I brought my 1993 BMW 325i to PMW. The coolant light kept coming on. Long story short, they checked it out, fixed it, replaced belts, and more, at a very reasonable cost. They fixed my sticky drivers' side door lock and they waived the labor! No parts were needed (just lubrication), yet they could have charged me labor for taking the door cover off, inspecting and fixing. Wow! Times are tough, and I don't have a lot of extra cash, and this was just the cherry on top of the great service I received. I shall be bringing my vehicles to them henceforth!!! read more

This is a second, more informative review than the one I posted a little more than a year ago. I am expanding on my original posting because I love these guys. I've been working with them for a few years now, and have had them work on my Passat, my BMW 330, and my Dad's Mercedes C-class. In all instances they have been reliable, honest, intelligent, supportive and funny. Others here have said that Precision cares about more than money, and I agree wholeheartedly. They absolutely want to build ongoing relationships. The work that they have done for me has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Jeff's customer care is incredible. Two examples: My first interaction with Precision was with my Passat. I was selling my car and needed to fix the knob for the electric mirror. I called the dealer and found out what the repair cost, called Precision (found on cars.com mechanix file) and was quoted a lower price by the owner, Chris. When I showed up for my appointment, it turned out that Chris had made an error in the original quote--but he honored the lower cost, even though it was an honest mistake. That was the reason why I kept coming back. Next-- I was wearing down my tires in a way that was dangerous, but I was unaware of it. Jeff was really concerned when he noticed the problem. He recommended a tire shop for me, gave me the tire size that I needed, called BMW with a question about my particular model, reviewed the information that I found on the web from a tire site that he recommended, and then called a local tire shop where he told the manager what I needed and when I would be coming in. I was blown away that he took that amount of time to help me with something that Precision made no money on. (The tire shop made a sale, he did not). But that is what I have learned is par for the course at Precision, and why I trust them and recommend them so wholeheartedly. I want to give a shout out to the guys that work here. Jeff and Anton were fabulous! Was looking at purchasing a used VW Jetta Sportswagon from a local dealer for our daughter, but the car was being sold as it. I wasn't going to take my chances and brought it over to Precision Motorworks late on a Friday afternoon. Jeff fit us into the schedule and had Anton inspect the car thoroughly for us. They didn't just look at the car, but went through it with a fine tooth comb. Learned quite a bit about what to look for. I can't say enough good things about this place and the people that work here. So glad I found them on Yelp. They gave me a great deal for a routine maintenance of my car and didn't even charge me for the extra work they performed; they found a nail in my tire and patched it and replaced a broken headlight. Chris and Jeff are guys who imbibe the customer is first motto and do everything they can to ensure it. I took my 2003 Audi A4 for a diagnostic there as it had starting/charging problems. Chris gave me 50% discount on the diagnostic check up. They also recommended a battery replacement which I did with an anytime replacement warranty for 30 months guaranteed. I felt very comfortable leaving the car with them without having to worry about being fleeced/robbed as other dealers/mechanics do. They understand the car very well and recommend necessary repairs and maintenance only. No extras are "recommended" or "needed" when they explain things to you. My husband and I have been going to this shop for both of our cars for two years now and we love it! These guys are trustworthy, friendly and do great work on our cars. Plus they clearly love what they do. What else could you possibly want? Once I brought in my car thinking that something terrible was wrong since it made a terrible noise every time I made a left turn. It turned out that something was just bent and rubbed against the tire every time I turned in that direction. They adjusted it and didn't charge me anything! They also work hard to search around and find the best price on any parts that we need for our cars, which we really appreciate. They are not the cheapest for everything but we really believe that we save a lot of money in the long run by maintaining our older cars and avoiding more costly repairs. They are very communicative about letting us know when our car will be ready, getting back to us with estimates, explaining in detail what is wrong, giving us options of what really needs to be fixed and what can wait a few months if we don't have the money right now. I was shocked to see a review saying that someone had a hard time getting them to call him back - are they sure they are reviewing the same place that I go to?! We were thinking of moving to the peninsula recently and decided that we would keep taking our cars to Chris and his crew even if it meant driving half an hour in each direction (we used to live just down the street). They are that good. It is hard to find great mechanics like these guys these days. We ended up moving just a little ways south in San Jose so we are excited that we can keeping going here without the long drive. read more

