I normally try to do the basic maintenance work on my own. But I was down in LA with no tools and the rear brakes were starting to squeel badly. Read the reviews on here and called up William, who is the owner. He sounded stern and when I met him, he was stern. But one of those good stern attitudes where he's not going to bullshit you but just give it to you straight. The guy that worked on my car was Tim. Younger guy and basically translated for William who gave the pricing. Turned out the pads were gone, rotors thin, and it actually started to eat into the right rear caliper (I saw it). So.... I knew that Firestone quoted me $420 for just pads and rotors alone. Didn't even mention the caliper even after they inspected it. So I asked Tim how much the damage would be... New rear pads, new rear rotors, a new rear right brake caliper, and flush the brake fluid... All for $360. You can't beat that. These guys are honest. I'm sure they know they could make more money given the other shops out there and how much they charge. But I think the approach they are taking is, do good work for a good price and word of mouth will bring people in. And its working. Keep it up guys. read more

DUDE, i have found my #1 mechanic. Tim, is young and passionate about his work. i came here to put my car back to stock a few years back and have been coming back as a regular ever since. He has done alot of work on my car. if it wasnt for finding an affordable mechanic that knows what hes doing i would have probably sold my car because keeping up with maintenance is so costly on my G35. he has been able to give me great service from start to finish. his work is also fast! from my oil change being done in less than a hour to my transmission being done in a day. They are you might expect from a non commercial body shop... wait actually better!. ok so they dont know the exact price down to the dollar on a part. big deal. they dont write you estimate down. well write it down yourself. however im sure they wont mind. there customer service isnt like what you get at a stealership. whatever HONEST WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO GIVE UP AN ARM AND A LEG. i got more than what i expected from this shop. and i sure you will too i PROMISE. honestly if you feel you are being ripped off, just ask tim and he will give you the break down, i have yet been quoted by tim on a repair that was more expensive anywhere else. id like to say hes just showing me some love but im sure its the same with everyone. I feel the need to write this review based on the fact that Yelp is an invaluable tool and one which I rely on. Please note that I have not used Promise Auto Body's services so I have no idea if they do a good job or not. But, I did go in for a quote and spoke with someone I assume is the owner (an older Asian man). Please note they came "word of mouth" recommended due to their cheap price and good work! I'm so glad that I read these reviews first, otherwise the rude "customer service" I received would have probably shocked and offended me. I scraped/dented the side of my Honda Accord somewhat awfulI ! I had 5 other estimates in hand when I went in for the estimate from Promise so I had a fairly good idea of what was a fair price (the estimates I had ranged from $975 to $1400).. The paint job seemed to be what was the main difference in price. Some shops said they would take off the door panels in order to properly paint all around and others said they would just tape it and not take anything apart. The owner of Promise looked at it and gave me an immediate verbal quote of $500. A significant cut compared to my other estimates indeed! Also, he didn't write anything up or go to a computer to calculate prices like the other shops did. I guess because he's the owner, its all in his head. And I already had read a previous review on how he doesn't like to write out estimates. When I questioned him on how he would paint the door, I had to explain that some other shops were going to take apart the panels in order to do a thorough paint job. At this, the owner started to "yell" at me and kept asking me "You show me..You show me how they take off the panel. You going to cut it off?" I looked at the door, and just said, "No, it looks like the panel goes to the windshield, so you would just remove the bumper and the rear light...". At this, he scoffed and continued to yell something like "Yeah, have them show you how they do that! I charge you $8,000 for that!". At least, I think that is what he was saying. He had a fairly thick accent and was pretty angry so I'm not sure exactly what was said. But, you get the idea. Like I said, thanks to yelp, I was prepared for the rudeness, so I wasn't surprised or mad by this. All in all, if I think about it, he wasn't intentionally rude. He was just all "hyped up" and enthusiastic about his belief about paint jobs. He obviously has no concept of customer service but that could be due to the fact that he fixes cars for a living and isn't in sales or something people oriented. So, I gave 2 stars just for the fact that it was a really good price compared to my other estimates. I think if it was a smaller job and I didn't care about the quality of the paint job, like it was a scratch on the bumper or something like this, I would probably go to him. Attn single moms,newbie drivers: mr william is one damn honest mechanic who does the job fast, gives you a straight quote and doesnt recommend unneeded job. Yelped him for my pilot alternator 4 months ago..dealer charged me $100 diagnostics and quoted $800 to replace the alternator. Went to Mr william-initially had problems understanding him due to his accent..but he understood what i needFixed within 3 hrs for $240! he orders the parts from Honda. Latest visit with him due to engine light lighting up..said to observe and wait..if light will come back need to fix catalytic converter. Mr. Yu and Promise Auto Repair are simply the best auto repair and so reasonable. My car was totaled in an accident and he gave me a great deal on fixing both the front and back and sides. He was not opposed to sourcing parts from other cars instead of buying new factory parts which saved me a ton of money. He is so fair and reasonable, that since I moved from the South Bay where he is located, to West Hollywood to Altadena even 35 miles