Poulet Du Jour was on my list for so long. So happy I finally made it. Immediately greeted so warmly, I felt at home. There was something so comforting and nostalgic for a place I'd never been. The owner interacted with us and everyone else with a level of hospitality that I feel is such a lost art. He came by to chat and was just so kind. It was refreshing to see someone who actually cares about his customers. The food was also delicious! Well, this place has been a SB mainstay for decades. It's very consistent. It's gotten expensive, when I first started coming, the Poulet au Rie salad was like $9..... it was a great deal. Oh inflation. It's still good. It's very reliable, and the woman who works there is is the sweetest. They deserve the neighborhood support! So, I have a new rating system......I will be write what I feel honestly about an establishment. We were craving Mediterranean food and decided to try this spot out. We've passed it a few times, but they're closed on weekends so we didn't get to try it out. We shared the family set between two people and it was plenty, we finished the sides and still had a whole chicken leftover. The price was super fair too. The dishes that stood out to us were the falafel and potato salad. We came on a Friday night and there was so wait. Excellent! Loved the food, loved the friendly owner and all the gents sitting at the bar. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The rice perfectly seasoned and prepared. The hummus was flavorful and velvety. I tried both the regular and spicy, and I could not pick a favorite. The garlic sauce was powerful and paired perfectly with the chicken. Beware! I had the worst food poisoning last night from eating their food. I threw up 7 times throughout the entire night. Update: the owner says it takes 12 hours to get food poisoning. Today I was at the Ace Hardware right next door (literally two doors down) and decided on an early lunch. Perfect timing! I ordered the quarter chicken with spicy hummus. If you know the owner, you know he has the best authentic don't give a f*ck attitude and if you can't handle it then don't go but don't put down the food because of it. So what if he tells you that you have too many carbs...he might be doing you a favor. Yesterday he told me I didn't need two chicken breasts and asked if I skipped breakfast. It's another mediocre restaurant that poorly mimics Mediterranean cuisine. The parking is difficult, and the restaurant had no waiters. The owner of the restaurant who plays server is slow, very loud, intrusive, nosy, and annoying under the guise of being friendly, which makes the experience of dining in this terrible restaurant much worse. My favorite Palestinian place to eat at in the South Bay Area. I've come multiple times with different friends/coworkers and always get the same reaction "the foods amazing!" "The chicken is so juicy". Neil and Rafaa run the restaurant so well. They give it a very "local bar" feel, where you take a step back from life stressors and just enjoy being with the neighbors. This is on top of the incredible food they serve so fresh and tasty. Whether it's for catering or for a quick lunch bite... this pleases all tastebuds. The falafel is the best in all of LA. Chicken is hands down always a hit. Their dips of garlic, humus, spicy humus, tahini are so delicious... You come here and feel so taken care of. Came on a Wednesday midday for lunch with a group of five, and the food was so yummy. Food came out in ~15 minutes after ordering and the family who runs this restaurant are super kind. Great amount of tables for larger groups and small groups of any size. We ordered a falafel plate, 1/2 chicken, green salad, and rice. I was told to try this place out. When I arrived the owner greeted us and was friendly and hilarious. Very helpful with helping us with with food options. Very chilled environment, nice tv to watch games. The owner told us their falafels were the best. For a sec I thought yeah right lol. But he wasn't lying at all. When I say you won't be disappointed they were truly amazing. The baked chicken was seasoned well with delicious hummus and good vegetables. Plenty of parking spaces in the back. The good: I chose to come here because my husband and I both love Mediterranean food and we didn't want to go to a fancy place with a toddler and baby. It was nice that this place had affordable food, a casual atmosphere and felt like a local favorite. I had the baklava, half chicken plate with 2 sides for $15 and the falafel plate. The falafel was the best I've ever had. It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It tasted fresh. The chicken was moist and the garlic dip was delicious. The salad had a great acidic dressing that didn't shy away from the sour side. The owner is personable and treats you like he's known you forever. The baklava was crispy and wasn't overly drenched in honey or sugar water. The ambience is old school and outdated but in a hole-in-the-wall retro way. There's a bar area with 60s style swivel stools. The bad: There's no outdoor seating. The portion was a little on the small side especially if you devour falafels as fast as I did. I was standing in line waiting to order only to witness the most unprofessional and aggressive owner I've ever seen yelling obscenities on the phone and making the staff and customers visibly uncomfortable and upset. Palpable anger ruined what is probably a delicious meal. They lost a customer before I even became one and it left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. I live off of 2nd St and I order Poulet pretty much every week. Love the family run business & everyone is super nice. My usual is the Poulet Au Rie which is a rotisserie chicken salad with iceberg lettuce, rice, and fried pita as croutons. (No cheese, usually comes with shredded mozzarella). The dressing is a lemon olive oil. AMAZING. The meal also comes with a side of pita bread. Don't forget to order some baklava with the meal. Sometimes the chicken is a little dry and sometimes there's not a lot of lemon in the dressing but hey, it happens. Still a 10/10 salad for sure. Inappropriate comments overshadows Good Food The food here was genuinely good, but the service was completely unacceptable. When we arrived, the server greeted my friend normally, then looked at me and said "you're Hispanic." When I said yes, he told me "we don't have frijoles on the menu" - as if that's something I'd automatically be looking for based on my ethnicity. Later, when bringing our food, he asked my friend if she wanted spicy sauce. She said no. He then turned to me and said "I'm sure you as a Mexican want spicy sauce." I told him I don't like spicy food and I'm not Mexican. When my friend tried to excuse his behavior as being "direct," I had to explain that making ethnic assumptions about customers isn't direct - it's inappropriate and unprofessional. Good food can't make up for service that makes customers feel profiled and unwelcome. Management needs to train staff on basic respect and professionalism. read more

Wow! I've been a resident of the SouthBay for around 10 years, and recently checked out this location. (A few friends have recommended it before). It is truly delicious, I have a feeling its one of those places that no matter what you order it will be a hit. I've ordered the Poulet au Rie Salad and it was so good, the crunchy pita chips add to the extra crunchy bite-- not to mention the Lemon Garlic Dressing, to die for. Just now ordered the 1/4 chicken with spicy hummus side and rice. Can't wait to try that. As a fit girly, this makes for some great healthy, protein-rich filled meals. YUM! read more
