They've lost some of their magic. Don't get me wrong. It's a very good burger. But I remember when they were just starting out, using temporary space in other bars and restaurants. Back then the burger (the actual patty) was AMAZING. I talked to the cook (may have been the owner) and heard all about the special beef blend and how they cooked it. It was thin, a little crunchy, and just amazing. Now it's just a good burger. I don't know if they changed the recipe or some of the cooks didn't get the memo on how to cook them. I had one today expecting world-shattering burger greatness like a few years ago. It was really good but not much different from a good burger you could get anywhere else. If you're reading this review you're likely wondering if you should eat Preston's soon (as soon as now, maybe?!). You should. My wife and I got the pastrami bacon burger, a fried chicken sandwich, an order of fries with green goddess sauce and an order of fries with comeback sauce. I will confess I am a sucker for places that seem to have no only a variety of sauces but also they seem to be made in house, both sauces were so good. The chicken sandwich was so crunchy but not dry, the burger was delightful and balanced well with the pickles on there and the pastrami bacon was unique and adds a nice change up to "just" bacon on a burger. Excellent experience dining in last night! Great gluten free options! Fresh hot food! The staff was kind and attentive and took time to answer all questions! To start off the staff isn't the nicest. You order and pay by QR code at the table, with a very vague menu. We ordered two burgers with fries and two drinks; very overpriced. We weren't brought our drinks or told that we had to go get our own. The staff rudely sat our food down. The burgers themselves were decent, but the sauces were terrible. The cheese sauce on the fries is plastic cheese. The classic bbq sauce is terrible and the special sauce smells and tastes like body odor. To top it off, the power flickered a couple times and then went out while we were eating. This is obviously not the staffs fault, but it was weird. Food was pretty good. Tasty burger, but definitely on the small side. Probably could have eaten two. Slaw was really interesting -- shredded fennel, soaked in vinegar and beet juice. Quite good, but definitely surprising and half our party wouldn't try it because of how strong it smelled. Service was really rough, extraordinarily slow for a place that is basically fast casual, with many versions of the same thing. Took over an hour to order, wait and eat. Forget adding more fries, a 2nd beverage or a desert. They'd do well to keep the patties grilling during the dinner rush, the same way Cane's throws down more chicken when people open the door. Welcome back, Preston's! I will say it - Preston's is the best burger in Columbus. That fresh smash burger, soft bun, special sauce, and crunch from pickles and veggies are perfect. The single is always a classic but you can upgrade to a pastrami burger or the spicy version. With the new location, Preston's expanded their menu to include chicken! They have a killer chicken sandwich but also tenders and nuggets. I am a little disappointed the onion petals and cheese curds did not make it to the North Market location, but I am still hopeful. read more

What a nice addition to Clintonville! We went to check out their new spot and it did not disappoint. We tried almost everything on the menu. Lol The wings, the burger(get the double), tha choppa, and those incredible pimento bites! We completely forgot about the mushrooms but we will get those next time. I've wanted to go here every since they opened. I was so happy to step back into the North Market for the first time since March. I've really missed it! Anyway, the purpose in my visit was to go to Preston's Burgers. It's located on the northeast section of the building. There's an attached parking lot for a minimum fee, and it's easy to get in and out. I ordered the single Pastrami Bacon Burger and Fries. That burger is in my list of top burgers in Columbus. It was really good. I tasted my husband's Spicy Boi, tasty. The fries are nothing special. Biscuits are good. I'll be going back next week to try the chicken. read more

Wowww! Hubby and I both agree - new favorite burger spot. I had the Spicy Boi which was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy with pepper jelly, pimento cheese, pickles, and red onion. My husband had the Mushroom and Swiss which he also enjoyed. The fries were a little salty but crispy and still very good. Preston's has great burgers but don't sleep on the chicken sandwich! The fried chicken is drizzled with infused honey then topped with lemon thyme mayo, shaved onion, red cabbage, house pickle. SO MUCH FLAVOR. The buns are super soft (which I think is very important for a good sandwich) and everything works so well together. read more

Well this wasn't what I expected and not in a good way. When I heard Preston's had moved to Woodlands and saw the great reviews I knew I needed to try it! However, the experience started off sour right away. We decided to go for dinner last night, but forgot to take Woodland's volleyball league into account - the parking lot was completely full and they had an employee directing traffic to another lot down the street. When we got inside Woodlands wasn't too crowded since everyone was out playing volleyball. So we sat at the bar, but it took almost 15 minutes for the bartenders to even acknowledge us even though we were the only ones sitting there. You order food at the bar here, you'll have to ask for a Preston's menu. I decided to go with the Preston's double and I'm glad I did because these are the thinnest burgers you'll ever see. They were far from juicy but they did have a lot of flavor. Note, fries do not come with the burger, you have to order them separately and they cost $4. The fries were crispy and you actually get a good amount. The biggest take away I had from this meal though was that everything was SO SALTY! It was hard to even finish it because of the amount of salt, and I love salty foods but this was too much for me. I finished the burger but only made it halfway through the fries. I've never had a salty burger before so this was definitely a first. I guess it works out for the bar though cause then you order more drinks. I wouldn't recommend this as a go to place. Maybe stop in for happy hour since Woodlands has some decent specials on drinks, but make sure to stay away during volleyball season. read more

