I'm giving them a 3, which is really a combination of 5 stars for their installation several years ago of a full HVAC system and hot water heater and 1 star for a recent service call. They gave me a 3 hour window for the service appointment 11-2. After the tech failed to appear one hour after that at 3 PM, I called to cancel. Of course the tech rolled up shortly thereafter, but we had to leave. We just can't commit a whole day to waiting around. After I posted my dissatisfaction in response to their follow-up survey, I called as requested. The person who answered told me that someone from management would call me back --- it never happened. I cannot recommend Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning based on my experience. I hired the company to perform a refrigerant leak search for my HVAC system and paid over $750 for the diagnostic service. According to the technician's diagnosis, the indoor evaporator coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. However, a subsequent licensed HVAC contractor discovered that the outdoor condenser originally tested by Presidential was not actually connected to my apartment. After identifying the correct condenser and testing the correct system, they found no leak in the evaporator coil. The HVAC problem was ultimately resolved by replacing the reversing valve, not the evaporator coil. Because the wrong outdoor unit was tested, I believe the diagnostic conclusions I paid for were not reliable. This resulted in significant delays, additional contractor expenses, and considerable time spent trying to determine the actual problem. I contacted Presidential directly and requested a refund for the diagnostic service, providing an explanation and supporting documentation, but did not receive a response. I understand that HVAC troubleshooting can be challenging, but correctly identifying which equipment serves the property is a fundamental first step before diagnosing or recommending replacement of major components. Some of the poor reviews are irrelevant - one is in Florida [!] and some crabby people just can't reach someone and there's no work but they're still going to lash out with a 1-star review. We have a two-zone system to cover our basement+first floor and separately the second floor and both failed, unbelievably, within a few days of each other while on a trip. Late morning on a Sunday [today] I googled emergency HVAC and saw all these 2 star companies and then I saw an impossibly high Google rating for Presidential Heating and that they don't charge extra for weekends. Ayite (fantastic) came out and fixed both systems and they were way more than reasonable. And now we have heat upstairs and downstairs! yaaaaaaaa. Our previous HVAC company got their scruples from the Sopranos while Presidential is a godsend. Ayite is phenomenal btw - friendly, respectful, happy guy and a very talented technician. Would give 0 stars if possible. Terrible Almost 1 hour late from window. 2 people showed up - the "supervisor" would not even introduce himself until I inquired. The tech proceeded to inquire why he was there - did not know. They proceed to inform me Refrigerant was low without explanation (Me not being in trade does not know what that means). They asked if I want replaced. I asked how much - Tech says "I don't know". He proceeds to ask the "supervisor" who also says "I don't know" They then told me it will be $575 for 1.5 lbs of refrigerant which I agreed to. However - I decided to research why it is low and the consensus is likely a leak. This information was never volunteered to me so I am asking why it was not discussed with me or informed to me and the only thing they were concerned was me to sign the agreement for the refrigerant placement (were quick to shove cell phone in face to sign). The "supervisor" got angry and got in my face saying I'm being rude. (Apparently they think its inappropriate or rude when you try to get more information about what is going on that you are paying for). So I got upset and I argued with the "supervisor" "how can you get upset at me for being upset that I was not given the whole picture/information but quick to ask me to sign and confirm the charge for the replacement?" Then this "Supervisor" proceeded to call the office and berate me and talk trash about me to the office and they packed up and left. Scam. Tried to sell our family a $3,000 gas boiler for $17,000+ and then an additional amount of $3,000+ to run the vent/flue/exhaust. I asked for an itemized bill, and they refused. The details on what they were charging for in the $17,000 quote was just a copy/paste of the item description for the actual boiler from the boiler company's website. Acting like it was all individual parts and pieces for the job to build a boiler from scratch. I asked for what the price per labor hour was and how they got to $14,000 for labor when they are replacing a boiler in a location that already has a boiler with a gas line run, the water piping run, and the metal (code) exhaust run? The guy, Juan, didn't have a real answer just "that's how much I figured it out to be." Show your work, bud. How did you "figure that out"? How much are parts? How much time to do a replacement and remove the old boiler? It's like a 2 foot by 3 foot box... once you disconnect it, its gonna take like a total of 15 mins to get it out of the basement into your truck. read more

