Visited after searching for a nearby restaurant. We just ordered 3 hamburgers and a small French fry just to curb our hunger. The burgers were ok. The bun was good. My daughter, who has celiac, got a burger on gluten free bread. She liked it well enough and didn't get a stomach ache eating there. Unfortunately, she could not have the French fries, but they were definitely good! Nice and crispy! Everyone was super friendly even when I said that my daughter couldn't have gluten. Yes, we get a lot of rude encounters when we tell people she has a gluten allergy. Overall, our visit was pretty good. We have enjoyed everything we've eaten here so far! The burgers are quite tasty! Fries are always hot and crunchy! I can't do dairy, but my son LOVES the custard! Although it gets a little busy and takes a bit to get food sometimes - it's never been a huge deal. Just make sure to plan to be here a little longer during the lunch and dinner rushes. A woefully disappointing experience... I stopped in for a couple of hot dogs and was met by a very young girl behind the counter to take my order. I said that I wanted to order 2 'Chicago' style hot dogs and asked what condiments normally came with 'everything.' Once she said 'ketchup,' I stopped her and said that ketchup doesn't come on a Chicago style hot dog. In response, she shrugged her shoulders w/a blank look on her face; I then asked if the hot dogs came with sport peppers and she said "no, the only hot peppers they had were jalapenos." This verbal exchange was overheard by another employee and she assured me that sport peppers were indeed a part of the Chicago hot dogs they served. I added fries and a small coke to the order, but when she gave me the total price, I found out that the hot dogs were each a quarter pound. I said that I didn't want that, just 2 regular-sized hot dogs, made Chicago-style. She asked, "so you want 2 'baby-sized hot dogs?" I asked for clarification and the other girl said the 'baby hot dogs' were like Oscar Mayer hot dogs, so I agreed.The price was amended, but still high so I asked why each Chicago-style dog was $2 more than a regular 'baby' hot dog and she said it was because of all the additional 'Chicago-style' toppings. I was tired of all of the back-and-forth, so I just agreed and paid the $11 something bill. (keep in mind this is for 2 baby hot dogs, small fries, small Coke) My order came up and it was shocking to see what I was being served. Each hot dog was assembled in a 'toasted', plain, generic-style hot dog bun with very wet relish, chopped onion, full-sliced tomatoes with white centers, a very sour pickle spear, and mustard that had been zig-zagged in a horizontal fashion over the entire top of the length of the bun. A small order of fries was placed in another basket, a small plastic container of sport peppers, and I received a small Sprite instead of the Coke that I had ordered. With the mustard applied in their 'special' way, the hot dogs couldn't be eaten without getting my face and hands drenched in mustard. The 'baby' hot dogs were, at best, on the cold side of luke warm. These hot dogs weren't a major brand name and tasted like store-bought generics. Because the buns were 'toasted' and the relish was 'soupy' the seams of the buns had become soggy and the hot dogs fell through each bun. I squirted 'Heinz' ketchup alongside my fries and could tell by the look of the ketchup that it wasn't the Heinz brand; tasting it confirmed that it wasn't-they're obviously refilling the Heinz ketchup bottles with cheap, nasty, generic ketchup which, by the way, is illegal. Judging by the taste of the mustard, they're probably doing the same with the name brand mustard bottles. No visit by any employee to ask if everything was all right. Truly, the worst Chicago-style hot dogs I have ever had, and one of the worst fast-food dining experiences of my life, from service received pricing and fraudulent condiments. I don't think enough can ever be said about this place or enough credit can be given. Let me start by saying that the employees are absolutely the coolest when it comes to service. They really know how to treat people right and give you prompt service. No the food is definitely something to be had. Their burgers are absolutely out of this world, their fries are definitely worth it and please don't get me started on their custard. Where else can you get a blue moon kit-kat mixer (snowstorm they call it). I am absolutely floored every time I go into this place and will keep coming back because this place definitely hits home for me. The bottom line is this. Stopped in to Pops for a quick bite because we didn't want to cook. It was extremely busy with a line forming to the door. Almost left because all tables were full. Luckily we waited. Open table! Family grabbed it. Waited in line for a few minutes, ordered, and received a great burger, fries and shake. The staff was friendly and courteous even tho they were slammed. Mom and pops kind of place. Surly made me feel warm with the super nice friendly service... well thats with the older lady. It was my first time so i was tryin to read the menu while this younger boy kept forcing me to order. it's always been a summer tradition to go to pops with our family. Today was the very first time I was extremely disappointed with the food and the service. I couldn't even stomach the sandwich I ordered, and