My husband and I had a quick date night at Preston's tonight before the area got busy with all the festivities taking place this weekend! Having tried the Pimento Cheese Dumplings a while ago, I was on a mission to have a second go round! They did not disappoint! Love the dipping sauce that comes with it. Went to Preston's last night for the first time. Quite a few customers for an early dinner around 5:00. Burgers and fries all around in our group, everyone agreed best burger they had had in awhile. Heard a lot about Preston's and wanted to try it, especially since I read they offer gluten free options. Gathered three friends and off we went. We were surprised by how small the dining room is. We were also wondering about the ordering and seating process, as well as the couple ahead of us, but we figured it out. We ordered, luckily a table opened up, and we sat to wait. We had three separate orders, and we all ordered in sequence. But that's not how the food was brought out, and we noticed people who ordered ahead and behind our group get their food while our orders were brought out piecemeal. Now the burgers. One of the four burgers was spot on. The Tom's, according to the menu, has barbecue sauce but came with aioli, which is not an ingredient listed on the menu. That addition in combination with the barbecue sauce just didn't work. The regular classic double came as listed on the menu. But, my friend asked if they could add pimento cheese, which is available, instead of the regular cheese. He was told no, the burger comes as listed on the menu. What restaurant doesn't let you change the cheese? The final classic double was ordered with the gluten free bun and no onion. It took the longest to get to our table. First thing we noticed is it was swimming in grease, to the point a napkin was put under it and grease was soaked up from the bottom bun with another napkin. None of the other burgers were like that. Second, despite being ordered without onions, it came with onions. So, lets spend five minutes picking those off. I also wasn't a fan of the aioli on the burger. On the upside, the gluten free bun was the best I've ever had, despite the grease. The fries were very good, fresh, hot, and crispy. Drinks are sparse, a few bottled carbonated soft drinks, no fountain drinks, water, and I thought I saw some beers (?), though nothing I recognized, but we're not drinkers. Finally, the banana pudding. I grew up with southern style banana pudding. Maybe this is a northern take on it, but it falls short. I wouldn't call it banana pudding. I don't know what I would compare it to, but not banana pudding. Cost. Well, for basically a fast casual, if that, burger joint, I think it's expensive. A classic double is $11.00. With the gluten free bun it's $12.00 ($1.00 for a gluten free bun is a great price). Fries are $3.00. A glass bottle soft drink is $1.86. The banana pudding was $6.00. My order, with a 15% tip, was almost $28.00 with tax. The tip, yeah it's optional, but the POS system prepopulates percentages to choose from, or you can bypass those and enter a dollar amount. Still, for a restaurant that the extent of a server is the person who brings your food to you the whole tip thing is just odd. After all, there are other burger joints that do the same thing and they don't ask for tips. But I repeat, tipping is optional. Overall, the experience was OK, but with the plethora of burger joints in Columbus and the surrounding area, and I'm not including fast food, we won't make the 20 minute drive to revisit Preston's again. read more

