Imo the best fast casual sandwiches at their price point - miles ahead of subway in terms of quality and taste. Most original sandwiches are under $10 and are super filling. The deli meats have way more flavor than the competitors. I wish they had an option, however, to build a sandwich from scratch - it's not possible as far as I can tell to swap out meats on the app although you can customize the cheese. It would also be nice if they had more cheese options. The place is always pretty clean and well kept, although the employees could be a little friendlier. I've had some issues with picking up mobile orders where my sandwich isn't ready at the expected time and they haven't been super helpful about it. Nonetheless I'll go back. Yummmm! I love Potbelly but haven't been to this location until recently. There's a good amount of seating and the lighting is bright and natural. Service was quick and friendly! Not sure why I haven't reviewed this Potbelly location yet, I've been here on and off during the years including when I was an undergrad at UM in ye olden days (2005-2009...). I love their pizza sandwich here and I get it minus the capicola and meatballs. I usually get an IBC Cream Soda too but had water instead. My boyfriend had the Wreck sandwich and a soda, and we also split some Sun Chips. Total was like $16/17 which is pretty reasonable. If you download the Potbelly app, they are always doing deals, too - and I'd recommend their @Potbelly Twitter because IMO they are one of the most hilarious business/restaurant accounts on Twitter. There are also 2 levels of seating here, we sat on the ground level but usually I sit on the 2nd floor. There are two bathrooms as well (and no code needed, in case you need to stop in for a quick use). Service is always quick and fast, and yesterday was no exception. I would definitely come back to this location when in Ann Arbor. read more

I can't help but love Potbelly's. They're always catering at my business, so I get tasty leftovers every now and again on the table of sharing in the lunchroom. What I gathered was that they had tasty sandwiches, especially the turkey! Finally I went to their Arborland location and was totally blown away! Was really cute and quirky in decor, and really enjoyed the booths! (especially the Monty Python poster) I got a mediterranean salad and was so so so yummy. I came here during peak hours for lunch on a weekday and the line was enormous! Thankfully, it moved pretty quickly, though I felt a bit rushed when it was my turn. Since I don't come here regularly, this was rather stressful. However, there seemed to be many regular customers who rattled off their orders at top speed, so this works for them! I ordered a turkey sandwich which was pretty solid. This place reminds me of Jimmy John's and Subway and I'm not sure what sets them apart in terms of food. One interesting perk about this place is that there was live music upstairs in their loft area. Food: fairly well made, except they seem to be running out of ingredients, especially Provolone cheese. Don't know about anyone else but putting Swiss instead is not a good option. You guys should be up and up on food inventory or otherwise go to other restaurants to restock up. There's no excuse for this. I've always loved Potbelly and today was the first time I've eaten Potbelly in 2.5 years. I remembered why I love it. Over the past 2.5 years, the prices went up. Slightly disappointed, however, it's still pretty cheap and worth it considering how delicious it is. I love the A Wreck. I get everything on it besides the cheese and no onions. This place gets an additional star simply because they were still making sandwiches at 11 pm on a Saturday night. After catching a show at The Ark we needed some food pronto! As we made our way from Main Street toward State Street every place we passed had already closed or wasn't serving food. We rolled into Potbelly and ordered some sandwiches and soup. The food was pretty good, this is a Potbelly remember: nothing too memorable but definitely better than edible, and sat down to warm up. When I lived in the Midwest, I used to crave the Italian-style subs that are easily obtained in East Coast pizzerias. Potbelly's doesn't quite fit that bill, but it comes reasonably close while also being delicious and affordable. I like that the subs are toasted, and I like the array of toppings you can get. The hot peppers are definitely hot and sometimes greasy, depending on how much of the oil the sandwich maker grabs from the jar, so I don't always get those. One thing that I don't like as much is how if you get catering, most of the toppings come on the side. While I understand the philosophy here, it results in a dry sandwich. I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars... potbelly's isn't amazing, but it's pretty good, and definitely satisfies my sandwich needs when I'm on State St. When I'm working, I rotate between here and Amer's. The staff here is always very nice, and fortunately, they don't sing like I've heard them do at other locations. I usually get the wreck or the chicken salad, and always with hot peppers. I actually like the hot peppers here better than at Dibella's (although Dibella's subs are better). I do prefer Potbelly's over Subway and Jimmy John's. Feels like your buddy's kitchen. Casual, fast counter service with a dim color scheme and a bathroom near the counter that reminds me of the old west for some reason... Staff is knowledgable, helpful for people new to the place, they guide you through the process of ordering. Their mustard is unlike any mustard I've had elsewhere, not too spicy, not too mustard like, a perfect tangy sauce. They put the optimum amount of mustard on the sandwich, too, so that you can taste it throughout without it being overpowering. I would go back just for the mustard. There are a bunch of little things that make it friendly there from the employees to the little shortbread cookies they put on your drink straws. I used to eat Potbelly's on a fairly regular basis because my former employer would have it delivered pretty regularly when we had company lunch meetings. I've had both their veggie sub and the tuna sub. I'm not a huge fan- I prefer Subway for cheap subs and Quizno's or Mancino's for slightly higher quality. But, Potbelly's isn't bad. It's a solid 3-star sort of restaurant. They are a chain, but they're a pretty small one, mostly confined to the Midwest, Texas, and a few east cost locations. I probably would like the subs better if I ate them right in the store. But by the time you get them to go and get them home or to work, they get a little soggy. On the plus side, they have all kinds of great additions for your subs, including good quality mustard and pickle slices, and their wheat bread is good, much better than Subway's version. I also like their tuna salad a lot- it's a bit on the dry side, but flavorful. I always think it's better to make tuna salad a little too dry than a little too wet. If it's too wet, you can always add additional mayo, but if it's too wet to begin with, you just have a soggy sandwich. read more

First time here and it definitely will not be the last! The historic and fun vibe of this place drew me in the door. Then the incredible smell pulled me to the counter. The super friendly staff nudged me to the chicken cheddar flat, and encouraged the shakes. The nostalgic U of M maps and posters guided me upstairs. I always feel weird giving chains reviews - people usually already know what to expect when they go in. But since I like Potbelly's and this store in specific, I wanted to give it two thumbs up. I am a Jimmy John's hater (a shocker, I know) and this is a great alternative. Where Jimmy John's is soggy and bland (don't deny it!!), Potbelly puts on a lot of spices and toppings that kick it up. The ingredients are pretty fresh and their bread is full-bodied instead of soggy. I usually get their vinaigrette on the subs and they are out of this world. You have really healthy options and really unhealthy, greasy options at Potbelly's, as well as lots of drinks/sides/desserts, so there really is something for everyone. It's also cheap, which is tough to find alongside good food in Ann Arbor. The Potbelly on State is getting the full 5 stars because they have really, really good customer service. Despite the long lunch lines, they get you through amazingly quickly. They go out of their way to hire the friendliest staff, and it really shows. I've never had a bad experience with them, no matter how packed they are. Love it! read more