After being disappointed by some careless work done on my Audi A4 in a shop in Redwood City, I decided to instead bring it to Precision for its 60k service and for a diagnosis on the Check Engine light. Precision's staff hit the rare trifecta: they're extremely knowledgeable, they're polite and courteous, AND they're not trying to screw you. My initial conversation was with Chris, and Jeff ended up working on my car. Both were a pleasure to deal with and were never vague or misleading about costs or what work needed to be done. My car left in great condition, and I have no plans of going elsewhere for any future repairs. (And from the Talking To Jeff While Picking Up My Car department, I bring you three choice bits of trivia: he has an Electrical Engineering degree, was an integrated circuit designer for a bunch of years, and likes Mythbusters. Being an "elderly" lady, i have not always had good luck finding a good and reasonably priced mechanic's have 7 brothers who are mechanics, so I will usually go to them for advice. Or my son-in-law who is the best. I found out about Precision Motorworks by accident and the are located just down the street where i live, so it is very convenient. over the past year of bringing in my 05 Subaru in for work, i have become very comfortable in their being the shop of choice. And the main reason is that they don't do expensive work on your car if it doesn't need it. That has not been the case in many shops I have used over the years. I recently took my Audi A6 for maintenance and It was a Great First experience. Work was explained in detail and Work done and car ready at promised time, I even got dropped off at my home in the morning. Chris and Jeff are my car doctors since 2007! Excellent Customer Service. I feel super comfortable when I drop my car for service. I can understand what they are talking about when they explain issues with the car. I have 12 year old VW New Beetle. They fixed a major issue with the fuel injectors in 2008. They were very reasonable with the charges. The car is in great condition. For minor issues that could wait to be fixed they give me honest good advice to wait and monitor it. The SRS Danger light came on and said to take it to the dealer. Because its a Mercedes Benz it would cost $200 for them just to look at it and give me an estimate. :-( After calling 3-4 shops who had no idea what the fault codes meant or how to fix them. I sent an email to Precision Motorworks (PM). The next morning I got a call and went in. There Master Mechanic with years of Mercedes experience went through the error codes explained what they meant and cleared them for a fraction of what it would have cost at the dealer. I had an okay experience the first time I took my car here so I decided to give them a second try for a major service. I made an appointment at 8 and arrived on time only to be told that no one would be available to look at it until 9. No biggie, but I would have rather have been told that ahead so that I didn't have to cram my morning preparations for work in order to get there at 8. I was told by a nice mechanic that someone would call me at around 9:30 after they had looked at the car. Great. I went to get coffee and work on my laptop, but when no one had called me by 10:20, I called to get a status. "Jeff" answered and told me that they had not even looked at the car and that someone would call me between 12:30 and 1. Whaaaaat? I was surprised, but Jeff told me that's how they always do it. I said I had never been told that, but Jeff's attitude seemed to be "you should have known, and I don't particularly care if you are inconvenienced." I wouldn't have cared had I known ahead since I could have arranged my day differently to accommodate that schedule, but I hadn't. I told Jeff I'd have to pick up the car and he said "fine" (subtext, "I couldn't care less if we have your business or not.") No apologies. Nothing. When I arrived to pick up my car, Jeff's attitude continued. I told him that I didn't appreciate the posture that he was taking and that he hadn't even apologized at all. He said, with the same attitude, "for WHAT?" He reiterated their procedures, but had no explanation when I said, "How am I supposed to know your procedures if no one has ever explained them to me?" I explained that I had been told someone would call me around 9:30, and he responded with "we're training him." I told him that all it takes is an apology, but he still didn't get it. No doubt if someone brought this incident up to him, he'd still not get the concept of customer service and he'd be defensive. His complete disregard for my time or my business has soured me on this place. I feel bad for Chris, the owner, because he seems like a nice guy, but this Jeff guy makes it impossible for me to recommend this mechanic to anyone. Good mechanics or not, nothing is worth putting up with this guy. Jeff, just put the attitude down and back away slowly. read more

Jeff and Company had been very reliable for the 1.5 year I knew them. This changed when my car was worked on at the end of April 30th. I scheduled an appointment online via Scott and got in the following week. It took them much longer for routine maintenance. I was on business travel, so I guess that makes some sense as to why it took a little longer than normal. About three weeks after my maintenance was completed, I noticed an oil leak. I thought that was strange as I had it corrected by Precision Motorworks a few weeks back. I talked with my buddy who is a mechanic and he said that the Oil Filter Kit and Castrol Edge service that had been worked on by Precision Motorworks was prone to leak. He asked me to get some work done by a mechanic when I had a chance. I was moving, so I couldn't go back to Precision. I swung by a Jiffy Lube in Phoenix, Arizona. They explained that the Oil Filter Kit and Castrol Edge work that was done by Precision Motorworks caused them to change the Oil Gasket, because of the residue left by the leak. This was an additional $200.00 out of my pocket. I imagine I will also need to get another Engine Clean, which was one of their recommendations to be done right away, because of the oil leak. I wish they tested my car out a little more prior to putting me on the road. You cannot control issues like this all the time, but it was in their wheelhouse and they should have been more upfront with me about a potential oil leak and 2nd Engine Clean. read more

