Okay, this is the second best sandwich I have ever eaten in my life! After Earl's, but it is close! Also, there are a lot of these everywhere in Chicago, even at Midway Airport. I ordered the "skinny" turkey sandwich. I was not expecting it to be amazing nor did I have an appetite because I am usually not a huge fan of sandwiches. Omg, I love how wrong I was about it not being amazing! You choose what sandwich you want and what you want in it. Hot peppers are a MUST!! The sandwich did not take long to make or wait for, and I also got a huge pickle for only a dollar! The sandwich was seriously amazing, those hot peppers were definitely a great addition to the sandwich. The staff were really nice and friendly. I had some time between when my flight landing and hotel check-in so I decided to walk around downtown and grab some lunch. I had no idea of where to go and wandered by here and though it sounded like a good idea. It turned out to be a great idea! The service was incredibly fast. There was quite a line and I was worried I would be waiting forever, but I was in and out within 10 or so minutes. Walking inside you see a fast moving line with a waitress waiting to take you order so they can make it and get you on your way. It puts Subway to shame if you ask me! The menu's on the wall and it's pretty plain jane. For sandwiches, you have a choice between white and wheat bread, and then you have your add-ons such as lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, mayo, or mustard. The types of sandwiches range from italian, meatball, or roast beef. I opted for the chicken salad since I didn't want to be over done and full for lunch. I got it with tomatoes and mustard. It wasn't the best sandwich, but it wasn't the worst. The chicken salad was dry, but the tomatoes and mustard helped it out a bit. The toasted wheat bread I put it on was rather tasty alone. If I had to re-order, I probably would of went for a salad. That looked more refreshing and appetizing then the sandwiches for some reason. 2.5/3 Stars in my book. read more

Choose between Regular or Multigrain bread in Originals (regular size) or BIGS (about 1/3 larger). Choices are Turkey breast, Tuna, Vegetarian, Chicken Salad, Italian, Roast beef, etc...I love their mushroom melt and hammie....both made with thin cut bread and less meat and cheese for a lighter option. Yes, that's right...if you don't want too much bread? Order it "thin-cut" for 1/3 less bread, or try FLATS (thin multigrain bread). Toppings include Mayo, Brown Deli Mustard, Hot Peppers, Lettuce, Onion, Tomato, Pickle, Oil, and Italian Seasoning. Get any or all of them. Grabbed lunch to go from here and loved it, as I knew I would (being a HUGE Potbelly fan). Decor: It's a Potbelly so you get the standard random stuff on the walls and semi-hipster vibe. However, this is a decent-sized location so if you wanted to stay and eat you should be able to find a seat. Bathroom: None. Staff: The staff is always speedy with taking orders, making sandwiches and completing transactions. On top of that they are usually always smiling and more than friendly while getting down to business and making your grub. Food: The food is always delicious at Potbelly. When I cannot think of anywhere else to go I always hit it up because I know I'm getting a good solid meal. I always end up getting the same thing too: a big Wreck on wheat, potato salad, and chips. If I'm feeling like a treat then I'll get a sugar cookie because they are absolutely the BEST cookies in the entire world. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Somehow they figured out the exact time to take them out of the oven so they are right on that line of just-cooked raw cookie dough. Fantastic! But THIS time I tried the new Pulled Pork sandwich and I was pretty impressed. The BBQ sauce is very tasty and they put a lot of meat on the sandwich - I'd suggest loading on the toppings though. I really like this location - the employees are always full of positive energy, continuously chatting and communicating with everyone and it seems like everyone behind the counter is having fun. I stopped in last week for the 40th birthday deal - long story short they forgot to honor the 40% off and I didn't notice it until I had gotten back to my desk. I filled out a quick online form and within a few minutes I received a phone call from the district manager, Esther. She was awesome - basically arranged for either a refund or a free lunch, whichever I preferred. I ended up dropping in today and Keita helped me out complete with a smile and a handshake. Here's what I like the most. When a minor problem was brought up, they fixed it immediately. No question, just a sincere apology and a quick solution. It is with a bit of a heavy heart that I must write this review. I'm aging myself here, but I've been eating Potbelly for 25+ years. My high school was just a block or so from the original location on Lincoln Avenue, and I ate there a mininum of 3 times a week for 4 years. Hard to believe that there was just that one location for so many years, considering there's 1.2 on every block nowadays. Good food and good times were always had at Potbelly (and for the love of G-d, it does not have an 's' at the end). We'd cruise in, decide which sandwich we wanted to split (back then they were big enough to feed 2 people) and then decide on a shake to go with it. Then we'd pick our seat, usually right next to the jukebox. That jukebox was kick-ass. Must-play songs were "Such a Shame" by the Kinks, and "Loves Me Like a Rock" by Paul Simon. Then we'd engage in mild flirting with whatever hapless boys happened to be nearby. So much for the stroll down memory lane. *wipes tear from eye and resumes writing review* I don't eat much fast food nowadays, preferring to sit down, enjoy my food, and be sociable during my midday meal. Today, it was cold, I had work to finish, and besides, I was saving room for the delicious burger from Rockwell's that I'll be inhaling later this evening. I got outside and tried to figure out where to go. Subway, Quizno's and Jimmy John's are on my unofficial no-eat list, so I had to think quickly. I saw the Potbelly sign and it beckoned me like a schoolgirl. Fondly recalling the delicious sandwiches of yore, I headed in. I ordered a vegetarian sub and looked around for the Vitner's chips. Not seeing them, I asked the guy behind the register. Turns out they no longer carry them. Boo; whatever crappy kettle chips they were pushing weren't gonna do it for me. I recovered and returned to my desk to eat. You know what, it was a pretty lousy sandwich, and puny to boot. It had almost no flavor, except for a strange metallic-like taste. I didn't finish it, and alas, have no yummy chocolate shake to take away the pain and clean my palate. Potbelly, I am saddened that a once-wonderful memory of great sandwiches, tunes, and misspent youth has come to this. I'm still giving you 3 stars because of the good times we once shared. Very surprised there's not too many reviews for potbelly sandwiches! Especially since this sandwich restaurant is located so conveniently at the loop! This is one of the most spacious sandwich places I've ever been too. The restroom is clean and nice. The entire restaurant is cute :) I'm a big fan of sandwiches because they can be simple or a bit fancy and usually ends up tasting great! You first choose the size: Original or Big (cute difference besides the size of the sandwich is that the bag they use actually says "big" on it) -I got the Italian Original on wheat. It is a little spicy because of the hot peppers (which i then removed). Other than that the different Italian cuts of meat sandwiched between toasted healthy wheat bread is great! -I also had a few bites of the meatball sandwich! You can never go wrong with a meatball sandwich (provolone cheese + sauce + meatball + toasted wheat bread) For every sandwich you can add any topping they have listed on the board. The workers are also very nice and talkative! They knew we were not from chicago (wearing touristy shirts haha) and were willing to share what they enjoy about chicago! read more

