So glad that Pretty Good Advice has opened a third location! Healthy vegetarian and VEGAN options! Today I tried the Vegan Shaved Brussels Sprout and Lemon salad. I opted for dressing on the side. It's a really nice Preserved Meyer Lemon Dressing. Also got the Pretty Good Vegan Burger, which could be named a Really Great Vegan Burger. It is a really good vegan burger. Looks like they will be getting a vegan soft serve tomorrow, or if not tomorrow, very soon. I forgot to take pics. Friendly service. Shaded outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. I was having dinner with my mom and uncle. She picked up Ryan's Lobstah Roll for me because they didn't make any vegan food, and she knew I was curious about it. The bread was great, and the mushrooms had a nice flavor, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me as a lobster roll. I'm such a stickler for descriptions. If they called it a mushroom sandwich, I'd probably give it a 5-star rating, but since it's described as a "lobstah roll" and says "served cold like a classic Boston lobster roll," the comparison to a traditional lobster roll stuck in my mind. I've actually made vegan versions of crab and lobster rolls, and they hit a lot more in my opinion. That said, as a mushroom lover, I still enjoyed the sandwich. I'm looking forward to trying more things like the Spicy Ain't Chick'n Sandwich, Pretty Good Potato Chips, and Pomegranate Hibiscus Palmer. read more

We came here on a weekend afternoon and there weren't a ton of people but the food still took a little bit because it was freshly prepared. I had the Cali Ranch (veggie black bean) burger and also a side of chia pudding. The burger was really good and sizable and it also had avocado. I really liked the sauces and the burger itself. The chia coconut pudding was a little bit of a miss though. The texture was a little bit off and clumpy compared to most chia puddings I've had. Overall, the food seems solid and I would come back the next time I'm in town. read more

I saw this place a couple weeks before they opened and was super intrigued by their menu-- so when I was on a walk by campus and saw they opened I had to give it a try! There's plenty of seating inside and even an outdoor area if thats more your vibe. There were a handful of others coming and going during my visit-- mostly takeout. Staff were friendly and offered recommendations as it look me a while to decide. It was pretty warm out when I went so I opted for the pomegranate lemonade and shared the kale and golden beet salad and the high horse sandwich. (At the time I went there was a promo for a $2 drink when a sandwich and side was ordered.) The sandwich was really tasty! I loved each bit and the creamy sauce just made the experience. The salad had a light vinaigrette but the kumquats and beets brightened up the kale. Both were good but I think the sandwich was my favorite out of everything I tried. Would definitely come back to try some of their other menu items. read more

I live relatively close to the area that this place is in and it resulted in me passing it a fair number of times before its grand opening, so I was surprised to see it fully open one day when I was dropping off a package and thought I'd stop by and see what it was about. I wasn't entirely sure what kind of food I was predicting that "Pretty Good Advice" was going to have when I first saw it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a vegan/vegetarian place with affordable prices (I'm neither vegan or vegetarian, but I have a couple of friends who are so it's always nice to have more options to pick from). It is insanely rare to see a place sell drinks that are less than six dollars, and the meals on their menu looked decent for something that's less than fifteen dollars. I had already eaten lunch, so I decided to just get the Tangerine Creamsicle soft serve out of curiosity over what it'd be like as I had never seen that flavor before. The man serving me was very friendly and helpful, and the soft serve came out quickly. As for the flavor of the soft serve, it was much more tangy than sweet/creamy (though still fairly creamy), which was also another pleasant surprise. Overall, a nice experience and a welcome addition to Downtown San Jose. I look forward to trying out more of their menu, with or without my vegetarian/vegan friends. read more

This vegetarian/vegan spot is located right across from San Jose State with street parking in the area. There's a decent amount of seating inside. The service was good and the workers were friendly. I ordered the Ryan's Lobstah Roll, iced Coconut caramel coffee and mandarin lemonade. The lobstah roll was filling and was a decent size. Instead of lobster it had roasted oyster, porcini mushrooms, artichokes, Old Bay seasoning chives, meyer lemon, in a toasted french roll. It was delicious and everything went well together especially the sauce that was with it. The mandarin lemonade was refreshing and different. I went here for an early dinner, and the food was so good! I had been to the Soquel location previously, and I was excited to try the new location opening in San Jose. I got the cheeseburger, and the ingredients were super fresh. For dessert, I tried the strawberry vanilla soft serve--and it was delicious. The layout is also super spacious, and there's plenty of seating as well. I will definitely be back soon! read more

The food here offers a pretty wide variety. I enjoyed the salad with peanut sauce and can't wait to try the other items. I asked for more dressing since it's a bit small compared to the amount of salad, but other than that, I loved it! I am baffled by the reviews for this place vs my experience (and my coworkers). We got two salads and an egg sandwich as take out. My specific order was a mandarin salad. There were no mandarins, all of the cabbage was bitter, and the dressing was inedible. Without a dressing, it was just dry and bitter. I ended up not eating lunch that day. The coworker that got the sandwich said it was so small she was still hungry and my other coworker said 'thumbs down'. Just unfortunate. After this experience I would say pretty good advice does not have pretty good food. Maybe I'm just a hangry meat eater, but I really don't think so. Since this place is near my work I may give it one more try and select something people have said they liked. I'll update accordingly because I do hope the best and like that there is the potential for a healthy option nearby. read more

