Sat at the bar on Valentines Day and had fabulous martini's made by Natalie and the beef tar-tar, grilled squid/octopus, Portobello and wild mushroom appetizers. It was an outstanding meal and Natalie was very attentive despite the crowd. It was not as pricey as I would have guessed from these reviews. It was much better than the crowded Florentine Cafe, where the service and drinks were not much to speak of -- but they were slammed to be fair. read more

So four of us finally made it over to Prezza on Monday. It definitely started the week off great! Our table had a variety of appetizers, including the Crispy Shrimp with Italian slaw and cherry pepper aioli, Tuna Tar-Tare with citrus vinaigrette, crispy oysters and herb salad, Fried Zuchini Flowers on a bed of polenta and a side of wood grilled asparagus with pecorino cheese. For the mid-course, we had a dual plate of the hand-cut Tagliatelle "a la Bolognese" with porcini cream and pecorino cheese and the Spring Pea Raviolini with ham and mascarpone. For our entrees we had Ricotta Ravioli, Osso Bucco with saffron risotto cake and the Rotisserie Special of the Night which was a huge pork chop. Finally for dessert, the table got an order of the Limoncello cheesecake and the Fried donuts with honey. We took a bunch of pictures and posted them on our blog. The portions are HUGE. Why did we order so much? Only because everything looked SO good. We did go a little crazy. We ended up taking nearly all of the entrees home, but they sure made for tasty leftovers the next day! Also, if you are a wine enthusiast, you must check out Prezza's wine list. They boast of 8,000 different bottles and over 900 labels. While Prezza is definitely not wallet friendly, it was definitely a worthwhile experience and a great way to spend time with our friends. We will definitely go back and try to spend less $$$, which we can totally do so long as we choose not to order nearly the whole menu! read more

If you're looking for a real romantic restaurant, trattoria di monica is my favorite, but the food here is phenomenal, service is excellent and the wine list is fantastic! Prezza is always on my list of restaurants to recommend in Boston, and it's my first choice for restaurants in the North End. My entree of choice: braised short ribs. Had dinner there tonight, was a little less than impressed given how pricey the place is. First, I'll talk about the good. They have an extensive wine list and the service was spot on. The menu was relatively robust, with a lot of options, but they only have one special. The bad, for the price I have had bolognese that was better at 1/3 the cost in Atlanta, and the people with me got the ricotta ravioli and were not that impressed. All in all, a very average eating experience for a price that is over the top. Go somewhere else. read more

i had been wanting to go to prezza for a while and i finally went tonight with two friends. i made a reservation on opentable last night for 6:30. we got there on time and were seated right away. prezza is one of the nicer restaurants in north end. service was very pleasant, friendly, and attentive. they offer an extensive wine list, but i wasnt in the mood of drinking because i was still recovering from last weekend. olive oil with warm bread. you can pretty much tell if the restaurant is good or not from the beginning by the bread and olive oil/butter they serve. i already started liking this place. Grilled Wild Tiger Prawn with frisee, black olive and oregano potato salad exactly how i expected it to be. Seared Scallops, English peas, fava beans, spring garlic and polenta Potato Gnocchi with rock shrimp, roasted tomato, ramps and Parmigiano cheese i heard prezza has really good pastas, so i had to try some. this dish is well executed. it is very tasty without being too bold or overwhelming. the steak was huge so my friends splited one. i am not a huge steak person, but this is somewhat bland. picture is show 1/2 of the steak. BEST PART OF MY MEAL!! Passion Fruit crème brulee with fresh whipped cream and coconut macaroons omg i was blown away by this passion fruit creme brulee!!! what a heavenly mix. maybe i just love everything passion fruit but this was amazingly delish, probably one of the best desserts ive ever had!! highly recommended!! Tiramisu "Parfait" with Kahlua and espresso tiramisu was very yum too. very creamy and satisfying. read more

This is one of the best meals I have ever had. It is creative, but stays with the tradition of Italian cooking. I had the wood fired squid and octopus appetizer-lightly sauced, with white beans, just perfect in every bite, savory and not overpowering. I had the wonderful ravioli filled with ricotta and egg yolk, runny, cooked perfectly so the yolk helps sauce the meal. I highly recommend. Absolutely one of my favorite Boston restaurants after just one meal. The food was amazing, the service was top-notch as well. Also, their wine list is incredible. If we were rating: Food- 4 stars Wine list- 5 starts Service- 5 stars Couple item I would suggest: Short Rib on a lobster pancake Mushroom risotto Bolognese over gnocchi Veal Porterhouse Bread-pudding dessert I would have given them 5 starts however the meal had one big miss. The dish was the Scallop/Gnocchi Entree. The scallops were under cooked and paired with a gnocchi/mushroom sauce that had very similar textures and the colors all melted together on the plate. We were really looking forward to this dish. To be fair, the waiter did tell us that this wasn't one of the signature dishes. All and all....I can't wait to go back again. read more

