We purposely came here with our granddaughters because of the name of the place, they call me Pop's. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the food and service. The burger was average and bun was soggy, I found a hair in it. My wife's salad was iceberg lettuce and looks like a bag salad. The kids mini corn dogs look like something out of a box from Sams. We ordered our food at 1:35pm and it was served at 2:40pm OVER 1 HOUR to get it. The grandkids (2&4) we being really good but the wait was really testing their patience as with our too! read more

Great food! 3 of us had the double with cheese and 1 a bacon cheese burger. All were delicious! I had onion rings and the rest had fries. Both were great as well! Chocolate shake was very good also!! Cool little burger joint, very kitschy. It was busy when we arrived at 3pm on a Saturday. The line moved quickly, they give you an order number to remember. We went with their bbq burger and Mexican style burger. Food did take around 25 minutes to come out, but was hot and fresh. Though the Mexican burger was missing its pico de gallo but we were hungry so didn't say anything. Fries were tasty, ketchup comes in single serve packets though this was the only covid restriction we saw in place, no social distancing, no masks required, staff weren't even wearing masks - though everywhere we went in Waxahachie didn't seem to care about masks. Burgers were good, onion rings were more onion strings. I enjoyed the old skool Dinco gas station vibe going on. Be careful though I nearly slipped getting my soda refill. read more

With all the choices of burger place in Ellis County there's no better burger than Pop's. I especially like mine with a fried egg. But as great as the burgers, fries, onion rings are you should not pass up the frosty mug of root beer right out of the keg. It's delicious and so cold you'll get a brain freeze. read more

Pops is a local favorite in Waxahachie. I thought the ambiance was pretty fun, definitely gave like the old school burger joint vibe. The sodas are all fountain drinks. The food was brought out very quickly which I enjoy because no one likes waiting forever. The fries I thought were sub par, lots of little pieces and not full fries. However they did seem like they were potato cut. The burger was nice and thick and tasted like it was charcoal cooked but I could be wrong. The bun fell apart pretty easily on my burger. My appreciation for the mom and POP was elevated after visiting Pop's burger stand. My children and I had a lovely time waiting for our food as we got to chat with the ladies at the front counter and they kept us entertained. It has a very welcoming feeling to it and the nostalgic decor kept my 8 year old very entertained. The meal was amazing! I'm from out west and the fries and burger reminded me so much of Dick's burgers in Seattle, I loved every second of it. (It literally only took me seconds to devour the food lol). Good burger place! We ordered the "slow cooked burger" and just a couple of regular Pop's cheeseburgers. The 3 of us shared an order of fries and an order of onion rings. The staff was polite to us and brought us our food. The music was cool too. Classic rock n roll like the Beatles and the doors. The decor is like an old diner or burger joint. Lots of pictures of corvettes and hot rods. Texas Ranger wall, local highschool sports wall, and old highway signs. Lots of stuff to look at while waiting for your burger. We had a couple sips of our beer and before you know it the burgers were on the table. The slow cooked burger was great. Think western burger. Bbq sauce, grilled onions, and bacon. The pops burger was great too. Lettuce, tomato and onion all tasted fresh, the patty had good flavor and the bun held it all together well. The fries were cut real skinny, and they tasted awesome. The onion rings were also cut thin and lightly battered. Well done pops! The table was a little sticky, but we didn't care. We made a couple of makeshift table cloths out of the paper towels on the table and it was all good. Would eat there again. Good lunch! read more

I love Pop's Burger Stand! This was my first time visiting in around 2 years, and it remains utterly delightful. The prices are reasonable, only costing 10-13 dollars per meal. I got the J-Bird Salad, and the chicken was so fresh. The employee taking our order was very kind and she complimented my phone case! Our food came out very quickly, taking about 10 minutes in the kitchen. This meal left me satisfied without breaking the bank. I will be back soon. read more

Awesome Burger, Most Bestest Onion Rings Ever ... every time we pass Waxahachie we will stop in for a visit. We were coming back from visiting Baylor and it was around dinner time. We looked for area burger spots and found Pops. A little off the highway, but it gets great reviews so let's go! Parking lot was packed. Lots of customers and lots of to-go orders. We both ordered the Vroom Burger which was a big Angus beef patty with provolone and sautéed mushrooms... I added LTO&P. It took about 20 min for the order to come out, and when it did it was worth the wait. The burger just so tasteful, and those onion rings... they had to have been handmade fresh. The batter was thin, flaky and slightly seasoned. As soon as we tasted them we put in another double order to go. Two things that you could improve: 1) The wait time seemed like forever on both orders and 2) ketchup packets, that's so cruel to do to ketchup lovers. But, it was so good, you still get 5 stars!!! read more

I think Pop's has a big following from years ago. It's a cute little walk up burger stand. I think you will find their food to meet expectations. I really wanted to go there and have them knock my socks off. I feel like the patties are thin, the servings are sparse (onion rings, FF etc.). I ordered the fried bologna sandwich the other day and was super excited to try something new here. Literally had thin slices on Texas toast. All I tasted was bread. It's bologna it's cheap...pile it on. We always do take out so unsure if it's different from staying there and eating. I see some room for improvements but otherwise decent food. read more

POPS OBITUARY I have lived in Waxahachie for three years. Prior to Covid Pops was the best burger, fries, onion rings, customer service and atmosphere I have ever had. Trust me I am old and a foodie so when I say that, I don't say it lightly. Since Covid, Pops has been a consistent horrible flop... a huge disappointment. Everything changed though I wish it hadn't! The atmosphere is dirty and customer service rude with chronically overwhelmed staff. Most regrettably, the food is awful now. Several times, I keep going back trying to conjure up the sweet memories of the days of old, hoping that Pops will resurface to its former greatness, like a drug addict returning to a high they can no longer achieve! My son said "Pops is awful now let's just go to Whataburger," But I insisted again last night that we have to try Pops and see if it's magically transformed. The results: small flat burger patties that were fried so intensely they were literally black and I could snap part of it off (literally it made a snapping sound!). The bacon inside my burger was so tough that I could not chew it. I had to pull it out and throw it away. Pops onion rings used to be a highlight. The onion rings I ordered last night took forever and when I opened my twisted paper bag there was a small wad of gooey half-cooked onion-ring-like material that was inedible. No ranch dressing either, which used to be a delish bonus. The fries were like the toes and fingers of dwarves stuffed into a twisted paper bag, unsalted and cold. The price for two burgers, a fry, and onion ring and two chocolate shakes? Over $30! I would have gladly paid that price if Pops just would have been delicious like it used to be. "There's no place like home, there's no place like home!" Wishing a deluded wish, closing my eyes and clicking my heels together just will not fix this problem! Last night my son and I simply threw Pops into the trash. As I write this and think about what I did eat, I have become nauseated. I will not be coming back to Pops no matter how much my heart yearns for the days of yesteryear! Whoever owns Pops needs to take heed quickly and fix these problems. They owe Waxahachie an apology and should make an announcement that they have corrected this mess before they go out of business! I'm giving Pops one star only because it's impossible to give them a zero or a negative rating. read more

Very welcoming and I truly appreciate that, but the bacon that I ordered on my burger was tough causing me to pull it out of the burger when I bit it. I looked at it and you could see the green discoloration all over it. The meat was seasoned well and the onion rings were great. read more

I especially love that they standardly give you a side of ranch to go with the onion rings. Kudos to them for the vegetarian option. The black bean burger tasted like what you'd expect, just slightly overlooked. I appreciated the option because my family tends to skip on the burger places when I'm around.