Just had the absolute worst experience here, I spent about an hour wasting my lunch break. I was given the wrong sandwich and asked for it to be re made, it took another 15 minutes as they prioritized all their "new" customers. I finally got tired of waiting and asked for my money back. They couldn't even do that correctly, after another 15 minutes I got tired of waiting for my refund so I hope I get my money back. Terrible customer service, there was an obvious sign of mismanagement and disarray. Avoid this potbelly's at all costs and forget about ordering your food for pickup as I witnessed several other frustrated individuals. I forgot to buy a banana before I left my building for the day (I eat it after I work out.) As I'm walking down Adams, I'm trying to think of a place that has bananas from my point of origin to my gym. POTBELLY! YAY! THAT'S THE TICKET! Now I've never been to this one before. (I'm convinced all the other Potbelly's, besides the one I frequent and has my favorite girl Chyna in it, SUCK.) I'm pretty sure they can handle a banana request. It's on their menu for the love of god. The place is empty. I walk right up to the cashier. Interaction: Me "Do you have bananas?" Cashier "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" (waiting for a response something close to a yes, because I know they have them.) Cashier "Yeahhhhhh. I need to go in the back." Me "I just need one." Waiting..... She brings me a banana similar to something you'd put in the freezer just before it goes bad just so you can use it in a smoothie at a later date. It's brownish and very cold. Me "Is this frozen?" Cashier "OHHHH NOOOOOO!" Me "Interesting." I'm not sure why I paid her for this piece of crap. I guess I thought it was my only hope because Bally's doesn't sell bananas. I just couldn't understand how anyone could look at an entire stock of bananas and pick this very one to sell to a customer. I walked out of there looking like someone kicked my dog. Then, it was like there was an angel that lit up 7-11 like it was an alien starship landing on earth. Sure enough, they had about 100 bananas with my name on it. Trash, insert banana. I've been going to this location nearly every Friday since it opened. I work right across the street and it's my weekly lunch treat. I usually enjoy eating there a lot; today, however there were two problems: First, I ordered a biggie wreck and when it came time to choose my toppings, there was no biggie wreck to be seen. Someone took down my order with toppings, apologized and said that I should pay and the sandwich would be brought out to me. After ten minutes or so without a sandwich, I went up and was told "Oh, we called your name, you weren't here" and was handed a lukewarm sandwich. Not the best service ever. Secondly, and I actually consider this a bigger, chronic problem, the singer/guitar player there each Friday is among the worst I've ever heard. He's a so-so guitar player as long as he sticks to basic chords, but his singing is really, really awful. I read during lunch, and it's impossible to concentrate. His taste in music could use work, too. Killing the Boss or the Beatles is bad enough, but I'm not going to submit to butchered Dishwalla. I'll be visiting a different location for the next few months and will check in every so often to see if he's still there, and as long as he is, I won't be. read more