For prompt, reliable service, look elsewhere. Very poor customer service. You can never reach someone who can answer your questions, schedule appointments, or give updates. The phone is answered by someone with no information or access, so you leave messages with them and someone else returns your call a day or two later. Our AC was broken and they dragged out the process of getting it repaired for ages just by making it so we could never get ahold of someone who was actually able to do anything. read more

I've never had so many technicians out to my house to fix the same problem. It started when I got a new heat pump in 2022. The thermostat couldn't communicate with it right after installation, so they ran a temporary wire. They never came to fix it. Then it stopped working again, and again, and again. The whole point of replacing my old AC was so that I wouldn't have to deal with this kind of thing. They weren't even the cheapest option. If I had to do it again, I definitely would not go with Presidential. read more

Our AC Unit failed on the hottest day of the decade. I called Presidential and use their automated Online AI system. That AI system worked extremely well and shifted me to a human. They had a great tech out to my location in a few hours. He was knowledgeable, polite, and efficient. The price was extremely fair. In less than a hour Metro Services HVAC fixed broken wire to furnace fan, added one pound R22 added; A/C works fine. I specifically told Presidential to send someone with R22, which they did not!! They came Saturday, said they'd be back on Monday. They didn't show up so I called Monday and Tuesday. Presidential's over priced estimate of $2950 to supply and install R22 TXV valve, recover R22 and reuse is jacked up and NEVER would have fixed my A/C. At first he said there was a leak in the line, then the line needed to be cleaned out, then the valve needed to be replaced. Presidential's technician was awful!! read more

Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning...where do I begin with this nightmare? Had an appointment set for Saturday, 10/12. wasn't given any time frame, no one showed up or called to let me know Had to reach back out again on Sunday, 10/13. Was told someone would come today. Didn't hear back until 5pm when someone showed up. Was told by technician that a specific part needed to be ordered, could not provide a price range at all "I have no idea", or a timeline. He said I would get a call in the morning to work out logistics. Trip charge was quoted at $49 prior to visit, but was sent an invoice l for $89. When I presented the prior quote to the technician he just said he "didn't know what to tell me" and didn't leave until it was paid in full, so what was I supposed to do? Had to reach out on my own at 11am the next day as no one reached out to me. Was then told that the photos the tech took weren't good enough and I would need to get better pictures for the ordering department to be able identify the part needed. Sent the picture over and was told it had a 3-5 day delivery. Different tech came out, installed new part and left. Turns out this was the wrong part needed because nothing changed or resolved the issue. Had to have yet another tech come out on a Sunday, confirmed the issue wasn't resolved and that a new part needed to be installed. Was charged $89 to have the tech come out to tell me the previous tech did the wrong thing. Had to have him call his manager to have additional charge waived. I also found out that the company was under new management which explains older positive reviews. Now on day 10 without a functional HVAC. Received an email on Monday with a quote for additional work needed. Didn't get a phone call to schedule or confirm, had to call on my own to check on the next steps. Decided against better judgement to proceed with new suggested fix since I've already sunk $350 into this. We have gone from a $258 fix to a $650 one at this point. This new quote didn't contain any fees waived, no good-faith effort to make this experience any less stressful on me. Wednesday came and went with no call or email regarding the status of the order, when they could come out, or if the part needed to be shipped...not a single update. Had to call back on my own on that Thursday to get an update. Visit 4 with the ordered part, 10/26: a new tech came and promptly told me that the wrong part was ordered. Had to wait until Monday again. Monday rolls around, and I don't get a call from anyone, I had to reach out on my own at 3:00 pm to see what the plan was. I was told that they did indeed order the wrong part initially, and have since ordered the correct one. I was also candidly told that the order was placed too late in the day to be next-day delivered, so I was going to have to wait a couple of days. Got a call that Thursday that the part came in and someone can come to install it Saturday, 11/2. Saturday rolls around, 11/2, 21 days since my first appointment. 3 weeks without a fully functional HVAC. Tech is here for over two hours, making multiple phone calls to a supervisor. Eventually he starts to head for the front door to tell me that everything is fixed and working fine. I had some doubts about that. I noticed he didn't check on the status of my original issue, the air not shutting off when the thermostat is turned off. So I double checked on that while he was here. Sure enough that issue persists. He heads back for the HVAC unit to reinspect the issue. After about another 45 minutes he tells me that the issue isn't anything related to the work they've done for the past three weeks, but is actually the motor of the air handler. He then shows me a $2,200 quote, which was the final straw for me. Told him no thank you, and I would be following up on Monday to conclude my commitment to the business. I had to stop the tech from leaving, as the $650 part he had installed was still in my system. He was going to just leave without removing this part which cost me $650 and in no way was the correct part or fix. Once he got it removed, he apologized for being told the wrong diagnosis by another tech and left. Called back on 11/4, 23 days since my first visit. Still no working system. I had already paid $350 for the prior fix that didn't work, which was going to be rolled into the total cost of the $650 repair, so that was going to need to be refunded. After calling another company, they determined that the fix was indeed something that one of the first techs at Presidential diagnosed, but must not have installed properly. I called Presidential for a quote and a new tech, Daniel came out. He was by far the most helpful tech to come out and probably would've saved me time and money if I got him first. Diagnosed the issue and when the office sent me the quote, it was $200 higher than the quote for the same part weeks prior. I went with another company and now everything is working fine! read more

