Porta was better than what I expected. Came here on a friend's recommendation. I did find the menu to be a little limited but you could find at least one dish you could order. I ordered the shrimp Scampi pizza and split the Italian sausage appetizer with another guest at my table. The cocktails were just ok but the pizza was delicious. I would order it again. The Italian sausage appetizer arrived to the table when I was almost done with my pizza lol. To be fair the waitress did say it would take a while.. I just didn't anticipate that it would take almost an hour. Nonetheless it did arrive and was super underwhelming. The sausage looked like it was boiled and then covered in tomato sauce. Definitely wouldn't order it again. Overall stick with the pizza and salads if visiting this spot. I would give Porta a 3.5.

It's good pizza and they can do vegan pizza. Good drinks and a casual atmosphere, prices are reasonable for the area. I would recommend because the vegan options and accommodations are very good.

The food really did what it was suppose to do!our server told us about her favorites. We had the risotto, chicken cutlet, 14 pizza, and ended with the budino and tiramisu. Risotto and chicken cutlet combo was out of this world. The 14 pizza had fresh mozzarella that really made the whole pizza come together. The budino was a little runnier than I expected but a treat. I wish the whip cream had more flavor. It needed the caramel drizzle in it! The tiramisu was so good and tasted just like a tiramisu should. The perfect spot. The lighting was just like a backyard summer day but indoors. Perfect date night spot. Very classic and chic decor. I definitely going to come back for these specific dishes and I want to try other pastas, meatballs, and cheesecake.

Porta was AMAZING! The decor is super on theme with doors on the walls - really cool! Lots of big tables if you're bringing a group. Our server was Peter and he was attentive, outgoing, and generally awesome. My husband and I shared a margherita pizza and flourless chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla gelato, and I had a Peach Door cocktail. They make everything from scratch in house and you can taste the freshness. I'm pretty we devoured that pizza in record time. It was so good!! I absolutely recommend Porta and look forward to visiting again.

First time I visited this location the service was so slow but I chalked it up to the restaurant being new and working out the kinks. Came back last night at 5 for a quick dinner before a 7pm show. Boy were we mistaken! We placed our drink order as soon as we sat down. The server was great and said there would be a bit of a wait. 10 mins later they finally arrived so we made sure to put some food in. The food came shortly after but no plates or utensils. We had to finally ask for utensils. Then we ordered a bottle of wine, more drinks and pizza. 20 mins later and no wine. Not sure how long it takes to uncork wine. The staff were all very nice and kept checking in and saying how busy it was. Is this what happens every Saturday? 2 hours to get two rounds of drinks, pizza and pasta. They comped our wine because of the wait which was very generous. Unfortunately $30 for a bowl of gnocchi for "2" and a wait like that will keep me out of here.

Your door to deliciousness! With a charming rustic vibe of old doors, long wood tables and benches and a 2nd floor indoor and outdoor space, this casual spot impresses with great cocktails and excellent pizza. I visited with my hubs and while we were seated right away and given water, it took a while for our server to take our order. In any case, our Autumn Betty Pizza full of wild mushrooms, goat cheese, truffle pecorino, garlic, thyme, walnut oil, and evoo was perfect for the season! Though our Calamari arrived late and at room temp, I could tell how good it could have been. My Amore cocktail of Drumshanbo sausage tree vodka, pomegranate syrup, and lime refreshed and amazed me! I a-door this place! ;) NOTES/TIPS: **Their restaurant is open on the 2nd floor. **Parking deck nearby at the Crescent Deck (Church St, Montclair, NJ 07042).

My most recent visit wasn't that great of an experience. And frankly I think people come here more for the bar and dine experience on Bloomfield Ave that's convenient to catch a show before or after or go shopping etc. I went on a random day of the week for a date night. The had about 2 large parties (not pictured) and it took us about 20-30 mins to get 2 cocktails. It came out after our pizza arrived. I had forgotten that the pizza portions are small. I didn't care for the pizza crust.

