I don't know if I'm just biased because I have been going to Port of Subs since I was a child, but I feel like this location has been severely misrepresented by these reviews! My sandwich was everything I know and love from other Port of Subs locations and the man that constructed my sandwich did it carefully and attentively. He was friendly and made sure everything was to order. The sandwiches themselves were fresh and loaded up. Port of subs bread and meat are unbeatable. Inside was about what you would expect, but everything was clean and well stocked. I look forward to visiting Port of Subs whenever I make it home, there is nothing like it in Florida! read more

The workers behind the counter seemed very annoyed to be working. Not rude, but definitely not friendly. Inside was very clean. I was trying to read the menu to see what was included on each sandwiches & couldn't really see it (my vision is fine btw it's just in fine print), when I asked the employee they were kind of rude like I should've known or something! I didn't know if it was Subway style where you pick toppings yourself or if it just comes as is, again it was my first time & the gal wasn't having it. The sandwiches were also thin, compared to other sandwich shops.. I feel like I should've spent my money elsewhere for a better sandwich to be honest! I'm always on the hunt for a good sandwich at a reasonable price, and this spot has both! Their #3 is my all time favorite, and they never skimp on meats, cheeses or toppings! It's also combined with a Smoothie King which always hits the spot, especially in this Arizona heat! Super friendly and helpful customer service as well. I didn't get her name, but the lady that served me today 6/13 and yesterday 6/12 was very pleasant, greeted customers with a smile and even let me know I could add a smoothie when ordering for pickup using the 'special instructions' section so I wouldn't have to wait. WORST SANDWICH I'VE EVER HAD! How do you F up a sandwich?! Nasty old tomato, almost NO meat! My wife and I stopped here on Friday afternoon before heading north for a long weekend so it was more out of convenience than anything else because I read some of the reviews while I was waiting for my wife while she was finishing up some shopping. The menu looked pretty good so what the heck. If you want a bread and lettuce sub, this is your place! I ordered the #13, peppered pastrami and turkey with Swiss. All the meat and cheese was cut to order, my sandwich was a medium. She sliced 3 ultra thin slices of each of the meats and cheese. Then I had lettuce, peppers, oil and oregano. Bread was the garlic Parmesan. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. Between the 2 meats and cheese it was less than an 1/8th inch thick of those 3 combined. Most of what I tasted was the oil, oregano and lettuce. Will I be back? Not a chance after spending like $7.50 on lettuce and bread. Disappointed but, I should have heeded the warnings of the other reviews and gone somewhere else. You should do the same. read more

I got a 12 inch sub which cost me $10. The taste wasn't anything special and it was a very unassuming sandwich. Their whole set up reminds me of Jersey Mike's subs. Oddly enough, there's only one cashier and you use it to pay for both this and the Smoothie King place so the line feels a bit confusing. Easily the worst sandwich I've had. I ordered the pastrami sandwich. The meat was a single layer and looked like it was sent from the school cafeteria. The lettuce and tomato's dry. The pickles bland. The bread was the best part, and even then, I asked them to toast it, and when I when I ate it, it was cold. I thought subway was a poor quality sandwich, but this took the cake. And to remind you, this cost the same price as Jerseys Mikes or Jimmy John's. This place is delicious. In my opinion, they have the freshest subs in the area. Their bread is so fresh and unlike any other place. I'm personally not a fan of their smoothies, but that's just me. I order the ham and American with chips and a drink. Their sandwich selections and chip variety are great! The place is clean and has plenty of seating for a quick, relaxed meal. We paid 20 bucks for two combos, which I feel like isn't awful. My only complaint is their board and the calories being inaccurate. Their board says that a sandwich with turkey and provolone is the same amount of calories as a sandwich with turkey, salami and provolone. It takes common knowledge to know that there is no way this is true. Other than that issue, everything was great! I thought I would do one of my comparison tastings. Today, I stopped by and ate here and ordered the 8" number 7; which to you and me is a medium roast beef sandwich. This evening I'll try Jimmy John's on Scottsdale Road. The wait in line was nil since the place was empty when I arrived just before noon. The folks behind the counter seemed friendly enough and took my order. The wait time from ordering to paying was about two minutes. The sandwich bread was generic soft white sub, nothing special. The roast beef was shaved and reminded me that when I get old and lose my teeth, then this is the place to come. The sub ran $5.79, plus $1.59 for a small drink, with tax the total was $8.07. I would say my original impression that: "Port of Sub is really good, not great, but really good" was generous. I believe the sub was bland and they didn't have anything interesting, except for banana peppers and shaved lettuce and tomato to put on it. So, I'm revising my rating to two stars instead of three. I used to go to this place all the time but it seemed to be run by drug smoking hippies. You would order, they would lose focus, you would re-order, and it repeated. If they got the order correct you would be amazed. I ventured back and no more drug smoking hippies. Service was friendly, sandwich was as ordered, and I only had to ask for it once. Totally shocked. I'm hoping the real staff wasn't just vacationing in Colorado and I just got lucky. I'm actually going to go back and have another sandwich there so we'll see. read more