Now this is a North End restaurant. The only thing it is missing is the open air seating that many other restaurants in the North End offer, which is a nice touch in the nice weather. They make up for it with the food and service however. They have a great and reasonably priced wine list (if you know what you are looking for) and the food is fantastic with good sized portions. The first time I was there I had the Dorade, which was a whole fish. The waiter noticed that I was just eating the inside and not the skin and actually came over to tell me that the skin was edible and probably the best part. I would never have thought to eat the skin of a fish, but the way they prepared this was so nice and crispy, it was delicious! I have had the chicken and pork chop and both of those were great too. Try the stuffed fig app if it is available - it is amazing. The staff is perfect here and they don't rush you. Give Prezza a shot. I will definitely be back, often. read more

We went here tonight based off the Yelp reviews. We split the lobster fra'diavlo appetizer... it was okay. Spiced perfectly, but otherwise it wasn't something I would write home about. However, the gnocchi with bolognese was absolutely redeeming. We both had the appetizer portions and it looked too small when they brought out our portions, but we had ordered sides too, so it ended up being the perfect amount. Having traveled all over Italy during various times of the year, the bolognese sauce took me right back to Roma. We also ordered the polenta and broccoli rabe sides and those were fab-u-lous. On a whim we ordered the flourless chocolate cake..and well it wasn't flourless. Glad I didn't have a gluten issue! The cake was ok.. trader joe's frozen lava cake was about 10 times better than their chocolate cake. Overall, it was a nice place and I'm very glad that we went there for dinner. We were going to try Giacomo's, but since they are cash only, we went to Prezza. It was about a 10 minute (safe) walk from State Street/Atlantic Ave. read more

Our waiter, Andy, was phenomenal. All of his suggestions was spot on. The homemade sausage was great - just wish there was more sausage and less polenta cake; the polenta was good, just wanted more sausage. The open ravioli was really good. My wife's bombolotti was very warm and hearty, yet not a dense dish. Would have had 5-stars if they had coffee and more dessert selection. Prezza was just okay. They didn't have as much of a selection as I would have liked and the service was slow, but the food was decent.

Mini corn ravioli was very good. Just the right amount of cream sauce. Not drowning in it. Corn panceta and rock shrimp has perfect on it.

Excellent service. Don was very attentive. The food was very nice though the portion was very small for the price. I had the ricotta ravioli (which consisted of maybe 10 very small, bite-sized ravioli) and a glass of dry rose. My table split the dessert sampler which consisted of flourless chocolate cake, tiramisu, bread pudding, and an assortment of biscotti and pizelles. The bread pudding was the best out of all of them. Took two out of town colleagues here last night after a day at a tech conference at the convention center. Made a reservation for 7pm an hour before arriving, and the table was ready for us. Nice ambience as others have noted; a little quiet, but not necessarily romantic. I wouldn't recommend Prezza for large groups. We split the spicy mussels and white asparagus appetizers. All three of us enjoyed both appetizers very much. The asparagus was definitely a bit unexpected, with an nice smoky flavor from the wood grill. The mussels had a little bit of kick, but not too much; delicious polenta with chorizo hidden in the sauce...mmmm. Both of my colleagues got the Lobster Tagliatelle fra Diavolo; I didn't taste it, but it looked good and both of them cleaned their plate and said it was quite good, without overwhelming spice that can be an issue for fra Diavolo. I am a sucker for house-made pasta too, so I went with the corn raviolini with rock shrimp. Very tasty, although the corn flavor was a little overwhelming. I would have liked a little bit more of the parma ham in the dish. Still, I definitely enjoyed it. Nicholas was our waiter, and he did a nice job, including offering a good recommendation on a spot to watch the Celtics game after dinner. Don't remember if they offer dessert, but we did enjoy the Modus Supertuscan with our meal. It's a little on the pricey side (apps in the $12-16 range, pasta entrees $28--except for the Tagliatelle which is $36, other entrees $22-38). Still, I'd certainly go back again. While in town for St. Pat's a friend recommended this restaurant. We had the crispy fried shrimp for appetizer. They were great. I had the chicken parmigiana which was good. Incredible meal. We started with 2 appetizers...burrata w/speck and Lobster Fra Diavlo which has just the right amount of spice. My husband had the corn ravioli/rock shrimp dish and it was out of this world. I had a smoked prime rib (Rotisserie special of the day) which was delicious and so tender! A beautiful Birthday dinner with my talented co-workers! What could be better than Prezza in the North End. Everything they served from the Zucchini Flowers to the perfectly crisp chicken breast with fluffy mashed potatoes and tomato sauce..so delicious. Prezza is me and my wife's go to for Valentine's Day each year and it never fails. It is expensive but it is worth it. I have had some of my favorite meals at this restaurant. Present was an absolutely great restaurant. Starting off with the appetizers which was excellent we had the egg plant flowers. Not as great as my grandfather used to make but damn close. The wine list was also very very good. Had a lot of great choices by the glass including a bottle from my mothers home town of Veneto Italy. The service was also top-notch they make us wait too long but they did not pressure us at all. I don't normally go out to Italian restaurants but I would actually make this place maybe a monthly occurrence on my list of restaurants. read more

