We each had some cocktails; I loved being able to try multiple kinds of mimomas because several flavors struck my fancy. My husband liked his Bloody Mary as well. We split the French toast, which was pear flavored today. It was great! We then had avocado toast with a poached egg on top, and the eggs Benedict which was truffle flavor. Probably the WORST spot I've been to in awhile. I waited 30 minutes to be seated, which is fine, not a problem. My problem here was that me and my girlfriend were blatantly ignored by all the hosts and literally ALL the waiters. Shortly after we were seated a young couple was taken in. Immediately as they were seated, they placed their drink orders and revived them within 3 minutes of being seated. We however, didn't get any waiter to come to us & take our orders, let alone ask us for drinks. After 30 minutes of waiting with no water & no waiter introducing themselves, the frustration started kicking in. This is where it gets a little ridiculous. Another couple comes in and gets seated RIGHT to us and immediately the waiters flock to them and brought them water. When I saw that, we immediately got up and just walked out. I've never used the race card, ever, but how is it I'm the only Hispanic guy in the restaurant and I'm just completely ignored. Stay away from this place any chance u get. Came here for lunch during a conference I was attending in San Diego. Made reservations prior and we were seated right away once we checked in. Our server Colin was amazing. Very attentive and constantly made sure that we were okay. Food: - Bloody Mary: I can always use more alcohol but it was good and hit the spot. - Roasted Cauliflower: topped with Panko and was cooked perfectly. Lightly salted so it was overpowering the cauliflower. - Vegetable pita: this was really good. I liked the fact that they stuffed its with sprouts which Is a big fan of. - Lemon panna cotta: this was topped with a brittle like crisp and rosemary. The panna cotta was not overly sweet and went well with the crisp. Perfect ending to our lunch! Overall the atmosphere was very nice, service on point and the food was great. Went here last night for drinks & dinner. Made a reservation but it wasn't too crowded when I was there. Had a great experience. The decor is beautiful. Valet was easy and can't wait to go back!! Waiter was extremely helpful and went out of his way to ask the chef if it's possible to make a dish that's only served Sunday's. I've had Good food here previously but abysmal service when I returned. At the hostess table we waited 5 min despite having at least 15 open tables, she was just that slow. Sat down and wasn't greeted by a server for 15 min. Finally a waitress walks by and says "has anyone greeted you?" We reply "no" and she walks away with out a word. She came back 5 min later with water and menus. 5 more minutes, asked for our order...we asked for a wine menu. She told us we should go next door if we just wanted drinks but that she would get us a wine menu. 10 minutes later she walks by, says nothing and does not give us a menu. I am writing this review two weeks late and I was reminded only because I lay in bed thinking of Provisional kitchen's delicious and amazing rice pudding. Yummmmmy. I stayed at the Pendry with my husband and two children 2 and 5 yr old. We only went to the restaurant because it was convenient but we were in for a pleasant surprise. The service was amazing and food was phenomenal. From the salad to the rice pudding, everything was delicious. My husband and I I definitely over ate after a long, tiring day at seaworld. I have been to this restaurant many times. Today was terrible. We had a reservation at 11:30 am, two hours before the Padres game which I felt was plenty of time. We were there by 11:20 am and were told we would be seated closer to our reservation time. We went to the bar and ordered two bloody Mary's. We were seated at 11:30 am and ordered breakfast by 11:40 am. Our waiter never came to the table to fill water after he took our order but he showed up at 12:30 pm with a fruit plate, compliments of the chef because we had been waiting so long. I told him we were going to the Padres game and asked how much longer would it be. His response was 3 min. We sat there another 15 min and nothing. We got up and left. I want to start off with the space is amazing. It may be worth a visit for this reason alone. The food is just mediocre and their service SUCKED (on a dead night). We started off with the veal meatballs in a red sauce. The sauce was nothing to write home about and the meatballs were pretty basic with a little bit of heat (and cheese). We then had the filet mignon tartare (came very late as if the server forgot it). What a disappointment. I'm a fan of tartare of any kind and this one was a bit odd. Tartare is about celebrating the meat with very little spice and such mixed in. They minced the filet almost to mush and mixed with all these vegetable and spices to the point it was hard to place the meat. The real sacrilege was they topped it with grated cheese ! Not sure why. I guess they come from a mindset anything taste better smothered in cheese. For my main course I had the steamed mussels and these were quite good. My main complaint was our server . . . The Great Houdini. It was like he was there and then he wasn't. Our water glasses went unfilled and never asked us if we wanted another drink. We had to bring it up to him. The appetizers were weirdly spaced ( I think he forgot them) and he was basically no where to be found. Thank god for the cute ginger haired server who helped us out. The food here is good, really excellent. However, the wait staff are not attentive during breakfast hours. 