Cafe la Boheme has one of the friendliest staffs and most welcoming seating areas I've come across. Located in the mission, this can be the perfect stop for a beer or an essential pick up for a coffee. They have plenty of snacks and menu options. The man did not acknowledge my presence for a few minutes. When he did , he asked "what did you want?". He was annoyed when I had a question about a specialty latte. I got an almond milk cappuccino for 5.50. I saw him use Kirkland brand almond milk as he made the drink. The espresso tasted decent, not very strong. Super chill throwback Mission oasis for basic drip coffee, affordable nibbles, and reliable upgrades to your usual array of espresso drinks, pour-overs, or unfiltered Turkish coffee. Also a decent complement of beer and wine, though that's usually not my purpose here. Bottled kombucha and juices in the fridge case if that's your thing. Good for a light lunch or afternoon snack. I go back years with these folks. The comfortable well lived-in space and fantastic location half a block from the BART station really make this place. Large beat-up antique-looking tables, big South-facing windows, and alcoves on either side of the door. High ceilings, which helps in the event they mount a TV for an international soccer tournament, which has happened. It's gotten harder to find plugs and they now issue one-hour tickets for the Internet, and they have one of those Space Age Good2Go restrooms. Still I wind up coming in, setting up to work, and staying far longer than I expected. Really about as good as one can hope for in preserving old SF feel in the midst of recent change. I no longer live in SF but I've dropped by whenever I'm in the neighborhood over the years and-- while the neighborhood has changed-- La Boheme still has good food for good prices, plentiful seating, a chill vibe, and the manager's consistent friendliness. Although the bulletin board no longer has the weird art event fliers and local political handmade signs -- advertising BART fare protests & etc -- everything is a professionally designed & printed poster -- it's still my favorite Mission cafe. Regardless, my heart belongs to Jamie, and he's not into coffee, so leave me alone, will ya? I just want to sip my cup of joe in peace, man. Otherwise, I like this place right across from the 24th Street BART station because it offers a Middle East-meets-Mexico meld of coffee and food in their eclectically comprehensive menu. I had just eaten a full plate of goulash next door at Paprika, so I was not in any condition to have one of their Greek Omelettes or a Middle Eastern Plate. However, I took the liberty of trying their signature drink, the large $4.25 glass of the Mexican Mocha, most definitely a delicious blend of espresso and chocolate with plenty of milk. Cafe La Boheme is your no frills, basic, mostly traditional coffeehouse with a kick of bohemian. The decor has an eclectic collective uniformity to it. I can't categorize it in my head, but sometimes things are better left that way, instead, enjoy the moment! Location is in the heart of "The Mission" right smack across 24th St. Bart Station. There are plenty of metered parking, but I highly suggest utilizing the neighborhood's two hours free parking instead only a few blocks away. Boheme is a full service coffeehouse serving meals all day including soup, bagels, eggs and a handful of other variety eats and open most late nights! My cappuccino(double shot) is not bad. Not what I'm used to but drinkable. They do provide you a huge space to call your own to read, to study, or to simply catch up with an old friend. Too bad they don't have outdoor seating (probably a city ordinance) as it would be nice like today to seat outside and soak in all that "Mission" culture. If a suggestion box is visible the next time, I would suggest a couple of comfy sofa since space is not something their lacking.