I had a wonderful experience dining at Prezza on a beautiful summer Sunday eve with a friend. We thougth the food was excellent, service was kind and efficient, and it was not at all loud. No one was screaming! And the walls, floors, ceiling seemed designed for soudn absorption. What a relief that was. Scallops were good, "gem" salad was excellent (flavorful but barely-there dressing), Sunday Gravy calamari was good, bread good, wines by the glass adequate. We had a lovely meal and overall experience. I would like to return. Fingers crossed that it's quiet next time too (not dead, mind you, but civilized making it unnecessary to read lips). read more

This place was a disappointment. The service was great, the food was not. I think the low point was the pasta dishes: the pasta was gummy and the bolognese sauce lacked seasoning. We also tried a couple of appetizers and they were flat as well. The scallops were meh (and overwhelmed by the bacon from the mashed potatoes) and the shrimp were tough. We so wanted to like this place, but I don't think we will be heading back anytime soon. read more

Prezza consistently delivers quality service, food, atmosphere and good times. Over the years I have been dozens of times and cannot recall a bad meal or mediocre meal ever. From the time you are greeted at the door to the time you are bid farewell, you feel like you've had a great experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent quality food and top notch service. Food has amazing flavor, which ties to the high prices. We sat at the bar early on a Saturday night. Service was professional and not rushed - we split every item and they plate split for us which was very nice. Ordered mushroom rissoto, which was out of this world and so flavorful (and packed with a variety of mushrooms) ($16, appetizer portion - small amount but filling); spinach salad which was good though fairly standard ($12 - a bit high but large portion); Tagatelli bolongnese delish homemade pasta and creamy tomato meat sauce...Devine ($30, again for the price a bit small but delicious flavors). All in all we really enjoyed our meal. While the prices are high and this is not your typical north end restaurant, great place for a wonderfully delicious meal and perhaps a celebration. Those 3 stars actually represent a 5 star soup and 4 or 5 star dessert, and an entree that earns 1 star, for reasons I'll specify in a moment. The clam chowder is, I imagine, the sort of creative dish that earned this place its reputation, and ditto for the flourless chocolate cake. For all I know, the boneless half chicken is, for most diners, similar in quality. I ordered it because I have some strange hard-wired food preferences (e.g., pecans taste so bitter that a tiny chip can ruin a dessert) and I therefore have to be cautious about new tastes. To my surprise, the dish came with all the specified components (including very good mashed potatoes, and green beans) swimming in an unadvertised sauce. I think it may have been a wine sauce, but in any case, to me, it tasted awful. (Unfortunately, not first-bite awful, but "that's weird" and slow aftertaste awful, else I might have complained.) Had the menu mentioned the sauce, I would have certainly ordered something else, after consulting with our terrific waitress. It wasn't until the drive home that it occurred to me that a menu that specifies that the chowder's fried clams are dabbed with a "cherry pepper aioli" really ought to mention a sauce that all the listed ingredients are sitting in and, to a degree, infused with. (In fact, the menu is so insanely specific that it had me wondering briefly whether the sauce was even supposed to be there.) I'm going to try to remember this place for the outrageous chowder dish, but I'm afraid that it'll be that damn sauce that I end up recalling -- the reason I waffled on 4 or 5 stars for the dessert was that I was still fighting the aftertaste of the sauce. At these prices, you really have to tell patrons what they're going to eat. read more

We have been to North End many, many times over the years, and this is the place we've been looking for. A great spot just off the beaten path on Fleet Street. Ambiance is classy, but not pretentious. As others have noted, can be a little loud, and tables for two can be close together. But neither issue was an issue for us. My wife started with the Italian martini dirty. Garnished with a pepperocini stuffed with proscuitto and cheese. Then we shared crispy shrimp appetizer. Fantastic -- great flavor and presentation. On to next course where we shared half-order of corn raviolinis with panceta and rock shrimp. Homemade and delicious. For mains, my wife had scallops and I did meatball, sausage and ribs on polenta with tomato gravy. Both entrees superb. Our waiter was a pro. Very open to our desire to share and paced meal well. You wouldn't know this was as good as it is based on curb appeal, which is why we post and read reviews. Recommend without hesitation. read more

While I've lived in Boston for a few years, I've never done a sit-down dinner in the North End. I decided to take my mom here and we definitely were not disappointed! Our server, Nicholas, was wonderful and helped us choose a bottle of wine to start the evening. We started with the Mushroom Risotto, which was exactly how risotto is supposed to be cooked. For our main course, my mom had the Ravioli de Ouvo, while I had the Pear Ravioli. Both were delicious and fresh. We wrapped things up with some Creme Brulee which was amazing. The food was definitely fantastic Italian fare. The atmosphere was great as well, it wasn't too loud or crowded, but you didn't feel like you were the only ones there either. Location is ok, that is about it. The chicken cutlets are thick, not even an attempt at pounding. The red sauce is chunky and lacks flavor. (Same sauce on the chicken parm as on the meatball sausage, and rib dish..eh) The prices are high and the waiter was arrogant and disinterested at best) my husband rates this the worst restaurant we have visited in the North End.
