We went this Saturday morning to eat here. The people greeted us with a smile right away and immediately sat us at a table. The waitress came over instantly and asked us for our drink orders. She came back in no time and took our orders after me telling to her to come back three separate times because I was still half asleep looking for the food I wanted. The food came out in about 20-30 minutes, which was great considering the restaurant was full by the time I ordered mine. My husband got the sausage plate and I got the pancake combo. Sausage plate, he was so full he didn't even get a chance to touch the eggs at all. They gave him like a huge cut up potatoe which he tried to eat all of, so of course he thought it was good. I tried his sausage link , it tasted so good, and was very hot, temperature wise. He said his sausage pattys were delicious too. Along with his toast. My pancakes were not as yummy as I had hoped considering I just went to Village Inn the other morning and was delighted by their melt in your mouth pancakes. The bacon I got was very chewy, it was good, but I like a little crisp to mine and it was slightly cold. My scrambled eggs with cheese had gross peices of potatoes in them. . .I dont like potatoes in my eggs personally, so either they make them that way or they dont clean the stove prior to cooking other foods. read more

Have come here multiple times over the last couple weeks. I really enjoy their burgers, they are so juicy and tasty. In addition to that their fries are next level good, they are literally so good!! Wishing for possible vegetarian skillets & garden burgers and a vegan dish in the future. This is our family's most favorite place for breakfast. Everything here is wonderful. The first time we ever ate here, we fell in love with the pancakes. They HAD a chocolate & peanut butter chip pancakes that had us so addicted, we started coming every weekend and any weekday we had off. Sadly, they no longer serve the PB chocolate chips, but we still love the pancakes. I really wish that one day they will come back with that flavor. (Hint hint) :) The customer service here is wonderful!! They're friendly and fast. We are always greeted at the entrance with smiles. I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with this place. The food is always well presented and well prepared. Stumbled across this spot on a Sunday afternoon. We all had taste for different food (some wanted breakfast and some wanted lunch). This was the perfect spot... not to mention kids eat free! Kids eat free every day. Awesome!!!! The food is yummy and portions are perfect. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is cozy and clean. They have excellent food. As a vegetarian they don't have a lot of options, but because everything is made to order they are really good about not including meat in the order. I got the Morning Moon Sandwich without bacon and it was so good. The avocado was ripe and the salsa was perfect. I also got a side of fruit and that was not great. The strawberries looked like they were about to go bad and the grapes were mushy and the pineapple tasted sour. My son got the FREE kids meal with French toast and scrambled eggs. He ate the entire thing! This is a big fest considering he has been refusing solid food for the past 3 days because he has molars coming in. My husband got the Kielbasa & Eggs which came with a side of a single pancake. He couldn't finish it! He said it was amazing and wants to go back there next week. Good Ol' Pop's Diner. This place is one of the best for breakfast no matter what location we have gone to. They are consistently good and the staff is very welcoming. It's a cute little place with spunk. I have tried several dishes, just to be adventurous, and none of them have failed me yet. My favorite is the sausage link breakfast. Yummy! This was my first time trying this establishment and sadly, my last. Of course, the food in the pictures look good. But I guess that was because the other Yelpers were dining in. My fiance and I ordered to go and when I say the presentation was disappointing. The "home fries" looked NOTHING like they did in other people's pictures. If anything, it was just mush with a little bit of mozzarella cheese. I ordered that along with the biscuits and gravy, and the biscuits didn't taste fresh at all. It was like they thawed it, stuck it in the oven, then slapped gravy on top. My fiance had the shrimp and grits which was a little soupy (he had already ate half by the time I even took a picture of my food). He enjoyed it for the moment, only to puke all of it up later on. You can make everything they serve at your own place and it will taste just as good, maybe even better. So you're really just paying for someone to cook for you and do your dishes. Average place with quick food and limited seating. The coffee was bad. I got the southwest omelette which was full of flavor but too much cheese for my taste. Others may like the strings of Swiss connecting each bite. The hash browns were good, fried with onions. The food came out fast. Asked for 2 coffee and water with no ice. Ended up with 1 coffee and water with ice. She corrected herself with the coffee but not the water. Entrees aren't available on Sunday so there's that but kids eat for free everyday so there's a balance. read more

