Fries. Burgers and more fries. This place was not as impressive as its other competitive French fry joints. Came to check this place out at around 7pm and it was as empty church on a Wednesday afternoon. The place looked clean and decent. Went to order at the kiosk but like a dating scene I already saw a few red flags: lady at counter was on her phone and you had to flag her attention, her register was not working so I had to order at the kiosk, no cheese flavored (sold out?!?!?) fries and their bathroom was nasty. Need I say more? I think the only saving grace was the crunchiness of their waffle fries, which was unfortunately a whopping $8 for a regular bucket (vs large). I wasn't impressed. There's an upstairs table seating which was nice for kids, teens and k-pop demon hunters to chill.. me? I'm not coming back. Maybe if I'm desperate? Maybe. Twist my arm.

Whenever I have a craving for fries, I usually come to this place and it doesn't disappoint. I've only tried the Cajun and the Chili BBQ flavors on the curly fries but I prefer the Cajun. It has the right amount of spice to salt ratio and it really compliments the curly fries. The chili bbq has a slight sweetness to it that is good, but after a couple of fries, I got tired of the taste. I see that they also have burgers as well in addition to chicken wings. I'll have to give it a try the next time I'm there. Overall good fries

Great spot in downtown San Mateo for a late night snack. They are located on B Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave, across the street from the wine bar and an Indo Chinese restaurant. We went with a large tub of tater tots and waffle fries. Both were freshly fried and served hot and crispy. Didn't realize how big this order was! It was a perfect snack to munch on while sitting on one of the outdoor tables in front. They offer several flavors - cajun style, chili bbq, tomato, cumin bbq, seaweed pepper salt, and sweet corn, if you'd like your fries flavored. We stuck with plain and ketchup. Will definitely be back to try their New Orleans style chicken wings, onion rings, and butterfly shrimp.

The curly fries were solid, crispy, and well-seasoned. I liked that you could choose a half-and-half mix of flavors, which was a fun touch. That said, the flavors did start to blend together after a bit. There's upstairs seating available, but the weather was too nice to pass up, so we grabbed a spot outside in the shared area. Got some boba next door as well. Great vibe overall.

Highly recommend this spot for a snack stop. I love potato snacks. The curly fries were super delicious and i even saw tater tots. They have lots of complimentary flavors. Love this spot. The service is fast and easy and so much room to sit and relax. Will definitely be back!

This place is not bad. Contrary to its name they actually have more stuff than just potatoes! I tried a spicy chicken sandwich combo and I thought it was decent. The flavor of the chicken is not bad and I thought it was fried well. The bun was a little big for the chicken though and I felt like the bun was a bit too buttery for my liking. It was a little messy to eat with the sauce and the lettuce so I ended up using a lot of napkins. The Cajun tater tots were good. They were seasoned nicely and went well with ketchup. The small size was very generously sized!

Came here on a whim as my boyfriend and I needed a little snack while doing some work. We were surprised to find a spot that reminded us of another potato joint (by a similar name). We decided to give it a try, and to our surprise, this spot is really good! Ordering is easy, there's a machine or you can order from one of the workers at the register. I like the variety of potatoes and chicken sando options. The seasonings all sound great but my boyfriend and I opted for Cajun and chili bbq. Both were delicious but I would have to say that the chili bbq won our palettes. The fries are perfectly crispy and yet soft in the middle. I would come back to try their other new flavors (garlic parm), and I love that there's an upstairs dining area where I've seen many come to work or chitchat with friends. Great vibe and in a nice part of San Mateo.

Stumbled upon this place while waiting for our dinner to be ready. The concept is similar to Potato Corner but this place was lacking flavor for my partner and I :( FOOD - We ordered the Garlic Parm + Cajun seasoning. In order to get 2 flavors, you have to order the large size. The cajun seasoning was good, but the garlic parm tasted nothing like garlic parm.. it just tasted like extra salt. The fries were cooked to perfection though - nice and crispy. SERVICE - The workers inside were nice and the answered all the questions we had with detail to help us make our decision on what to order. AMBIANCE - The inside was very well kept and clean. I enjoyed that they had seating available upstairs to enjoy our snack. Overall, this place was just ok for us and not a place that we'd go out of our way to visit.

