I lived in Chicago for six years, so I was thrilled when they finally opened a location near me. It brought back a lot of memories of one of my favorite Chicago comfort foods. My husband and I always order the Italian beef with mozzarella, loaded with both hot and sweet peppers, along with a side of cheese sauce. I usually get the Maxwell Street Polish sausage, and we always order extra cheese sauce for dipping our fries. The onion rings are also a great option when we're in the mood for something extra. For dessert, I never pass up the eclair cake--it's one of my favorites. The service is consistently fast and friendly, and the restaurant itself is huge with plenty of seating, making it easy to find a table even during busy times. New spots are popping up in this area weekly! The hubby was very excited to try this place. Overall, if you are nearby and looking for fast casual place to grab some decent grub, this is your place. It's good, but the hubby and I agreed, the food was not as flavorful as we were expecting. Full disclosure - the issue may be that I don't eat fast food and he rarely eats fast food. This chain is a fancier version of most fast food places. We got the large Italian roast beef combo (comes with large fries and a drink), a fish sandwich (Much better version than a fast food place), fries, and chocolate cake (I'm a dessert expert!) The roast beef was very tender, but not well seasoned. We got it with 1/2 hot & 1/2 sweet peppers. This sandwich does need the peppers to add some flavor. The au jus was OK, but again, not flavorful - just something to "wet" the sammie. The fish sandwich was large, fresh, and had a decent flavor. Our fries were the star of the show. They know how to make good crinkle cut fries. The chocolate cake was a disappointment. I didn't mind the cake part being made with oil, but good frosting is always made with butter and this cake did not have butter cream frosting. The hubby said if he was ever in the area, he'd grab a sammie from here. I would just go to one of the many other nearby spots. Again, the food wasn't bad, just decent. Everyone's "taste" and expectations are different. This was my first visit due to the encouragement of Chicago friends. Portillos, you missed me, thumbs down on the 3 or 4 fries I got as well as the bread, Italian sausage dog. Why so bready. We've never even heard of Portillo's until our library Reading Program offered my kiddos coupons for reading books over the summer. Today I was able to drive them over here to "cash out" their reading coupons. The employee told me they would only let ONE of my kids use their coupon. And when I pointed out to them I have two kids (both were with me!) that have been reading and earned these coupons, she still insisted that only one of my kids could use their coupon. Very disappointing first time experience. Please don't act like you're being generous and giving children incentives for reading more books if you're not even going to let them EACH receive their incentive that they earn. The cake was good though, for the one child that got to enjoy it. My other child was upset and didn't understand why she could not use her cake coupon as well. read more

Having lived in Chicagoland (Naperville) I have been to Portillos numerous times and never had a bad meal. As usual, this location in Fort Worth didn't disappoint. Got the Italian Beef combo minus sports peppers and she got 2 dogs all the way without sports peppers. My only concern was how they weren't busy. Most Portillos have a good crowd in drive thru or inside. This location was maybe the slowest I've been in. Maybe a fluke. The food was definitely up to standards, so come on folks, bring your group and give these guys some business! read more

Quick, delicious, and inexpensive! Glad to have a Portillo's nearby. As an east coast native, this was my first experience and I can honestly say I get the hype. The hotdog was good, the bun was delicious, and the fries were a great top off. We were both able to get dogs and fries for under $20 total, so super reasonable! Service is also quick, which makes it great for a quick bite. The decor inside is also really neat and the restaurant is immaculately clean. It's also conveniently located to all the Alliance shopping areas, so very easy to grab a bite and run some errands. We'll definitely be back! read more

They consistently have really good food, the staff is courteous and friendly, and the place is very clean. Each time the food has been excellent, even a garden salad has very fresh vegetables and is a great deal. My family and I have been to Portillo's a couple of times through the drive through and always had a very good experience. The hot dogs are very tasty (although I personally think the normal size are a bit small, so I always go for the jumbo) but nevertheless they have a good snap to them and you can dress them any way you want. I do the jumbo chicago dog w/o onion or tomato. I am not a crinkle cut fry guy, but let me tell you - pro tip - ask for the crinkle cut fries well done. Really takes the fries to the next level. I was really excited to try this place, but it ended up being really mid. I had a Rodeo burger, fries and peppermint shake. My husband had a cheeseburger double meat, fries and drink. The burgers were not bad, but they were rather bland. You could taste a very slight char but not enough to add any flavor. The fries were good. We got them hot, they were crispy. The shake was again pretty mid and not as good as I expected. The biggest disappointment was the cake. It looked really good but in reality was dry and thebicing was too sweet. The decor was cute, Im not sure what their theme is but it was consistent and cutsie so it worked. Service is basically non-existent. You order on a machine