The five stars is just for the orange beet cubes in the kale salad. The cubes were more like mellowed peaches, with less of the taste that comes from prepping beets at home. The beets made this salad better than the one from Chick-fil-A. However, the Chick-fil-A kale was sliced a lot thinner than the Good Advice kale - this made the air pockets in the Chick-fila-A kale a lot smaller, and more numerous than Good Advice - And having more tiny air pockets helps the salad dressing cling better to the Chick-fil-A kale. With the Good Advice kale, the salad dressing was draining thru the kale, and collecting in puddles at the bottom of the bowl. After eating the Good Advice kale, I was able to go to the grocery store later that night to buy my own kale. I sliced the kale a lot thinner, and tried to mix salad dressing into it. This time, there was a lot more cling to the store bought kale, and the taste was much improved over the Good Advice kale. Though there was more bitterness with the thinly sliced kale, the increased cling from the dressing helped to offset it. The fennel from the Goodtime Bar was deeper and more pungent than the Good Advice fennel. I think there was an extra zing thing missing, which the fennel, cheese, and almonds did not cover for. One more thing that is worth mentioning, is that the outdoor seating which was there back when Togo's Sandwiches occupied this space; this outdoor space is reactivated again with the opening of Good Advice. This outdoor seating us one of the best in all of downtown San Jose, because of how it is balconied to be secure, protected from the afternoon sun, and helped by convection currents which cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. Sheldon Cooper from the "Big Bang Theory" would insist on using the seating here. read more

The restaurant was small but there were enough seats for people who were waiting for their orders. I was able to order and receive my food in just a couple of minutes despite it being lunchtime. I ordered the Big Kimmy, which is essentially an egg sandwich with vegan kimchi and mayo. It looked small, but it turned out to also be very filling. The egg tasted good, and the kimchi was both sour and slightly spicy. The mayo helped enhance the flavors. Overall, the sandwich tasted way better than I previously expected. This place just opened. I personally have been waiting for this place to open having heard about it for quite sometime by now. They really did not disappoint! I ate here twice already and their food is excellent! My favorite is their "lobster" roll ($12). I am impressed at how they can capture the flavors of a traditional lobster roll using mushrooms and artichoke, old bay seasoning, and lemon. The sandwich itself is pretty hefty (shared the sandwich with my partner and both of us were full with just half the sandwich!). I actually like their version better than the real thing! Another thing I love is their avocado toast ($9). It is a simple avocado toast, but the English muffin (?) they use gave a nice crisp and chewiness that mesh well with the avocado chunks! They also seasoned this with meyer lemon zest, and a dash of salt, detectable but not overly so that it overpowers the entire thing. And of course, the drinks! Mandarin lemonade and pomegranate palmer are my go to! The mandarin lemonade got my vote slightly more. Service was quick and neat (the toast and rolls were packaged nicely). And there's plenty of seatings if one wanted to eat in. All-in-all, I'm impressed! I'm not even a vegan/vegetarian, but I hope they stay because they do serve good food and their prices are very much reasonable! read more

The food at this restaurant is as good as you will find anywhere for fast Vegetarian/vegan. I had the tofu Bahn Mi sandwich--- and it was excellent. We also tried the Pesto. Breakfast sandwich and some overnight oats. The food tastes like it was made with love. The overnight oats was like a dessert. So delicious. Can't wait to go back. Service was attentive and real. I was really looking forward to my first visit, but unfortunately the meal missed the mark. I ordered the Sunrise Tostada and the hummus. The egg patty in the tostada was very dry and stiff, which made it hard to enjoy -- I was expecting something more like the hot scrambled eggs served at Egghead on First Street. The avocado on the side also wasn't very ripe or mashed, so I had to prepare it myself before adding it to the tostada. The hummus was another disappointment, as it was overwhelmed by oil, which made it hard to taste the actual hummus. The highlight of the meal, though, was the refried beans in the tostada -- they were warm, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the fresh tostada shell. I genuinely want this place to succeed, so I'm willing to give it another try. I hope they consider adjusting how they prepare their eggs, because the concept of the dish is great -- it just needs a little more care in execution. read more

Came here for brunch before a play and it was ok /: Didn't hate it or anything but the sandwiches at the Soquel and Santa Cruz locations are so much better in my opinion. Especially the breakfast sandwiches. I found the Mike's deluxe in sj to be kind of monotonous without the hash brown texture and my parents were disappointed with their mushroom roll and bahn mi too. Idk like I said it wasn't bad but the other location is so fire and I was ready to get my usual so this ended up being really disappointing. I was hella hyping it up to my family and they were all like ehhhhh. The fact that it's right by sjsu is cool though. read more

I wanted to like my apple & brie sandwich but just can't. Couldn't even pick it up without if falling all over let alone biting into it. I took most of the lettuce off. The stuff they call "brie" is HORRIBLE & glad I put the mustard seeds on the side. Pretty much need to take a shower when you finish. I was also surprise at how slow it took them to get my order up since there had been nobody ahead of me when I ordered & only 1 online order as I waited. I like theres another vegan eatery in downtown. This is a relief to have something new. I wasnt to crazy about my "loster" mushroom sandwich. There was nothing wrong with it. I'm just a picky sandwich eater as I prefer my sandwiches to have 90% fresh vegetables. The Brussel sprouts salad was very good. The staff (two young guys) were very nice. They had a pleasant attitude which I feel is now missing in this current generation. read more

We went to this PGA location for lunch and loved it. It is larger than the other two Pretty Good Advice locations and beautifully decorated. The employees were friendly and really sweet.