I haven't been to Potbelly's in a super long time, and I guess my memory got the better of me because I was really excited to have something that I remember being delicious. I was disappointed. 1) There was live music that day and the guy was awful. 2) I ordered a chicken salad sandwich that resembled nothing like any chicken salad I've ever tasted before. It was grilled chicken with some celery, no mayo, no sauce of any kind in fact. 3) The ice machine was on the fritz that day and my cup ended up with some kind of nasty gunk in the bottom. Service was obviously quick because I was the only one in there, and it was reasonably priced. The sandwich I had was OK. It's definitely better than Subway, but not as good as Quiznos. The food: Chicken salad sandwich- dry added mayo on side and it was better, but I've definitely had better Wreck sandwhich- my husband declared this the best sandwhich he ever ate, but I didn't taste it, so I can't confirm his feelings. We ordered a regular fountain drink, and there are free refills, so if you are dining in, there is no reason to order the large drink. read more

You get what you'd expect. It's a fast-food sub shop assembly line. Orders are taken as you're in line which is a bit intimidating if you're new because the pressure to order from a menu you don't know and can't see well on the walls makes it stressful! Food is prepared fast and it's not bad. Again, keeping things in perspective here. Just recently, in NJ the Potbelly Sandwich Works chain has started popping up. It was only when I visited Chicago that I first tried it, and for breakfast! Past few days, my morning staple has been the big wholewheat square with eggs, ham, mushroom, and swiss. Get this loaded with all of the vegetable fixings. The cost has been either 3.25$ or 4.25$ depending on cashier. With that, have been getting the coffee deal which gets you a medium sized cup for 1$ extra. I must say, these breakfast sandwiches are better than what we get in NJ from either Quickchek or Wawa, the local chain sandwich shops. My only recommendation, use real eggs? It may just be real eggs which have been blendered, but I was reminded of the Sysco liquid eggs for some reason. Not a bad breakfast deal when you are in a hurry in the morning. read more

My favorite Potbelly on earth can be found in the Rookery Building, a Chicago icon in that it is one of the few if any Frank Lloyd Wright renovation projects. Mr. Wright did not enjoy working on other people's work, but made an exception for the Rookery and kept his Chicago office within. Staff is good, food too and they'll often have a guitarist entertaining the lunch crowd! I always migrate to the back of the store to gaze upon the lobby of the Rookery while I have lunch. read more

I usually have a good experience at Potbelly, but the service at this particular location has been slipping as of late. A couple of the employees seem none too happy to be working there and act like they are doing you a favor making your food or ringing you up. Also, while this may not be too fair, some of the clientele can be rude, inattentive and pushy to their fellow diners. That may have something to do with the sour attitudes of the workers; I can only imagine what they abuses they receive. I like this Potbelly mainly because there's a good amount of seating. When you walk towards the back, it wraps around and there are a lot of booths and tables back in the corner as well as a patio on the very busy street side. Obviously most Potbellys are exactly alike and all chain spots in the loop get lines out the door at lunchtime, so I'm not really going to dive into either of those points- it was busy and my food was good but exactly the way it is at any other location- didn't mess up or make it better than others. It is what it is. But this is a good shop as Potbelly's go and I like grabbing a booth in the corner for some relative peace on my midday break. read more
