We have gone to the Portside several times, always found the food acceptable... not as good as many of our favorite Hyannis restaurants like Tap City, Columbos, Tugboats, etc, but they usually don't have a wait and if you're in the mood for basic bar food, it fits the bill. Where the problem came in is recently we were headed there and called to ask if there was a wait... the girl said they had two tables available in the bar. I told her we were literally 10 minutes away and asked if she could hold one for us. She said that she could not as they don't take reservations... well, we show up 10 minutes later up asking if the tables were still available and was told that they were not. I look around to see a table in the bar clean and empty so I ask if that one is available; she tells me that the owner (Bob, who is on the phone) is talking to someone who is coming for that table. He hangs up and asks me if he can help me, so I ask him if we can have the empty table.... he says "no, someone is coming in for it". Hmmmm, so I say to Bob, "but you don't take reservations... I called ten minutes ago". He says "they're family", to which I respond, "but you don't take reservations, it's your policy... that just seems wrong". His response? "I'm the owner, I can do whatever I want". Seriously? I was actually smiling until he said that, thinking that he would do the right thing and give us the table. My smile quickly disappeared and told him we'll go somewhere else and won't come back. He said "that's fine". In all of the restaurants or businesses I have been in, I have never heard someone use the excuse for breaking their own rules as "I'm the owner, I can do whatever I want." Bottom line, I am a Cape Codder for 40 years and we go out every weekend to have a nice meal. I will never set foot in a place owned by a jerk like this and if I can cause him to lose anybody else's business as well than this review was worth writing. Maybe he will think twice before treating a customer like this next time. Way to go Bob. read more

After a good hike up the Pilgrim Monument we found a great restaurant back in Hyannis. Don't let the place fool you it might look like a pub but it is definitely fit for families. Nowadays traveling with our baby we always are looking out for places that are suitable for families. This place was spacious and wide, it was easy to navigate with the baby carriage. As always my wife guides us to where we should eat and this place definitely did not disappoint. The menu feature to standard fare burgers steaks, and entrees. I ordered the steak tips and my wife got the Lobster scampi. The steak tips was incredibly tasty! The dish featured two skewers of four pieces of steak tips piled on top of a fragrant and savory mashed potatoes. I don't quite remember what the dressing was on it but come by and get the steak tips it was heavenly! Overall if we're ever back in the neighborhood I come back to visit! We came with a big group and had a good experience. We were able to sit upstairs which allowed us a little more freedom with the kids and our waitress was wonderful at handling such a large number. The ambiance is a bit rustic but they had plenty of tvs to show the games which worked for our group. The food was also very good and reasonably priced. We got the mezze plate, a salad and the smashed sliders. All were excellent. Overall, would highly recommend and we would return. read more

We've been ordering takeout here all during this pandemic and it has become our bright spot during these lonely weeks. It's great to hear a friendly voice when you call in to place your order and it's been fun checking Facebook to see what the specials are every evening. The food is wonderful and extra comforting - perfect for a time like this. Also, portions are huge so we've been ordering extra to have a few extra days worth of yumminess. We always go for the egg rolls because they change often and are always good. The fried chicken sandwich is delicious and we're big suckers for the onion rings too. We visited this establishment because of its positive reviews and it did not disappoint! Everyone was very attentive from the hostess, server, kitchen and owner! The burger is one of the best in recent memory and the fries were well done as we ordered. Great bar. Great food. Very friendly staff. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner. We had burgers, steak tips, fish, soup, salad, (so most of the things on the menu). Everything was fresh the 3x we went. Very accommodating. They have plenty of space and distancing for those concerned. Lots of TVs for games and such and a whole upstairs and outside patio. Very disappointed cause my family was excited to try this place but my experience was horrible my wife didn't like the bolognese so my waitress brought it back and the manager Came out very aggressive demanding to know why She didn't like it and she told him there was no taste and sauce tasted watery. He said to her there is never a problem with it and he tasted the food him self and said It tasted fine ! The people around us were shocked and couldn't even believe how rude he was . Her mother said something to the man about the way she was treated and he was saying "whatever " to her and telling her to get out and leave and " it's always you people" . I don't understand what he was trying get at with that comment just because my mother in law is of different ethnicity. He should be ashamed of him self !!! Mac and Cheese was the best I have ever had! I ordered a small with Buffalo Chicken on top! It was amazing! A great comfort food, on a cold Cape Cod Visit! I want the recipe! Went here for a work lunch. Service was great! I'm limited in my diet and decided to splurge a little and bend my rules. Ordered the shrimp risotto and the beet salad. The risotto came out first, it was so good, a bit spicy but I like spice so I inhaled it. When the salad came out it was also delicious and I ate over half of it. The entrée was tasty enough but nothing about it stood out, and it certainly not worth the $32! The saffron was nice, but the linguini was over done. The shortcake ($8) boosted the stars for this review. With lemon curd, roasted peaches and almond brittle, it was lovely. I only saw the bar area when I picked up my order. Really cute restaurant with a wonderful outside area, and a fireplace to top it off! Comes in handy for those chilly end of summer nights. Food was overall really good. My friend had a Greek salad with grilled chicken, which was plentiful and yummy. The piccata swordfish over lemon fetuchini was perfectly cooked. The lobster bisque was the only downfall. It had more of a gravy consistency than a nice soup. Service was great. Would recommend, just stay away from the lobster bisque. read more

