashier. I got the Porky Cheesy and the Truffle fries. The grill cheese had a good crunch and a good amount of filling. I love anytime you mix bbq pork and cheese and this didn't disappoint. The truffle fries get squirted with truffle oil after they come out the grease and have an amazing aroma. I liked the flavor but I love fries with a condiment so I felt like the fries could have used some ranch dipping sauce. The menu has a lot of items I would like to try. Hopefully I'm back in the area where they are located and can give them another try soon. Roaming Fork Thursday October 24, 2019 1pm

They also have the best yucca fries I've probably ever had. My issue with most yucca fries is that the texture tends to be pretty tough, but these are so soft inside - like they mashed the yucca first and then formed the fries. I don't know what magic they use, but they're incredible, and you must get some. We also got a churro filled with dulce de leche, and it came out nice and hot with lots of cinnamon sugar coating. I didn't love the dulce de leche filling for some reason - maybe I got spoiled by spending time in Argentina - so next time I'll likely go for the regular churro.

I had heard multiple cheers of praise and glory about this truck's pizza and wings. I was even a little intimidated approaching the order window. The staff were all very friendly and helpful with describing all of the menu items. We ended up getting two slices of cheese, a slice of the buffalo chicken and 5 Carolina Buffalo wings. We sat down with 24oz tallboys in hand and went to town. I was happy to say that the wings are AWESOME. Perfectly cooked, a little crispy on the outside, not dry, tender, slathered generously with amazing sauce. The Carolina Buffalo is a winner. Mustard-based bbq with a plethora of buffalo sauce thrown in. My taste buds were happy. Uhh...they need to make a Carolina Buffalo pizza. (No brainer, yeah?) The only thing that sank my happy sailing dinner experience was the pizza. A little lackluster and the sauce was a bit reminiscent of box pizza from the frozen section in the grocery store. Maybe our slices had been sitting out for a bit, but didn't have the freshest of textures. I did appreciate the crust and enjoyed sopping up the remainder of the wing sauce with them. I can't say that the pizza was banging on all cylinders or a culinary breakthrough, but is definitely reliable. The combo of wings and pizza in one meal from the street, though? Baller status. Grab a tallboy and it's all over. Foodtruck heaven. So happy to have finally tried these guys out and can't wait to see them at Chowdown Uptown in the near future! Carolina Buffalo Pizza, guys!
