Don't go in the offseason: We originally were very excited to dine at the Portside Tavern after hearing so many good reviews. However, we arrived to a near empty restaurant, and were for some reason seated in a far away corner with chipping paint and what looked like ongoing renovations- it's the winter and off season so I get it, but you don't need to seat 1 of 4 parties at that table. Food was hit or miss. We didn't get any bread for our table- which I was looking forward to after seeing the pictures on Yelp. Maybe that's summer only? We ordered a large wedge salad and small pumpkin bisque to start. We were sure they swapped them because the wedge salad was soo small (a real miss) and the bisque was HUGE. I would never order the wedge again, but the bisque was interesting. It had a super thick texture almost like HUMMUS. It was decent, and if what we got was the small, i can't imagine the large. I had a 10inch pizza and added caramelized onions . I thought it was pretty decent, and a steal at $9.50 My parents split the half pound burger and mezze plate. They liked the burger (fries were delicious) but the mezze plate left a LOT to be desired. If you go, i'd stick to the basics. read more

Hands down unbelievably delicious food and top class service. We enjoyed every second of our dinner. Started off with light and airy complimentary bread, with sweet butter. We later asked what was in the mind blowing butter and learned it was a touch of maple syrup and mustard seeds. Do not miss out on this! Next was the sausage and caramelized onion pizza. Wow! Update- this is my go to local restaurant again and again. Owned by the Murphy family and they are always on the premises. Amazing attention to the food quality and the menu is always ambitious. This place works as a great bar, a great pub and a great restaurant. The new outdoor spaces are a terrific addition. On any given evening it's hard to decide among lots of delicious choices. We really enjoyed our time here. We ended up getting three entrées, we could not resist. We got the buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese, it was delicious. I got take out here with my family this past Saturday and was extremely impressed with everything we got. I got a burger which was a gamble because they don't travel well but it was still warm by the time we got home and cooked perfectly. It had a great char grilled taste. My husband got the Rueben and also enjoyed it a lot. There aren't many great restaurants in the cape so if you don't check out this place you are really missing out! Came to Hyannis to meet in the middle with friends in town. We had dinner resos elsewhere but were early so we literally pulled over to grab drinks here before meeting up with friends. Wasn't so sure about it as the outdoor "patio" faces the street but I needed an espresso martini and they had it on their menu. We watched and SALIVATED at everyone else's food orders. The pizza that has sauce and cheese to the edge of the crust... cheesy hot fettuccini... lobster rolls... damn. We missed out. We may have to come back just to eat here. The best lobster Mac and cheese I've ever had in my life! This is such a cute little spot. On a trip to the cape for a few days and trying local eateries and this was my favorite thus far. Mixed feelings about this one. The entree portions were great considering the price, but, overall this place is sort of pricey. I recommend getting the "lunch" portion since its pretty huge & the dinner portion would be too much. Our server, Yosef, was very friendly & attentive. Unfortunately we picked a night to eat there when a very loud, large party was in the same room as us, so that made our experience a little less enjoyable, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. They do have outdoor seating - by the road & on the rooftop - which would be nice to check out! Worth a try, but a little overpriced. read more

(This is a review of mine from a different travel site, but I thought that I'd include it here as I use this site more often. This is from a visit in September of 2022) My wife and I stumbled on this place about 5 years ago and have been making a stop back here every time we visit the Cape. We sort of consider this "our place" and have been known to eat here more than once per visit to Cape Cod. The atmosphere is enjoyable, service is excellent and we have never been disappointed with the food. This most recent trip saw a brand new menu, with popular hold-overs and new offerings. We have spent time at the bar, outside and seated at various tables throughout the restaurant and each time we enjoy ourselves and our food. The local beer selection is great, as is the wine list. I really like this place. I have been here at least 7-8 times now & every time it's been really good. Staff & Mgmt are always very welcoming, friendly, helpful & efficient. The Kitchen is lightning fast & offers classic & creative menu items that are always fresh & delicious. The decor & ambiance has a traditional but updated tavern look with a friendly, familiar, easygoing vibe. You can come her after the beach, golfing, boating etc. You can bring a small crowd or just a few friends, the family & or just Mom, Dad & kids. It is casual but not overly. Not a tourist trap with overpriced sub par food that takes hours to arrive. It's got more of a friendly neighborhood feel. There is a nice sized square bar & two separate dining areas. It also has a small rooftop outdoor deck for the warmer months. I really enjoy coming here. It has the perfect combination of great food & service, in a casual friendly ambiance! The outside of Portside Tavern looks like a house and it's entrance is on the side. It's cute and the interior feels rustic/vintage. We came on memorial day weekend and there were a lot of families and reserved seats so we we're lucky to sit at the high top. We ordered the lobster roll, two bowls of clam chowder, calamari, potato skins, scallops, short ribs, 10 oz burger, and the apricot mule. There were water stains on my knife and the side of my plate was crusty so the restaurant started at 4 stars for me. The lobster roll tasted lightly like lemon and nothing else so that was a disappointing $26. Potato skins were a bit heavy because they had pork belly in them and cheese, but that was to be expected. They were good though. The calamari itself was good, but the sauce was just teriyaki sauce. Nothing special. What was really a downer was the clam chowder that wasn't hot enough and tasted like canned clam chowder. It lacked any clam flavor. The short ribs were a tad salty for my taste but they were soft and fell off the bone. The mash that came with it was too smooth for me but that's just personal preference. Scallops were cooked perfectly. The sweet potatoes and shallots that came with it was good as well. The burger came with a bamboo skewer, but there were bamboo shavings on top which was a little hazardous because if we hadn't noticed it then we might have ate it. Overall it was a good burger. My family member left her bag at the restaurant and left. The waitress gave it to one of my other family members who had just come out of the bathroom, so thank goodness for her! read more

