My work hosted a dinner gathering at Prime Restaurant to end a week long program with some guests from Brazil. They were extremely accommodating and made sure to set up a private events area along with the appropriate amount of staff to keep everything in order. Our group of 20 was seated inside a private dining area with access to an outside lounge where the food was served buffet style. Our dinner party consisted of tender pork loin, roasted chicken, salad, and an abundance of crispy sweet potato waffle fries - which were a HIT. The food was on point and our group loved everything. The staff kept the food coming and brought out some small desserts after dinner to finish the meal. Given that there's not a whole lot in the surrounding area, they have little competition in ways of maintaining a great tasting menu. I appreciate that the restaurant still ended up providing a fantastic meal for our event's closing dinner and one where everyone seemed very satisfied. Was entertaining a client their , ordered the cheese and chracuterie plate ,was served with some mustard and honey and dill on the side. For our entrees we ordered the Prime salad, was very fresh and seasonal . The handcut tagliatelle both the veg and non-veg version, since I'm a vegetarian. The chef gladly customized my pasta with some seasonal and locally sourced veggies , was a very clean and simple yet delicious preparation. Service was quite prompt as well. I sexually identify with steak. Patience was running thin on a Friday, and we were craving a last-minute steak dinner. When I'm finna pound the meat, I go for Prime. This restaurant be located in the Plaza Suites Hotel. Small and low-key, this place looks new and hella freshman. Our waitress had the "I'm New" Syndrome, and would keep on repeating it as she walked around in her humble cluelessness. It was endearing, and she was friendly. There's a swimming pool right next to the steakhouse for a post-steak skinny dip, if that's what you're into. Once the meat came out though, the show was on. This place was less $$ and more $$$. The steaks here run a minimum of $29. We ordered the flat iron steak ($34) and the velvet steak ($29). No sides. Just pure, unadulterated meat. They offer sauces for $2-$4 but why would you hide the flavor of steak? If it's prepared right, you don't need sauce. A1 is for chumps and outdoor BBQs. FYI, it appears their menu online is outdated. Prices have changed and they now offer the filet mignon as their highest cut. ($50). The velvet steak was solid, but it tasted like weak ass compared to the flat iron, which was pure, juicy goodness. The steaks were both perfectly cooked medium rare and served on a dope stone platter, with a side of caramelized onion. The velvet steak was clearly lacking in flavor compared to the flat iron. The flat iron was pure (cliche), mouthwater (cliche), goodness (cliche), and is probably the best value (cliche) on the menu (as suggested by the waitress). I could feel the meat slapping high fives with my taste buds. It was heavenly. Easily worth the $34. We'll come back for the flat iron. and now I'm enticed by the other options. 5 stars for the flat iron, and skip the velvet. DAMN. Strong 4 outta 5. (for now) read more

After a day of setting up for a convention at the local convention center I was staying in the hotel that Prime is located in. My favorite guy came and met me to have dinner and spend the night. We kept it local by just coming here for food rather than going anywhere else. Outside seating at night is superb. They have this giant propane fire pit with seating all around it. Its near the pool with plenty of seating. I started with the cocktail called the Tangerine Dream. It wasn't that dreamy, to orangey for my taste. The Sliders were great. We split them and it was more than enough food for both of us. On the recommendation from the waiter we went with the Charcuterie Platter. Holy smoked meat was it delicious. The Lamb Salami was incredible. It also came with pickles and Kimchi with a little Brie like cheese on the side. This was a masterpiece of Charcuterie pleasure. I had another mixed drink, the Prime Martini. I also didn't like it. So I went with Gin & Tonics the rest of the night. We sat and talked and enjoyed our little bites and cocktails. Came here with a few friends last Saturday for dinner. Didn't realize it was inside Plaza Suites Hotel. Staff were great. My pork chop wasn't quite tasty (2 stars) wasn't juicy like i was hoping and lacking in flavor; my husband's petite tender steak was to his liking (4 stars) (grass fed beef are really chewy just like the server said); my friend ordered the Korean style fried chicken which we all agreed was extremely salty (3 stars) but I'm sure was just accidentally over seasoned...otherwise I thought the crunch and tenderness was awesome; my other friend's salmon dish we all agreed was delicious (5 stars). Really appreciated the plating design too. So we weren't impressed overall with the main course (This place is $$$ not $$) but the "sides" and desserts were fantastic. Everyone loved the spicy fries, the ball pastry with dip, the popcorn gelato, and the nutella brownie with milk! 5 stars for all of those! The signature cocktails were good too! My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the calamari! I would post a picture of it, but it was pretty much finished by the time it hit our table. It was cooked perfectly and the squid ink aioli was amazing. I highly recommend this dish! We also had the bruschetta. I managed to take a quick picture before we ate it all. I love mushrooms, and I would definitely order this again. The sides were very tasty! The marshmallows on the sweet potatoes were a treat, and the Brussels sprouts were extremely flavorful. I ate it all! The flat iron steak was mouthwatering and cooked at a perfect medium rare. Following the appetizers, and partnered with the sides.. this meal was absolutely amazing. On our table had a variety of food and flavors! One member in our party ordered the veal four ways. I was lucky enough to try some of it, but before I could taste the veal made in other ways it was all done! Maybe I'll have to order one for myself the next time around... We all enjoyed a beverage from the bar. I normally enjoy a bourbon and coke. Usually it's made with too little or way too much alcohol. The bartender found a perfect balance. If I did not have to drive, I would've ordered another round! Our hostess was very polite, and our server was very attentive. I met a friend here for dinner who was staying at the hotel and our dinner was phenomenal! We started with the brussel sprouts and sausage which were both absolutely delicious. We both ended up ordering the salmon and it's the best salmon I've had. The skin on the salmon was light and crispy while the salmon itself was cooked very flavorful and moist. We finished with the crème brûlée which I devoured before getting a picture. Hannah behind the bar was extremely friendly and pleasant as well. read more