away, I continue to use him. Every time we go there, he gives us the best quote, he finishes within 4 hours, and we've never had a problem with any of his work. The dealer was going to charge us over $1,000 to fix oil pan leak, replace rear brakes, replace power steering hose, and fix gasket valve leak (or something like that). Mr. William Yu is a very nice and honest person, he may at first seem a bit abrupt but he knows his trade and his prices are very reasonable. On most weekends, he is very busy and "walk-in" service may be a challenge. If you are someone who knows what needs to be done and can get the parts yourself, it will save you quite a bit compared to going to the dealer. If you don't have the parts, he can get it for you if he doesn't have it in stock, but you'll need to give him some time. During the weekdays, it's a toss up. The place could be packed full or empty. Over the years, I've seen cars of all different makes being serviced there (one time he had a Rolls Royce) for different reasons. He can do body work has the facilities to paint cars. Most of his clients are Asian, he speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and of course English. He will not cheat you. read more

I've never had to have my car fixed before but this was an emergency and they accommodated entirely. I was pushing a deadline to get it fixed and they fixed it quickly and even stayed open late for me to drop off/pick up my car. I had scratches on the left side of my bumper and a huge dent on the right side of my bumper and the fender had been messed up from another accident last year. They were able to fix all of these very quickly and did an AMAZING JOB! I couldn't have been happier with the work they did. They sanded down the scratches, pull out the dent and fixed up the fender and put everything back together beautifullyyyy. My car is electric blue but they did a really good job of color matching and i was completely satisfied with their work. I was rear-ended a few weeks ago, and on my roommate's recommendation, took my car to Promise Auto for the body work it needed. My previous vehicle was a junker and spent a lot of time in and out of shops, and as a result, I quickly learned what makes a good mechanic--and let me tell you, the guys are Promise are worth it. The pricing is great and the work even better. They finished up a full day ahead of schedule, charged significantly less than any of the other area shops quoted me, and did beautiful work. They even touched up a few scuffs that had nothing to do with my accident, at no extra cost. You'd never know my car was in a wreck to look at it now. Beautiful work. Man, Oh Man! My car is brand new again thanks to Mr. Yue and the great guys at Promise Auto. Monday, my Toyota was hit and run in the parking garage of my work -of course, there are NO cameras. Ugh. With Rosecrans Auto Body now closed, I turned to Yelp to find one. With the most positive reviews, Promise seemed the obvious choice. I couldn't be happier. We settled on $600 for a new hood, including paint - my husband was sure I had heard wrong - "how does this guy make any money?" he asked. Well... picked up my baby today and shes beautiful. Mr. Yue even took care of other cosmetic damage- such as my fender and right rear quarter panel. Paint looked great too. I was more than willing to add on to the bill, but he wouldn't have it. My car would overheat every few days and especially when idling. Took to several places and one place said the radiator needs replacement ($260 they couldn't tell me where it was leaking) and another place said they need 2 hours to look it over. So disappointed!!!!! I trust them so I bring my own oil ( Mobil 1 15000miles) oil filter ( Fram 15000 miles) and screw to there. However, they did not use my oil filter!!! I don't even know if they replace my oil filter cuz it is same as the old one! Thus, I went back to ask them where my oil filter is, I thought they will give it me back. I've been planning to replace the broken bulb on my car's headlight for almost a month. Been driving around with only one low beam; had to use high beams when I see police around Torrance. Went to an auto parts store to pick up the replacement bulb, then called Mr. Yu at Promise Auto to see if I could schedule a time to have the bulb replaced. He said, sure, he had time. When I arrived at his shop, he greeted me a brisk hello, and confirmed if I was the person that called regarding the bulb replacement. I replied, 'sure was', and he then had his mechanic work on my car. He replaced the bulb in under five minutes. When I asked him how much I owed him, he said to not worry about it. I usually don't tip people, but I had no choice and went ahead and did it anyway. Case solved. Get in, get out. That's what most people say about Promise Auto. Often we'd agree on a time, only for me to show up and have him tell me to come back later, as he was too busy. No respect for my time. He also didn't keep very good paperwork. I had to get my neighbor's car repaired due to a minor parking lot accident. After some research, I found Promise Auto Repair on yelp and called for a quote. I spoke to Tim, super nice guy, and he gave us a great price that was $150 lower than a few local body shops. It didn't hurt when I mentioned I found him thru Yelp. Total cost = $700 to repair side quarter panel, fender, repaint.. and some other stuff. I believe Hiro quoted $850. Also, my neighbor, who's a bit of a stickler, gave me a really hard time over the repairs, stressing that it had to look perfect. Tim assured me they guaranteed their work, paint would be matched perfectly, and it would look brand new... and they did just that. When the repairs were done, my neighbor gave it his stamp of approval and said it looked brand new. What a relief! I went to Mr. Yue based on the 3 reviews i read (thanks guys!) here in Yelp, and i must say i am not disappointed though it's too early to say. I went there to have my front brake pads changed. It was actually his assitant who did the actual change but he was the one who checked the brakes. He even checked those in the back and he told me they are still okay. I bet in some other places, they will tell you that it needs changing. All in all, he charged me $90 including a tire rotation. And he did this in an hour or less. Definitely satisfied! read more
