Potato Valley cafe is ok. I've been here a few times and will go back in the future. The potatoes are big and the toppings are all fresh and tasty, but don't expect a mind blowing experience. You want a potato with some stuff on it? Well hey they've got a good selection and the service is great. The menu is pretty big, but I still feel they're missing an opportunity with more hot fillings/toppings. (I was disappointed by the curry as it's more of a sweet curry slaw than the spicy hot curry I was expecting.) I do enjoy the place and would recommended it to anyone because sometimes a potato with veggies, salsa and dressing can really hit the spot but, hey, it's just a potato. read more

I am considering going back to Annapolis just to have another meal here. I also ordered the iced coffee, which was just right. Service was quick and friendly. Fairly mediocre. The place is a potato specialist, but the potatoes are typically overcooked around the bottom. Doesn't make much sense, but they bury the potato in salad mix as well. I had the South of the Valley with extra jalapenos and banana peppers. The woman working was kind and informative and made sure to direct me to their vegan options. Their potatoes are not obscenely large, for which both my shorts and I were grateful, but it is a nice sized potato. The beans and corn typing was very flavorful. Maybe a little more veggies could have been thrown on top, but I was filled anyway, and definitely got my money's worth. This may seem like an unimportant detail to most people, but my absolute favorite part was after I had eaten all the toppings and potato chunks, the skin was left hollowed out and was a crunchy, chewy, roasted masterpiece of potato skin. I can imagine how good it tastes with their butter in it, but I was keeping it light. The place itself was cute and clean. I took mine to go and ate by the water and it was wrapped nicely for me. They have captured the art of the light meal scene. Overall, if you're looking for a simple and comforting lunch, swing by the Potato Valley Cafe for a meal that won't ruin any hope of having dinner too. I would really like to see what they could do with sweet potatoes if they should ever decide to expand the menu. read more

RUDE STAFF. I'm allergic to dairy. So I asked if I could get the vegetarian potato without cheese. The woman said she hadn't eaten meat in 30 years and seemed to understand. WRONG! Originally she said no I could not and then went on. My LT friend and I both got a bit lost in what exactly my option was. Another guy (no hair nets in this place BTW- nasty) took my order. I said butter was okay but not cheese. He said it could be done. I realized upon getting it that it had sour cream. I can't have that either. I took it to the counter and the woman rolled her eyes and said "I told you - you couldn't get that one". Sorry for the confusion I don't recall reading that....She then rolled her eyes again and threw away and then said "I got you" and I got a super bland Southwest potato. While the staff re made my potato the staff rudely talked about how I can't have cheese and the woman kept saying "no butter". I had already said no cheese but butter is fine. However listening is not this woman's strength. Super rude, unprofessional staff. The woman is a downright snob. I was also charged $2 more and wasn't offered a refund. I should dispute the charges but the woman left me practically in tears. Don't let them charge you 95 cents for the Tablespoon of avocado you get. Not worth it. AnneBeth down the road cheered me up. I ended up with a dry, flavorless, potato with some lettuce, cucumber, and beans for almost $10. Waste of time. Waste of money. I boycott this place. There is no place I hate more than Potato Valley Cafe. read more

I stumbled upon this great hidden cafe while walking around Annapolis today! Potato, Potato, Potato. I only went in for a cup of soup but as I saw the trays and bags pass by me, I quickly changed my mind to a Bacon and Cheddar Oven Roasted Baked Potato. It was topped with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, bell peppers and pepper rings. I don't get to Annapolis much but this is one spot that I will have to return to soon :) The sample of the soup of the day" Chicken Gumbo with sausage was great too. read more

What a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting to find any vegetarian friendly restaurant serving lunch in Annapolis, but the Potato Valley Cafe popped up in Yelp and I figured we'd check it out. I love the concept of the cafe. At the center of each meal is a hearty baked potato that serves as a blank (but tasty) canvas upon which you can dump whatever toppings you want. Go crazy doing your own thing, or try one of their own unique combinations. I tried the Vegetarian Combo, which was chock full of all kinds of vegetables and legumes. For the price, I wasn't expecting much but when my order came up and I picked up the plate, I was excited. Not only did I enjoy the concept of the cafe, but they also make a damn tasty baked potato. All the toppings were fresh, and the flavors really worked well together. I'll admit, I couldn't quite tell the difference between the South of the Valley and Artichoke mix that came with the Vegetarian Combo, but I didn't care; it was a delicious eating experience from start to finish. The service was polite, quick, and the business seemed to be well-honed. A lot of the customers that came in for lunch seemed to be on a first-name basis with the staff, so that's usually a good sign. Next time I'm in Annapolis and looking for a healthy lunch, I know where I'm going. read more

This is regarding the sandwiches. You can get a very good sandwich at potato valley provided you know how to order. Their french roll and whole wheat are very good breads, but the multigrain provides for an underwhelming sandwich. I'm almost positive it has less filling and although it's decent, it's much less impressive than the other breads (and hence sandwiches). In truth, multigrain downgrades the sandwich to the level of a Chick & Ruth sandwich. It's also a bit strange how havarti is the sole cheese of choice. Although creamy, it lacks flavor. They should offer a bit more variety. read more