I guess this place is a revamp of the former bistro in the hotel to a steakhouse. However most of the Steak offerings are only for dinner so I missed out during a lunch run while in the area/ Got the cheddar burger with bacon and a side of onion soup. The soup was just ok, they cooked the onions in the broth but didnt follow the traditional caramelizing of the onions first. The burger was cooked correctly and was just slight over mid rare. It however is a straight forward deal and nothing outlandish or unique. It's a bit hidden off on Lakeside but for hotel food it's decent. 3.5 stars read more

If you manage to ignore the "eating in a hotel lobby" part of it, you are in for a treat. Dinners in hotel restaurants are usually associated with a late night arrival to a new town on a business trip, and making do with whatever the hotel is serving because all other restaurants are closed. But not this one! The restaurant is actually on par with some of the finer ones in Silicon Valley. The appetizers were awesome. We had the Calamari and mushroom bruschetta. 3.5 stars. I was craving a big slab of meat, and was too lazy to drive to Alexander Steakhouse in rush hour traffic, so I decided to try Prime, a local steakhouse close to home. People seem to enjoy the food, and they serve Marin Sun Farm's 100% grass fed and pasture raised beef. I wish they had New York Strip or Filet Mignon. I ordered the flat iron. The restaurant is located in a hotel lobby, so it isn't exactly a romantic dinner kind of place. The servers were nice, although I was disappointed that they ran out of Brussels sprouts and that the menu in the front did not reflect the menu I was given. I was told that the menu just keeps changing. It also took about 50 minutes to get my food, and the place was not overly crowded. The side of broccoli I I had was quite tasty and exceeded my expectations (5 stars). The steak itself was just okay (3 stars)--I wish they seared the outside of it more. It was also slightly cold. The salmon that the person next to me looked delicious though. Perhaps they are still working out the kinks of this place. The waitress that I had was quite friendly. I just prefer a few other places in the same price range ( Il Fornaio, Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Parcel 104). Plus half a star because the food did seem healthy. read more

Hidden gem! Unassuming boutique hotel restaurant with seasonal menu, responsibly sourced. Solid bar game to boot- craft cocktails and good house wine. Best to sit at the bar and get service from Tara. The sit down service is a little inattentive so it works if you plan to socialize. I stayed at the hotel for 3 weeks and made my way around the menu. Steaks are legit, albeit pricey, but Salmon dishes hit the spot. The frites were the best potatoes I've ever had- baked then fried in horseradish oil- what?!? I'll admit to making a meal of just those potatoes and another side. I make a point to stop in when in Santa Clara even if not staying at the hotel. read more

