Had my parents ts surprise birthday here and it was great! Booking the room was easy, they don't charge an insane deposit or minimum, service was outstanding, and food was delicious. The only issue was they charge a $20 cutting fee if you bring your own dessert. Solid 4 stars. Made reservations, arrived early, staff were attentive. Ordered wine ($23 two glasses) and I need to stop buying glasses of wine at restaurants. Anyways! Ordered an appetizer, and the lamb shank and the pork chop for dinner. Pork chop was thick- well cooked, not dry and the flavor was complex. I could taste the smokiness. It was pure comfort food. Hubs enjoyed the lamb shank. The meat fell off the bone. He enjoyed the polenta, and the veggies. Overall a decent different spot to find some good eats in Tacoma. read more

Honestly I don't even know where to begin! How about our waiter Dean! Funny, kind and even tho they were understaffed he hustled, apologized when we had to ask a second time for something and he made excellent suggestions! We had the chicken, pork chop and capellini with mushrooms! All 3 were excellent and would order again in a heartbeat! Also had focaccia and Brussels sprouts both perfection! Cocktails were on point! Open air, comfy seats and just an overall happy place! The dessert was a berry handpie and we are still talking about it 3 days later! More please! This review is for dinner (7:15pm) for two on October 12, 2021. On a whim, we decided to eat here while walking down 6th ave and we're so glad we did. The food & drinks were absolutely amazing. Food: 5 stars For starters we had Calamari and classic pizza. Both items were large portioned and delicious. We really enjoyed the thin crust pizza, sauce was very flavorful. Next time we will ask for the crust to be cooked a little longer. Crust was cooked through but very soft. For entrees we had the pumpkin ravioli and lamb shank. The lamb shank was so tender and cooked to perfection. Very juicy and flavorful. I really enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli. The pumpkin tasted extremely fresh with hints of butter and herbs. Drinks: 5 stars We enjoy drinking cocktails on the regular and this place did not disappoint! Rosy Bees Knees was delicious! All of the flavors worked well with each other and weren't overpowering. Oaxaca margarita was refreshing while still having a smoky finish from the mezcal. We also ordered a few Army&Navy drinks and those were made well. Atmosphere: very clean and inviting atmosphere with a hint of intimacy. Service was slow but picked up as we went along. Muscles were to die for. I could have bathed in the sauce. Rib eye was great and spaghetti carbonara was too. I was teetering between three or four stars but always like to round up, so four stars it is. Parking is difficult. It's all street parking, but that's everything in this area! Just make sure to arrive early and do plan parking time into your arrival time. We made reservations which I really recommend since it got super busy while we were there. It was so incredibly loud. Our waitress was very kind but unfortunately everything just took a long time. Drinks took a long time, food took a while. We ordered the fried Brussel sprouts - unfortunately they were kind of mushy. For being fried I was expecting crispy! But unfortunately it didn't hit the mark. I got the bacon onion pizza which I did like, my husband got a pork ragu dish which he didn't like. I tried it as well and it was just super bland. He didn't finish it but I took my pizza home and we enjoyed it even as leftovers! We finished with a apple pie which was not that great. Somehow, I don't know how, because I love pie. Overall, it was ok, it wasn't someplace we'd die to return to or necessarily recommend but it wasn't the worst place. I wouldn't consider this Mediterranean food. More like New American with a slight Italian/Mediterranean influence. Food was good, not great or anything super exciting. Especially for the price. Service was extremely slow (waitstaff) and we kept getting bumped by people walking behind our chairs, so it felt like the layout was a bit cramped. There were kids and babies there and while that isn't a problem on principle, as a parent myself out on a date with my husband I don't want to pay $200 for dinner while sitting next to fussy kids. Had a 6:30pm reservation. Seemed to be chaotic and it seemed like the service was all over the place. I don't think anyone came to get our order until after I asked someone who refilled our waters if we could please order. Appetizers were ok at best, focaccia was dry, Brussel sprouts were just meh and burrata was good however it was maybe a 2-3 tiny bite appetizer. Main courses were alright, bacon instead of pancetta in carbonara, my steak was not medium rare as ordered and the plate looked a hot mess to be honest. I expect more for $47. Very, very slow service. I have a feeling the 20% mandatory gratuity charge on the check has taken some of the motivation from the servers since it's an automatic tip. Will not return as there are way better options in Tacoma read more

Can't believe this is my first time here. Came with a group of nine. The atmosphere is perfect. The vibe is so happy, casual and special. Appetizers were super, crostini with pear and melted cheese, roasted cauliflower with Flatbread and four delicious dipping sauces. I had the fish special which was stuffed swordfish $33.00. It was amazing. I tried bites of the lamb shank, the vodka sauce pasta with added sausage and the pumpkin ravioli. All were excellent. Dessert was the bourbon chocolate cake, the hazelnut brownie sundae and the sticky toffee pudding. My absolute favorite was the sticky toffee pudding. Though all were delicious. Had a black Manhatten and a limoncello at the end. Drinks were outstanding. Can't wait to come back. I want everyone to come here. A culinary jewel. read more

