Loved everything about my visit. Came in on a Sunday night and was seated right away. Our server was quick and attentive and knew the menu pretty well. My husband and I ordered the 24 oz steak, two sides, and an appetizer and it was all really good. Definitely recommend the bone in rib eye and the Brussel sprouts. I love the atmosphere at this place but unfortunately the food & service both left something to be desired. If only the chef and servers could step it up, this place could knock it out of the park. I tasted a good representation of items as we were there for restaurant week brunch. The kale salad portion was small and lacked any flavor at all (I was eager to taste the preserved lemon dressing!) and the fish sandwich was such a small filet and dry. I had to pay extra to add fries to this plate and I think I'd have left hungry if I had not, as the sandwich was so disappointing. We ordered mimosas which were so delayed, I had to tell the server to cancel them. The server brought them anyway towards the end of our meal and they were actually the best thing we tried - nicely presented with house made syrups. Had the avocado toast, açaí yogurt, regular fruit yogurt, and the breakfast burrito. All were very well made and tasteful. The açaí was the probably best. The breakfast burrito eggs/sauce used was a little wet so the burrito overall felt a little soggy and was hard to hold at the end. Only complaint would be giving the $$ rating. Should be more like $$$. $17 for a breakfast burrito is pretty expensive when you can get one from a fast food joint for $7. So I'd expect a $$ to be $10-$15 range read more

Very very pleased with last nights Dinner. We were staying at The Pendry for four nights and decided at last minute to go here for dinner. We were hesitant to eat there as dinning in a Hotel restaurant is typically not the best choice we have experienced in the past. Let me tell you how good everything was. We shared a flatbread pizza and my wife had the Brick Chicken while I had the Bucatini with Pork sausage. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. Great food and great service. There were hardly any patrons here which really surprised us. The atmosphere and the prices seem to be in reason for a restaurant of this caliber. Gave this place a try last night and although there were a lot of checks in the "win" column, the other column took a couple hits. The wins, olive and heirloom carrot appetizer, awesome, and it came up quick. Main course, the sweet potato ravioli, impeccable; the sausage/pasta, heavy on the sausage but the flavors and pasta were outstanding; the veggie medley, my sister in law thought was most excellent. Win, Win, Win for the kitchen! Now, the other side of the coin. Ordered the Caesar salad which was chalked full of radicchio that was too bitter to eat. Even my wife, who's into that kind of bitter greens didn't eat it. And the rest of the lettuce was basically white romaine. Very little green to the salad. The dressing was decent and loved the thin, crispy croutons and ample Parmesan. Now the biggest flaw was the service. Our waitress was very savvy about the menu, even commented on that after she took our orders, but she was a drop, dash and never check in type. And, it wasn't busy. I think we were her only table. Before I could ask for cracked pepper for the salad, she vanished and didn't come back until we were done. When she did return to pick up the plates before the next course, she didn't even ask how the salad was seeing all the radicchio still covering the dish. Did I mention there was a lot of radicchio? And after the main course was served, Houdini'd on us. We had to ask another server for our bill. Would have enjoyed dessert, but ran out of time. It's sad when the easiest of customer service is missed. For a restaurant of this caliber, unacceptable. That said, everyone has a bad day and hopefully, that was the case with our server. SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE / FOOD WAS GOOD Poor Service, Poorly Trained Serving Staff - Sat at our bar seat for 15+ minutes before we had to walk back up to the hostess to request to have a waiter come to us. - dirty dishes will sit at a table next to you (after the patron has left) while you eat your meal. When the staff finally did clean the area they would remove the dishes and use NO cleaning agent to sanitize the table. (Saw this happen (4) times. - the Waiters had to cover multiple tables and were bussing the tables and providing coffee. So they are spread thin and not able to provide any timely attentive service. - Bussers were around but slow to clean up a mess after a patron left. The restaurant was not busy so It did not seem like overwhelming conditions. - Some staff seem to linger behind the bar area and stare out at the tables (which is extremely irritating when your waiting 15min for some basic coffee). -------------------------------------------------- FOOD 4 STARS - we had the breakfast sandwich, avocado & egg toast and Crab Benedict. We liked the food. It was very presentable. (picture perfect) Came out in a timely manner. - vanilla latte (was good) - French press coffee was disgusting (bitter). OVERALL - WOULD NOT GO BACK. Ok, maybe 3.5. Yes, it's very pretty and I really liked my pesto potatoes. Draw backs... 1) service is slow and it wasn't busy and 2) they don't provide an itemized receipt unless you ask and then they want to email it later. After I signed and added tip it was provided, and of course I had some issues on charges. What a pain! I suppose it was my fault for not noticing that cheese is considered an option for the omelette. Went at 10AM and waited around 10 minutes for a table. The food came out fairly quickly and everything was on point. The egg benedict was the highlight of our meal and the specialty egg sandwich was one of the best I've eaten. Stopped by to grab lunch for restaurant week. As it was one of those working lunches with my laptop, the hostess suggested a communal table by the cafe area. After sitting 7 or 8 minutes I flag down a server - I'm told people in that area are supposed to order from the counter. The hostess did not mention that... she simply grabbed a menu and sat me. In any case, the server apologizes and things go smoothly from there. I order a burger which is excellent and a chocolate pot w/ a fruit puree for desert which was equally awesome. They comped a soda for the initial mixup. I frequently do lunches like this as I live downtown and work from home... can see making this a place to visit a couple times a month and esp. when co-workers come into town. Local ostrich egg breakfast alert!!! Yes, we took on the challenge of consuming an entire ostrich egg platter. The sausages, bacon, potatoes/veggies, and bread were all very complementary to the ostrich egg. The egg whites were so fluffy and savory which I really enjoyed eating with the potatoes. When my friend made the reservation we thought it was $75 but when we arrived and ordered we realized it was actually $90. For $90 though, I felt that they could've been a little more generous with some of the vegetables and potatoes at least because we had a lot of egg left with nothing to go with it. On another note, I absolutely loved the interior design of this restaurant, long sleek walls with contrasting colors and bright shimmering lights hanging overhead. The booths along the side of the restaurant had a more antique look, with wooden tables and walls and glossy reflective window panes. I just finished visiting this restaurant today, I like the live music, charming decor and the food was on par overall, but service was terrible. Sat through the entire breakfast without someone refilling coffee, water, or taking plates away. The table was small, so the plates were just piling. Maybe they were busy, maybe I will get a better experience next time, maybe I can get better experience elsewhere. Btw, there was also the wobbly table and the dirty fork. read more