when u walk in and they call a number. Meh! My wife and I went to Portillo's today after going to some estates sales. We arrived shortly after one p.m. It was a little busy, but not slammed, just what you should expect for the retail shopping area. We decided to split our orders so we could both try different menu items. We ordered at the kiosk easily enough. We ordered the Italian beef sandwich combo with onion rings as well as a cheeseburger combo with fries. Once we placed our order, got our pick up number and went to pick up our drink cups at the window we found a table close to the pick up window. The drink selection is pretty standard with the Coca-Cola fountain and the tea selection made from a tea concentrate not actually brewed tea. We waited at the table for about twelve minutes for them to call the number over the intercom. Due to some technical issue, the intercom sounded like Charlie Browns teacher was calling out the orders. Fortunately they not had a video monitor with the numbers over the pick up window otherwise many orders would have been waiting in the window due to poor sound quality. The food was hot but not great. The "charbroiled"burger had bits of char from the grill on the edge of the patty that were a little gritty and well, charred but not in a good way. My wife took one bite of the Italian beef and didn't want any more because she said that the meat tasted like it hade been freezer burned. I didn't get the freezer burned taste but it there was something off setting about the flavor of the meat. Overall it was "Meh" glad to have tried it , so we know not to do it again. read more

This is the second location that i've eatin at in the past few weeks and i still like this brand. There was a few differences between them but still great over all. At this location the dog was missing the snap but was still a firm dog. The peppers here were hotter than the other location so i guess that's a fair trade off. Of course the pickles were the same, nice and crunchy. I had the fries this time and i am hooked. Love crinkle cut fries, specially when they're spiced(salted) just right. A nice, unique, fast food type place. A very interesting assortment of food to try. As someone who has never been to Portillo's or even heard of it, it was very different experience. Typical fast food service, you order at the counter and they call you name when its ready. The place reminded me of a sit down restaurant but everything about it screams fast food. My parents are Midwestern transplants and they happened to see the building on their drive into my house. I don't think I've ever seen my dad so happy to go eat. I got the beef and cheddar croissant. Very thin, moist roast beef with a nice thin layer of cheddar on a flaky croissant. Who's going to complain about that? Not me that's for sure. The shake machine wasn't working when we came in, so I guess I'll have to come back to try one. I knew this was an expensive hotdog place but I didn't know how cheaply made the hot dogs and the chili was. The "chili" wasn't even chili, tasted like bbq beans mixed with hamburger meat. And the Italian steak sandwich was bland and dry. Paid for peppers and it was just a whole bell pepper quarters and they put 1 quarter on it. The service was good at least. A quick update after my last visit. The Italian beef didn't impress me, so I tried the Chicago style hot dogs. It's certainly different from any hot dog I've had before. My first bite, I tasted nothing but that huge slice of pickle. I took the pickle off of both dogs and tried again. I loved them! The taste was great! I will definitely get the dogs again. And I'm going to give the Italian beef another try, but order different than last time. The fries, same as last time, need to be a little bit crispier. I don't especially like limp fries. Several years ago, I watched my favorite comedian talk about this chocolate cake shake at Portillo's while he was in town doing a show in Chicago. The story was funny of course and left me wanting to try this shake the next time I visit Chicago. Btw, can anyone guess the comedian? Anyway, although I was excited when the first TX location opened up in Frisco, I resisted. Whenever I would pass by on my way to Dallas, I would peep over and see the crazy long line. So when one opened up near my house, there was no more resisting. They've been open for a few months now, but I waited for the crowd to die down and then a short phase of a vegan diet. Anyway, I pulled up to the drive thru and surprisingly there was no line to order. I did some research before and decided to try the beef sandwich that I've heard good things about from friends. It did not disappoint. I got it the standard way with sweet peppers. The Maxwell Street Polish sausage looked delicious. It certainly tasted delicious with a snappy sausage and topped with tangy mustard and tons of sweet grilled onions. I finally tried a Chicago style hot dog! It was just ok, not for me lol. Too much going on. Now, for the shake. It was everything I hoped for and more. This is the only way I want a chocolate shake from now on...with bits of chocolate cake in it! A small size was still plenty and my mind went to a place where calories did not exist. The drive thru staff was really nice and efficient. There was a little line at the window but it moved fairly quickly. I had such a great experience that I came to dine in during lunch. Plenty of tables inside and there's even a patio outside. The arrival of Portillos has been highly anticipated. When the location first opened up in The Colony, the line was over 2+ hours long. Once this location opened up, I've never seen the line get ridiculously long (good for us customers!). My husband and I decided to pop over and give this location a try after a