I came here on a Friday night last week with a couple of friends. I had never heard of Prime let alone even imagine that's such a great restaurant would be hidden behind tall buildings, next to a freeway and inside of a inconspicuous hotel. When I walked in you can see the restaurant immediately towards your left and the layout was quite simple and easy to navigate around. The bar was amazing with the trimming around the edges and I liked that it was a full island bar so you could sit completely around the entire thing. The hostess sat us at our table which was next to the window that had a great view of the outside and pool of the hotel. I loved that there was a very intimate and elegant atmosphere about the restaurant yet it was overly done or felt overly bougie. I felt very welcomed especially by our waiter. Staff was very friendly, enthusiastic and honestly I loved it because it was refreshing not to get a snooty or pretentious server despite the upscale look of the restaurant. Our server was very patient and knowledgeable of the menu and actually made quite a few great suggestions! The menu was very well done; it had enough items that it didn't feel underwhelming and not too many items that you couldn't make up your mind. The selections of appetizers was so hard to choose from because they all looked so good and can I just point out: any place that has a separate menus for cheese and charcuterie plates Deserves and A+ in my book. When you proceed to look down towards the entree section I liked that entrees themselves were separated from the base entree and the more premium items. Since the restaurant is called "Prime" we can assume that the premium items were of course MEAT! If I remember correctly there was about 6 different cuts of meat you can order from that were each given a small description of what it is. They even had a small section that gave a list of housemate sauces you could order to accompany your choice of meat. If you were impressed by the entrees then you'll be even more impressed by the selection of sides they offered too. I think we ordered almost all the sides and they were ALL fantastic. Oh my dear god the collard greens side were ridiculously good. My entree was the short ribs and all I have to say is: HOLY F*** was it good. Where and how can I even begin to describe the delectable platter of meaty goodness? The meat itself was cooked to PERFECTION oh my god like seriously OH MY GOD. TENDER AND JUICY, perfectly medium rare with a gorgeous color in the center. Every bite was a religious experience and as I got closer and closer towards the end of my euphoric journey I was sad cause I only had 2 pieces left on my plate. Words can not even explain to you how insanely good the short ribs were and the SAUCE oh my dear sweet baby Jesus the sauce that came with the steak was just. So. Good. If I could attach a sound sample of me trying to sum up the words and sounds to describe my joy and flavor explosive experience from each bite of that short rib I would. If I could sum up my entire experience at Prime in one word I would say: Surprised. Surprised because I came in not knowing what to expect and maybe I'm a bit jaded by some of my experiences from eating in other restaurants lately but Prime was seriously so surprising. I honestly am so happy I found a restaurant I can add to my favorite places to eat and enthusiastically suggest to my friends. If you got to the end of my review and have not been annoyed yet by my over ecstatic praise of this fine eating establishment I honestly and sincerely implore you to give Prime a chance. A group of us tried dinner here for the first time this past Friday. The menu selection had just the right amount of options. Since the chef likes to keep the plate options fresh and exciting they rotate items every few weeks. We had multiple tasty dishes from the fresh toasted kale and prime salad to the main entrees of ora king salmon , grilled short rib and the 8oz petite tender steak. All of the dishes were cooked perfectly. My favorite side dish was the garnet yam with marshmallow and black pepper. The taste was unique and kept me wanting more. We finished off the meal with the crime brûlée which was topped with a deep vanilla sorbet. During the meal the service was very helpful and recommended several items which we found to be the right choice. Considering I work in Santa Clara and always struggle to find quality restaurants in close proximity this place will definitely be on my list. The food and service here were beyond great. My husband and I came here to celebrate Valentine's day early. We didn't wait too long to get seated. The ambiance was nice and romantic, which for me means dimmed lighting, quiet, and intimate. We ordered the torn frites, fried chicken, and ribeye steak, and the cream brûlée for dessert. Everything had a unique, fresh taste. You can tell they use quality ingredients. Our server was Luis. He was nice, attentive, and checked in on us often. The bartender was Eduardo. He made us some excellent drinks. He was professional yet very personable. He recommended the smoke & rye cocktail, which was surprisingly smooth and the smokiness gave it that special flavor. Staying in the Plaza Suites so we decided to try the restaurant. Ordered flat iron on suggestions from other Yelpers. It was served in a bowl instead of on a hot tile like others had mentioned. Came with over-cooked potatoes and was already sliced which was a little strange. Extensive amount of chives that were unnecessary. Steak itself was good but "bbq" sauce on potatoes & around bowl was a little too sweet. And it was served on some sort of mash?! When I asked server he had to look in the menu & said it was onion mash, it was kinda gross & could have just been a few green beans, asparagus or just mashed potato. But still was ok. The worst part was the 20 minutes we sat after finishing our drinks during the meal, finally had our plates taken, but were NEVER offered a second drink, or anything else like dessert. We finally texted the hotel about the poor service and the restaurant manager received a phone call and then came to find us. She took off our salad but didn't offer much in the way of excuses. The smart response would have been another drink or dessert on the house, or something sent to our room since we charged it. This chef is an artist! We dined here two nights in a row because it's that good and offers very clever culinary creations. Every dish was delicious. The first night we started with meat and cheese board that offered excellent select cheeses we don't normally see on a menu. Then the pasta bolognese, the french onion soup, the brussels sprouts and the prime salad with roasted lemon dressing was outstanding, and trust me, being an old school Italian from NY, I was skeptical about trying pasta and sauce in a hotel but the fact that chef makes homemade pasta convinced me to try it. And the way he complimented the perfectly cooked pasta with just enough sauce so as to not overpower the flavor of the pasta spoke volumes about his expertise. My fiancé ordered the pasta bolognese the next night and flipped over it, while I opted for the miso shallot ravioli type dish (don't recall the name, sorry), yes also homemade pasta, and if I could have licked the bowl I would have! After two nights we could honestly say we had fragrant and flavorful food that rivals a 5 star restaurant, and this was in a hotel! Dessert was delicious also, the brownie with nutella and milk was ridiculous, as was the prickly pear (and basil?) gelato. To top it off, the service was excellent, I can't recall his name but the waiter described everything in great detail and also possessed the ability to recommend a perfect wine pairing to go with our meal. Although on night two we tried and loved their cocktail concoctions, mine was smoking, literally! I ordered the dry aged burger with frites & onion soup. I wasn't sure what frites were at first but come to find out they're huge chunky potato pieces that are fried. The burger was absolute delicious, every bite was head shaking incredible. They had some pickles garnished off to the side, I'm not a huge fan of pickles but these pickles were sweet & tasted a bit fermented..best pickles I ever had by far. I loved the frites as well, they were garnished with a bit of Parmesan cheese. Initially I wasn't a fan of the onion soup but as I continued to taste it I started rather enjoy it...I ordered delivery & everything came nicely wrapped & in a decent time frame...Yum!! read more