WTF. I guess this place doesn't really want business. I called to make an appointment and spoke with Angel. He asked for my name & number & said the service manager would call me back about an appointment. I called at 9am & they open at 8am. I asked when the service manager would be in. He said he'd been in around 9:30. I just called now at 10:30 to ask about the appointment. Angel again answered the phone. He said he relayed the message to Jeff, the service manager and that he just got in. I asked then, when I would hear from Jeff. He said probably about an hour. I said, I've never gone through a process like this to make an appointment. I asked if they had someone to make appointments & he said, yes, Jeff the service manager does all the appointments. I said, well, this is unusual that it takes this long to hear about getting an appointment for business. I said don't bother calling, I will be taking my business somewhere else. read more

What I really like the most is that they stand behind their work every time. Plus, I think that I like the personal approach that they take with me where there is a fun banter between us. I came to Precision Motorworks after taking my car to the dealership for a routine check-up and being told I basically needed to replace every part under my hood. My roommate who has been taking his car here for years said, "Don't pay a thing- get a second opinion at my place because my guy is amazing". I took my car in and was immediately greeted with a smile and extremely friendly service by Jeff and everyone else in the shop. Jeff was extremely up front with me on what needed to be done, what didn't need to be done, and what should be done but didn't need to be done right now. At the end of the day, he/they understand that it's building rapport through honestly and transparency that will make a customer a client and keep them coming back and referring people. I especially love how they send you a thorough inspection telling you the overall health of your vehicle and very clearly highlighting what needs to be repaired with a detailed write-up and pictures. Jeff even showed me the areas under my car of concern so I could see them with my own two eyes and we could talk about the issue(s). This place is diffently worth yelping about! At the same time that I had my fuel filter replaced , my "check engine" light came on. I kwew that this somehow had something to do with the light coming on.. My car had just recently had routine service. I take good care of my car I always do the recommended service on it. So I called my dealership, the one that had just done my last service in January 2011, to find what it would cost to turn the light off. I was told $40., so I booked an appt. When I dropped the car off, I was then told that it would not be $40, it would be a $165. which upset me. I then decided not to have the car looked at by them. It's not the first time that this dealership, :BESOFF MOTOR"has let me down. For such a big dealership, the worst customer service ever!!!!When I came home I researched some repair shops on line. I really didn't feel confident with the first coulpe repair shops that I called. They were also going to charge alot . But when I called Precsion for a price, he told me to bring my car by he would put my car on his computer, read some codes and let me know what the most likely cause of the problem was, for free! I asked who I was talking to and he introduced himself as Jeff, the service manager. No doubt that Jeff must have thought that I was not only rude but proberly a crazy lady. I found it hard to belive that he was telling me that it would be free. Jeff went on to say that there are many things that could trigger the "check engine" light. He said that when the filter was replaced that maybe there wasn't enough gas in the line, when I first went to start it, which would cause a mis-fire causing the light to come on. When I took my car to Precsion the next day, His computer indicated that it was a mis fire and he turned the light off. Jeff did exactly what he said he would do. He also told me that if the light were to come back on, that there likely is a different problem. I really feel confident that if I ever needed service or repair to my car that Precsion will not only tell me the truth but give me great customer service.I highly recommend them. I have found my mechanics! Precision Motors is truly as good as it gets. They were able to repair an automatic door on my car for $300 less than I was quoted elsewhere. They even beat their own estimate by $150. They thought my repair would take overnight so they arranged for a rental car to pick me up at home. I just can't say enough good things about them. This is the first time I brought my car to them after contacting Chris through their website. Impressed by their knowledge about my car and professionalism. Quoted me half hour labor to reflash my car ECU (they're APR dealer), but because VW dealer messed up the flash they needed to send it to APR headquarters to get it flashed. Did not charge me extra because they said it's not my fault that the dealer messed up the ECU flash. They called me to pick up the car on the date I was told and everything works as promised.
