I went in to get take out and the young man at the register was very helpful when I asked for advice on what to order. With his help I choose the beef pho and shrimp spring rolls. He gave me directions on how to prepare the pho at home. My order was ready in five minutes. When I got home I was delighted to see unbelievably beautiful spring rolls (not fried) and the fresh pho ingredients. The peanut sauce with the rolls was delicious! The flavors were amazing. I prepared the pho as instructed and was not disappointed. It was delicious and filling yet light. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is that I probably would not dine in as there is no wine available. I will definitely be back for take out very soon. Based on the reviews, I ventured a little deeper into an area of Mobile that I have neither been to before, nor expect to return. I have yet to call into question the reviews of others but the disconnect from what other reviewers experienced and what I experienced is significant. Yes, it is in a repurposed building but that is the least of the issues. First, the gnats. They. Were. Everywhere. At first I thought it was just me but when a kindly older couple commented about them after seeing me swat repeatedly, I knew it was an issue (and in my experience, gnats equate to cleanliness issues). Next - and perhaps most importantly - was the food itself. I tried their shrimp cakes (?) which looked and tasted pre-made and purchased Sysco style which at $6.50 is pretty sad. The iced espresso was burnt and even the condensed milk could not salvage it. And lastly, the bun bo hue was some of the worst I've ever had. No flavor to speak of and processed meats and fish balls. I've had disagreements with the reviews of others in the past but there is such a chasm between what I experienced and what others experienced I have to ask about a favorable and unwarranted bias. read more

Pot Au Pho only gets a 4-star rating due to the atmosphere.....it was a bit warm inside the restaurant but the food and service was wonderful! Being the 1st trip for Pho, I wasn't sure what to get but so glad I got the Prawn Pho. The Spring Rolls were perfectly cooked and served with sweet sauce and the Prawn Pho was so good. I love Vietnamese - and was very excited to find this place when I moved to Mobile! I was a bit skeptical I would find anything I liked, since this area doesn't seem to be very Asian-food friendly (outside of the large number of hibachi grills), but I was wrong. I truly enjoy Pot Au Pho. The pho broth is subtle but delicious - one of the best broths I've had, and I've eaten all over the U.S. (Can't speak to authentic Vietnamese, sorry.) The fresh summer rolls are delicious and the vermicelli bowls are fantastic as well. I don't remember seeing clay pot pork, or thit kho to, I believe it's called, so that was a bit disappointing. Also, try the bubble teas! They are yummy - the coconut and strawberry flavors are my favorite. And, as far as pricing goes, you can't beat it. You can get a sizable meal for under $15. Worst Restaurant for Service! went in yesterday morning my waitress who didn't inform me at all that they were out of the beansprouts or basil, mind you she took my order and NEVER brought me my drink until a different waitress she was short and skinny with black hair and tan skin brought me my food she was the one who told me how sorry she was for being out of the beansprouts and basil and she noticed how i didn't have my drink i told her i was just drinking water but the other waitress never brought my drink out but i saw her ( my original waitress ) on her phone talking and talking and she never came to check on me. i've been there several other times and she is the main one who has her phone on her hand talking in her language loud the whole restaurant can hear her talk on the phone. if it wasn't for the other waitress i would have walked out. also the food isn't the best here either but i only go to it becuase it's the only decent nearby pho i can eat but besides the one bad waitress i still don't recommend it and she shouldn't be on her phone talking if she can't even attend her tables read more

The waitress i dealt with was friendly, but my order was wrong. Unfortunately i had already left with my to go order before checking it. Instead of spring rolls i received some odd shrimp thing wrapped in lettuce with a peanut sauce, and it wasn't even that good, the pho soup i ordered was supposed to be without cilantro, but it was coveted in cilantro. Best Vietnamese food in Mobile for sure. The pho is topped with plenty of beef, while all the typical garnishes on the side. The pricing is very fair especially for the amount of food you get. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!! Will not be returning! I have been a customer at this place for a couple of years now, and service has always been crappy here. They drop off your food and basically don't come back until they give you the bill. This experience though was EXTREMELY RUDE! It was about 6:30 p.m, and the place was DEAD when I arrived with my party of 10 people. I told the young kid/waiter at the counter that we needed an extra table moved to fit our party. He just stood there and stared at me. So my brothers moved a table themselves. Strike 1! Then the waitress shouts at us saying the that we were blocking her walkway! Strike 2! Did she really need more than a 7 foot width to walk through? We then told her to move the table as she pleased, as she was suppose to do so in the beginning. The young waiter than came to the table and basically dropped the menus in front of us one by one. Strike 3! He then stood at end of one table and gave us a blank stare. He definitely did not need to be there, and you could see it in his manner that he also didn't want to be there. We basically had to shout our orders to him because he did not move a step. Strike, strike, and strike ........ The food here is also mediocre. This is coming from a Vietnamese person that knows what the food is suppose to taste like. It was delish!!!! We went today and got spring rolls which were very good. I got the rare beef and brisket Pho ( large) lol... I needed the big girl bowl today and it was amazing. My hubby got the brisket and crunchy beef. He said it was good. I had my face in my bowl I didn't even taste his.lol. The Pho bowls came with very fresh basil, bean sprouts, lime, and sliced jalapeño ( which were very hot). We also tried the beef short ribs. Wow! The taste was fantastic the only downer was they were cut really thin and there wasn't much of it. Highly recommend this place it was very clean and the service was good. I decided to try this place out based on it's great reviews and they didn't disappoint! When I went in, the restaurant wasn't too full, but their phones were ringing off the hook. They seem to be super busy with phone orders so I'd definitely come in with what you want in mind, and order as soon as you get there. That being said, my food came out super fast. I would give this place minus star if possible. First thing that made me uncomfortable is the dirty environment. A spider crawled on my hand when I was taking a piece of tissue. Then a fly fell on my straw. I told a female staff who passed by my table to bring me a new straw. She directly said " I don't work at your table " without stopping her steps. Other waitresses' attitude is also no better than this one. Guess why they dare to give this bad attitude? Cuz you pay at the front desk and don't need to tip! Well I'd rather tip for a comforting dining environment and service. The other thing is the food. I ordered a beef stew with egg noodles. Well, you better call it cow's tendon stew. Only three pieces of small beef. The spring roll tasted exactly like the frozen food from supermarket. They just bought it and fried. I went to the oriental food mart next to this diner after I left the disappointing place and found frozen spring roll with the same size and stuff inside. I guess they buy food material from the market ( I saw a four star review for this diner from someone who works in that market. I believed it so I went to try it. Look at what I got! ). I would recommend you go somewhere else. I don't understand what the hype is all about with this restaurant. We were so excited to go there because we have heard good things. We were seated and immediately asked what we wanted to drink and eat. We told her what we wanted to drink but since we had never been there before and hadn't gotten a chance to look at the menu, we didn't know what we wanted or what anything was, to be honest. We sat there for over 20 min waiting on the waitress to come back and she never did until we went up front and asked for someone to please take our order. The waitress came back and was not willing to answer any questions we had. She was so rude the entire time. The food wasn't great either. I took one bite and didn't eat anything else after. Waitress never asked how it was either. We still had to pay for our food up front. All in all, worst dining experience. Will never eat there again. read more
