I gave this place three stars for a couple of reasons...the staff was so awesome and my girlfriend loved the food. I on the other hand was not amazed by Italian Beef it didn't have much flavor and it made me want my Al's Beef on Taylor street that much more. The place was very clean and one of the cashiers kept me laughing, The seasoned fries although .50 more then the regular ones were very good and I wished I had more. I ordered a Italian beef... I just think they make theirs a different way. To me it was a little bland, the peppers weren't spicy and it just lacked "soul" in my opinion. The jalapeno poppers were tasty but you don't get much for the price. The staff seemed ok but there was something about the vibe of this establishment that was "off". I went on a Sunday at 4pm. Not busy at all. I ordered a small beef with sweet peppers and small fries, extra crispy. First, the good: the Italian beef was bigger than I thought it would be and the fries were definitely crispy, just as I requested and expected. Now, the bad: Italian beef was dry and bland, fries were oily and needed a bit more salt. The only thing that made up for the lack of flavor was the sweet peppers. I been there several times ask for a bag for the Italian beef sandwiches didn't receive and on all occasion I have lost whole sandwich due to the juices soaking through the bag. Very disappointing . Fries were luke warm, forgot the sauce, and do not ever order a grill cheese from the off the grill catagory. It was dry hard toast with cheese melted in the microwave. This is the best Italian Beef in the city. Thinly shaved, always fresh, never gristly. And full of deliciousness. I love the "gardinera" here too. I used quotes b/c it's not like regular gardinera... it's not pickled veggies, it's fresh thinly sliced celery & jalapenos & red pepper flakes marinated in olive oil. It's crunchy and perfect with a beef w/ gravy (or dipped). Also, the fries are great-- thin and always hot, but I always need more salt. And the hot dogs are yummy too. read more

Have been going here for years. One of the best Italian beefs around, would put it up there with the finest beef joints throughout the city and suburbs. The homemade giardiniera is amazing as well, far superior to the standard giardiniera most places in the Chicago area carry that you can buy at a Jewel or Dominick's. I think they use thin slices of fresh jalapeno as one of the pieces in their mix. The fries are always crispy. The burgers aren't bad either. Every time I visit my family in this part of town I make it a point to stop by. Sometimes I even go out of my way to stop by. For the amount of money you spend and the quality and quantity of food you get, it is easily one of the best values throughout the Chicago land area. read more

Pop's is the only Italian beef that comes close to beating Portillo's, although I still think Portillo's is better, here's what I like about Pop's (and where I think it beats Portillo's): 1. Pop's is affordable ... two of as for basically what I alone order at Portillo's. 2. Pop's has HUGE portions ... they give you a giant sack of fries, and their beefs are the size that they're actually advertised. 3. Their cheese is better than Portillo's. All in all, I think think it's pretty great. The only thing that Portillo's really beats Pop's on is the fact that they toast their bun a little, and I think the beef is a little better quality, but other than that, it's delicious. The fries are fresh to order and are delicious. My main concern is that the hamburgers are no longer grilled to order unless you request it. Essentially, they are using the same shortcuts that Burger King and McDonald's use to produce fast food. The quality takes a hit anytime you take a piece of meat grill it and then let it soak it hot liquid. I don't understand the point of even grilling it if you are just going to stick it in hot liquid in a steamer. I remember they use to have burgers from a local butcher called Whittingham and they grilled them fresh everytime. I would go in 3-4 times a weak the burger was so delicious. Everything that my friend blabbers about this place is true. He recommended and suggested that I try this spot, which I did, and the food was really delicious and definitely one of the best. The location is pretty nice. There is accessible parking everywhere near and in the restaurant. It is a small spot with some outdoor seating, which is nice because when I went there it was quite busy, so I was seated outside. The staff were very welcoming when I came in. Each of them is nice and friendly. They have a huge menu with a variety of options. The prices are fair and reasonable too. I just got myself the highly recommended Italian beef, some fries, and a drink, and the cost of all of it is quite nice. The service was also quick, and the food was served hot and fresh. The portion of the food was great, especially the fries, but it was thinner. Italian beef is very simple to describe. It is so delicious. It has a generous portion of flavorful, fresh, and tasty beef that definitely melts in my mouth. I love it so much and I will definitely order it again and again. I'm a big fan of pops. I love their beef but wish they had real hot giadineria. So I usually get the grilled chicken sandwich, which is without a doubt the best grilled chicken sandwich ever. The amount of fries you get is ridiculous. They recently made it so the daily specials are everyday specials, which is very nice. Their burgers are great as well and the italian steak sandwich is yummy. I have yet to get something from Pop's that wasn't extremely delicious. Great local business to support! read more

I get the beef with hot giardinara and red sauce. Sometimes the super beef if i want leftovers haha. Thier giardinara is so tasty, its not like the stuff you can get at the store. They make thier own and its so fresh and crunchy. The jalepeno's and celery are sliced to perfection. Also they have really good fries and the italian chicken sandwich is not bad either if you don't have a taste for beef. The service is always friendly and the place always has people in it.
