This is the restaurant at market place, under new ownership. I walked in, and the change is apparent. Gone is the ocean, in is darkness and sophistication. Even the menu is heavy with metal edges. The waiter is wonderful and attentive. All the dishes are premium quality in unique shapes. We order the Japanese burrito appetizer and my wife loved it and immediately gave it 5/5. Let's start with the customer service. This place is only 2 days open and they seem to have everything down packed. The server is amazing , greeting us with a smile on his face. He is very educated on the menu and even made recommendations. The ambiance is nice and chill with music playing not too loud but enough to make the room feel nice. The food is without a doubt delicious. The lemon roll was the best I have ever had. They took the extra time to peel the lemon and added cilantro on the inside. To the owners, been here multiple times and always an amazing experience as family. As a family owned business my number one Sushi place to go by far.. Yet, today on 06/25/26 at around 6:50, hope you watch your cameras, your host, serviced young lady was awful rude. One thing is to tell us we need to wait on HER to be seated on the bar area, and another to belittle the main chef at that time. (We always see dad cooking and mom hosting) we asked main chef at the time if bar area was ok to sit at, in which she agreed. Yet, the host at this time said "she was nobody" and we were to wait on her, following the slamming of menus on the table. We agreed to leave my husband and I and let her know of how rude her actions were. At this point she proceeded us to leave with her hand gestures and her very disrespectful demeanor. This place is a 10 always, not today. Hope they look into who is working during their absence. Doubt we'll be back unless this young lady is gone. read more

When searching for sushi spots in Bakersfield, Prime sushi caught our attention and good thing it did! We went for lunch around 3pm. It wasn't crowded or empty and it was a great spot to enjoy good food and good vibes. To start we ordered a bask of calamari and some baked mussels. Calamari was amazing! Breading was delicious and perfectly cooked. Baked mussels had a great flavor. We went with four rolls, Cajun Han, Honeystone roll, fire roll, and the Gangnam roll. The Cajun Han has a strong Smokey flavor. Honeystone roll was a great combination of flavor! Fire roll had a great presentation and yummy spicy kick that was amazing. My favorite was the Gangnam roll! It was a great lunch over all and props to the chef and the delicious food that he prepared. Server however seemed to be having a bad day or something cause she had a blank expression the whole time and seemed like that was the last place in the world she wanted to be kinda ruined the 5 stars I wanted to give this place. Half way through they had a shift change and boy was it a big difference in aura. Great place overall and definitely would be going back soon. ( Just stay away from the tap water!!!! We ordered two different rolls each and wow, everything was absolutely delicious. Saw this place had changed its name again and they were offering 50% off their menu for their grand opening. Hadn't been in there since it was Toro. The inside has changed just slightly from when it was Toro, minor modifications to access behind the sushi bar, the cashiers station, and the odd wall removed from the back of the restaurant and it still looks fine. There was only 2 waitresses working on a Friday night, but they managed to keep everything moving just fine as the place was full. Since there was 50% off we ordered more than we normally would just to try more.. The garlic edamame was great (fresh and garlicky). We ordered 5 rolls (Rainbow, Gangham, Blooming Onion, Yellowtail special roll, and super tiger roll) and had a hard time figuring out which one was our favorite as they were all very good. We enjoy a cucumber salad with our meal and though it tasted great, we wish the cucumber pieces had been cut into thinner pieces, may want to ask them to do that if you also don't like big chunks of cucumber like us. When we arrived we waited a few minutes to get seated, but wait wasnt too long. It was my husband, baby, and I. I requested a high chair and the waiter Musfata brought it right away. My husband and I chose the rainbow, honeystone, yellowtail special, and kingster roll. I also ordered a miso soup. The miso soup was so delicious, honestly the best I've had. I feel like it's not a mass produced miso soup and made with actual miso paste. It was missing some tofu and thin cut green onion but flavor was 10/10. I loved how the honeystone wasn't oily at all and was nice and crispy. Their fish is definitely high quality and buttery. While my husband and I waited for the food we noticed there was only one waiter and sushi chef in the front! Although the food took a bit, it was worth the wait. Waiter was so nice and attentive even when taking care of 5+ tables by himself. My baby dropped water and the waiter brought napkins right away, we asked for sauces and he didn't forget like other places do, we forgot to order water and it was brought over even though we didn't order any. I come here anytime I need a fix for my sushi cravings. I've been to several places in the Central Valley and this is by far my favorite. The fish is always high quality and beautiful coloring(you can tell the difference) kept super cold which I love and their classic rolls have an individual twist that I love! Saturday night we walked over from our hotel only to find a sign that they had run out of fish and were closing early. We were disappointed but, given the positive reviews, and close proximity, we decided it was worth giving them a second chance so we walked over again the next day. We're glad we did. Overall, it was a positive experience. All the rolls we had, as well as the appetizers, were very good and the fish was very fresh. Particularly of note was the originality of some of the rolls. The Bloomin Onion roll was an unexpected standout and the edamame was particularly flavorful. In the negative category, the waitstaff was a bit undertrained and overenthusiastic. Perhaps an overcompensation for earlier negative reviews? Specifically, the servers checked in 3-4 times per course (at least 15-20 times in total) interrupting us every time, and unawares that the other servers had already checked in about the same things. They were also not very familiar with the menu or how to serve particular items, and brought out things in a weird order -- appetizers after a roll, salads almost at the end of the meal. Finally it's worth noting that the salmon used in the salmon skin salad was not of the same quality as that used in the rolls. There was an overwhelmingly fishy stench that rendered it inedible to my palette. All that being said, the booths were comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the food minus the salmon skin salad was fantastic. It is a definitely a restaurant worth checking out. read more

Went in and it wasn't busy. I took my mom out for her birthday during lunch. However, I don't know if it's an off day or what. I have been there three times now. No problems. But I was charged for an appetizer I didn't receive and I remembered an hour after coming home. The manager or owner just zelled me the $9 back. I didn't realized the shrimp and vegetable tempura only came with one piece of shrimp either. I wouldn't have ordered it. I wanted to treat my mom to oysters so I was going to get three orders but there wasn't any. I asked for mussels instead. There were none. I was served hot tea with a chipped lip on the cup, which my mom worked at a brewery and said that's not allowed since a customer can cut their lip. Waitress was nice and friendly. Sushi maker/ manager was not very welcoming. It was just not much of a good experience and I was super disappointed especially hyping it up to my mom for her birthday.