I LOVE FRIES and what this place has is buckets of fries! Potato Guys is a great place for a quick snack after a day of walking through downtown San Mateo. You have the option to choose between different styles of fries, like curly or regular and you can pick a flavor. My favorite is the seaweed and cajun. The regular size is also quite large. It also pairs well with the many boba options in the area! If you love fries, this is the place for you!

    Grace C.

The portions are large so you may want to share with a friend. Tried both the tater tots (cheddar cheese) and the fries (Cajun). The tots had the perfect crunch. The flavor of the Cajun fries was the better of the two. As good as they are, they're just too dry. The only sauce option is ketchup but the fries and tots could be stellar with the addition of sauces instead of flavors that are dry rubs. No issues with service. The atmosphere was ruined a bit by some obnoxiously loud adults but maybe they don't get out much and forgot how to people. Not the Potato Guys' fault. The burgers were meh, best to skip those or get the tots/fries to supplement burgers from elsewhere.

One of my favorite spot for seasoned curry fries! It comes fresh and hot with lots is seasoning. Our go to flavor is chili bbq!

Tater tots with less Cajun seasoning
    YJ L.

I was craving fries, and happened to run into this place! Ordered tater tots with less Cajun seasoning, and I thought it was 10/10! Crispy outer, piping hot, soft interior, just enough seasoning. A regular size was more than enough for me. Seating upstairs and outside. I think they should monitor the state of the upstairs--absolutely dirty with napkins and trash on the ground and all over the tables, and the TV was playing something I would not want kids to be watching... But their potatoes are great, and would come back for more! Next time, I'll try the curly fries!

My new favorite fry place! The tomato seasoning is sooo good. There are lots of seasoning and fry options, including shoestring, waffle, tots and curly fries. Service is friendly and seating is comfortable, with fun tunes playing. Will definitely return!

Add all those tourists and transit people you also have people from the whole peninsula, you can understand how crowded it gets here. The parking lot is probably the worst part of the experience here because it's always congested so I do not recommend coming here is you are short of time. It shares the parking lot with the carwash and several other restaurants so you'll likely be stuck here for a long while regardless whether you are going through drive thru or parking. The food is standard in n out which means something if you either are local or tourist. In n out intentionally goes old school so there is no app no order ahead and everything is pretty much all hand made including fries. If you never had their fries you may be surprised at the difference in texture but you'll like it the more you try. The burger is fresh and my only complaint is that I don't like their buns especially if you do grilled onions or animal style because the buns get soggy and breaks apart. Ordered the Double-Double animal style, and yeah... it lives up to the hype. The patties taste fresh, not frozen, and you can tell they're made to order. The melted cheese, grilled onions, pickles, that sauce -- it's messy but balanced. Nothing feels overdone. It's just a really well-built burger. Fries get mixed opinions, but straight out of the fryer they're solid. Light, a little crispy, not overly greasy. Add a bit of salt and they're gone fast. Shake was thick, classic, no shortcuts there either. What stands out most is how consistent everything feels. The menu is simple, but that's the point -- they focus on doing a few things really well instead of trying to do everything. Service is quick, staff actually seem organized, and the place stays clean even when it's busy. It's one of those spots where you don't feel like you overpaid or got rushed through a line. You just get good food, made right, every time. Came in expecting fast food, left feeling like it's in its own category. Easy 5 stars -- and yeah, I'd go back without thinking twice.

I remember liking their regular fried chicken sandwich but I was so disappointed in this one! The chicken was crispy and sauced up with spicy sweet gochujang glaze but the chicken was room temp inside! I'm typically okay when food temperatures but it felt like the chicken sat for awhile before it was served. K-Shack BBQ Burger: 3/5. This was also an average burger. The KBBQ sauce in this burger was just not good. It was sour? Not sure how to describe the taste but it just didn't work. The meat was okay too and was greasy, just like how I remembered. Fries: 3/5. I love good crinkle fries but these also were okay to me. They were also not overly hot when served to me and I felt like I got the small pieces left at the bottom of the tray. Chocolate Shake: 5/5. The only redeeming factor of Shake Shack was this Shake. It was chocolatey, perfectly sweetened and thick! It was tasty on this warmer day. Overall, the food was average, especially for the price. I feel like for $11.49 a burger or chicken sandwich and $4.99 for fries is a lot for the amount of food and quality that you get. The only item worth stopping by to me is the Shakes. I totally get why the place was pretty empty. I wish that Shake Shack would go back to the good ole days where the food and service was cared a little more for!
