I've tried Horace's twice now. The first time was over a year ago when I got some fried chicken. I remember being overwhelmed by how sweet the sauce it was coated in was. It wasn't hot or spicy but just incredibly sweet like they used way too much sugar in their recipe. Enough time had gone by and I pass by the stand where they operate out of enough that eventually I decided to give it another shot. This time I went with a chicken sandwich. Unfortunately the same problem arose. For me it just comes down to taste and I did not enjoy it. It felt like the party was coated in candy with how sugary and sweet it tasted. It was a big sandwich and I actually couldn't finish it because I was overwhelmed by the sweetness. It's probably worth noting that I have cut a lot of sugar out of my diet over the years and no longer eat much desert foods. Therefore I could be oversensitive to it. That being said I just couldn't enjoy my meal and I can't say I would recommend to friends.

Chicken sandwich - very messy as you can see lol

A group of us decided to try out Horace's chicken sandwiches for lunch. It was very messy. It wasn't spicy, it was more on the sweet side. It was very sweet. It was a big portion for $12.99 and comes with a side. I probably wouldn't get it again because of how sweet the sandwich tasted.

It was just okay. I had to travel about 15 minutes back to work once I picked up food and my chicken sandwich was soggy. The bread and sauce were stuck to the wrapper and I had to put the sandwich back together. The salt and pepper chicken wings were alright as well. The breading was thicccckkkk. But if that's your jam you'll love these. The hush puppies and mac and cheese again were alright. I don't know. It was nice to try but I definitely wouldn't say you need to rush to this place. I think my experience would have been better if I ate my sandwich immediately.

One word: amazing. I have seen the sidewalk signs in uptown recently advertising the pickup location for Horace's Fried Chicken. Seemed interesting, so one day I googled the restaurant to see what that was all about. When I did, I came across all these 4- and 5-star reviews talking about how good the chicken was, how easy delivery was, etc. so since I was intrigued, I decided to try the fried chicken sandwich. I love a good hot fried chicken sandwich and although a lot of restaurants claim to have the best, there's only 1 or 2 that I've tried in Charlotte that lived up to the hype. One seafood restaurant on S. Blvd had my top spot until I "met Horace". Based on some of the reviews I read, I decided to order directly through DoorDash since I get delivery at no cost plus I didn't have to walk over to the pickup spot. To meet the order minimum, I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and a slice of pecan pie. The driver had some trouble finding my building or parking but he got there in a reasonable amount of time and seeing the 10x10x5 cake box with my name on it put a smile on my face. I thought that was a great presentation. As for the food - Wow... the reviews did not exaggerate! The hot fried chicken sandwich is now my personal favorite in the area. I loved the slaw and pickles on the sandwich, and the breading was perfectly crispy just like if a server brought it right out of the kitchen to my table. The sauce - AMAZING! Perfect amount of saltiness and spiciness without being overly spicy. It was just really flavorful. And really big too, I wanted to eat the whole thing because it was so good, but I could only finish half. When I reheated the other half the next day, it was just as good!! The Mac and cheese surprised me. I'm skeptical about restaurant Mac and cheese, which isn't always as good as the one your mom or auntie makes, but this was pretty good! The custard was more on the runny side when I first got it, but as it sat, it solidified more and then the texture was actually perfect. Plus it had really good flavor. I planned to only eat a little bit but couldn't stop going back for more. The pecan pie was really good. Had a dollop of really good, fresh (probably homemade) whipped cream. I'm not usually a fan of pecan pie but I ate the whole thing. I have been telling everyone who likes fried chicken about this place. And hoping they like it as much as I do. When we ordered again recently, I got the sandwich and Mac again, but my husband got the wings. They were huge! He ate off of them wangs for at least 2, maybe 3 meals! Really happy about getting another sandwich sometime soon. I hope Horace stays around for a long time!

Super good spicy chicken sandwhiches!!! This is up there as a top 3 for me in Charlotte for chicken sandwhiches. It's a great bang for your buck in terms of quality and quantity. Mac-n-cheese is great also. I have two small downsides to all the up's. I think fries as a side option would be popular. Biggest issue though is the hours they're open. I always crave this only to find out they're closed. Please stay open so I can get it more often. Recommend this spot for sure with all that said. I just wish it were open later at night.

