Let me tell you something... This will be a staple for my family over the next 50 years! We came up the Cape for the weekend and a friend recommended we go to Portside after visiting in the summer. What a knock out of a place! Walked in to a huge Projection Screen with the game on. I'd say they have 15 TV's lined up as well. The meal was fantastic... French Onion Soup was a 10! Our friend had the Burger with Bacon, Sauteed Onions and Tomato Jam, he raved about it. Said it was a top burger he's had. I went another route... The Scallop and Pork Belly Pie... It was f*cking delicious. Who ever though to put Scallops, Pork belly, sauteed onions and Maple glaze on a pizza is a genius. Should be on the menu year round! read more

Second visit here and the food was just as yummy as I'd remembered it. We ordered the Mezze plate again, except it was completely vegetarian on the menu this time. Our entrees consisted of a turkey sandwich and chicken soup. The sandwich was delicious- crisp bread, fresh sliced, roasted turkey, melted cheese and thinly sliced green apples. As for the soup- the flavor was spot on, but it could have been served a little hotter. Upon this second visit I did realize that the decor in the dining area lives a little to be desired. There are televisions lining the entire perimeter of the room, and other than that the decorations are pretty generic. The bar area looks like a nice place to relax though. The service was fast and our food was great- so glad to see that this place was able to make it through the quiet Cape Cod winter. If you're looking for excellent South Shore-bar pizza on the Cape, look no further- the pie here is excellent (check out the sausage option), and the caring owners are proud of their bar pizza training and history, as well they should be. Cute place too (cool spiral staircase, friendly waitstaff), with an excellent beer list. PS- their potato skins have giant chunks of pork belly on top. Yum. read more

I was staying in Hyannis for work for a few days and a friend of mine lives there and said he'd take me to one of his fave places. So we went here. I'm glad we did. It's a very homey place. Warm and inviting. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. He made recommendations and was very welcoming. They have a decent craft beer menu and the food menu is large. You can have nachos or chicken dinner or a burger or Pizza. There is something for everyone here. I had a burger and it was huge. I couldn't finish it. It came with a generous side of fries also. This place is a great option for dinner. You can be a family with small children , a couple Looking for a romantic night out, or just hanging out having some beers. New place in Hyannis. Came here for lunch. It was relatively empty but we got a nice corner booth. Everything feels really new and there are TVs everywhere. The food was delicious! The knuckle sandwich is basically a lobster sandwich but they added some lemon aioli and prosciutto which really brings some nice flavor to the sandwich. The fish sandwich was also very fresh although it could have used a bit more flavor. I also got the small size of the shrimp linguini which was the perfect amount. All the salads were fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch. Get the knuckle sandwich if you come here! read more

We had a great lunch here today! I had the Cuban sandwich which was truly delicious, from the pork and ham to the crunchy pickle and toasty bread, and the iceberg salad was crisp and refreshing. Hubby's vegetable sandwich looked spectacular, with roasted veg and a slice of feta. House-cut fries rounded out the meal, and the kids enjoyed a great pizza. We tasted one daughter's homemade Mac and cheese and brought the rest home for serve with dinner. When we are on vacation we don't typically plan to hit a restaurant twice, but I wouldn't be sad if we wound up here again! read more