I love porta! The waitress Kiki got swamped but she really kept it calm and classy! Is a great vibe for a nice dinner or to go out. I love their mozzarella cheese more than anything !!!!

I had a nice time eating here. We were a large party, and I thought the waitress was very attentive. Pasta dishes do come out much quicker than pizza, so keep that in mind if you are ordering with a large group. The prices are very reasonable and I left feeling content with my portion size. I also enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant, and it was a nice place to have a girls night dinner.

We were walk ins on a Saturday evening and got seated at the bar although it seemed there were plenty of seats available. If you prefer tables then a reservation is advisable. Speaking just about the pizza I enjoyed it. The waitress/bartender was really vocal about how good the 14 1/2 was - she mentioned she was lactose and would even risk it! So we ordered that and a margherita. Honestly how can you go wrong with an original? I think ordering both is a good pair. One is more muted with cheese and sauce and a hint of basil and the other had the hot and spicy salami. I alternated between slices and devoured it all quickly!

Great experience at Porta Montclair! I went to Porta Montclair with my friend and her daughter, and we had a really nice time. We started with the Arancini, which was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside--so good. The Broccoli Rabe with pistachios, raisins, capers, and olives was another standout--such a unique combo of flavors, and it worked really well. We also tried the house-made mozzarella with Italian bread. The mozzarella was super soft and creamy, and the bread was good too, though I would've liked it a little softer. My friend's daughter ordered the Shrimp Risotto, and she loved it--rich and flavorful. We also shared the Betty Pie Pizza, which was super fresh and had brussels sprouts on it, and it was delish! For drinks, I had an espresso martini, which was fantastic, and my friend tried a mocktail made with blackberry and basil, which was super refreshing and yummy. We finished off with Tiramisu for dessert, and it was the perfect ending to the meal--so creamy and delicious. Overall, great food, awesome drinks, lovely hospitality and great atmosphere. Definitely a place we'd come back to!

Always love dinner at porta! We sat outside to enjoy the nice weather, and our server was very friendly. The broccoli rabe salad was delicious, salty and crunchy. The veg is a great summer pie, not too heavy, and the cashew ricotta and sun dried tomato pesto are delicious. Always looking forward to the new vegan options at porta!

We're still slowly working our way through local spots, and Brick + Dough was highly recommended to us. We started with garlic knots, bread, and fries, and honestly... 10/10 across the board. Everything was SO good. The fries especially are still living rent free in my head. We then split three pizzas, all of which were seriously incredible. The perfect balance of cheese, sauce, and crust, just absolutely nailed. We ended the night with cookies and ice cream, and I can confidently say this place will be seeing me again very, very soon. The service was nice, especially because even though we were the only table sitting outside, they were consistently coming out to make sure we were doing OK and had everything we needed. We ordered some garlic knots, which were good, it just seemed a little bit pricey to charge for the marinara sauce separately, which was not really outstanding nor something special, so I would recommend you skip it. We also ordered the chicken vodka Parm pie which was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the pizza was still delicious the next day when we had the leftovers. One of her friends is allergic to gluten, so it was very nice that they were able to accommodate for her. I do wanna point out that we have been to many places that offer gluten-free options and this is the first one I've been to that does charge you extra to make a gluten-free. In terms of price, it is very similar to the other places in Montclair but they do provide very good service and the ambience both outside and inside is very nice.

Guy seemed overwhelmed and reluctantly took my order. I showed up 30 min later and no one had any record of my order. I recognized the guy's voice and told him he took my order. He was pissed and got into a shouting match with me with 3 other customers around. He eventually apologized and offered a free side of meatballs and spaghetti (don't order that btw, super underwhelming). 2nd time: Wife placed an order for a pie with half pepperoni on their website. Came back with the order and the pie had full toppings. Small nit but annoying. 3rd time: I called at 6pm on a Thursday. No one picked up. Opted to place order on their website and got the same item as last time. Showed up at and the same miserable guy asked for my name and order... and then said he didn't have any order. I told him I placed an order on the website... and he said "You should have called." with an awful (only a mother can love) grin. I showed him my email confirming 6:20pm pickup time and he said he had no order... before pulling a pie with my name on it. I asked if it had half pepperoni and it didn't. Full toppings AGAIN. Clearly, their website is not equipped to actually take half toppings orders. Pizza is OK but not worth the headache or poor service here.