I have found my new favorite chicken sandwich. Upon seeing a picture of it, I really wanted to try it. We obviously got Horace's Favorite Fried Chicken Sandwich (chose mac and cheese as our side). We also tried the Dark Meat chicken and wings (Horace's Hot). If you don't like spicy food, don't worry. This advertises itself as hot, but it's not very spicy. It's more seasoned than it is spicy. The chicken and seasoning were amazing. The chicken sandwich was hands down my favorite. The bun was amazing. The chicken was flavorful. The pickles and slaw were perfect. I also really loved the dark meat chicken. It comes with a small serving of pickles, slaw, and some kind of sweet mustard sauce which the menu doesn't tell you. The mac and cheese was absolutely delicious. The one thing I was disappointed by was the wings. Don't get me wrong, they were good. If they were the only thing I ordered, I probably would have loved them. They had so much less seasoning/sauce than the sandwich and dark meat chicken though. I would stick with the other two things next time. This place is delivery only. They also have a small delivery area (which of course doesn't come to my house). If you're in the same situation, put in a park within a couple miles of uptown as the delivery address and eat there. They are on DoorDash, but I ordered from their website directly hoping to save them the fees DoorDash charges. What they don't tell you until after you order, is that the website uses DoorDash under the covers too. I have a credit card that gives me a free DashPass, so I could have saved $7 in fees if I had used DoorDash directly instead. Skip the website and just use DoorDash. If you like fried chicken, this is a must try!

Banana pudding, chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese, pickles

Amazingly fresh and delicious fried chicken. I had mine with homemade cole slaw and pickles (sweet, not dill). I also tried the Mac and cheese which was baked and flavorful. I wasn't a big fan of the banana pudding. It was a bit watery and had a lemon twist to it. I absolutely plan on ordering from them again. The wings are calling my name. Note: Delivery only

    Gluten-Free Nashville Hot Fried Chicken

I want to give this place 10 stars!!!! Don't miss eating at this little kiosk with outrageously good food. Don't skip the Chicken on a Stick - homeless fried chicken, fried pickles & honey dipping sauce. The smoky honey sauce is worth eating with a spoon. The chicken is so crispy, so flavorful and so perfectly prepared. I can't say enough good things about the gluten-free fried chicken. Okay y'all. I love food more than normal people. I can only think of a handful of foods I WOULDN'T try. Sadly, I've become very lactose & gluten sensitive, so most restaurant food and dining is off-limits. One of my greatest losses is fried chicken. It's SO HARD to find gluten-free fried chicken. It's even more impossible to find flavorful GF fried chicken. So glory be to all good things in the world this Nashvilke Hot Fried Chicken is 100% pure magic. I laid down after eating it, feeling like I could die without any more wants in my life. Lots of dairy-free and gluten-free goodness. We have a REQUIRED stop in Charlotte now. Thanks, Horace!!!

Horaces hot chicken is a must try for all chicken sandwich addicts out there. It brings a different spin to the traditional hot chicken. The heat comes towards the end of the bite and it's cooled off with the delicious pickles and coleslaw. I haven't been able to venture outside of the Mac and cheese because it's simply that good. The whole experience from start to finish with this ghost kitchen is great.

If you follow their Instagram, it's only a matter of time before those pictures pull you right on in. Plus, after visiting Nashville earlier in the year and tasting the real deal, I wanted to see what this place was hitting on. I clicked on their link in their bio that took me directly to their website. The website is very thorough and easy to navigate. I selected my items and submitted my order. Once the order confirms it'll tell you an estimated time for food pick up. However, I saw an option to choose your pick up time too which can be hours out. That's pretty dope! This restaurant co-operates within another restaurant if I'm understanding correctly so they don't actually have a brick and mortar with seating. They only provide pick up and delivery. Once you arrive to the location, you are greeted by a worker and you just notify them of the name your order is under. Or you may see your order on the table. Okay, on to the dish! For my first time, I decided to order the fried chicken sandwich. When I unraveled the packaging my sauce was all over the place which I was a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be soggy. Fortunately, it wasn't but it sure was messy. I took my first bite and babbbbyyy, let me tell you! My mind was studying that thing. I was trying to assess all the flavoring as each chew gave a different taste. It was the crunch of the coleslaw, the sauce, the tanginess of the pickles, and the seasoned chicken for me! Ohh, and the bread! I'm not sure what kind of bread it was but it was good too. I ordered the potato salad as a side. Potato salad is not something you can order everywhere but I was exploring so I tried it. I took about five bites of it as I continued to try to figure it out. It definitely requires an acquired taste. It has onions in it and I believe horseradish. Those two things made it not my favorite. However, I can see someone loving it because it is quite unique. It just didn't deserve my love! Ya'll I ate that sandwich at about 2pm. I wasn't even hungry again for the rest of the day to my surprise. I'll be back again!

Ghost kitchen prepared a very tasty, not too spicy, hot chicken sandwich. If you are picking up and no one is at the stand, call the number posted and they come out right away.

