Jr came out about a week ago to clean my old wall heater. After examining the heater he said that it looked pretty bad , sooty and kinda black inside. He still offered to clean it but couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't just didn't get black or sooty again. Given the age of the heater ( more than 30 years old) I opted to replace it. JR gave me a reasonable quote and could install the next week. As promised he showed up timely and installed my new heater and thermostat. He did the work and cleaned up after with little (no) mess. My experience with J R and Precision Works began last year when I requested for an estimate to install a new AC system. Having lived in the City and the Peninsula almost all my life in America, an AC was never a need or a want. But now, the climate has changed and it is almost a necessity to have one not only for the comfort of my family but my dogs as well. Why it didn't happen last year was not J R's fault. The dynamic of my family changed. Life happens and certain things were more priority than a new AC. 2020 hit us very bad with Covid, lockdown, and fire all over the Bay and beyond. The hot weather has been unbearable . I contacted J R and now it was time to move fast because we couldn't even open the Windows at night because it was very Smokey on top of being 88 degrees at 8 pm. Sleeping has become a struggle. JR was prompt with his reply and showed up on time. However, the good part of the experience stopped there. He diagnosed the problem to be leaked refrigerant; even showed me some gauge with some reading which was supposed to mean the same. As a follow-up, he wanted me to charge my unit with the full factory rated capacity of 11 gallons of freon. Freon is expensive; market rate of around USD 80, JR quoted 100 (not too outlandish). However, when I asked how he would guarantee that it won't leak out again, he had no solution. Needless to say, I wasn't convinced and showed him the door after paying the hefty visiting fee of 99 USD. Now comes the best part. A couple of days, another HVAC guy showed up and found that there was no leakage. He correctly diagnosed the problem with the compressor not starting because of faulty starter unit, replaced and fixed it in a jiffy. Charged 250 bucks; could have been less if I negotiated, but I was happy to have my AC working again. JR clearly doesn't know a single thing about HVAC and diagnosing and repairing those; couple that with trying to sell me large quantities of marked up freon. Nice guy but he doesn't have knowledge. He mis diagnosed my ac problem and replaced a circuit breaker. And then he came back and replaced freon. I saw him calling his friend asking what to do next. I told him freon doesn't cause circuit breaker to go off. He was pretending he was adding freon but I could tell freon pressure was perfectly normal. He charged me several hundred dollars again. I continued to have the same problem. Few days later he came back and replaced electronic component in AC unit because his friend told them that has to be it. He finally works again but I suspect his knowledge on AC and honesty. read more
