This restaurant is actually an old powerhouse, the interior decor has some of what it used to be, which is really cool. It has the industrial feel when you are inside, it feels as if the old powerhouse is still running while you are eating... The staff is friendly and hospitable. Ambiance is awesome. We ordered frog legs and scallops as appetizers. They were great. I had a Prime Rib Au and it was wonderful. The meat was soff, tender, and tasty. Everything was excellent and served quickly. We stopped in on our way to our hotel in the Poconos. I had been here about 15 years ago and was hoping it had the same ambiance. It's just a fun, cool place. What a great concept and outer design but what a failure of an interior. Also must say the food was poor. Ordered the special and feel like I ate leftover pork with what they called a BBQ sauce (Heinz 57 and Ketsup). Also my pasta side was great if I was in. Nursing home. My family rented a house nearby and placed a fairly large takeout order to eat in one night. I requested for my entrees to made large enough to serve 22 people, and noted that we will pay the difference. When the order arrived, all the entrees were enough for an individual only and we had to order two pies of pizza to fill a number of empty stomachs. The person who took my order agreed to my requests and even went back and forth with the kitchen to ensure they were doable, so I'm not sure what went wrong. The bill still came out to $400+, which is rather pricey for the amount of food we received. The reason why I gave 4 stars, despite an order screw-up that resulted in 22 grumpy kids and adults, is because the food was indeed, very delicious. Finding a good restaurant in White Haven was not easy, so Powerhouse Eatery was the only choice, and a good choice. However, I do think that the takeout service can be more attentive and pricing can be better. Nonetheless, it was a great meal, albeit a bit small. read more

The Powerhouse used to have good food that was worth the price. I went there recently and got two entree's, a salad and an appetizer. There was a good amount of food. The salad was fine, but I ordered grilled pesto chicken as an add-on which amounted to about 2 oz. of chicken for an additional $8. The calamari appetizer was chewy. Crab cakes were mostly filler and cost $32. We spent over $100 for a so-so meal. So very disappointed. read more

What a gem in the middle of nowhere! This place is just great - it is right off interstate 80 and near several resorts in the poconos but was not very crowded like some of the other places we tried. We arrived a little early for our reservation and went to the bar for some beers while we waited for our table and someone (a manager maybe?) poured our beers and then insisted we go ahead and sit down because there was a table ready. He was very welcoming and friendly and so were the rest of the staff there. The building is a renovated power generation facility - really neat looking and the walls inside are decorated with historical items from when the site was in operation. The food we ordered came out quickly and everything was very tasty. You should definitely try this one out! read more

Nothing to write home about. Nice looking place. 11 of us had dinner here, almost everyone ate something different, and we all came to the conclusion, good for here, but overall, just okay. Some of the apps were decent, the lobster bisque was underwhelming, the burger was actually decent. The lobster mac and cheese needed more lobster, there were like 4 tiny pieces in it. Review 100. That's pretty awesome. Driven by this place many times and never knew what was inside. I was nice inside and I liked the theme of the restaurant. The food is a little pricey for the quality and overall quality but it is good. I ordered the Chicken and with Crab and vegetables. The chicken and vegetables were alright probably 3 stars but the crab was incredible 5 stars. We also had bruschetta and even though it was a different twist on bruschetta it was good but very oily and garlicky. The service was top notch and the beer I had Summer Love made me fall in love. I made reservations here and I was pleasantly surprises, glad we drove 30 minutes from Albrightsville (where we rented a house) to here. First off, the place is huge! I loved how they preserve the history of the landmark. Our waitress was super attentive and helpful. Provided us with great suggestions and took her time with us since it was our first time. A group of 5 ordered the following: LOBSTER AND CRAB BISQUE starter- creamy and good. I enjoyed it but I had better FRIED CALAMARI starter- OMG THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. Crispy not too batter, flavorful but the best part was the marinara sauce. My GOD, I would've eaten more if I could. HAND CUT TWIN FILET MIGNON with Gorgonzola crust, Marsala brown sauce which my sister devoured was said to be pretty tasty as well. SAUTÉED JAIL ISLAND SALMON with a pineapple and mango chutney with mash and string beans and squash. LOVE everything about this dish but the squash. So delicious. Wife and I took our friend and his wife here for his birthday. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about this place it is high end yet casual. There were kids (well behaved) with parents and young and old couples on dates as well as larger groups. You would not be out of place if you had a coat and tie nor jeans and a nice tee shirt. The food was fantastic. Our friends can be a bit picky and they loved everything. The server was rock star. I think his name was Zack but I may be wrong. Drinks were creative and delicious. Desert is a must have. After dinner we grabbed a couple last drinks at the bar. The bartender was fun, friendly, and social. The manager was also very social. We commented on the drinks and they both went out of their way to show us exactly what was it them. The cherries they use in the drinks are the best I ever had. They even brought out a jar from the ba k so we can see whT it looks like to order them. All of that plus the historic/industrial features of the building made it really great experience. Powerhouse is on the top of my go-to list. I want to be clear. You get what you pay for. The prices are not Applebee's prices but it is definitely not Applebee's food. read more