Two drums -- the gluten free batter is amazing

This delivery-only Hot Fried Chicken restaurant has been taking social media by mystery storm! Ever since a local magazine wrote a piece about them, it's hard to order for peak times. But if you're dedicated like me, you'll eventually get through. The taste of the batter is really delicious, and I love the salt sprinkled on top! Really, the batter is what makes this chicken! The chicken is battered in gluten free batter and fried in a cast iron skillet. Then it's sprinkled with spices and topped with coarse salt -- a tasty addition. Hot chicken lovers be warned though: if you love heat, this chicken may meet your spicy needs. Supposedly, they'll add more heat if you make a note of it in your order. What I've ordered Horace's Favorite Fried Chicken Sandwich: served with coleslaw, spicy mayo, and pickles a bunch of Dark Meat boxes: thigh and drumstick Hush Puppies (they're AWESOME!) Mac n Cheese, with really cool noodles and good flavor Banana Pudding (good flavor but a bit soupy in texture) Ordering is simple yet complicated...if you're in the delivery radius and get online just in time before the crowd, you can order your chicken for scheduled delivery. Due to high demand, they often have to pause ordering (showing that they're closed online) to make sure they can keep up with orders coming in. So plan ahead and be fast when ordering!

Horace's Hot Fried Chicken might take my number one spot for the best fried chicken in Charlotte. I am very impressed by their spice blend on the fried chicken and by the crunch of their breading.

This was a critical mistake, as their entire system relies on notifying customers when food is ready. I was originally told the wait time would be about 30 minutes. I returned after nearly 50 minutes, only to find that my food still wasn't ready. After waiting even longer, I eventually learned that the delay was due to my number being entered incorrectly, meaning I never received any notification that my food was ready--or possibly even completed. What should have been a quick stop for food at 5:20 PM turned into a nearly 2.5-hour ordeal, with us not receiving our food until around 7:50 PM. To make matters worse, when we asked about the delay, we were told the wait was an hour--contradicting the original 30-minute estimate. To top it off, the food itself was disappointing. The rice and noodles were hard, as if they were either undercooked or improperly cooked on the grill. The shrimp were the only part of the meal that actually tasted good. This entire situation could have easily been avoided if the staff had simply confirmed my contact information properly. When your system depends on accurate phone numbers, it's essential to double or even triple check that information with customers. Very disappointing experience overall.

The exterior of the building is beautiful, decked out in a beautiful blue paint with pink roses (later discovered, to honor the Mrs Queen Beulah herself. We came here on a whim, after no more clucks could be given; the other food options in that area were either a long wait, or about to close. So after rumbling tummies, no clucks were given and we headed to Beulah's. I ordered a chicken Sammie, some fries and a Coca-Cola since I'm just a classic cluck, and it was all fantastic... some might say, im-peck-able! This place was way better than the popular Chicken chain with the cows (you know the one). It was clean, quick and tasty. The breading at Beulah's was perfectly seasoned and crisped, thick in all the right places, and the chicken quality was bawking fantastic - juicy, moist and there were no weird tidbits of chicken junk in there, which was very much appreciated. The fries were just the right thickened, seasoned and fried to perfection. After eating, my tummy was stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving by the end of my meal. But I can't forget about the signature sauce, which was also yummy, similar to that of a Canes or Chick-fil-A. Just the right balance of tangy, sweet, salty, savory - they nailed it! They also had various dessert options including cookies and icecream. It was all phenomenal! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I was clucking all the way home, expressin how much I enjoyed it to the gal pals. Plus, reading Beulah's story and family history that was framed on the wall, by our table, brought a shedding tear to my eye, just like when I watch jeopardy every night. I mean who doesn't cry at jeopardy. Buyer beware: Restaurant space inside is limited, bawk (but), they have a covered patio with plenty of seats, and here it seems more of a grab n go place anyways. Parking was fairly close and accessible too. I regret to inform I didn't have the opportunity to check out the restrooms, but I'm sure they were of fine suit. Conclusion: I would most certainly come back, in the instant I'm back in town. I love chickens and I love eating them more.

When I looked at the menu, the crispy avocado sandwich immediately caught my eye -- half an avocado stuffed with Gouda cheese and deep-fried. Did your cholesterol just go up reading that? Mine did. I had to order it, though -- I'm visiting from California, and we basically sign paperwork in second grade promising to eat avocado with every meal. Then I noticed for a little over $4 more, you can add a grilled or fried chicken filet to this glorious monstrosity. I went with grilled, because obviously I'm trying to eat healthy. Did I mention the fried pickles I got on the side? Delicious. I couldn't even finish the whole thing, and that was ten hours ago -- I'm still not hungry. Anyway, that beast of a sandwich was fantastic. It'll live forever in my memory as something I ate with equal parts pride and shame. Highly recommended.