Some work colleagues and I stopped by here late one night before hitting the road back to NYC. It was jumping and packed with people, yet they were able to serve us quickly, as we requested. I had a very good burger cooked to order (with blue cheese, thank you very much!) on a nice brioche bun. An arugula [one of the best things this planet has to offer] and heirloom tomato salad was an extra $1 on the side, and worth it. My friends had sirloin tips and really enjoyed, and a piece of salmon which my friend said was quite good. We sat upstairs, and there were too many big TVs at every angle blasting sports for my liking, but I suppose I'm in the minority... He did a great job....although we did encourage him to have a better handle on their wine selection. He didn't have the answers to our questions. Had the BLT, DELICIOUS! Love this place. It's off Main Street, so there is a parking lot and you don't have to parallel park. Really nice atmosphere, fun busy bar with big TVs and friendly bartenders. Everything I've tried food-wise is delicious. Lobster bisque is creamy and rich with a hint of sherry. So good! Bolognese is made with homemade pasta and a 3 meat blend...it's awesome comfort food. The Cuban sandwich is delicious and served with a high pile of crispy fries. Overall this is a great place that serves up huge portions of delicious food in a casual/cozy setting. Fries are plentiful but over cooked and the asparagus spears (4) were Over cooked and barely recognizable. My partner's hamburger was supposed to be medium rare and ended up well done. The owner stopped by to ask us about our meals and do his credit refunded 50% of a well-done hamburger. The large TVs over the bar broadcast March madness which was enjoyable. Overall I'd give the place three stars and a thumbs up for the bar scene. Not sure if the food is worth the trouble because it seems to be pricey relative to the portions. read more

Went here based on the good reviews but was severely disappointed. The first bad sign was when we sat down and saw a dirty glass on our table. Food was below mediocre and service was poor. We had a hard time deciding on what to order. We wanted some nice fresh seafood, but it seemed like everything on the menu was either fried or coated with cheese! We decided to order the tuna tacos appetizer. There was way too much mayo on them! The mayo and the rice completely overshadowed the tuna. We also ordered the seafood risotto. It wasn't even the right type of rice for risotto, just regular white rice with too much cheese in it. There were a few pieces of seafood buried in the cheesy rice. No good. The servers seemed dispassionate, like they didn't want to be there. We had planned to order more dishes, but after the first two decided to get out of there. read more

Good beer selection but we thought the food was just OK. Random clams mixed in with the fried calamari, no lobster bits in the bisque, and thick coagulated cheese on the potato skins. Upside was that the potato skins themselves were good and the pork belly had a decent texture. Darn you, Portside! I wanted to hate you - to give you a terrible review!! Came in with a grumpy attitude (not your fault) for a table for two on a Tuesday around 7:00. Seemed like some chaos - learned later that they had sent home some staff because it seemed slow. Regardless - got sat about a half hour later in Dan's section. And here's what happened next: had excellent service and even more excellent food! My bad mood disappeared - my tummy filled up! I was torn between what glass of wine to have - Dan asked what I liked and actually downsold me on an excellent glass of Malbec. I love not being upsold at every turn. And as a result - I enjoyed two glasses of wine that night! (That probably helped improve my mood too.) I ordered the fried chicken sandwich - it was delicious! The chicken was perfect and the bun was so yummy! I just ate the second half for breakfast this morning and it was just as good. My husband had the lobster bisque with a Cuban sandwich- he loved them both! Oh, and did I mention that as a side for the chicken sandwich you can actually order a half side of any salad on their menu?!! How cool is that! I ordered a half wedge salad - also excellent! Gave this place a shot because of the high Yelp reviews. We pulled up and I had to double check Yelp to make sure I didn't mistake for another establishment. From the moment you walk in you feel like you are stepping back in time (not a good time.) Dark, not very clean, booth vinyl seats cracked and worn. Tables were sticky and our waitress (nice & polite) gave us the feeling this was not going to be a good experience. It took 10 minutes to get service and after waiting 20 minutes for food, we asked the server for the status and was told it would be right up. 10 minutes later and we still had no food. At that point, a belligerent person who we assumed was the owner walked by and gave us attitude because we asked about our food. Late lunch; driving by remembered 4* rating so the three of us thought we'd try it. Absolutely fantastic! First up, watermelon gazpacho w/dark chocolate drizzle. Very good; refreshing but a little too sweet before lunch! Next, the BLTA (Avocado) on focaccia. Focaccia was delicious. Made the sandwich really shine! Last, we both had the Heirloom tomato salad w/fresh mozzarella in a fresh Parmesan bowl; w/focaccia all drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Topped with 5 large grilled shrimp. Wow! So much flavor it was just incredible. The tomatoes (Red & yellow grape) we're sweet and delicious; the mozzarella was fresh and soft; each element blended together perfectly. It's located on a side road a block from Main Street in Hyannis, and the appearance from the outside - that of a big house or apartment building - made us wonder if we had arrived at the right address. Once inside, it was a bit dark - more tavern than restaurant - but the menu selections were what attracted us to begin with, and on that note we weren't disappointed. My wife and I both had a "Be Hoppy" IPA from Wormtown Brewery. It was one of several worthy offerings from craft breweries. For an entree, I had the Duck Duo - a pan-seared breast paired with a confit leg, served with wild rice and cranberry chutney. While I think there was twice as much chutney as necessary, the duck was cooked perfectly. My wife chose the Fried Chicken, which were deep-fried in a tasty batter and served with comfort food like cornbread and mustard greens. We frankly don't know why this place wasn't more crowded. Perhaps it was the time of year (December), the less-than-obvious street appearance, or the fact that it's a sports-bar / sit-down tavern hybrid. But we were happy with our meals and will likely come back. read more