Salesman Juan was self righteous and condescending to me, unwilling to provide details on new Daikin Air Conditioning system replacing Carrier system installed by Presidential 11 years ago at my townhouse. He has no Interpersonal Skills and needs to return to service tech position he held previously. It took six hours for Presidential to answer my call when the Air Conditioner would not come on during the hottest day of 2025. It wasn't until the workers completed the new Air Conditioning installation the next day that I saw the new unit was Twice as big as the existing Carrier unit AND that Presidential replaced my Heating System - NEVER discussed or mentioned by Juan! read more

I first communicated with Presidential by the "chat" line platform on their website. I summarized the issue, gave them my personal contact information, and was told someone would get back to me in 24 hours. No communication followed. I contacted them and I was told they have many "platforms" and could not find my communication. I gave them a second chance, regrettably. The tech came out, I paid for the diagnostic. He said someone would get back to me with an estimate. I asked if he already had prepared the estimate. He had. So I signed it then and there with the promise I would quickly get an appointment for the repair. No call, again. I understand Presidential was once privately owned and a great company. It is a corporate hot mess with too many electronic platforms and no follow up. Ironically, at a rental house out of state, I had a diagnostic and a whole new air conditioning system installed while I got nothing accomplished with Presidential. So I told Presidential to forget it. The area is full of HVAC companies. Avoid this company. They will waste your time. Service is non existent. read more

The work done by Edenilson Ramirez was just sloppy. Not only did he have an attitude problem acting like he's high and mighty, he was overall unprofessional. The first time he came to quote us he refused to read the information we provided on what initial investigation we did to give him context and scoffed like he didn't need to know. Then halfway through the diagnosis he said we needed to "replace the thermostat because its broken" when it was just turned off. Later he took it back and said we just needed to replace the pressure switch. The second time he came to do the replacement he had the same attitude problem and was also talking loudly on the phone during the install. When he was done he left all the old wiring messily outside our house on the ground without any care to get rid of it (see image attached). After his services were done both times he lingered by the house in the car for 20 minutes or more for who knows why. Overall disappointed with the experience and how unprofessional the technician was. read more

