Large or small issue with your car, just take it to Joe. His prices are extremely fair. He schedules his services so you know when to drop off your car and when you will be able to pick it up. He does outstanding work. I actually had this one issue that no one was able to figure out what it was. Joe looked at it and he was puzzled at first. He decided to take the car and open it up to see what was going on. I came here to get my brakes and roters replaced as the last place I took my car told me I was at 5% (and of course pushed me to get them fixed right away!) They both were so cute and warm. Also, upon meeting him outside of his work domain and after the first great impression, I decided I wanted to go with him. I meant to write a review weeks ago! My 2001 Honda Civic was overheating, and while a large chain wanted to charge me a large amount (and also made it sound like putting a new temp. gauge wouldn't solve the problem) I found Precision Auto here on Yelp. Thanks to all the five star reviews, why not? I drove my limping car into the drive, and Joe took it in, explained what was going on, why this test would eliminate that possibility, and that test would only be needed if such-and-such happened. So far so good; and then I told him I had to pick my kids up around 3:00 from school. It was around 11am, I think. He did the test, had to go get a part he didn't have, and the car was ready and running by 3:00, and I was able to pick my kids up pretty much on time. He did ask me to come back so he could double-check on something that *might* happen after the fix. (I didn't make it back, sadly) Turns out that almost a month after the repair, my car was hit and totaled by a truck. :( So now that I'm searching for another car, I'm going to see if Joe can inspect the used-new-to-me car before I buy. Seriously don't want another lemony tasting car like that Civic was. So ladies and gents, I highly recommend Precision Auto & Joe. read more

I had really hoped to give Precision Auto less than 5 stars... Not because I am a jerk or because I expected horrible results, but because I generally don't like to give 5 stars to anything on Yelp after just one visit and I'm skeptical when EVERY other review is 5 stars to begin with. But after my experience today, the 5 star reviews are well earned. These guys shattered my expectations. I went in to a full service auto shop for a simple oil change. I thought, if they can get an oil change right then they can probably do some other things well too. So generous of me, right? LOL. Not only was the job done well, but it was accomplished with excellence and ummm, precision. The owner, Joseph, excels in customer care and honesty. His partner in crime, Jorge, is equally top notch. The ambiance isn't great - just a couple plastic chairs on the side of the car bays, but that's not what you go to a mechanic for. (Until Starbucks does a joint venture with Aamco Transmission.) Prices are very fair. I know because I got a few estimates and compared them to others I'd received. I will definitely be making the return trip. I made an original review out of emotion but am coming back now with more facts since I went elsewhere for service- I first went to Joe's over a year ago and he was really kind and hooked me up with the price fixing my car.. I've since been back multiple times, the last time paying about $800 for my car but we left things unfinished because my budget couldn't afford it. As time passed, Joe seemed less reluctant to help me- I typically ask a lot of questions and price-check since men mechanics have been notorious to try to overcharge me or replace things I don't need.. Even if it's annoying, it helps me understand my car better. The last time I was in was incredibly disappointing. I brought my car in 2 weeks ago because I have to make a 16 hr drive from California to Colorado and wanted to make sure my car was ok. I explained this to Joe and asked him to check out my car to make sure it's good to travel that far to which his first response was "What do you want me to just give you an oil change or something?" I told him I wanted my whole car checked out for my safety and he told me "there's just no way to even make sure a car can drive that long." He then went to "check" my car, and came back within 5 minutes telling me everything was good to go. He didn't check under my car and told me there is nothing at all wrong with it. (Mind you, he never brought up the original fixes that still needed to get done which I found on a receipt when I got home) My engine also runs very loud and I have had my check engine light on which he told me was just a loose gas cap and that he could not hear the sound of my engine... which was clearly making noise. We went back and forth with each other for a couple minutes, my friend hearing everything over the phone and even stated "Wow this guy doesn't seem like he wants to help you at all." Flustered, I decided to leave and have since went to another mechanic who informed me my back breaks were completely worn out, I needed to change my rotors and had a problem in my engine ventilation system that FINALLY got fixed At first I thought I was overreacting or maybe my car really was fine for a 1000+ mile road trip, but I trusted my judgement and went somewhere else that revealed the true problems with my car. Like I said, this place was great at first. I don't know if I caught Joe on an off day or if he simply just liked me less and less as time went, but the fact that my safety was disregarded and I was told everything was fine without actually checking my car in detail makes me feel inclined to write this poor review. -Wishing the best for future customers of this establishment and hope this review helps towards that. read more

I shopped around for the best deal possible on a massive brake and suspension job for my 1998 ford explorer. Joe, gave me a great price for the brakes. Actually, he gave me a great price for the suspension too but another mechanic took an hour to inspect my truck and I felt compelled to hire him for the suspension job. You know, spread the wealth. But, Joe did such a great job on my brakes that he must have done more than just the brakes. My truck handles great. It doesn't shake anymore. It doesn't veer to the left. and slide to the right when I hit a pothole. And even though I promised another mechanic my suspension job, I may have to go back to Joe. I was very hesitant on going to a mechanic in Van Nuys but I was very very happily surprised by this service that Joe provided. I had my two emergency brake lights not working and I was really concerned given the time constraints.