A couple of weeks ago I came with my mother in law and her family to eat and I must say the food was fantastic. We started with the calamari and baked meatball. The calamari was topped with lemon confit which added an interesting twist. For dinner I ordered the tagliatelle pasta which was served with an AMAZING Bolognese sauce. I could definitely tell I wasn't eating just regular old pasta,the flavors were fabulous. The server suggested the petit tender for my mother in law and wow it was so savory and tender I almost regretted not ordering it myself. She was satisfied to say the least. The steak comes by itself, so she ordered a side of Yukon mash to go along with it. The Yukon mash was reminiscent of the usual home style mashed potatoes only this is a more sophisticated version which was creamier than your typical mash. Last but not least we had a dessert to share because we were close to stuffed. We decided on the Skillet brownie. After our appetizers and our entrees it was clear that dishes on this menu are anything but normal and far from what you would expect. I mean that in a good way. This brownie just like anything else we had wasn't just a brownie. This brownie is a show in itself. About the service, it was attentive but not overwhelming. The food at Prime is quite good overall, but not commensurate with the bill at Prime. Their top-of-the-line steak was over-salted and actually a bit tough, chewy. I kind of suspected I was in trouble when the waiter set the table for the main course including a substantial steak knife; a really top-quality steak doesn't need a steak knife. The flavor of the meat was good, once you got past the salt. The portion, perhaps about 12 ounces, was correct; while a huge steak -- 16 or 24 or more ounces seen on some menus -- is visually impressive, it gets boring quite quickly to eat. The highlight of the meal was the house-made ketchup which is outstanding. It went well with the fries -- excuse me, "Pommes Frites" -- which were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. I wish they would have paid as much attention to the rest of the meal as to the ketchup. I started with a Caesar salad which was good, though some of the lettuce was just a bit past its best-by date. The common problem with Caesar Salad is overthinking it. It's actually a very simple salad. As such, it is -- well, should be -- a showcase for the freshest and best-quality ingredients. Prime falls into the overthinking trap. The vodka Martin was great, just perfect. This encouraged me to finish with a steakhouse favorite for desert, a Manhattan cocktail. It was good, very workman-like. But, it was garnished with a bright-red candied cherry, the sort that is just not found anymore in craft mixology. It's disappointing to get that close to the finish-line and stumble on the garnish. The price tag for this dinner-for-one was over $100 which is in line with what I would expect to pay for a traditional steakhouse dinner. But a traditional steakhouse would have done better. We ordered the Calamari, Bone In Ribeye with sauce verte, House Frites, and Brownie. Calamari with squid ink aioli was excellent. Better than any Calamari I have tasted. Not chewy at all. Just melted in my mouth. Not a big calamari person because of the usual chewiness, but this was perfection. Ribeye-medium with sauce Verte was also great. Good flavor with or without the sauce. House steak sauce had an overwhelming flavor. Not a fan of that, definitelt go for the sauce verte instead. House Frites!!!!! Yes, please! More! Skillet Brownie was not excessively sweet. Took my project team here for dinner last week. For starters, the signage outside the building for the restaurant is minimal. Restaurant is located in the Plaza Suites hotel. Our waitress must have been new, as she didn't know the menu well, first letting us know the bone in filet was not available, then saying it was available but only cooked at Medium. I'm not sure why the availability of a steak would be based on its doneness. When our food finally came out, the server said that the medium bone in filet was the one that was darker, even though this ended up being my steak, which I asked to be cooked to medium rare. Food was decent, despite the mix ups, though I would have preferred my steak medium rare instead of medium. My wine was a bit sour, and the restaurant had minimum ambience (was basically in the hotel lobby/elevator bay). Probably would not eat here again. read more