We've been visiting this restaurant to celebrate our Valentine's Day every year for the last 15 years or so. This restaurant is such a special place for us and the food and service never disappointed us until this year. I understand the ownership has recently changed and I was wondering how the things have changed. We had a reservation so we got seated immediately but we waited at least 15 minutes until a server showed up at our table. Before a server showed up, one of owners came to our table and poured water without even saying hi or welcome or anything - she just poured water and left. The service was extremely dry and I was very disappointed by the lack of warmth. I understand Valentine's Day is one of the busiest day for any popular restaurants but I expect a little more from a place where we end up spending almost $300 for two people. I hate to change our yearly tradition but I am not sure if we will keep going back if the service is no different for next time. read more

This place has KILLER food! We have been waiting to find a place like this in the south end for over 4 yrs! We have been here twice now and it is now our #1 go to restaurant for date night! Their rib eye is a fantastic value, for $38 you get a top notch steak, date I say better than El Gaucho, with the most amazing fried Brussels with a balsamic reduction and sage potatoes au gratin! Super good! We also tried their pork chop and it was fantastic as well! We tried their pizza and it is the best around, by far! Not the largest mind you, but certainly enough for one person with maybe a slice or two left over. Their Caesar salad is really good and so are their deserts. Got there for my reservation informed the lady about my reservation she give me a very dirty look like she didn't want us there. After 20 mins on waiting we were taking to our table. My wife and I tried the steak and later both got food poisoning from their food . I highly recommend to stay away from this restaurant. read more

I was very excited to go here for dinner because of the Farm to Table and local concept. I have to say the presentation was absolutely exquisite for the most part. Pictures say the whole story. The calamari, well I could have had three helpings of that easy and the saffron garlic broth was absolutely addictive. Brussel sprouts were good, tuna was done perfectly but have to admit taste it a little fishy in some parts. What I thought was lacking was the pizza. Really decided to go out of my box and get something for lack of a better word, simple. Very disappointed. Perhaps because of not enough toppings on it, them thrown half hazardly so not every slice had everything on it. Plus I don't to do goat cheese so asked for sausage instead and saw $2 upcharge on my bill. Ho hum flavor. My bourbon chocolate cake was good, nothing to write home about. The coconut cake was not in your face coconut which for me, if I'm having coconut cake, I want it everywhere. Couldn't discern much of the lime either. I actually use the recipe from Bon Appetit that's to die for. But to each its own. Would I come here again, probably. read more

I've heard of Primo ever since I've moved to Tacoma. Some people have raved about it and others were lukewarm towards it. It wasn't until recently where I finally decided to give it a try. I was fairly impressed with what I ordered which was a squash ravioli however I did walk away feeling that the quality didn't quite match up with price. I'm not complaining about poor food quality because that wasn't a factor but if I'm going to pay as much as what the end bill was I was hoping to get swept off my feet with something really amazing. The tip arrangement is set up differently where it's factored into the bill at the end but it isn't exactly called a tip. So that's something to be aware of when coming here to dine. Despite my criticisms and analysis about my dining experience here I would consider coming back for another meal but I'm just not sure if I could ever be considered a regular. read more

Dinner before a show at the Pantages, my first time at Primo. I came on crutches, with a cast on one leg. Was left at the door while our table was made ready, though we had arrived on time, not early - would have been polite to have found a way to offer me a seat while waiting. In any case, be advised that the restaurant is not configured for easily accommodating the disabled. Once seated, the service was good and the staff helpful in assessing the menu. The wine list (and I am a wine collector) is short but very good, though the markup here is in the neighborhood of 150%. I had brought a bottle of champagne and a red from my cellar and got no complaints and in fact an immediate offer for an ice bucket - nice! The menu is intriguing and varied so should please anyone. I ordered the ribeye and my companions ordered quite a variety of dishes including the calamari appetizer. Knowing I had a large dinner coming, I didn't sample much of anything - just a couple of bites of the calamari to pair with the champagne - so cannot comment on other dishes. The ribeye was delicious, perfectly cooked medium well, and the horseradish aioli and brussels sprouts were excellent accompaniments. The noise level was excellent, and the place was pretty full. Prices are reasonable for food items. I haven't dined out in Tacoma for many years, and this place certainly left a positive impression. read more

I took the hubby here for his birthday. We had reservations and were actually a couple of minutes late because I always forget that parking on 6th Ave is mostly ridiculous. After we found a spot four blocks away we checked in. The waitress gave us three choices of seating (totally appreciated this and I'm sure when they're packed this isn't a thing). We picked a table she described that was behind a wall. It was perfect for us, looked like we had the entire spot to ourselves. The drink I ordered was delicious and we enjoyed the grilled bread too. Hubby ordered the Prime Rib and raved. I ordered the pasta and was equally satisfied. We shared the brownie for dessert and they put a candle in it for his birthday. I was thankful for that touch as well. For the two of us we paid about $120. This place most definitely went to our special occasion kind of spot. read more