I just bought a new Carrier Greenspeed Heat Pump & Gas Furnace from Presidential. This contractor can't be trusted in any aspect of sales, delivery and installation. When I began my contractor selection process, I handed all eight contractors's a paper that detailed the scope of work and the performance criteria for the systems I'm evaluated. On this list was the requirement to have the outdoor unit mounted on a platform attached to my concrete house foundation. The first couple of contracts adjustment I got from Presidential, the foundation mounted platform was included. When I was ready to sign a contract with Presidential there was a flurry of contract adjustments made because of minor changes, it was during this time that the platform was dropped from the contract unbeknown to me. I signed the contract and it was my mistake for not catching the dropped platform. If this contract issue was the only problem, so be it, but there were many "problems" throughout the installation. There were issues such as not being installed in keeping the Carrier Installation Manual and the Building Code. To name a few, the outdoor unit is mounted to close to the house (is 16", Manual requires 24"), electrical wires were just laid on top of the main ventilation duct, flue pipe was not insulated in the exterior space, missing sealing around humidifier and Merv filter, and the list goes on. The system failed both the WSSC and Montgomery County Building permit inspections. Carrier's new equipment arrived in what I considered damaged condition. The outdoor unit is a large heat pump with a large area of finned air/coolant heat exchanger. This unit came with damaged areas of this finned surface. I pointed this out to Presidential and was told this is how the unit comes from the factory. I am taking this issue up with Carrier. Also, the screws holding the exterior panels in place were not screwed in all the way or were crooked. There was even one screw that was old and rusted. I documented everything with photographs. Just as another word of caution, I used a spreadsheet to evaluate the different contractor's quotes, I was able to decipher the innovative way Presidential accounted for rebates and Federal Tax Credit and listing Net Investment (which were highlighted on the contract), which is not what you owe Presidential. One has to add these amounts to the net investment to arrive at what you owe Presidential. Buyer Beware! read more

I'm renting a townhouse managed by PMI Capital Region. This property management company contracts with Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. Although I was told to report leaks and of course not wanting any property damage, I called in a maintenance request. See pic of leaking unit. PMI Capital Region uses Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. and I received a call from Gena at Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc who gave me instructions for my thermostat which were confusing and obviously misleading because ultimately it lead to me being charged a maintenance fee by PMI Capital Region which I should have seen coming because again, this is what both PMI and their contractors like Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc do to tenants: They'd rather charge you a fee than give you clear trouble shooting information to avoid a visit because they can then blame the problem on the tenant and charge them a fee for the visit so win win for them. It's a shady cycle and even as a lifelong renter in both Maryland and NYC, I wish someone had warned me about this because I've never experienced anything like this before. When I do become a homeowner, or even a landlord I will not hire a company that cheats renters. read more

I would not recommend using Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning. In my opinion they are either: (1) Incompetent - unable to properly diagnose a furnace problem or (2) Dishonest - recommending repairs that are not needed I live in a newer townhome with a Carrier HVAC system that is 2 years old. My furnace had shut off so I checked Angi's list and found Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning as a top rated company. I contacted them and they promptly sent our a technician. The technician was professional, friendly and appeared to do a thorough check of my furnace. He diagnosed the problem as a cracked heat exchanger and a failing blower motor. He guessed that even if the parts were covered under warranty, that the labor for repairs would be thousands of dollars and recommended I consider replacing the entire 2 year old furnace with a new one. After he left the only person to follow up with me from Presidential was a sales person looking to sell me a new furnace. No one ever followed up to provide estimates for repairs. Because I did not trust the diagnosis with so many serious issues on 2 year old furnace, I called another HVAC company (Michael & Sons) to get a second opinion. They sent out their tech who also did a thorough inspection and diagnosis of my HVAC system. He found that the blower motor was failing and was the problem, but he did not find any cracks on my heat exchanger and said it was fine. He did not recommend replacing the furnace. He provided me with an estimate on the spot for repairs. I agreed to the repair. They followed up with me to let me know the part was covered under warranty and once it arrived the scheduled the repair that same day. Michael and Sons did an excellent job, repaired it quickly and at a fair price. I never felt that they were trying to overcharge me for things I did not need. I do not plan to ever use Presidential Heating & Air Conditioning again. read more