We spotted Blue Steel which had good, modern curb appeal to our hungry tummies. It looks like downtown Bloomfield is having a moment with some new condos and nicer restaurants coming in. Thanks, gentrification!? Inside has a clubby, bar vibe and we were seated at a hightop near the bar. I love a good wedge salad. I prefer the classic but I appreciate BSP's variation that has tomato, cucumbers, crispy frizzled onions, feta cheese, homemade ranch dressing, and everything sprinkle seasoning. It was generously sized and refreshing. And there's nothing but good things to say about the Detroit-style ezzo pepperoni pie, except that i wish I had a bigger stomach to eat MORE. After the salad (shared), I was only able to manage one slice, but it was a happy slice. My first time trying Detroit-style and it didn't disappoint. PS: There's a tiny, very lumpy and bumpy parking lot in the back that is very tricky to maneuver back out of. As the third-largest producer of tomatoes in the entire country, this key pizza-making ingredient not only sets New Jersey's classic 'tomato pies' apart from any ordinary pizza. This 10,000-square-foot, two-story establishment with a neon-lit sign on Glenwood Ave in Bloomfield asks, "Just another pizzeria?" They also house a 20-seat speakeasy that's open Thursday through Saturday called the Rab.bit Hole that can be found upstairs behind a hidden entrance. Opened in 2020, Blue Steel Pizza Company is the answer and should become obvious after looking at the menu. A reservation was easily made via Resy. My partner and I were greeted at the host station and got a regular table in the 1st-floor dining room by the pizza oven in the middle. The vibe was modern and industrial. Patrons had to use their phone flashlights to read the menu as the lighting was pretty dim. They are known for their Detroit-style pizza--a pie baked in a rectangular, traditionally blue-steel pan, the kind once used by autoworkers. It's made with a blend of mozzarella cheese and traditional Wisconsin brick cheese that melts down the side of the pie, making for a burnt, gooey, cheesy crust. It's cold-fermented for three days and is closer to sourdough. It has real flavor and an airier texture. It's like a lighter version of a Sicilian with a buttery crust. As a starter, we decided on the Chopped Salad. For our main entrée, we opted for the Jersey Tomato Pizza Pie. Portions run big enough for sharing, and we downed them with the 1911 Cider. The pizza crust was light, airy, and crispy with the right amount of fresh ingredients, making the ensemble tastefully delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating, and our server was Adam. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful experience and would recommend this place.

I know it sort of changed management to a lovely guy whose name I don't remember who when he first took over came out with samples of delicious specialty pizza and warmly greeted everyone. I placed an order for delivery two days ago. The pizza was good as usual but the lentil soup was really salty, no exaggeration enough to overpower any taste of lentils - I added two cups of water and threw in some ditalini, added garlic, and it was still salty. I'm not sure why that would happen but here's a full proof way to make good lentil soup: per pound of dry lentils, first sautee a chopped medium onion, chopped large stalk of celery and a large or two medium size carrots, two cloves of chopped garlic in some olive oil, then add the lentils, and around 3-4 inches of water above the line of lentils and allow to simmer, don't add salt until it's closer to the lentils being cooked. People with high blood pressure or pregnant cannot handle the amount of salt that was added. It was worse than canned soup. I have ordered it before, last time was around 4 years ago and it was fine. Of course, it may just be an error or a new person making the soup. I have thought that since the change in management, maybe a seasoned Italian woman cook in the kitchen might be a good addition to at least train the staff. I get the impression that the staff are more pizza makers than cooks. I ordered an artichoke not long ago that tasted good but was not fully cooked, my friend ordered lasagne that was covered in mozzarella and was probably over microwaved or however it is heated, and was like paste. This isn't intended to be rude but to point out that for the most part I like your food but feel like certain things can use more care.