Don't give a steakhouse a 1 star review for drinks. - Actually I was unable to even find one critique so possibly a 4.5 - 5 star experience, I gave them room to grow, as a salad with the meat would have been nice, as the grass fed beef is À la carte. Located at the bottom of the Plaza suites hotel, I went on July 3 and the place was empty at the start of dinner, but I am sure people had fireworks plans. Manuel was our waiter, and he was able to answer every question I fired at him with ease. We got steaks cooked rare, medium,well and well done, and they all had the perfect temp, so I know the chef can do that perfectly. The Onion soup was very nice coming in cast iron crocks. The Calamari platter was cooked perfectly just right not cooked to death like some places. The squid-ink sauce was expertly done. Another fan at the table was the side of potatoes cooked with a nice crisp and the sweet/savory dipping sauce was well enjoyed, and something I had never tried. Get the peppercorn sauce on the side with the meat, that was flavored quite well not actually needing a side. Manuel really earned his tip, by giving us a slightly larger amount of ice cream when we got the nice warm Beignets for desert. While the meal was quite a bit more than I usually pay for dinner, it was a nice reward dinner for a couple who really helped me when I was in a bind recently. I recommend going there on a Tuesday or other low demand day so you get totally pampered like we did. I am guessing a Friday night will not be as intimate as out night was. read more

This is my first time here, and I'm sitting at the bar enjoying the King salmon with a broccolini side. Both are delicious. The salmon is literally melting in my mouth. Do not come here for valentines dinner . We waited 45 minutes to be seated even though we had reservation . 2 people before us had the same problem and decided to leave after waiting 30 minutes. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the workers having to work such a crazy day but there was literally 1 host , 1 server and god knows how many ppl in the kitchen..... don't open up an rsvp or pre fix menu if u can't handle the rush... bunch of valentine's date were ruined this night!!! On top of the 45 minute wait to get seated , we waited another 45 minutes for food... We booked for a bistro room seating and ended up sitting at the bar just because we couldn't even wait anymore since we haven't ate. Ended up getting our food around 9:30.... ridiculous ! read more

Long-time Yelp reader, First-time reviewer. For my first review, I chose Prime because it's an excellent restaurant that I thought was worth the time to write a review. I was pleasantly surprised at the great food at this casual restaurant inside the Plaza Suites in Santa Clara. My wife, my best friend and I shared the Veal Tasting platter that our server, Alissa, highly recommended. It was delicious to say the least. The platter came with four different cuts of meat, about 16 oz total, and was enough to share with sides. Our plate came with two ribs, an eye of round, a garlicky stew and a filet! We shared the brussel sprouts and potato mash! We will be coming back soon to try the other dishes, next time we might sit outside. read more

Everything was good accept for my wife's entree was served warm and her sides were cold. We were there on Valentine's Day. No complaints about anything else. If the food was served at a reasonable temperature I would have given at least 4 stars. read more

We had lunch here yesterday,there were 7 of us, the food was surprisingly great.I had grilled Salmon with Spinach Salad it was Amazing,try their torn potatoes you won't regret it,service was good and the Manager checked on us a few times to see if we were okay, she was very nice. Love the decor it's very clean and looks new,they also have an outside deck which overlooks the pool.We will definitely be back. read more

The space has a nice look, with trees and a pool outside. However, they play nonstop techno music, even when there are just 3 people on a Saturday night. I politely asked if they could change it, and they said the general manager will not allow it. read more