Best chowder I've had. Very tender and not chewy at all with bacon in it. Mmmm good. Plus I had a great watermelon IPA called 21st Amendment recomended by our waitress Caitlyn. Very good service. For being the highest rated restaurant on Yelp in Hyanis, we expected far more. The place is so run down that upon arrival we weren't even sure if it was open. The inside doesn't fare much better. Everything is very dated. We were one of three four couples in the restaurant the whole time we were there for lunch on a Wednesday. Granted, it is off-season for Cape Cod. However, what the place lacked for in ambiance it made up for with its clam chowder and french fries. Both were yummy! My sandwich - the chicken salad didn't have anything to it in terms of flavor. It was advertised to have apple and cranberries but it was just chicken and nuts. As a result, I only ate half and did not box it. Tried this place last night. Was very surprised at the menu options they literally all sounded delicious. My boyfriend and I split the small wedge salad and it was plenty big enough for it ! The sangria (pomegranate) I got was very good. He ordered the crispy fried chicken thighs for his entree and requested some cranberry sauce on the side. What a great choice !!! So perfect and with the sweet maple gravy MmmMmm... I got the short rib which was unbelievable. It had every texture component and the house made fettuccine was beyond good. A very rich decadent choice but did not disappoint!! I would strongly suggest this restaurant to anyone. Came here during my visit to Cape Cod. Upon entering it's a well lit restaurant and staffs were friendly. Ordered: Passion fruit margarita : one word; love. Calamari : it's different compared to the ones I had before. what made it different is it is fried with cornmeal, and it made it more crunchy. It's layered on top of marinara with spicy sausage. Delicious. Chicken wings with bbq: nothing special about it. It is what it is kind of thing. Fennel sausage pizza: it was a 10" pizza topped with ricotta cheese. We stopped through Hyannis on our way out to Wellfleet for lunch. I immediately jumped on Yelp to find a spot to eat and decided on the Portside Tavern. My husband ordered the Clam Chowder and the Iceberg wedge salad while I had the Fried Chicken. It was amazing! One of the best meals I have ever had. My husband thought his Chowder was better than that of the famous Ivars in our home state of Washington. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone in Hyannis. The coolest part of the restaurant was that all of the food was sourced locally from Cape farmers and it was obviously much detail the chef went into to master each plate. Came over Columbus Day Weekend and ended up here since they were the only place without a wait time. Sat outside and had decent service- the nighttime chill and lack of privacy wall or barricade between the patio and the main road was a bit unnerving. Host/floor manager was wearing his mask half onto his chin, and the inside felt a bit too crowded for COVID times when I walked through to use the restroom. Imagine walking down west Dennis beach and skimming the water for chunks of seaweed. This was the consistency of our disgusting, soggy salad. And it was piled on top of old, brown guacamole. Upon sending it back, the manager was not apologetic but instead responded by telling us that this was his favorite thing on the menu... Apparently he loves sludge. The wings were cold and the food took 45 minutes (!!) to come. No exaggeration. I will truly, and I promise this time, truly never return. read more

Yum!!! Not wanting to deal with the crazy busy tourist traps on Main Street at 8pm on a Saturday night, we decided to check Yelp for another option. Portside had lots of great reviews and seemed to be just what we were looking for. All I can say is.... the reviews were NOT wrong!! Sit at the bar. Order a burger. Went here for the first time based on the high Yelp rating and it lives up to the hype. It was the best burger I have ever had. Even the roll was excellent. This spot is great for everyone. While we were there they had both a little kids birthday party and a bachelorette party. If you don't make a reservation, sitting at the bar is your best bet. There are a few parking spots at the restaurant, but you can also park in the lot across the street. They are wheelchair accessible. Can't wait to eat here again. I will definitely be back in the fall to watch a football game and have some apps. read more