This place was super cute. The bar was awesome and the service was great. They get a 2 though for the food(dinner). We were 10 people who spent about $800 and man their food is so mediocre which sucks because the ambiance of the restaurant is super cool and the place is fun. We ordered multiple pizzas, salads, a few of the tomahawks and multiple pasta dishes. I don't think anyone loved their food but this place definitely has potential. I have never left a review before nor got so upset to the point I had to walk out. I am very patient and understanding knowing that it's Downtown San Diego. I didn't mind waiting for 30 minutes to be seated. But once me and my partner got seated we ended up waiting another 30 minutes, the waiters and hosts completely ignored us, no one even bothered to ask us for water. Of course we wanted to be positive and maybe assume they were backed up. But everyone around us was being served and all the waiters just passed us and glanced at us without saying a word. And the tipping point was someone next to us got seated and the host immediately brought them water and asked what they would like. I had to lock eye contact for him to even come to the table then he had the audacity to ask has someone helped us now after 30 minutes, and he walked away, but please please don't come here. It's better to go to the other nice places around here for brunch and actually get served. I expected high quality for it being so overpriced, but couldn't even get waited on lol read more

Bread uninspiring. Fries that came with sandwiches. Decent, predictable, boring. Pork Cubano $15. Meat lacking in flavor and richness. Not what you expect from a Cuban sandwich. Caprese $14. Our table was ready about 15 minutes later, our waitress grabbed our bottle of wine and brought us to our table. we kindly informed her my girlfriend was highly allergic to nuts and she spent several minutes of her time customizing the menu and personally speaking to the chef so that she wouldnt have an allergic reaction. Came here for Mother's Day Brunch special and it was an uhhhhhhh mazing. My Wife was so impressed by the service and spread that I may not ever have to sleep on the couch again! j.k . Anyhow, this fine establishment had a live singer playing some modern tunes. A flower bouquet station where the kids can make their own bouquet of flowers for the Mamas in the house that day. They had an amazing spread from seafood to comfort food to desserts and gelatos. Crepes, risotto w/ cheese imported and scraped fresh from some far away place I can't even pronounce. The place was perfect for that day and right on 5th where there was an Artisan Craft market was going on too. Attached to this fine establishment is Pendry, the hotel. Staying at the pendry was such a fun experience, but the experience as Provisional made it even better. The people working here are super nice, food is incredible, and the atmosphere is amazing! For my meal I ordered the baby kale pizza which had kale, leeks, onion, and lemon ricotta. Only complaint was that the crust was so thin it was kind of falling apart. But excellent otherwise. My mom and sister got the cauliflower rice and didn't like it much, they didn't really know what to expect when ordering it. I thought it was good though. My dad got a margherita pizza which was also yummy. Oh and the bread! It was delicious, the dehydrated butter kind of tasted like nothing though. We also got delicious broccolini. The dessert was incredible, gelato! The guy working there was super sweet and let us taste a bunch. We each got a different flavor and shared. My sister got a macaron and loved it. Really cool place! We ordered the Savory breakfast with French press coffee and it just happened that The Donut Shop had a " pop up " of donuts at the hotel , which was an added bonus . Food was absolutely yummy ! Our waiter , Oscar, was attentive and charming and our outdoor seating area was just perfect for what we were looking for . This place is super cute! It is exactly what you'd expect to find in a city! I came here for breakfast on a Saturday to celebrate a birthday and we were pleasantly surprised at how amazing everything tasted and looked. Our server Arlene - was very friendly and offered an array of suggestions. Their breakfast menu is relatively small but they have all the essential breakfast items. I ordered the Pendry breakfast which was two eggs protein potatoes and toast. Super simple breakfast but they have their own twist on some of the items. The potatoes were seasoned with pesto and tasted delicious. Other items that were ordered were their breakfast sandwiches, latte, cold brew, and sherbet mimosa. The presentation was cute and the staff was friendly. The environment is very clean and very modern. Parking can be a problem if you're coming on a week day because it's downtown - but other than that I would definitely come back.
