I really appreciated being able to calendar/schedule an appointment online for the following week and being shuttled home after dropping the car off. This would be a 5 star except my appointment was for 10:00 am and I learned, late in the day, that a part needed to be ordered and would not be in until the following morning. I had appointments that morning and needed the car which meant another trip back to the shop and a brief wait for the part to be installed. When I am granted a 10:00 am appointment, it is my assumption that the diagnosis will take place near that time and that any minor parts could be ordered and installed in time for a same day pickup. I was interested in obtaining A/C repair service after receiving an extremely high estimate from another shop. I walk in to Preferred and explain that my compressor has gone out and I need an estimate for a replacement. The person at the counter asks me if I have taken my car there before and I said "no". She tells me that they don't do estimates for new customers. (Huh, how do you get new customers?) Anyhow she tells that they need to evac the system and recharge a/c before they do anything and that it would cost $185! I said I had already paid for that exact service last week and it won't hold a charge. She says that's their policy and they have to repeat the service. Period. I said well I guess we are done here and I walked out. I am shocked that other reviews said they were reasonable and accommodating. My experience was completely different. read more

This place was referred to me by a colleague and I started bringing my three cars there. Below I'm writing about my experience over the last three years and over 6000 USD in repairs! Oil Change: If you need a simple oil change or check up, the place is doing an okay job but on the expensive side. Light installations: I had my BMW in the shop 5 times already to fix brake light and turn signals. Several times the installation was done faulty (touching the bulb without gloves lets the bulb explode; loose cable connection etc), so they had to replace again. The third time I went in I paid over $1000 to have the entire rear light fixture exchanged. Still shortly after the brake light malfunction sign came on again. I wet in for a 5th time and they changed the bulb and not even half a mile away from the shop the malfunction sign came back on. I'm bringing the car to a BMW dealer now to have this inspected. Brake pads: I changed brake pads at a 66k miles, which was in line with when they should have been changed. Now 20k miles later, they said they were run down again and had them changed. Only when I came home to check my records I noticed they just did these 20k miles ago. Not happy about this at all, since these 20k miles driving during a pandemic wasn't heavy commute miles and should not have worn out the pads this quickly. Not going to bring back my cars to this establishment going forward. Anyone using Preferred Automotive, I recommend to do your homework before you go in or get a second opinion from another shop before doing any work. read more

I went to this shop because my hyundai sonatas brakes are sticking and and the brake light wont turn off sometimes. There person at the front desk told me my altinator need to be changed and thats why my brakes where sticking. I really believe this people dont know what there doing. This is a long overdue review. I drove from the Los Angeles area to the Bay area early June and got some strange warning lights on my car. Went to pep boys to get an interpretation of the lights which turned out some gibberish... Suggesting that I had major problems with my car that would have costed thousands. Call preferred automotive... Read them the code output over the phone, despite the output their response was 'you might just need an oil change. ... Drop over and let us check your oil levels'. Drove to their shop... They checked the oil and to my disappointment the oil level looked fine. But the guy still felt that most likely the car was Just in need of an oil change and directed me to a local Valvoline shop just a few minutes away (thank God 4:00 p.m.).... They changed out the oil and a jiffy and a miracle.... All the warning lights disappeared .. the car was just fine. Thanks so much to preferred automotive for their experience and honesty. Called to get in estimate to get brakes and rotors replaced, over the phone I got an estimate of $400-$500 and was asked to bring it in to give a more accurate estimate. So I did, got a call back saying it was gonna cost over $700, which at this time wasn't in the financial position to do so. Went to pick up my car, the person I spoke to on the phone went on to tell me they use the best parts and that's why he was goin to charge me an arm and a leg. Again, ya ever had tough time and then they know it and go on to tell u why you can't afford it... so disrespectful. In no way was I expecting a hand out but it was unnecessary. Oh it gets better... they went on to charge me over $80 just to give me an estimate! If I would have known how much they were gonna charge I would have never taken my car, that's the reason for my initial call to make sure I can afford it and they failed to tell me they charge just to give an estimate. Ridiculous! Everything happens for a reason, I vented about this to a family member which then referred me to a friend that works at Toyota and replaced them with Toyota factory parts and almost half the price. Either way.... Got new brakes and I would never come here again for service. read more

When using a new automotive repair shop, I sometimes get a bit weary especially with an older model car. I've been been taken advantage of before, so I usually get a few estimates first. I am new to the area so this was a task I just wasn't looking forward to, but I get here and the service was great and of course a lot less than two other places I checked out that told me so many other things were wrong with my car that were not true. I get my bill and it's under $200 where a couple other places wanted me to pay over $1000 for repairs that weren't needed. Thank you for your honesty. Highly recommend. read more