Really happy with the Portside. Everybody's dinner was good to excellent. 1) salmon (excellent) and clam chowder (fantastic) - 2) salad (really good) and tomato soup (the highlight of the dinner!) - 3) Burger (solid) - 4) kids' chicken tenders (excellent) - 5) kids' pasta (excellent). Also, a great selection of alcohol, from craft beers to lots of wine selections. There really wasn't anything to complain about during dinner. Staff was great and attentive. Menu is very family friendly. Lots of choices. From seafood to steak to pizza to burgers to Mac and cheese to kids menu. Great place. Only one negative, which is why I'm taking away one star: half the kitchen staff is always on the stoop outside smoking and/or taking breaks. Both when I walked in and when I walked out. This surpassed my expectations! We ordered nachos and immediately devoured them (I didn't even have time to take a picture!). For dinner I had the Italian meat pizza (delightful), we had the lobster cakes (not a fan of the toppings but the cake itself was perfection), a half pound burger with bacon cheddar cheese and a tomato purée, and the BLT (the tomatoes were fried! Burger version of lobster roll, quite impressive idea and taste great! Fries are handmade with different taste of ketchup I've ever had before. I wrote a a full review on Google already, but it's that good, so I will give you guys a heads up... Go In and get the chowder, not a cup, the bowl!!! Most importantly, ask questions about the menu,. It seems that some of the issues that I read in the comments could have been avoided if, people just asked... The seafood pot pie sounded amazing, but it only has the pie crust on top not the bottom too, so I got the lobster Mac and cheese, which is the best I've ever had... In short the food, service and atmosphere was perfect. Problems: The online menu was different than what was on the menu, the waitress said it hadn't been updated in weeks. No short ribs, no fried chicken... We'd have to order what was on the menu. (We of course knew that, but were disappointed nonetheless) The child's plate came with about 3-4 tablespoons of tiny pasta shells in it for $7. The waitress, who clearly didn't care, offered to let us purchase another plate of 3-4 tablespoons of tiny pasta shells for another $7. We declined. Our (adult) food was really good. Oysters, pizza, lobster... A man (who didn't introduce himself) asked how we we were doing, and I told him about the small portion. He said he noticed that, and he took it off our bill and offered a free dessert for my daughter. HE was terrific and knows customer service. He saved the night. When we arrived we were informed that they don't have a package with all the games. 15 TVs and they won't pay for cable? We ordered drinks and I was impressed by the amount of beers they had on tap. My husband ordered a specialty cocktail he had never heard of...and found out why. It was the Dew Up and instead of tasting like alcoholic Mountain Dew...it was straight Midori! I was intrigued by the dish Risotto Paella. Was it risotto or was it paella? I ordered and received a bowl of risotto that had scallops, whole mussels in the shell, and tail-on shrimp. The risotto was tasty- creamy, cheesy, and had roasted red pepper and scallions in it. But I burned my fingers trying to de-shell my seafood! I would have preferred my scallops seared on the flat top rather than braised or boiled with the risotto rice. Overall, we just won't be returning. They didn't seem to expect us to. It being a tourist town, I wonder if that is how they have stayed in business for 5+ years? read more

The atmosphere of this place is perfect for any night out. They have a great bar to watch games on TV or if you are feeling a more intimate settings they have side tables closer to the windows. For sides me and my husband shared their wedge salad and jalapeño corn chowder which had a great roasted flavor. The portions were perfect not too large but not too small. I had the olive oil poached cod and it was incredible. The fish tasted so fresh and flaky over a bead of butter risotto that melted in my mouth. I'm from northern Massachusetts and I would drive great lengths to have this dish. We will be back! read more

I went here for a late dinner and was pleased with my meal. I ordered a pizza with Italian cold cuts and a cesar salad. I have to admit I did not expect much my meal, but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The pizza bread had a good crust to it. It was a tad greasy, but the flavors from the meat, cheese, and bell pepper melded so well together. The cesar salad had pieces of toasted naan in it. Every single piece tasted like sweet candy. We just had lunch at the Port side Tavern in Hyannis our waitress was Cailin. We got the Buffalo Chicken Nachos As an appetizer, I got the Chicken Milanese for my entree, my husband got the Pork Carnitas. First of all, Caitlin was a phenomenal server. She dealt with our questions and was attentive, and her customer service skills were excellent. The nachos were AMAZING. The meals were of a quality we would have expected for a $50 a plate price point, but were half that and served in a casual atmosphere. The produce was PERFECTLY prepared, fresh and tasted like it was picked right out of the garden. We got a chance to speak to Jason and then to his father, the owners of the restaurant to let them know of our surprise at the impeccable quality of their food and service. This restaurant is slightly off the beaten path in Hyannis, but if you're looking for AMAZING food, this place can't be beat. And because I am an infection control nurse, I can also report that they are doing everything right. Bathrooms are PRISTINE, they are cleaning tables and surfaces with the appropriate chemicals and mask wearing is mandatory for everyone from the servers to the owners. I went here tonight expecting a good meal based on the yelp reviews, boy was i wrong. The quality of food is well below average. The lobster roll smelled fishy, tasted sandy and strange. The watermelon salad had raw water melon, and was drenched in sauce. The wings were decent, but super small. Upon asking the server to redo the salad, he gave us an attitude. He brought another salad that was the initial salad redone, definitely a sign of poor quality. The server was not friendly, and his service was on par with the poor quality of the food. Ordered the bolognese for myself and it had absolutely no taste and the sauce was watery. The waitress had zero problem removing it from the bill and was very sympathetic. Not even 5 mins later the "manager" came out and harassed me about how the dish was fine and proceeded to tell my Mother it's not the food it's "us people". I had ordered another meal in its place but ended up canceling because I didn't want to be there any longer.