The reason this place is popular is that there aren't very many good, affordable lunch options in Annapolis. Compared to a lot of the greasy, expensive stuff you can find in Annapolis, this place is good. Potatoes are decent. They must be baked or microwaved ahead of time, then microwaved again when ordered. The menu is confusing. Too many items. A lot of the toppings are unidentifiable, creamy, slightly sweet thick sauce with some fresh veggies. So, it's edible. Some of the ingredients are identifiable, like lettuce, cucumber, and yellow pepper, and some aren't. This is an ok place to eat that will fill you up and won't give you food poisoning, for about $11 including your drink. read more

I found PVC on Yelp and decided to try it out since it looked like they have a lot of veggie options - so glad I did! Holy creamy potato deliciousness. First plus, you can sample the toppings, which include awesome flavor combos like "south of the valley." Second, the people working there are awesome. I discovered this place many years ago when I had a summer job working at the state house. The legislative employees were big fans. At first I wondered why a baked potato place was so busy, but then I actually tried one. The potato filling is fluffy and buttery, and the toppings are amazing. I always try to come back when I'm in town. My stand by is the garlic butter and cheddar, but I also like the artichoke one and the vegetarian combo when I'm really hungry. I especially like the extra salad on top, and I save the couple of mango slices for last. It's the best cheap lunch you can get in Annapolis! read more

This is my favorite place for a (relatively) inexpensive, quick lunch in Annapolis (about $10). It is also a great place for vegetarians! The artichoke and spinach/feta potatoes are great, so great that I have not yet tried anything else on the menu. It's true that they are a little bit odd. There's not much in the vegetable department, it's mostly a big glop of cottage cheese. So it doesn't look appetizing, and doesn't have as much artichoke or spinach as you would have liked, but trust me, it's still delicious (and I don't really care for cottage cheese). I was very skeptical when I got my first potato but now I crave this stuff. They know what's up. (skip the south of the valley though, it's just canned beans and canned corn). You must eat the skin! They somehow manage to make it super crispy and buttery and amazing. Kind of tough to cut/tear apart but totally worth it. I always eat every last bite. Maybe they are twice-baked? I don't know. They are definitely not microwaved. Whoever said that was nuts. In fact, you can watch them take your potato out of the oven in the back of the kitchen. (Also, the person who said that the fillings are coleslaw has no clue what coleslaw is.) During legislative session, this place is full of delegates and senators and lobbyists, or at least full of their aides who are picking up lunch (be prepared for a longer lunch wait january-april). Outside of session it's a real neighborhood gem full of locals. The owner, Barbara, knows everybody and goes out of her way to make sure you get what you need. Hang out here in the afternoon and watch all the locals come by and catch up. it's heartwarming. read more

I must be crazy. If an item is on a menu as coming with certain ingredients, I have an expectation that those ingredients will be on my order. So when I ordered and it DID NOT come with the listed toppings, I sent PVC a message. The reply was accusatory, seeking to blame me for "failing to properly order" something which was clearly marked as what it was, and as I expected it, however NOT what I received. We were visiting for the day from Alexandria with our friends and it was a warm day and we had been walking around for a while trying to find something to eat because one of our friends is kind of a picky eater so we wanted to make sure she could find something to eat that she liked. We stopped in here so she could look at the menu and my boyfriend and I got the free water while we waited for her to look at the menu. The older woman with dark hair gave us dirty looks and stared at us and then finally said after a few minutes in a very rude tone "do you want samples of anything..." we politely turned her down as we didn't want to take samples if our friend didn't want to eat here. We decided to move on and find somewhere else to eat and the three of us left while my boyfriend stayed behind to throw away the free water cups because we felt unwelcome and when he caught up to me he told me that the lady looked at her coworker and said really loudly "don't you think that's rude to come into a business and drink their water and not buy anything?" And then looked right at my boyfriend and my boyfriend responded "I'm sorry, this was our first time in and was just checking out the menu." And she just scoffed and rolled her eyes and then my boyfriend left. For one, that is extremely rude and both of us have worked in the service industry where we had water out for customers and on warm days you should expect people to come in just to stay hydrated. If you have water out for free, and you don't want people who aren't going to purchase anything drinking it, put a sign that it's for customers only or don't have it out at all! I have never thought that about a person who came in just for water at a place I have worked. Two, she offered us free samples of actual food but gets offended about us drinking free water??? How does that make any sense? I get that people have bad days, but this was far beyond that. Stay away from here! You don't want angry bitter people making your food. read more

I love this place! The potatoes are incredible. They are not cheap, but there are so may toppings that even with the more basic potatoes it is almost like having a salad and potato at the same time. I always go with the cheddar and garlic butter potato. It's topped with a number of veggie options, but I stick with lettuce, roasted onions, cucumber and tomato (instead of peppers) and add avocado. Delicious! The menu is a bit confusing but the lady at the counter is very kind and patient. She also gave my husband a very generous tasting of the sauces and toppings to help him with his decision making. The place is small, but we've never had trouble finding a seat. There are even nice magazines to flip through while eating. I wish they were open on Sundays too. read more

This place is 'as good as it gets'!! The potato was perfect, the onions are yummmmm, but really the best part for us was the 5 STAR service from Barbara and her team. We arrived 3 minutes prior to closing and they welcomed us as if we were their first customer of the day. Barbara took care of us, made us everything we desired, and it all tasted wonderful!!
