Came to check this place out at around 7pm and it was as empty church on a Wednesday afternoon. The place looked clean and decent. Went to order at the kiosk but like a dating scene I already saw a few red flags: lady at counter was on her phone and you had to flag her attention, her register was not working so I had to order at the kiosk, no cheese flavored (sold out?!?!?) fries and their bathroom was nasty. Need I say more? I think the only saving grace was the crunchiness of their waffle fries, which was unfortunately a whopping $8 for a regular bucket (vs large). I wasn't impressed. Cool fries, potato guys. If you haven't guessed, they specialize in fries. They took over C Food Crush, which used to be San Mateo's only cajun boil place. It's a little odd for a french fry place to have a spacious area, as there's an entire seating area upstairs (so great for hangouts). There's also tables outside, but no seating on the first floor. They also do burgers and other fried snacks. Wish they still had soft serve, but it's discontinued. For their made-to-order crispy fries, you pick either regular or large, the style of fries, and then the flavor/seasoning. Just pick whatever you like best; you can do half and half flavors. Cajun is solid, similar to the cajun fries at any seafood boil place. Seaweed pepper salt is exactly like the Calbee seaweed potato chips - subtly sweet and umami. The garlic + parm flavor was a bit too thick and strong on the parm for me. Large is definitely worth sharing, though you can share regular, too, if you're okay with snack portions. They stack the fries high in the cup! Their chicken sandwich tastes like an upgraded McChicken, and their other fried items are just okay. I'd go here exclusively for the fries unless you want to junk out, as the prices are pretty reasonable. Whenever I have a craving for fries, I usually come to this place and it doesn't disappoint. I've only tried the Cajun and the Chili BBQ flavors on the curly fries but I prefer the Cajun. It has the right amount of spice to salt ratio and it really compliments the curly fries. We went with a large tub of tater tots and waffle fries. Both were freshly fried and served hot and crispy. Didn't realize how big this order was! It was a perfect snack to munch on while sitting on one of the outdoor tables in front. Potato Corner in the US doesn't have the seaweed seasoning that they do in Asia, but Potato Guys does! My favorite seasonings here are the seaweed and the chili BBQ. With the large size, you're able to pick two seasonings so I always get the large. The serving size is super big and share-able between at least 3 people. The fries come out fresh and piping out so you do have wait a few minutes for them to fry it. There is a self-service kiosk but if you want to order two separate flavors for the large, you'll have to order with the cashier. There is seating upstairs but it's minimal. We thought it would be the perfect after movie snack and we stopped by after watching Inside Out 2 at Cinemark recently. However, next time I may order with the cashier since I see people say in reviews that's how you can get multiple flavors in your fries order. We got two burgers and large waffle fries to share! Honestly burgers are just OK -- I didn't feel like patties or sauce were particularly flavorful. It would have been nice if the buns were toasted and they used thin red onion slices instead of chunky white onion slices. The fries were a hit though! We got the seaweed flavor and loved it. I'm curious to try the tomato and sweet corn flavors next time. I also want to try things in tot form! Our food took a little while to come out (~15 minutes) but I think that just means they're making things fresh. There's limited seating inside -- they have a couple tables upstairs. I was excited to hear that a flavored fries place was opening in the Peninsula, and I went to go check it out with my friends. There aren't too many people, so they're able to accommodate to you quickly. There are about 6 flavors to choose from, but the Tomato flavor stood out to us the most. We ordered a Large Original Fries with Tomato seasoning, and it came out in a little less than 10 minutes. There's seating upstairs with a couple of tables, so we decided to consume our fries there. They were warm and crispy, and the Tomato flavor was great. It reminded us of the Piknik chips that can be found at Asian grocery stores. The interior is very modern, and has nice wall decal that is very welcoming. When I went the second time, my fries weren't as fresh and got a bit soggy right away. I also requested for my fries to be half Tomato and half Sweet Corn, but I guess they misunderstood because they seasoned it with Tomato and then just added the Sweet Corn on top of it. So I didn't really get to taste the difference between the two. Okay, you guys don't understand how disappointed I am. I am a Potato Corner girl all the way, so maybe this is why I wasn't feeling this spot, but I came in with bright eyes and high hopes! They have a self order station but you can't split flavors on a large, so if you want to split flavors, place the order at the register. For my large, I got half cajun and chili bbq, and a regular order of seaweed salt curly fries. They were advertising some spicy nuggs at the register so I added on an order of that too. It comes with some type of sauce, but it was ok. The nuggs themselves were good, kinda closer to a breadier popcorn chicken than nugget but super crispy and juicy with a little heat. I approve! Our fries were fresh but the flavors were all meh. Maybe that's my bad cause the dude working did say tomato was one of the best flavors but tbh I just didn't want tomato fries lol The seaweed salt on the curly fries were extra salty. Do not recommend a salty flavor on curly fries as those are usually pre seasoned as is. They messed up and gave us seaweed salt on the reg fries too, so that was better. I could see it being decent if you love seaweed flavored things, but I don't. Plus it had a sweet after taste that was just bleh. The chili bbq had some heat but also way too sweet and not cohesive.