I was Very, Extremely, Greatly Disgraceful. Once the truck was tested, I got a call and I was quoted $93.53 and I found that very low cost, but maybe that was should be to replace a sensor, so to be sure I said... "It's kind of noise he, did you say $93.53?" and it was confirmed. I went to get the truck and in trust and good faith I signed the paper without checking that out, just to find out when I got home that the bill was actually $930.53, let me repeat it with words (NINE HUNDRED THIRTY DOLLARS AND FIFTY THREE CENTS). You can tell that I miss understand, but I repeated and it was, again, confirmed, even if I didn't understand, there's a huge difference in numbers and sound. (10 X more the quoted price). You have my record and number if you feel like calling to straight that up, so I'll leave that up to you, after all the money is gone already and a big unexpected hole in my account. Triple A towed my car to this shop when my alternator went out. They couldn't accommodate the same day service I needed and I had to rent a car as I teach in San Jose, etc.- then they overcharged me by $300 (I checked with other shops afterwards) AND the next day my back windows didn't work. I called and the guy said "That's nothing to do with what we did, and it will be a new charge if you bring it back". I googled the problem and the first video showed me how to reset the power windows when a battery goes out (that's how you know it's the alternator if the new battery doesn't work). I did it myself in 5 minutes. I don't buy that a shop didn't know that, being in the business, as it is a common fix that I, a 63 year old woman, found in five minutes. I would not recommend this shop, it is lacking heart and integrity I believe. read more

Preferred Automotive was recommended to me by a local body shop owner. As it was a trustworthy source (later confirmed by a family member of mine), I decided to take our car in. The whole experience was outstanding. An appointment was made for drop-off, which included scheduling a ride back home for me. When the work was completed, the shuttle picked me up at home. I only asked for a brake inspection, but their staff gave the whole car a once over. David found a couple of extra things that he recommended doing and even completed one small item at no charge. Though I definitely feel the cost of the work was fair, it is also very important to me that I do business with people who are honest and care about the work that they are doing. I went in for an oil change and walked out with a list of recommended services totaling over $800.00! I was very surprised since I stay on top of servicing my vehicle. A couple items, I was told, should be done very soon as they were in most need of repair. I of course took my car in for a second opinion elsewhere- there was only one item that needed to be done, costing about $100.00. You can imagine my relief. I'm really disappointed with them. They told me my rear brakes were about done- the other guy I went to for the 2nd opinion showed me my brakes, and said they easily have 15,000 miles on them. Its situations like this that leave the general public leery of mechanics in general. I was so stressed out about what I thought was close to $1000.00 in repairs, only to learn it was baloney. Came in for an oil change/check up, after having been told on the phone that I would be able to relieve a ride home and then back to the shop (only a 5 minute drive), and upon getting there, presumably either the owner or manager says to the receptionist, "Oh, an oil change? He can wait." Completely inconsiderate, rude, and unprofessional. After that, I return to my car to find that the individual who test drove it left a mess, adjusted my seats & mirrors, and changed my radio station. I mean, shouldn't he have had the radio off in order to be listening to my car? On top of that, the receptionist made a mistake when charging me and over charged me. Definitely wont ever be coming back and would suggest others do the same. read more

I Was told by my previous Auto repair guy that I was going to need new front brake pads next time I had my oil changed. I brought my vehicle in to preferred automotive for this reason. After their analysis of my breaks they called me up and said they were fine and only charged me for my oil service. Absolutely amazing someone who still practices honesty for business. I brought in my car as my check engine light was on. Preferred Automotive charged me $117 to evaluate this issue and I was told that if there was any issues that needed to be fixed that the $117 would be credited towards the repair. There were quick to take me in and checked my car out. After an hour I was told that the software in my car was old and needed to be updated. I was going to be charged $280 in addition to the $117 to update this software in the car. I thought that it was odd that my software in my car needed updates since I took my car in just a year ago into Toyota to update all the computer software in the car ( My car was recalled so I got all the software updated free of charge). I took my car into another automotive shop for a second opinion and It ended up a completely different issue. $117 wasted and thank god I didn't waste another $280. read more

We scheduled an oil change for her car and were taken in at the scheduled time. While we were there I asked if they could also change a headlight on my car and they did that too! Everyone was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I felt very confident in their experience with BMWs and the feedback they provided me about my car. I was impressed with the level of detail regarding the inspection they performed. I'd bring my car back for sure! The day after they worked on my car, it didn't pass smog, and they were very kind and understanding to explain why it didn't pass and what to do about it (very minor - had to drive car around for a few days to build the computer memory back up). I have nothing but horrible words to say about this establishment. About a week ago I came in to get my car serviced and to get my brake pads replaced and received horrible service. The front desk worker was very rude and unwelcoming. The owner of the establishment, David, was there at the time and was being very rude to his employees and had an awful atti. It took the workers about 45 minutes, which I think is too fast, and was given the bill and was rushed out of there. I will never recommend this place and will be going elsewhere for my automotive needs. read more

I needed an oil change and took it to this shop after having found their Yelp reviews online. I usually do my minor services myself but I've been extra busy this season with work so I needed a hand. Their service was great, their work was fast and accurate. I was out of there in 30minutes. Their shop looks clean and up to date which is nice. The mechanic's music taste is superb. I enjoyed listening to the music while I waited. Their prices are standard. I didn't think they were cheap but also not as expensive as other oil/lube-type shops. I would recommend this shop for an oil change. read more
