Live free or fry! Great place for lunch outside near the water. The menu is loaded with tons of fried options. They open at 11:30 and close around 3 to filter the oil. They have kids meals and they are served on a frisbee. We stop here every year we're in town! Cash only!

3-3.5 stars! I have come to Pop's Clam Shell a number of times! The environment is a lot of fun! They have a decent amount of seating outside and also have a small building beside where you order that is indoor. They have a balcony you can sit at too. The prices are pretty high! I know it's seafood, but for what you get can feel really over priced at times! The employees are awesome! Super kind and helpful. The food was ok! I think my favorite was the fried scallops! Anything fried here pretty much tasted the same to me! I needed to add a lot of salt and the batter was pretty tasteless...I think I enjoyed the view of the lake and environment more than the food if I was honest with myself! I think I would come back but would make sure I was getting the "right" thing here...someone recommended the Philly Cheesesteak to us once, so many I would try that next time even though it's a seafood place! :)

    Yum!!!

First of all, just know that they only accept cash, no credit cards. But that said, this was a wonderful find, if you love fresh seafood. Had the scallops basket, and the scallops were so fresh and juicy! Actually, after learning that they only accept cash, I found myself 16 cents short, so I was about to order something else, but the young man taking my order, allowed me to get the scallop basket anyway! No indoor seating. Picnic tables nearby. Sits right along Alton Bay, so nice scenery to look at. Will stop by again, if in the neighborhood, but this time bringing lots of cash!

Stopped by pops on the way back from a hike. It was still pretty early so the line wasn't too bad. The girl working the register was very nice and helpful. We got a medium onion ring and a burger. The onion rings needed salt but besides that they were perfect. Definitely the best ones I've had and the portion size was insane! The burger and fries were decent.

This is a community favorite and for good reason: the seafood is exceptionally cooked and the classic lakeside, vintage feel is approachable and still well maintained. This trip, we went to Morrissey's three times for lunch/ice cream and once for dinner. For dinner, we sat in the main dining room. Admittedly, service was a bit slower than some people liked in our party (but I was okay with waiting for it, I'm on lake time!) that was the only qualm we had at dinner was how the service was slow because they are obviously understaffed. When we came for lunch with a smaller party, we decided to sit at the bar instead which is on the other side of the building and more of a dive bar feel: an Irish pub. All of the meals were great, but we preferred sitting in the bar and got much faster service there during our lunch. Of all of the food we've tried, my favorites were the fried scallop and the Cajun shrimp bruschetta. And the Mac and cheese was yummy! But everything has tasted great! And you can't go wrong with some ice cream! Make a reservation if you're planning on doing dinner, but expect a slower pace. So maybe have a snack or don't come starving and know it will be a little slower. But worth the wait in my opinion! Or sit at the bar if you're okay with music and a little bit of a louder environment during your meal with your party.

She took the time to tell me the different options. We also discussed black raspberry ice cream. They sell both soft serve and hard ice cream. They flavor there soft serve with syrup so you can get black raspberry soft serve. The picnic benches outside were nice to eat at. The fried clams were very good. I enjoyed having lemon wedges, catsup and tarter sauce. I truly didn't need the fries and Cole slaw. It was plenty enough food. I decided to go for the black raspberry hard ice cream and boy was I disappointed. I got a pile of pink incense cream that didn't taste like black raspberry at all. I've eaten this flavor in a New England since I was a child. My first job was scooping ice cream at the Broadway dinner in Worcester, MA. There was NO way that was black raspberry. I told the 2nd girl that helped me and she said that's just the way it comes. On top of it there was something white hanging off the side. She replaced it with black raspberry Oreo and that was purple and tasted like dirty black raspberry. I had a hard time eating it and would never have their ice cream again. Pops has better seafood and the ice cream place across the street was better as well.

Service was great, especially considering how busy it was. The ladies behind the bar kept things moving! We ordered drinks (excellent Manhattan, btw) and some food. While waiting for the food, we had a nice chat with two locals who have lived here all their lives and that contributed to the fun vibe of the place. You hear about taciturn folks in the Northeast but we had several people talk to us, but then again, maybe we stuck out and everyone could easily tell we weren't local. In any event, it was lovely. The food was good too. Shrimp cocktail was on point but the highlight were the chicken tenders. The portion was gigantic...we were expecting maybe four tenders and there were something like eight! They were fried perfectly too. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside....really well done. As we were leaving, there were people already waiting for tables so this must be a very popular place to eat and based on my experience (friendly environment, great service, terrific food) it's not hard to see why. Definitely check out The Breeze if you're in the area.

The salad appeared to have been dressed with apple sauce mixed with water(!) and nothing else, and the pork chop tasted of ammonia and some other chemical. It was dry and inedible. Took one small bite, even though the smell was entirely off-putting. Tossed in the trash at home. A very expensive experience for what it was. The one star is for the welcoming and amiable wait staff. In spite of the super cold dining room in which we were seated (some of the folks in our party, including me, resorted to wearing coats and hats during the meal to get warm!), they were cheerful and attentive. The cook did come out into the dining room toward the very end of the evening and put the wall-mounted heater on, which took some of the edge off the cold. Lastly, on exiting the building, watch your step! There's a drop of about 2 feet as you approach the door to the parking lot. Anyone with mobility challenges may be unable to navigate this and/or the black ice in the parking lot.
