Last time I had the iced gingersnap cookie latte and cowboy breakfast sandwich. The latte was delicious and the cup wasn't overloaded with ice as a lot of coffee shops tend to do with iced drinks. The sandwich was nice and hot and made a satisfying breakfast. If you have the Toast app I highly recommend ordering through that. Portland Roasters Coffee at the Portland airport delivered a solid pre-flight caffeine fix. I grabbed a dark roast drip. It was fine: smooth, rich, and exactly what you'd want when you're heading to the gate. The service was prompt and friendly, and I appreciated not having to wait behind what I call the "custom coffee concoction construction constraint." That's the long line of people building elaborate drink orders while black coffee drinkers stand idle. Any coffee shop that implements a "black coffee only" line will make a fortune from those of us who value our time, so Portland Roasters earned back a star for speed alone. That said, the cup-and-lid setup was a problem. It was either mismatched sizes or a bad fit, which meant hot coffee burned my hand as I walked. For a place serving to-go coffee to travelers, that's a real oversight. The vibe was pure American airport. Everyone focused on getting their drink and getting out, but the overall impression was positive. Fix the cups and lids, and this could be a strong 5 star stop. As it stands, it's good enough for a quick hit before your flight, and I'd take it over the overpriced global chain coffee nearby any day. read more

I like to stop at Portland Coffee Roasters in PDX when I land and am a huge fan of the mocha at Portland Coffee Roasters. This was my first time visiting this location inside PDX and first time seeing it with the new remodel. I love the wood design. There was no line and the employees were friendly. We ordered hot mochas, the marionberry muffin, and the chocolate donut. The chocolate donut tasted good although it was extra fried in my opinion, which is not something I prefer, but total personal preference. The marionberry muffin was served warm and made the muffin delicious. The tart marionberry flavor was excellent. The hot mochas are my favorite so they were perfect. The chocolate and espresso flavors are nicely balanced so that the chocolate isn't overly sweet. Portland Coffee Roasters is a great coffee spot to visit in PDX! read more

Honestly, this place wasn't all that great when it came to their matcha. It wasn't as strong as I would have liked, and it wasn't very sweet (even though I told the barista to add sweetener). It was very creamy though, which made it rich. The shop is in the middle of the airport, so the ambiance was nice. Definitely a cute little shop, and the staff were very friendly. He was pleasantly greeting everyone in the line, by name, as though each one of us were his first customer. He repeated back our orders, made sure we knew where to pick it up, and asked if wanted anything else. Wow! If it was his first day, do whatever you can to keep this young man. This was good coffee for the airport, for rushing out to catch a morning flight, for the little extra you pay in the airport. Primarily what got my attention though was the very very very friendly baristas who took my order and money and created my drink. Usually at 5:15 am people are at best comatose when serving you, doing well not to frown. These folks were excited to serve or at least did an excellent job of making me feel that way. "People can get a [coffee drink name] anywhere okay? They come to [Portland Roasting] for the atmosphere and the attitude okay?" No minimum flair here: it was all happy coffee serving the whole time. I walked by Portland Roasting Coffee while in between flights and looking to see the general flavor of Portland and it's airport. The smell of the fresh roasted coffee drew me closer in. The small shop is appealing decor wise. I didn't really want coffee so instead I decided on their iced black tea. You can, of course order different flavors and they will ice it for you. However if they specifically advertise one type, in this case black, for their iced tea it must be good enough to try. I'm glad I did. The tea was quite delicious and bold with some softer notes. Exactly what I was looking for. While waiting for my drink to be prepared (it was done lightning fast by the way) I perused the items in the cooler. The Vegan Brownie caught my eye, and I got one. I like to vote with my dollars and support plant based items when I can. On that note they also had some field roast faux meat prepared sandwiches (caution as some contain egg if you are indeed vegan) as well. I was quite tempted to get some of these but I typically travel with food and this was no exception. So the brownie and tea were plenty. I ate the brownie later, and it was ok, nothing spectacular. My experience was that the brownie was a bit dry, and difficult to eat in it's packaging. Perhaps that's how I stored it, I'm not really sure. I'd try another, and more of the plant based offerings they have here if and when I am back. read more

I ordered a large latte this morning before my flight. The person behind the counter says the "coffee" is mine. I ask, "latte"? They say, "coffee". I say, "I ordered a latte". They say, "we rang up a coffee". At that point my only option was to take the coffee or get a refund and buy a latte. Not wanted to wait in line, I opted for the refund. I get coffee and latte may sound similar. However, the best and most efficient course of action would have been to make the latte I ordered. Instead, they spent more time trying to process a refund than it would have taken to make the latte. The only reason for the extra star is that she offered me the coffee after processing the refund. Towards the end of the C terminal, this coffee shop stands in the middle of the gateway as an oasis. I took a peek behind the counter and found that they have Dark chocolate, White Chocolate, and Caramel offered not as a syrup (I detest those artificial flavors). They had limited options on the menu but they had an oatmeal cookie latte that sounded interesting (of course it uses a syrup). I went with a plain latte with raw sugar and Pacific brand oat milk. They barista told me that St James is the roast that they use for their espresso. They use 4 shots for a large iced latte (20oz) which was refreshing to find. My coffee was well made, not too sweet and the coffee wasn't lost in the oat milk. With ample seating near the place and solid flavor, I would definitely come here again. The problem is that I kept getting cut in line by people who used the mobile app. I didn't want to download and use the mobile app and because of that got cut by about 5 people who came up behind me in line and then placed mobile ordersand got there's way before me. What's the point of the line? I couldn't stop thinking about my elderly dad who doesn't have a smart phone, and how he would've been cut in line just as much.