3 days in a row, it's been difficult to get refills on coffee, get a ticket in a timely manner, or even place an order. They seem distracted-The waitress this morning actually splashed water all over my face and didn't even notice and walked off seeking our late arriving food. It is nearly impossible to find your waiter when you need anything. The place wasn't even busy, and there were multiple wait staff on duty, and there was no way to find our waitress. The manager was nice when we asked for help. Luckily the self-serve coffee bar is nearby, so we could get some refills without seeking to find the waiter/waitress. Not going back. I came by Provisional Kitchen for brunch with a friend. Located in the Pendry Hotel, the Instagram worthy décor sets the perfect ambience. With the high ceiling and chandeliers to the Moet vending machine the design is pretty and contemporary. The brunch menu has plenty of good options including crepes, French toast, matcha pancakes, create your own omelet, and wood fired pizzas. You're sure to find something you like here, and want to come back to try something else from the menu. We made a reservation via OpenTable and our waiter greeted us by name. For brunch, I had the hibiscus lavender mimosa ($11) and the angus beef burger with bacon ($21). There are lots of unique mimosas on the menu so if you want to try a few you can get a mimosa flight of 3 for $15. My friend had the blackberry mojito mimosa and said it was quite good. The burger was juicy and included an heirloom tomato and bibb lettuce. It's a big burger and I only ate half so the server offered to wrap up the leftovers. I never did get those leftovers, and sadly it only occurred to me after I got home. Our waiter was in training, so that might have been why it happened. There were a couple other interesting snafus. The salt and pepper shakers were mixed up, so when my friend thought she was putting salt on her omelet she actually got pepper. It wasn't a big deal though since she put both on her food. Our server brought us condiments for our meals well in advance of when the food arrived and then again more showed up by mistake once the food was there. They just seemed a little bit disorganized. Our water came with lemon and lime, which was a nice touch. We considered getting the churros for dessert, but were feeling kind of full. So, to gauge if it was worth it or not we asked one of our waiters how he would rate the churros on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the best. He said 3. I've wanted to try this restaurant for quite sometime and this Sunday I finally had my first brunch at Provisional. We've made a reservation through an open table two days prior, so when we arrived we were seated right away. Staff is very inviting and attentive, our server explained everything on the menu as well as house favorites. The first thing I loved is how charming the ambiance is. First, we ordered a double chocolate pancakes to share(3 of us), portion is pretty big so I would recommend either sharing it or getting just the pancakes especially if you are not that hungry. We also shared an avocado toast, breakfast pizza(my favorite) and Pendry's breakfast, sooo much food we weren't able to finish it all. Now I'm looking forward to dine in here! read more

After standing and waiting in Comic Con lines it was time for some nourishment so we stopped in to try the Provisional Kitchen Cafe around 1pm today. I became very concerned when we had questionable service, once we arrived at the hostess desk, we had to wait for her to finish texting (since when is it appropriate to text on your smartphones while working!). When we were finally escorted to a table, I looked at the menu, went to go use the restroom and there was still no server to greet us or take drink orders. I finally had to ask a very nice server, Jake, who was more than happy to be our server even though we weren't at one of his stations. The food was excellent, fish sandwich and kale salad. Finally! After days of exploring San Diego's food scene, I've found a breakfast gem. The ambiance, interior design, live music, and rustic theme greatly compliment the Sunday brunch experience. Latte- wonderful. Great presentation Avocado toast- willing to split order and cut the toast in half. Also tasted Amazing! Breakfast pizza- delicious with a little pepper French toast - wonderful presentation and the combination of flavors (apples/ syrup/ mascarpone ) were magnificent. Provisional is a nicely designed restaurant, their food is very good however their Service is terrible and server very rude. Aside the hair on my wife's cutlery, which they did not apologize for. I got charged $3 for a single ice cube in my whiskey drink. This is a standard in LA. I have never even heard of a restaurant charging for ice. Moving on, we wanted to move from a 4-person table to a 2-person booth from the beginning of the night and I had asked if they can move us. The restaurant was not at all busy and I have asked more than two times, after seeing at least two booths available the entire night. I felt like we were being ignored and so we had to end our night early and go somewhere else. We are definitely not coming back here. This was the most ridiculously overpriced and underwhelming brunch I've have ever had. $18 Carnitas hash: 3 slices of potatoes, 4 bites of carnitas and 1 poached egg in a cup of salsa verde $23 Benedict: was supposed to be crab cakes, but they were out, my son got cured salmon instead. Came out with on 2 tiny English muffins a la Carte. Almost all of their brunch items are served a la carte. It's $7 to get potatoes or fruit. $? Breakfast Pizza: don't remember the price, was a huge portion, and tasty, but the egg white were still runny. Came in for my wife's 35th birthday. Server was oddly frazzled considering that it wasn't that busy, offered no suggestions and didn't introduce himself. The restaurant was beautiful, but the menu was so overpriced considering what you get, I would definitely advise anyone to look elsewhere for brunch in SD. read more