This past week I had another amazing experience with Presidential because our air compressor stopped working. Larry came by, checked out the system and gave us our options. Our system was old and on its last limb (we had a similar scenario last year), so this year we elected to replace the outdoor unit. We got an absolutely amazing deal on a gently used Carrier unit and the team came by the following day to install the system. He took time to answer all of our (many) questions and we could both tell he genuinely has a passion for the business and helping his customers. After installation, he actively followed up to ensure we were all set! I know we would have paid significantly more for a system (especially during a heat wave) and I'm so grateful for the very fair pricing and positive experience we had. Presidential wasn't the lowest price or best warranty but Vance was very knowledgeable and was able to explain better than the others. I went with presidential because I felt comfortable with the unit he offered out the the four choices he gave. The day of install I was expecting a bunch of snot nosed kids but got a very nice older gentleman that came in and took charge and all knew their job well. Sweltering again for nearly a week, advised to go to the hospital , hopefully Tommy, will be successful. A/C went out unexpectedly and heat was climbing on a Friday evening. Had sensitive seniors in the home with health concerns as well as young children. House had reached 80 degrees and was very uncomfortable. Called 3 other places that either didn't answer or wouldn't come until Monday. They were the only place willing to do an emergency repair and were here within 20 minutes. They fixed the part and A/C was back on in under an hour. I had a complicated heating problem and if it weren't for the diligent efforts of the Presidential Service Personnel I would probably still have the same problem. I love the way that Juan approached the problem and was not satisfied until the job was completed and done correctly. After a few experiences with other companies I returned to Presidential and am really pleased that I did. They may be a bit more expensive but it certainly is worth it. I was a customer of Presidential for a long time because they used to be good. Now they just have very high prices and terrible service. Never again. Two weeks ago, I called to get my thermostat repaired or replaced on my heat pump system with gas furnace backup. I was clear that the system was working but the thermostat was not letting me adjust the heat pump set temperature. They sent out a technician the following week who said he was not informed the problem was the thermostat, and that he was told the heat pump was broken. He seemed fairly incompetent. He said he didn't have the equipment or the manual for the thermostat, and proceeded to fiddle with it for 20 minutes and got nowhere. He didn't even bother looking up how to use it. He then informed that he could replace it and gave a rough quote of between $800 and $1,200! He billed me for the service visit for which he was unprepared, not capable, and did nothing useful other than try to sell me a new thermostat. After his visit I called the company to complain, and they said they would not charge me for a replacement thermostat without a signed proposal. (So nice of them...) They shortly sent me an email with a proposal to replace the thermostat for $1,136.68! This sounded insane. So I went online and found an updated but used thermostat for the same Carrier system which I bought for $100 (shipping included). I unplugged the old thermostat and plugged in the new one (plug-and-play), and the system is up and running good as new. Long story short, if you want terrible service and want to pay sky-high prices, be my guest. I've had enough. read more

My emergency weekend call was returned within 20 minutes and a repairman arrived 4 hours later. I had received a text message with the repairman Mark's photo and eta, which was really helpful from a customer service perspective. Mark was pleasant and explained everything -- I would have provided miserable customer service if I had to work in that heat, but he was incredibly professional and in a good mood the whole time. What a great guy. I felt the price was fair, given the conditions that Mark had to work in (though admittedly I didn't price check against other companies). I requested basic service through Angie's List and the inspection was thorough with the details relayed professionally and in writing. An invoice was sent immediately with details of the visit and reasonable maintenance suggestions. the inspector found some relatively minor issues on the 13 year old unit and followed up professionally and promptly for a reasonable price. An additional item was found after the inspection by my tenant and they addressed it quickly at no charge. Gena Howard relayed the details clearly, handling mine and my tenant's needs promptly with immediate response via phone and email. I had a lot of trepidation before engaging a "new" HVAC company but I am very pleased at PHAC's skills and ability to perform sound customer service. read more