shopping trip at Costco across the street. The inside was busy, but the line wasn't too long luckily! The workers and kitchen staff were busting a move though! The interior is nicely decorated and the tables were cleaned promptly from what I observed. My husband ordered a chili cheese dog and I ordered the Italian beef sandwich. The chili cheese dog was good as was the beef sandwich. The bottom of the sandwich does get a little soggy from the sauce, so if that's not your thing, I would suggest ordering it dry with sauce on the side if that's an option. I never been to the chain before but it was really good. I got the beef sandwich and I accidentally got it dipped because I misread it - I thought it comes with the dip separately - so it was very soggy (that was my bad). I still liked it though and the fries were good. My friend recommended the chocolate cake and it did not disappoint. I thought they ran out of it because they didn't have it at the grab and go but we asked the cashier and they had some in the back. Finally stopped in, such a neat place. Really spacious, old fashioned feel. Kinda has that Coney Island feelin', to my eye. I since learned online it's based outta Chicago, and apparently came from that Dog House hut place in the nostalgic photos we've all seen before. Service was fun, Jackie's sweet, and she gave us paper hats! Legit! The doo-wop music is perfect, so refreshing to have somewhere to go and not hear tired country like everyone can't get enough. The food itself was really good. I've always been a flame broiled fan, an old Burger King kid. But they've been going so downhill and it's great to have another option to get that taste. The broiled chicken was very good. My only "tiny dislike" is there was a lot of sauce on both. It tasted fine, it just made it messy to handle. No biggie, I'll just ask next time and see if I can ask to go lighter on it. Anyway, it's all made fresh. The crinkle fries are nothing particularly unique but they were perfectly cooked and straight forward. Good stuff. I gotta repeat how nice the spaciousness is to be in. I like the wide warehousey feel, not cramped, filled with unnecessary walls, etc. They have a little shop to get neat extras, and apparently their chocolate cakes are something, maybe we'll grab one next time, and we will be back for sure. I know this place has a cult following, especially from those people from up in Chicago area. I heard great things but I also heard bad things. Hubby and I stop by to try something different. It was late. Nothing else was open, I made the suggestion and prefaced it with: I've never been here before so don't blame me if it's bad. I got the signature beef sandwich with onion rings and my husband got the chili dog with fries. Was very disappointed in the size of the food items that came out considering how much we had paid for everything. For those two items, the total charge was $32. $32 for fast food is absolutely ridiculous. That alone already made the whole experience kind of sour. Yes, I know we could have left and not ordered anything, and I do know how to do math. But it still sent a little bit of sticker shock my way. Food was just okay. Not awesome. Not bad. Every time I hear of Portillo's, I automatically think gourmet hot dog. I never knew they had other things on their menu, such as burgers, salads, chicken tenders, shakes, etc. I thought my Portillo's beef hot dog would wow me, but the Italian beef took me by surprise. The beef was tender and not chewy - delicious. If you get the big Italian beef, it is large enough to split between two people. The strawberry shake was creamy, flavorful, and not too sweet. Oh, get that cheese sauce for your fries! The sauce was so addicting. I got a little bit of a heartburn from eating too much of it lol. The drive thru is super long right now, wrapping around the parking lot. There are two lanes, but it merges into one lane as you get to the side of the building. Unfortunately the hype did not live up to our experience. I waited months for the crowds to die down and last weekend we finally stopped by on a Friday night. The inside is really cool and that's about where the great factor ended for us. We spent $40 for two sandwiches and a shared order of cheese fries and a piece of chocolate cake. The restaurant was barely half full but I was a little surprised it still took 20 minutes for our order. It's really a fast food restaurant so that seems a bit long for 1/2 full dining room and 5 cars in the drive thru. The disappointment was great when we got our order. So much talk about their cheese fries. Well it's just a fast food carton of mediocre fries and a small container of cheese to dip the fries in. Nothing special about that at all. Then my sandwich. I chose to not get it dipped but had the gravy on the side. My bun was already so soggy and falling apart before I even took a bite. That's a dry sandwich too. The meat was so bland I really was shocked. Nothing special no seasoning g and that's with even dipping it in the gravy. The chocolate cake was the highlight of the night. Gotta know why... Why in the world does anyone add poppyseeds to anything? What is the redeeming quality of such a seed...much less, 400 of them on my unsuspecting hot dog bun? They're not tasty, they're not nutritious, they add zero value but significantly a) increase your chances of getting one lodged under your gum which will cause swelling and b) increase your chances of failing a drug test. My advice is don't put them on the hot dog buns...unnecessary and only brings negative value. Back to the review. Meh on the service, meh on the interior, and GOOD on the chili cheese dog itself, but I hate poppyseeds and I think that is the protocol here it seems, so it will be hard to go back. read more
