4 of us went to celebrate a 60th Birthday.....1st visit. They just opened in the last month so a few bumps in the road but otherwise GREAT! Bread was brought to the table. It wasn't the freshest. came with a butter that had Maple Syrup and mustard seeds in it. we didn't care for it but it was worth a try! The appetizers we had were the Lobster Cakes, Don't miss them! The potatoe skins were done perfectly and had potato in them and were cheesy. The chicken wings (citrus Parmesan) were sl overdone but crispy and delicious. Shrimp cocktail (3) were big and delicious. The GREATEST thing on the menu is each entree is either small or regular portion and priced accordingly. We all opted for the small portion of Shrimp Scampi. Asked for Extra Garlic but our waitress was not the best and it got lost in the translation. Took about 45 minutes for the meal to arrive and there were only 6 other people in the place. I think they just forgot our order. Homemade Fettucini with the 2 big Shrimp. It was really good pasta, just was heavy for Scampi. We all had desserts which were excellent all the way around. The waitress was the challenge. The food was really good. We WILL go back! We loved the clam chowder and that's saying something because I grew up in New England. The knuckle sandwich was also great and the shrimp scampi as well. We took the advice from a previous review and had the pb&j tiramisu, but we realized we're more traditional about that. You can't improve on tiramisu, and certainly not with peanut butter. Decided to try this place the last weekend my parents were at our Cape House before they headed back to Florida. We went there for a late lunch. My Mom had Gazpacho and a Pasta Bolognese Dish. My Dad had a Mushroom Bar Pizza and I had a Burger. Service was very attentive. My Dad liked his pizza My Moms pasta dish was very good. The only thing that wasn't that great was the Gazpacho My Mom felt they tried to "doctor it up too much" My Burger was very tasty cooked the right way and very flavorful. Very cool bar area, and the food was good. Cuban was alright, my wife got a burger with bacon, Carmelites onions, garlic aioli, and tomato jam on it and it was fantastic. Clam chowder was good, with little chunks of clam, not the huge chunks. Fries are good and hand cut, bread was also served with a home made maple syrup mustard seed butter. Service was great !! Steph really did a great job. The food was not to my liking, had the beet salad who was full with a heavy dressing which was too sweet. As a main dish I had the cod fish with cauliflower purée, a great concept which I love but it was full with butter and oil. Drinks came out fast- nice beer offerings- and started with a Mac and cheese for the table which we all thought was flavorful. The pizza was delicious, fresh veg, nice crust. Steak tips were cooked just right served over a pretty pesto. Chicken risotto had a generous portion for the small order and delicious. The veg sandwich with salad was also great- loved the arugula, watermelon, and feta salad. Our waiter, Tom, was excellent and very attentive. Best kept secret in Hyannis! We will be back! read more

Came here for the first time after Finding it on Yelp. Food, service, environment were all excellent. We had the scallops, lamb chop, sausage pizza, fried cod sandwich, and fried chicken; And we pretty much liked every dish and ate everything. This place has probably one of the best pizza in town. The Decor was nice and the staff was excellent. The owner was very friendly and came by to talk to each table. The food was excellent. I saw the good reviews and went here for lunch at 1pm on a summer Saturday. I have never experienced worse service. Sat at the bar and ordered 2 beers and 2 sandwiches. There were maybe 10 total cusomers in the restaurant and 15 staff. After waiting 45 minutes for the sandwiches I asked to pay for the beers and leave. The bartender assured me the sandwiches were almost ready and they clearly were not. He proceeded to wait in the kitchen for them to make the sandwiches from 0 and did not come out to apologize. I left cash for the beers and left while the bartender continued hiding in the kitchen instead of apologizing for the horrible servide. I would never come back here and do not recommend. read more

So outstanding we went twice in one week! I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and plentiful with a delicious broth. DH had the seafood special which was local Seabass with tomatoes and peaches - exceptional! Upon return on the second night I had the knuckle sandwich, which did not disappoint. The place is kid friendly, but still has a great bar. Both red and white sangria are great. Overall two great experiences and we will not make another trip to the Cape that doesn't involve a stop at Portside. read more

What a great find in Cape Cod! We came in early tonight before heading to a Cape Cod League Baseball game in Hyannis and Portside Tavern did not disappoint! My husband and I shared the wedge salad and Fennel Sausage Pizza along with a great Rose. After we ordered, the owner sat and talked with us and then sent over a half dozen oysters to accompany our already amazing meal! Was really excited to try the food here, until I overheard the manager or owner chastise the hostess in the front bar area. I can understand that my husband is a big guy and maybe she didn't seat us at a table you would have chosen, but you should be explaining that to her discreetly, where few customers can hear you. I, of course, overheard the entire conversation on my way to the bathroom, and you clearly noticed as you disappeared immediately after. If you had been discreet, you would not have been embarrassed. Yes please! This place is amazing, my wife and I went twice in a weekend trip to Hyannis and I'll go back to the town just for Portside Tavern. Some of these reviews are to long, so simply put from minute you walk through Portsides door you just know it's gonna be the right place. From the staff, the dad, his son, Eric the bartender to the menu, the food, the beer selection, the drinks there was not a part of either experience we had that wasn't perfection. This is one of those places u wish u could put 5 minutes from your house and go to everyday. One of the best experiences I have ever had at any establishment and there have been a lot. Also I read a couple reviews about not going off season, I disagree the place was busy and fun even on a Friday and again Saturday (told ya) in February. Anytime u are close enough make the trip I know I will. Well done Portside I'll be back for many years to come and you will be there because you are just that good. read more