If you have an HVAC emergency, call Presidential! Our AC started turning on and off for short periods of time in the middle of the night, and the temperatures these days are around 100 - not good. We called Presidential shortly after it opened the next morning (a Saturday), and Gena returned my call promptly, took all my information, and kept me updated. Within the hour, Tommy Gray arrived. Tommy is no doubt an expert. He was also friendly and very informative. He identified the problem within minutes. Thirty minutes later, Tommy was done and the AC was running again. I can't speak highly enough of everyone. My only complaint is the price. Presidential charged around $250 just for a capacitor that is normally well under $100. The total for everything was around $500. If it wasn't for the service and speed, the cost would have resulted in less stars. read more

Called Presidential to come in to service my HVAC to ensure the A/C was working properly. They were a little busy so the next appointment wasn't until a week and a half later. Since working from home, my schedule is pretty open. I was able to get an appointment at 7am. The day before the appointment, Presidential sent me an e-mail and text message asking me to confirm the appointment. On the morning of, I got another text saying the technician was on their way. The technician, Victor, was extremely pleasant to work with. He wore a mask, gloves, and even shoe booties to help alleviate any concerns during COVID-19. After the appointment, Victor also explained how Presidential offered a service they will come out twice a year to service the heater and the A/C. And honestly, he was not trying to upsell me anything, but definitely worth considering down the road. The whole appointment took about 45 minutes. They take credit cards (who doesn't at this point). Overall, it was a great experience and will be using them again to have my heater serviced. read more

Our central air system broke down, right before the biggest heat wave! Presidential replaced it with Carrier Infinity furnace and AC. The new system works great! Very quite, you can hardly hear it. My 22 year old TRANE Heat Pump stopped working in 96 degree heat. I called their office in the AM and a technician arrived by 1:15pm the same day. I was told that there will be charge of $89 plus $15 to arrive and diagnose the problem. The technician came at 1:15pm and diagnosis within 15 minutes and changed the Capacitor. The Heat Pump started working again. Since it is an old system it would need to be replaced soon. The work concluded after 35 minutes he told me that I owe $375 for today's visit. I inquired the reason for the high price and he showed me the bill on his iPad - that included $269 for the Universal Capacitor (Retail $65-$70). I mentioned to the office lady that the $269 for capacitor seems very high - more like a double charging of labor ($80 + $15 + the excess over $65 Retail for the part). Presidential is way overpriced. I replaced my Amana PTAC (Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner). Presidential quoted a price of about $1,700 which they claimed included a discount of $200 because I had an annual contract with them. I went online and found the same PTAC for $800, less than half the Presidential quote. My son-in-law installed the unit in half an hour. Next my furnace went. I replaced furnace and air conditioner for $4,000 less than Presidential quoted. Then Presidential came out for annual service in the fall. I asked the service man the cost. He said it was covered under my contract and I assumed from that response that I was covered under old contract. I was then charged $300 in January and told that included service in the fall. I cancelled contract and will not deal with them again. read more

I've never had a bad experience with Presidential in 10 years. Jack just came out and diagnosed our humidifier problem, fixed it on the spot. Efficient, on time, pleasant, knowledgeable folks. I used them at two different properties and they are great. read more

Can't really judge the workmanship since not my field, but technicians who handled installation were pleasant, professional and left the place as neat as they found it. The five stars goes to Robin, who competently managed every step of the process, including arranging multiple appointments for approval permits from the various government and other agencies involved.