This burger joint was fantastic. The owner is from North Carolina, which has its own way of making burgers. News to me, but I'm sold. Instead of plain American cheese, it was some kind of awesome pimento cheese. The cheese hush puppies were out of this world. The chicken sandwich was equally delicious. WOW! Yes, if you are like me and keep hearing about Preston's non-stop, you NEED to try this place out! To be honest, I have no idea what took me so long given that burgers are my absolute favorite meal! I had been hearing about Preston's for a few years and I believe they've won a few contests. I looked them up at one point but got confused because it's not an actual "restaurant." However, I was wanting to grab a drink with some friends and started looking for places in the Grandview area. I looked up Woodlands Tavern and saw that they have Preston's there. I was sold! We headed in on a weeknight and it was SUPER loud. So loud that we couldn't handle it and had to leave. We went to Byrnes, but knew we'd have to get back to Woodlands since we HAD to try these burgers. Luckily, by the time we got back to Woodlands, the live music had stopped and the crowd had died down. I made a bee-line to the ordering window at Preston's. Normally, I'm picky about what's on my burger, but I was so dang hungry, I just ordered a single with fries and didn't even think about it. That's the best advice I can give...trust the compilation that they have! It's perfection for a reason! Our burgers and fries came out within 5-10 mins and were brought straight to our table. I straight up DEVOURED that burger! Like I didn't even want to talk to my friends because I was so busy just enjoying this moment with myself and this delectable burger! All of the flavors combine into a jam-packed flavor-filled fiesta! Delicious American cheese, toasted crispy bun, shredded lettuce, a special sauce that just adds a special kick! There may have been a tomato and/or pickles in there. To be honest, I wasted no time fully investigating the burger. It was just perfect and I think the sauce is really what makes it extra special. The fries were good too, but could use a little more seasoning. But let's be honest, I was here for the burger! I already cannot wait to head back here soon! Great spot for both gluten free and gluten eaters! Neither gluten free nor gluten containing chicken tenders were greasy, and were perfectly crispy. The celiac member of my party had no reaction. Fries were good as well. The special sauce was great with the tenders. The bathroom and restaurant as a whole was new and clean. It has options to order and pay from your phone without downloading an app, and to walk up and order, which is great for shy people. Service was quick and the employees were friendly. It took me way to long to get to Preston's! But it was definitely worth the wait! Hands down some of the best chicken tenders I've ever had AND they were gluten free! Almost everything (not the biscuits) can be made gluten free. And their sauce selection is excellent...try the Green Goddess on the fries (yum, they are SO good), you won't be disappointed! Reasonably priced, something for everyone, they even have a Mushroom burger for those that don't eat meat! The staff is SO friendly and they even gave me a free pudding because I had to wait a little bit longer than planned for my tenders! This review is for the food truck, not the setup at Woodland's (or does the truck move from Woodland's- not sure of the situation.) Baby K wanted a burger and fries (which means fries, and some bun, and a lot of ketchup.) I had heard of Preston's, and been to Seventh Son, and saw the truck there so I made a quick turn and we ate there. (I had a beer and she had a water, both good, but not part of this review.) The truck has a small menu, possibly different from the one at Woodland's? I got a double, and plain fries (would have tried salt and vinegar if the primary customer were not a toddler.) Also some of the daily special pudding: cinnamon toast crunch. No line, a few minutes wait, and: an amazing burger, and amazing fries. The burgers were big and crispy and tasty, on an excellent bun, with great toppings. A bit messy to eat, but the sleeve they put them in handles that pretty well. The fries were a big order, thick and very crispy and browned but with a nice soft interior. I would call them perfect fries, but everyone likes different styles. I can certainly appreciate good shoestring fries and curly fries, and these are not those, but are damn good standard-shape fries. They come with a creamy sauce with green flecks. Baby K is picky, but once she tried that she preferred it to "red sauce" (ketchup.) I liked it too, though it could have been slightly thicker for maximum dippability. I mean, come on, if you can please both adults and toddlers with the same food, you're winning. This is good stuff. Nothing fancy or froo-froo, just really good, straightforward burgers and fries. Compare this, and the whole experience, to my Shake Shack visit last week. Faster service, better food, similar pricing. Not overhyped, though Preston's gets a lot of love locally. Just excellent food. Worth a wait, though we had none except for the actual cooking (and that was quicker than Shake Shack.) Oh, the pudding? It was pretty darn good too. No chunks of cereal, as I'd expected; just creamy brown pudding with the flavor of cinnamon toast crunch cereal, topped with some real whipped cream. We both liked it, too. Go here. Great burgers! Great fries and the chicken tenders were a hit too. My wife had a classic and I tried the spicy boi we both enjoyed them. The vinegar slaw worked well with the spicy boi. Let's dive in. Wanted to see how good their cheeseburger was. I ordered their Classic Double Cheeseburger. Regular is $7, Double is $10. It does not come with fries. That's extra. Had to have fries, right? Right. I also ordered 4 chicken tenders. Their sauces were very good. Spicy BBQ, and their burger sauce were great. So, those three things, without a drink came to about $19.50 after tax....I will admit, the burger did taste great...now, you have to ask, "is one double cheeseburger worth $10??...I do like that it's in the North Market. Can walk around and easily entertain yourself while your food is being prepared. Just under 10 minutes...I would eat here again. Get a couple different single cheeseburgers. We had a terrible experience at Preston's. As a restaurant that advertises being gluten free you would think they would be more sensitive to dietary issues. We went to place our orders only to find out that gluten free hot dog buns were not available and that all buns contain dairy. Due to several other dietary restrictions and their very unhelpful and impatient staff I opted not to place an order for myself and my daughter but was out to dinner with extended family. I thought I had the perfect solution so that we could still spend time with family, to get takeout from a restaurant next door. When I came back with our food, one of their staff members asked us to leave. I was made to leave my family and one of my children with the extended family. I will never be back. read more