I don't know where to start, honestly. I'm not sure I can express the appreciation and satisfaction my family and I experienced here. From the gate, the hostess was pleasant and ensured she would get us settled. She explained that there was an abundance of people coming in and that it would be a few before we could be seated. To me, communication is key and we were happy to be informed tbat we would need to wait a few however she saw to it that we were seated sooner than we thought. She mentioned our waiter would be Dan and that he was busy at the moment but would get to us as soon as he can. Again the time we thought we would have to wait was shortened. Dan..... shout out to you for your professionalism, your eagerness to make sure we were settled and comfortable and catering to us as if we were of some importance. Communication communication communication. He informed us that habeas in the weeds sort of speak without having to say it. (if you ever waited tables, you'd know the term). He made sure our wait wasn't long however and recommended great beer and helped me decide on an amazing dish, the Pork Duo. The food was absolutely AMAZING. hats off to the owners and the chefs. Our dinner included the Pork Duo, mezee plate, lobster bisque, crispy buffalo chicken pizza, and two grilled cheese for my girls. I SWEAR that the first bite we all took we could only look up and stare at Each other with disbelief on how tasty and rich inflator everything was. I could go on all day about this place. I only wish one thing to have been different, I wish I knew of this place sooner. It was on our last night after a week in the cape that we visited this terrific establishment. The plus side to that, If we would've eaten there easier in the week, every other restaurant we went to would've seem like trash afterwards and we would have had no choice but to have gone there every night of our week. Let me first start by saying that until today, I would have given this place 5 stars all day long. The food was always consistently good, the waitstaff pleasant and the drinks cold and delicious. Tonight changed all that for me. I ordered a burger, and when it showed up, I cut it in half and it was basically still mooing. My husband spoke up when the owner walked by and asked how our meal was (I think he only stopped because he noticed I wasn't eating my dinner). My husband told him that my burger was basically raw inside and needed a few more minutes on the grill, and he asked my husband "well what did she order?" and my husband said "it doesn't matter what she ordered, look at that, you can't eat that" to which the owner came back with "I didn't ask you how it looked, I asked you what she ordered because I want to see if it matches up with what was written down". Done. Regardless of what I ordered, or what my husband ordered or what we said about our dinner, bottom line is that I was unhappy with how under cooked it was and should not have been argued with about it. I contemplated leaving the food on the table and walking out, but that's not proper. We've spent many a night at this restaurant, spent a lot of money there, but we will never go back now. It's disappointing. No apology from the owner, no offer to take it back and make it right ... he just argued. No thank you, sir. From now on we'll take our money elsewhere. read more

I'm a local and this is my favorite restaurant - I've been here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Went last Friday night and I ordered something I'd never had before - the olive oil poached cod - OMG!!! It was absolutely sublime! The broth alone was outstanding, but together with the risotto and fresh, fresh cod - heaven. I insisted that everyone at the table taste it, just to watch their reaction! Other things that you shouldn't miss are the fresh pappardelle with bolognese - the best I've ever had. For dessert, order the double chocolate cookie - baked to order in a ramekin and topped with ice cream and whipped cream! It just doesn't get any better! read more

This might be our 10th or so visit. Still think it's one of the area's best! Tried the nachos for first time tonight and have to say that they may simply be the new high bar for other places to aspire to. Sliders are always perfect too. The best that Portside offers is not even on the menu...it's the service and the attention the owner gives! This is the first time I have ever left a review on yelp, but the experience we had tonight required a response. Especially as this is listed as the #1 place around...which is shocking. Both my husband and I ordered short ribs and my toddler had chicken fingers and fries. The short ribs were disgusting, here's why: 1) they were at least 60% lard. I filled a separate plate with the lard, it was greater than the actual meat content. 2) the lard made everything else on the plate a soupy mess. 3) the other parts of the dish were flavorless. Aside from the lard flavor. This was one of the worst meals I have ever been served. When I politely explained the poor meat quality, and overall terror of the dish my server she was unfazed. My son's meal was also a heap of greasy mediocre-at-best pub food, which is what you might expect at a local dive, but not the #1 rated restaurant. The only nice thing I can say about this place was they had a good selection of sports playing and a very nice fish tank. read more

What an amazing dining experience. We were a party of 10 with reservations , we arrived a little bit early so it was suggested to us that we grab a drink at the bar and we can go up to the roof and sit and wait. It was the most wonderful experience. A nice little patio on the roof with nice benches a beautiful Breeze and then we were escorted into an upstairs room, a private room just for the ten of us. The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding, and we were not left outstanding, LOL. It is off the beaten path but well worth the walk. Great experience last night at the Portside Tavern. Heard a lot of great feedback from others on the food choices. Scampi was a smidge different recipe, yet enjoyable. Fresh pasta and bread was a nice treat! Thinking it will be a wonderful choice for sporting events, small plates, and drinks. The owner was circulating and asking how everything was, and our server was spot on. I look forward to trying some different dishes in the future.