If I could just clone Pop's Diner someplace in the DMV then all in my world would be right! They were awesome! We went to a nearby Walmart and saw it when we passed it and decided to TRY to get a table. The parking lot was packed so we weren't optimistic. But while sitting in the car at Walmart I decided to look at the menu and the food pics on Yelp and made an executive decision to just go there anyway and let the wait for a table be whatever it is. Well at noon on a Sunday we managed to get a table with NO wait. The place was packed but larger on the inside than it looks from the outside, hence the available tables. And we did have a great seat in a booth. The food was just EVERYTHING! Every bite gave me life without parole! I had the kielbasa and eggs (like WHO makes kielbasa and eggs besides at someone's home?) and home fries. And my husband had the French toast, eggs, home fries, sausage and fruit. We both had a Hawaiian mimosa, a large and a small, and not only did they taste great but you definitely felt the fever of the flavor. . Everything was just amazing but the home fries were phenomenal. Evvvvvvverybody knows that righteous home fries make the breakfast legit and these home fries are certified legit! Ate here on. Saturday after spending most of the day working around the house. We got here around 2:30 Pm and were seated promptly. Our server was very helpful and even placed my cane out of the way at the servers station. Our order was taken promptly and and the food arrived at our table hot and perfectly cooked. My medium burger still had just a little pink on the inside the way I like it! My partner had the turkey cranberry sandwich and she raved about it all afternoon. Reasonable prices, great food, excellent service, and subdued atmosphere all added up to a perfect late weekend lunch. I plan on making this a regular thing. read more

Most of the time, when we want breakfast for lunch or dinner, we go to IHOP...until now. Pops Diner won the 2009 "best kept secret" Best of Hampton Roads award. It's not the best kept secret anymore, as we had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. It was well worth the wait. I ordered what I say is the best omelet I have ever had..IN LIFE! It was a simple ham, onion and cheese omelet. I made no sense how good that omelet was. I'm actually updating this about a month later, and I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT THAT OMELET! It was amazing. Pop's is always my go to when I want a great burger. There burger is the best in the area to me. I always get the one eye burger which is 2 large beef patties, topped with bacon, over easy egg, lettuce tomatoes and onions. They cook it to perfection. I always ask for it medium. OK, lately, it seems to be hit or miss with Pop's. While the staff is excellent, their food can border on average to downright tasteless sometimes. They are inconsistent which I am not happy about. I don't go out to eat often, but when I do I want to get the quality for what I'm paying for. Breakfast foods are not expensive and yet, there seems to be a real issue in South Hampton Roads in general with getting it right. I will still go to Pop's occasionally, but the inconsistency in their food prep/quality will ensure that I seek out other places to dine for breakfast. It would have been nice to have a consistently good neighborhood breakfast place to go to which has good quality food and is comfortable... guess I have to keep looking. :-( read more

I tried Pop's this weekend and I'm glad I did. I've lived in the area for over a year and every time I go to Wal-Mart, I always tell myself I need to try that place! Especially since breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal(s) of the day. I ordered Pop's Special & exchanged the toast for a short stack of pancakes. Well, Pop did not disappoint! Pop's Diner has bumped IHOP and Denny's from the place to go for a good breakfast. It's not open 24 hours like the big chains, so they can keep their market share for the post-party carb spot. Pop's is the place to go for great food and friendly service. Pop's Breakfast is what they are known for. The waffles and pancakes taste better than any I've ever had. The eggs and bacon are quality side-shows to the main acts. The waffle, in particular, will ruin you for other diners. It's that good. I've never been let down by their sandwiches or dinners, either. The combo spaghetti has quality noodles (taste almost like they were made in the diner, but not quite) smothered in very fresh tasting tomato sauce, melted cheese, mushrooms, pepperoni, and two hearty meatballs. I'm a 6 foot, 200+lb dude, and I've always had enough leftovers for an encore meal. I'm never a fan of quantity over quality-- this is great food that just happens to be served in a huge bowl. There are only two Pop's Diners that I know of-- this one and the one in Chesapeake. I've eaten at both, and the overall take is the same. The wife and I were out for lunch and I suggested this as an option. And, overall, we were fairly pleased with the experience. We were seated right away and our server was attentive for our entire meal. I ordered some sort of steak sandwich. It's been a couple of weeks (yes, I have a tendency to procrastinate) and I have forgotten, though I think it was the greek steak sandwich. It was quite good and I would definitely get it again. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak (CFS) with mashed potatoes and fried okra and when it came out, they had given her green beans. So, we told our server and she brought some okra out shortly. When she brought the okra, she said "You can just keep the green beans". Really? Did you plan to take them back from us after YOU made the mistake? I think the Health Department might have something to say about that. Anyway, the CFS, mashed potatoes, and okra were pretty good. The sausage gravy was only OK, though. That was disappointing. It was a good lunch and I think we would go back again for lunch. I also would like to try breakfast. There were some pretty good looking breakfast dishes coming out around us, so that is another review in the future. read more

This was my first time dining at this restaurant and I'm so glad I did! I am a sucker for eating breakfast foods for dinner so this was place was quite the gem. I got the Hangover Cure which consisted of chicken fried steak and gravy, eggs and grilled onions over a bed of potatoes served on a skillet. The portion was massive and for a decent price.