If you are needing to get somewhere such as work and have a time frame I highly suggest against going here. They never have enough people staffed and you end up waiting about 20 mins so a smoothie or a sub depending on what you are getting. The older lady who works there is super sweet and helpful and she's the only one I ever see working there. They are super understaffed, when management is there they are rude and nickel and dime you. They don't participate in most the promotions that actual smoothie king locations do. Sale days, anything like that don't expect to get! Ok so after submitting this while waiting for my smoothie cause I finally got service. This place is filthy behind the counters where they actually make the food. The containers all the powers and smoothie products are in are caked in old residue. They obviously don't clean the containers out before they add new product because it's absolutely caked on the sides where it had got wet and concreted together. My original favourite sub places were Jersey Mikes and Firehouse subs. I found this place by accident and the first few times it was great. Now other then the wait due to their bi smoothie crowd (which I am okay with) my biggest complaint is how stingy they are with the subs. I always order the 12" and at $9.00 for a sub I expect a little bit of beefiness to the sub size. I get 3 pieces of cheese and 3 pieces of meat, 4 tomatoes and a pinch of lettuce - even the other ingredients I request are so sparse I'm actually still hungry after eating this sub. Not sure if it's the constant turn over in staff / lack of training or the owners telling them to be stingy with toppings but after giving it 3 more tries and it getting worse and worse they have lost my business and I am back to either Jersey Mikes or Firehouse subs. Very disappointed in the service of Port of Subs at Desert Ridge Market Place. The past two times I have been in there the staff behind the counter have not been very friendly. As a family we love Port of Subs, but will not be bringing our business back to this location. My daughter went to use the restroom and the toilet must have over flowed as she slipped in the water. When I told the worker I was asked what would you like me to do about it. Today, was one of the first days I ran out to help support businesses during this pandemic. The kids chose Port of Subs/Smoothie King. Again staff was so rude and unfriendly. Big disappointment and I hope for the sake of the business they reevaluate or train properly. We were craving a good sub sandwich...we had previously come to this location years ago and remembered it was decent. Unfortunately today it was lame. It was like getting a slice or two of meat, no cheese? My chicken pepperoni w pepper jack was literally just bread with 3 slices of the meat altogether and no cheese?? All i tasted was bread and mustard in every bite. They did put lots of shredded lettuce to hide the lack of meat. For us, subway would have been a better choice...or even a sub out of a gas station! This is a very average sandwich shop shoved into the same location as a Smoothie King to more than likely save money on rental space. The location isn't disgusting like some of the previous reviews say but rather the set up and lighting made it seem unkept and untidy. I didn't get the feeling that roaches were running around but at the same time the dimly lit corners of the store front make it seem worse than it is. A bright shiny paint job and lighting improvement would go a long ways. The food was basically the equivalent of a Subway with the bread not being nearly as good. The service was pleasant and efficient. Firehouse Subs just down the road would be a better option. read more

I love Port of Subs and continually brave the slow service at this place because the subs are so damn good. The bread and other ingredients always taste fresh - they actually slice the cheese to order rather than picking up a pre-cut slice packed in wax paper. And I love that they have avocados (mushed up like guacamole) as a topping at no extra charge. I do have to take off one star for the service because let's face it, it kinda takes forever. The guy doing the bread, meat, and cheese is always ahead of the game, taking orders from way back in the line. But the dude putting on the toppings gets totally utterly backed up - we're talking 4-6 bread/meat/cheeses sitting there waiting. I'm thinking they need two people on the topping line, or maybe just one person who can listen to what you want the first time you tell him and remember it long enough to make the sandwich and send you on your way. Yuck! Why did I do this to myself? I was running a few errands on Christmas eve afternoon and I decided to grab a sandwich for lunch. I could tell these poor bastards running the place didn't want to be there but I wasn't making it hard on them, I just wanted a vegetarian sub. The bread was old and smushed (resembling a slice of plain white bread) the toppings were unimaginative and sparce and the cheese was overly processed into something resembling Velveta. At first I wasn't a huge fan of this Port of Subs - or any for that matter. But as happens occasionally convenience trumped all else and I ended up eating a sandwich from here about once every couple of weeks. It took a few trips worth of trying different sandwiches before I found the one to my liking, none were bad per se; but now that I have a favorite I haven't changed it in almost a year. In my book fresh sliced meet always beats out the pre-sliced stuff at Subway. Add to that fresh assortment of vegetables like you can find anywhere else and you've got a passable sandwich. The location is often busy at the expected times and the restaurant itself is nothing special, but if you are looking for a good sandwich without having to leave north Scottsdale in search of a Blimpies or Mr. Goodscents this place will do. I went into Port of subs after they came into our local business and handed out these National sandwich day coupons that were Medium classic sandwich only $3.00. I went to pick up a few sandwiches for my coworkers I was only given a 1.70 off and was charged 5.09 per sandwich the owner that had just gave us the coupons would not honor it and didn't even want to give me the recite. Also I was going to get a sandwich as well but I was so grossed out by the manger picking at his face and nose while checking people out and wrapping up sandwiches with his barehands and no gloves. None of the employs had hair nets or gloves on it was very gross and made me loss my appetite. They seemed very unhygienic by touching there hair and face and then touching the food. I love Port of Subs but this location seems like their ingredients are not as fresh. The bread maybe is a little old but I am not for sure. It stinks because this is my favorite sub sandwich place and when I go to the I-17 & Thunderbird or 19ave & Deer Valley location the sandwich is always great. I always get the peppered pastrami on wheat with the mayo-mustard mixture (its addictive as crack). So when I go out of my way to stop here when I am in the area it is a let down and yesterday was no exception. I hope they improve things here so I can feed my addiction when I need to. read more

They will slice the meat and cheese for your sub right when you order. It was good. Reminded me of subway. I was hoping they would have some type of special sauce or sandwich. Where they really turn heads is their catering. The price is better then subway and you don't have to give them a big notice a head of time like subway.
