Classic drive in
Brian M.

I've stopped at Pop's a handful of times over the years. Pop's is an original fast food/custard drive in that's been in existence for 30+ years. In all the time that's passed I think the majority of Pop's original nature still remains today. A sheer fluke I'm sure, but today I felt I took a step through time. There were 5 individual customers spread around the cozy (small) inside dining area and 4 employees. I'm in my 40's and I would guess I was the youngest person there by about 20-25 years. Kind of made me chuckle and think of Happy Days. The old gang reuniting at Al's Diner 50 years later. I'm not from Menomonee Falls, but I imagine the locals are quite nostalgic of their little place called Pop's. Pretty standard fast food faire with prices you'd expect. Many probably return to reminisce of visits from their youth. I think most of us probably have that home town "go to" drive in location somewhere.

This longtime diner in the Menomonee Falls neighborhood is definitely worth a visit! It has the oldschool interior design, and the food here is just what you would expect it is - cheesy greasy tasty and satisfying. We had the grilled cheese, hot chili dog and loaded potato fries, sooo good! They also have frozen custard freshly available each day, super delicious!

I finally made over to Pops while shopping in the area, hell its lunch time and a burger sounded good. The place is in a strip mall and doesn't look like much until you walk in and it's like country charm on the inside. The place is small and cozy, I can see this place being standing room only during peek summer times. The menu has everything from butter burgers to fish and shrimp but I was there for a burger. The burgers are ala carte which means I ordered the jumbo burger for $3.99 and they ask what you want on it and I got bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, mayo and ketchup $$$$. Toppings are all extra which I'm fine with so my jumbo burger ended up at $6.50 The jumbo butter burger must be a sarcastic name because there was nothing jumbo about it at all, smaller than a whopper. The beef patty was very thin and slightly thicker than the super thin tomato slices while the raw onion was so thin that I could barely even see it. The lettuce was the thickest topping and the nice leafy kind, thank you. The bun was a nice soft/light style which complemented the bacon cheeseburger well. Overall it was an ok burger with the patty being moist and you could actually taste the beef with all the fresh ingredients. Overall the jumbo butter burger is not jumbo at all but it's a decent custard store version burger, definitely not a burger destination place and in now way going to replace anyone's favorite good burger place.

Great food, custard, and service. They make things to order, so don't expect fast food.

Absolutely love every visit…read more The inside is very bright and cozy and my favorite part is the trivia shown on the tv all day every day. You can go in, get some fro yo and sit and do some trivia! Or even take to go. They change their flavors around. My absolute favorite is the cookies n cream mixed with cake batter. I love how the machines have pre mixed flavor or you can mix whatever flavors of your choice. They also frequently have a dole pineapple flavor very similar (better in my opinion) to the famous dole whip sold at Disney. It's self serve and there's a number of toppings from cereal, gummies, cookie doughs, and sauces like peanut butter, marshmallow, caramel and hot fudge. Pricing is based on the weight, at the register you weigh your fro yo(s) and pay based on the weight. Not sure what the prices is per ounce but I paid $4.98 for a medium sized cup (the green cup shown in the picture). I also love how portions of their proceeds (or all I'm not sure) on Tuesdays are donated to selected local schools. Give it a visit if you're in the area, you surely won't regret it.

Food: We got the Bacon Cheeseburger, Junior Cheeseburger, and a side combo of fries and onion rings. They make the burgers to order, so they took a while, but they were fresh and hot when they arrived. The patty was cooked to about medium, which was okay, but for a smashburger, it would have been better to leave it on the grill a bit longer to develop those nice crispy, lacy edges. The additional lettuce, tomato, and onion were generously portioned and fresh. Service: The staff was super friendly. The person who took our order was cheerful, helpful, and professional. Atmosphere: When first driving into the lot, what you notice is a very uncared-for, weedy front patio area. It's not very inviting, and nobody was sitting there. The parking lot pavement could use some refreshing as well. Overall, the exterior is a bit depressing. Inside, however, the restaurant is well lit, clean, and has a friendly atmosphere. You could tell there were lots of regulars catching up with friends and having pleasant conversations. Glad we stopped in.

I'd go inside but when I do they always forget part of my order and it doesn't move much faster. The food isn't good so it's not worth the wait but my mom wants their custard flavor of the day, so I wait. The people are friendly enough but there's no reason to wait in line even on a Friday for 15-20min for custard. That's outrageous. And quite honestly you get more for your money at Kraver's or Culver's.

The "best" local place that was open in January was The Chocolate Chisel. My family and I stopped and each got a cone. I also got three truffles. The truffles I bought were chai tea milk, experimint milk (ganache with peppermint extract), and peppermint hot chocolate. The chai tea and experimint milk truffles both tasted like they should based on their descriptions, but I wouldn't wantto buy either again. The peppermint hot chocolate had some crushed peppermint on top, but other than the chocolate being in the shape of a mug, nothing about it reminded me of hot chocolate. Ultimately I don't think any of them were worth the price. The ice cream was lackluster. Both of my kids got cookies and cream in a cake cone and thought it was skimpy on the cookies part. My wife and I sprung for waffle cones with ours and were both disappointed in the excessive cone to ice cream ratio that heavily favored the cone. She got plain chocolate and it was fine. I, however, got banana-rama and ended up throwing it out because it tasted more like butter pecan than anything banana related. I even went back inside and verified with the employee that it wasn't mislabeled in the case.