Then he tried to tell us we could sit in two tables next to each other. When we walked upstairs it was 2 booths facing opposites of each other. We asked to sit at bar without fuss, and the manager rolls his eyes, slaps the menus together, huffed and puffed and was so rude. This place, especially during the off season, feels like a home away from home. I live several hundred miles away and still feel like I could spend hours here chatting with the locals and the bartender. I ordered the Oktoberfest with the buffalo chicken pizza and basically people-watched and worked for a couple of hours. The pizza crust is AWEsome and the toppings were also perfectly balanced. One small note to the establishment: cut the slaw smaller so it doesn't make a huge facial mess when attempting to eat a slice. I don't like cute in a suit with slaw face. The service is super laid back but they always notice when you need a refill. I will probably be back tomorrow before I have to leave the Cape! read more

This restaurant is OVERPRICED. Got a mac and cheese for 30 DOLLARS. The man had a AWFUL Attitude . Also if you pay in cash dont expect your cash back. This man did not handle money correctly. Some of us got money back and some of us didn't even when we had the same amount of money on our bill. ALSO the server was so lazy, some wanted to pay with card and the server was too lazy to walk back and scan the card so we had to do HIS JOB by using the app to pay. We had heard good things about this pub but had never been there. We decided to give it a try a few nights ago; and, we are happy we did. The place held up to the great reviews. We had a couple of different half salads that were plenty big enough for one person. One Caesar and one Greek. Both were extremely fresh and delicious. My wife got a fennel sausage pizza and loved it...I got a burger...10 oz...cooked perfectly...juicy and delicious. Our server was Jason, who is an owner...we had a great conversation with him...it's very apparent that the restaurant is his passion, as he's "all in". Loved this tavern. Bar food meets new flavors!! There were large TVs for sporting events, high top tables, bar spots, and booths! I got the fever pitch wrap (buffalo sauce mixed with honey mustard) I asked for no tomatoes it was very good! It needed a i little more sauce I like my chicken drenched !! Fries were MY FAVE so good. Next time I want to try poutine. I also started my food with watermelon carpaccio soup (cold soup) loved it. Very refreshing !! My friend got the fried cod sandwich very good as well!! Visited restaurant for dinner. Excellent wine list with lots of reasonably priced items - we had bottle of Ken Wright Pinot Noir for $50 - same wine in the store will be about $30, so great prices. There is also full bar at he restaurant. All the food was delicious. Clam Chowder was very tasty, perfect flavor. Confit chicken wings and Poutine are a must to try - delicious. Perfectly made Mac'n Cheese. As an entree, we had a number of dishes - Cuban sandwich was very generous and tasty, nicely pressed. Excellent Burger, with crispy fries, wild mushroom and chicken risotto was flavorful. Very tasty Chicken BBQ Pizza - again, everything was very tasty. Walked in this place for a beer. Had to be somewhere in exactly 1 hour. Bar had plenty of seats. I sit down and the bartender, who looks like he's about 21 years old, is standing talking to 2 customers having a full fledge eye to eye conversation about some vacation place. I get up, grab a keno slip and sit back down. I'm 2 seats down from the people he's talking to. He just keeps on talking. I fill out my keno slip and I'm still waiting. I could see other people at the bar that were trying to get his attention as well. Finally, without interrupting and yelling "excuse me" I try to get his attention by leaning over until he sees me. He stops mid sentence and turns and looks at me like I just woke him from a sound sleep. He was irritated. I said "excuse me....can I get a beer please?" As he's leaning 2 hands against the bar, he turns and looks at me with a nasty look on his face and says nice & loudly "yeah, when I get to ya." I got up and walked out. The balls on this clown and he stared me down as I walked around the bar to leave. First thing I thought of was anger issues. Or little man syndrome. I worked at many restaurants when I was younger. From bartending to the kitchen. If I ever talked to a customer like this all of the owners I worked for would have fired me instantly. Any good bartender knows when to get into a deep conversation with customers and when not to. And if they do, they are always aware of other customers. But the big excuse from mangers today is "oh I'm sorry, we can't find good help, and if we do, we can't keep good help." It's too bad because the place looked nice and the manager was very good and professional. He was the first one that greeted me at the door. When I left I told him about my experience. I ordered the scallops with risotto. Scallops were very over cooked. Basically little rocks. Risotto was gummy but had hard pieces. Both didn't have any flavor.
