I also watched an employee behind the bar wipe her nose with her hand and then continue slicing citrus barehanded. The chicken empanadas were good but not particularly special. We also had one of the small pizzas, which was the best thing of the night, crispy and flavorful (with a little char at the edges, which we like). The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. The chowder itself was excellent--thick, flavorful, and delicious. For our entrées, we selected Clam Strips and Calamari, both as side-dish portions. The food was very good, as were the drinks. Overall, we enjoyed the food, drinks, and beautiful harbor-side patio setting. She continued to take down the names of the multiple groups of people in line. I decided that I would go to the back of the line to be respectful. As we were just about to near the front I hear her say "table ___ is a no show we are giving away to table ___" the people she gave the table to were people who were bothering her about the long wait time while my boyfriend and I patiently waited. She went to then give me ANOTHER buzzer as she gave our table away although we were there on time and then ignored. I gave the new buzzer back to her and told her that we previously were there with our buzzer and told her and she told us to wait a minute but ignored us. My boyfriend chimed in to say that he saw her give the table away to the next people on the list that were bothering her while we patiently waited. The hostess didn't say sorry and let us leave after we were very respectful. As someone in the industry it breaks my heart. I have been in her position and have done everything I could to make it right and to allow my guests to have the best experience possible. All she did was stare at us as we expressed concern. I was deeply hurt after this interaction and left wondering what I did wrong. All I tried to do was be a loyal customer and be respectful and I was patient and was punished for being patient and respectful. All I want is some recognition and apology.

My devoted "mug club" friends that used to meet weekly at Cape Cod Beer introduced me to this fantastic new spot in their rotation. Wow, am I impressed! I met the brewmaster / owner, Brian, friendly and he sure knows his stuff. The quality he is producing in this tiny location is exceptional. I started with the Norm Ale, like normal ...get it? I love the play on names they come up with like Buttah Beer. The Norm Ale is pale but not lacking color, it's so caramel creamy, biscuit smooth. Just delicious, no bitter bite to this beauty. And I really appreciate the lack of fizziness too, that's so unlike American beer. I followed that with the Riley Red. Think Killarney Irish red ale and that's what this delivers. An excellent example of a red with colored hues, it's tasting brighter, light malty, and rich. And because it's October I rounded off by tasting the Oaktober Fest. (Oak Bay October fest) my buddy Wayne loves this one, especially in his fancy German stein they so nicely agreed to fill for him. This seasonal ale is tasty modestly spiced medium malt season, not too hoppy, it's beautiful. The Brit/ Irish style that Brian is producing, less carbonated & fizzy, which I really liked about the ales. You don't go home with a bloated stomach. Lucky for us it is Oktoberfest and they were cooking up beer-soaked bratwurst with sauerkraut and German pretzel hot baked out of the toaster oven $11. A perfect accompaniment to the ales. I genuinely feel these are the best beers being made on Cape Cod, and beyond. Get over to Oak Bay Brewery and try for yourself what I'm convinced of!