I've been going to the Powerhouse for many, many years. Service has always been top notch, and the food is always perfectly prepared and consistent. The atmosphere is great, with exposed mechanical equipment letting you know this place literally used to be a power generating building. The menu doesn't change, and is typical American fare with steaks, seafood, etc. But what they do, they do very well. If you want a high quality, perfectly prepared filet, this is the place to go. I like that they've expanded their beer selection to include some local and PA craft brews. The place is a landmark and one of our "go to" spots for a good dinner. read more

We were looking for a dinner and the best thing happened! The other place was closed. Yelp let us know about the Powerhouse and we're are amazed. I have to eat gluten free and they were fabulous about suggestions. I ate the Seafood Romescue which was packed with huge chunks of crab, avocado, and tomato. I didn't like Romescue sauce, but with lemon it was wonderful. At Pat, our server's suggestion, I ordered the scallops with mushrooms. They were perfect. My husband had the French onion soup and he loved it. He had other things which he loved all of, but his favorite was Clams casino. Pat was attentive and did not miss a beat. I love that this place is unique. It used to be a power plant that has been transformed into a restaurant. It is pretty neat to look around the place when you are there. The food is great. We have eaten here many times and I have never had a problem with the quality of food. The past time we visited was on a holiday and they were working off a special menu. I understand they do this to streamline a busy night, however just because it is a holiday doesn't cause it to be any more busy than it would on a regular night if the restaurant was filled. I had requested something from the regular menu and they wouldn't serve it to me. Also, our waitress must have had family visiting that evening because she spent more time sitting in a booth chatting with them than checking on our table and refilling our drinks. If this was my first time at the restaurant I wouldn't return based on the single experience, however based on the fact that normally their food is delicious and service is good I will of course return. read more

This place probably has the best eggplant parm I've ever eaten in my life. That being said, it was a little too expensive for my liking and the salad and spaghetti were nothing to write home about. The waitress we had was Patty. She was an absolute delight. knowledgeable of the menu and made you feel at home. She didn't rush you and encouraged you to enjoy each course thoughtfully spacing each out. She was pleasantly conversational as well. To start we were invited to try sourdough bread basket with a Salted Carmel butter that had a sweet and savory unforgettable taste. As for the appetizers, the Lobster chowder was amply filled with seafood and delectible herbs and vegetables. the Calamari was tender and melt in your mouth accompanied by a Sriracha sauce with a slight kick. Our entrées were the French onion encrusted Delmonico steak grilled to perfection and the Colossal crab stuffed flounder both accompanied with fresh sautéed green beans, rice pilaf with the steak and mashed potatoes with the fish. Incredibly prepared and presented. For dessert we enjoyed a homemade Creme Brulee and Cherry Cheesecake that was sinful. 10/10 Highly recommended worth the trip and reasonably priced. One of the best meals and dining experiences I had in the past year. Start to finish from the salad, the bread, the dinner and dessert. Waiter was one of the best servers ever as well, what all people in the service industry should inspire to be. I had the 14 oz strip that was melt in your mouth, my girlfriend had the twin fillets and for dessert creme brûlée and mocha cappuccino. Every time my husband and I drive from NYC to see the family we have eyed up this joint. I'm glad we stopped in, but only because now I know what I'm not missing. The bread and butter were my favorite part of the entire meal (that strawberry butter was amazing)- and the wine was on point. The main courses however, were severely lacking. I had the homemade crab-cakes which were over baked and dry. My sides of green beans and rice pilaf were bland bland bland - no taste or culinary thought went into it. I cook a lot at home and feel I could have made a much better dinner. This all would have been perfectly fine if the place did not present itself to be a fancy high class joint. What was spent on that food was not worth it. I would not recommend it to anybody. Sorry Powerhouse... your staff were super friendly and the design of the building is super cool... but lacking in culinary skills. read more

We started with a cup of coffee, the coffee was nice and hot, very flavorful, I drink it black no sugar, as coffee should be drank. No bitter taste. We ordered the Hummus platter and Sesame Shrimp. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, well balanced flavors, vegetables were crisp and fresh! The hummus platter was great, fresh olives, fresh roasted garlic, well balanced olive oil, fresh feta cheese, nice sized platter. All around very good experience! We will be back for more. read more

My son and I travelled a great distance yesterday to Wellsboro Pa to view a rare White winged Tern. People from all over the country came to view the bird during its four day stay. During our trip west on I-80, I spied the Powerhouse Eatery. We made a mental note as to the exit and agreed we should show up for a late lunch. A very cool looking place. A convenient card left at every table explains the history. This was the power facility for a Tuberculosis sanitarium. The whole site was vacated by the mid seventies and converted into a restaurant in 1989. Showing up at three, we scored a table straight away. A very nice server (Gabby?) took care of us. We ordered some fried calamari and a mess of wings-BBQ and HOT. The calamari was average-very small rings. Not greasy at all and the marinara was tasty. But the wings were some of the best we have had. Plump, juicy, crispy. We could have eaten them the rest of the afternoon but we still had another hundred miles or so left to travel. Fries served with the wings were fresh and delicious. Need to figure out an excuse to get out here again. I'll work on that. Hope to see you next time. read more