they left out a couple of items out of the bag for to go that I of course didn't see until I got home. there were two young girls running the show that seem to be giggling and making fun of customers with some inside jokes of theirs who knows. A group of men came in several minutes after I placed my order and all three of them got their food before I did which I think was odd. There was one Young male there that was working that actually did seem to be doing a really good job and was very kind. The two females, not so much. debating about calling and asking for some of the money back for the items that they didn't put in the bag but I don't want to make a big deal about it either. Unfortunately, I have to say my last two experiences at Pop's Custard have not been positive. My previous encounter had me so irate I felt the need to create my yelp account just for this review. I ordered a burger combo from the window and waited for an uncomfortable amount of time. I noticed people inside who ordered after me with their food already. When another customer was giving their order at the window the employees seemed to remember me. The worker at the window then told me that they had been announcing my name inside the restaurant for "a really long time". This seemed odd to me as I was told the food would be brought to the window. After ASKING the worker if I could just have my food I drove roughly 4 minutes home to take a bite into very cold french fries. My burger was not much warmer. I am extremely upset about this transaction and that it seemed totally normal to the employee serving me. The directions are wrong on Yelp as noted in the quick tip. But it's still easy to find on Appleton Avenue in Menomonee Falls. Went on a Saturday later in the afternoon. It was busy but not crazy. Able to snag a booth for us and the kids without a problem. Asked for menu at counter to avoid creating a roadblock while kids made their decisions. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. Go pick up your tray and enjoy. They have a variety of food. The single butterburger is small, but tasty. Advise going for the double if you are hungry or have a soon to be teenage boy to feed. Upgrade to a combo for the fry and drink but be warned the small drinks are small. Fries were hot and crispy. Burgers had good flavor. Also tried a standard chocolate shake. It was thick and custardy. If you're a custard lover, it's a good shake for you. It paired well with the fries. We also tried the jumbo Chicago dog. Appreciated the sport peppers on the side. It was a large dog. Neon green relish, raw white onions, pickle spear and tomato slice and yellow mustard. Only thing missing was the celery salt and poppy seed bun. But it was still good. No, it didn't need ketchup. A Chicago dog shouldn't need or have ketchup. Period. They also had a good variety of custard flavor choices for the day. Standard chocolate and vanilla along with pistachio, cookies and cream, berry peach, Sprecher root beer float. Surprisingly the peach berry was very good. It didn't have any of the fake cloying sweet peachy flavor to it. The Sprecher root beer float was also good. Skip the pistachio, it had very little flavor to it and was topped with peanuts. The cake cones have very narrow bases with the pre-glued on paper. There are also sugar and waffle cones to choose from. They have a variety of specialty sundaes or you can create your own. Their fountain drinks offer a decent variety-malts, shakes, floats, custard soda, black cow-and are made to order. The employees are very nice and it was clean inside. There is a lot of outside seating if the inside is crowded. They also have games at some of the inside tables to play which helps pass the time. We don't mind having to wait for food when they turn out pretty decent burgers, fries and shakes. It's a good place to take the kids. There's a lot of variety to the menu. We'll definitely go back the next time we are in the Menomonee Falls area. read more

Hands down the best custard I've ever had! Instead of heading to my normal go-to places for custard while in Wisconsin, my cousin took me to this hole in the wall and it did not disappoint! I got a flavor of the day cone (mint silk) and my cousin got an Oreo cream cone...my treat because we brought three others, and I think the total for all five cones was around $12! I would have given it 5 stars, but the place was so small there wasn't enough room for people to sit down and eat...otherwise, this place is amazing! read more

Custard is one the high points of my visits home to Wisconsin. But really, it's the custard at Pop's. Maybe it's the small mom and pop feel, maybe it's because I've been eating here since I was in middle school, but upon every visit home to the dairyland, I MUST stop in at Pop's for a butter burger and custard. I love that they always have cookies and cream as a staple flavor. Wife took my kids and mother there and the people (both the people working there and the other customers) were rude and made them feel uncomfortable. Other customers who came in were greeted warmly but my family were constantly stared at, pressured by the host asking who was paying for the meal, and then the order was incorrect. I'm black and my wife is white, so I hope the fact that she was there with 3 mixed kids and my mother wasn't an issue, but in the age of Trump who knows. read more
