Wonderful and friending staff. Showed up at 8pm, they normally close at 9:30pm but they closed at 8:30pm tonight. Was greeted at the door and ordered to go, had planned on that but was a little more cautious since when I arrive the staff said they were closing at 8:30pm. I completely understand it's late at night and staff might want to leave. However, I am here on business and would like a decent meal after a long days work and y'all seem to be one of the only spots open. The mac & cheese was super delicious. The $46 filet mignon was definitely not worth the price. The side roasted potatoes tasted terrible. The accompanying sauce for the steak hardly made up for the almost bland taste of the steak. This is a very nice restaurant. The staff is really friendly, professional and courteous. The food is very good as well. There are lots of great menu items. I liked that they identify on the menu which selections are gluten-free. This was especially helpful for me since I'm trying to avoid gluten. If you want to eat at a nice restaurant that is much better than average cuisine, close to fine dining but doesn't necessarily break the bank, this is the place. Arriving at my hotel at 8 PM, I settled on this non-chain restaurant because the hours say they are open until 10. Well, they are but employees aren't happy about it. When I arrived at 8:30, there weren't many people and the place had the feel of getting ready to close. It took at least five minutes for the hostess , who was none too friendly, to appear and seat me. Then it took another five to be recognized at the table. After that, things picked up. I ordered a few easy dishes because I don't like eating a large meal late. The server was on the ball and she checked frequently to see if I needed anything. One item that stood out was the shrimp cocktail as it came with excellent homemade cocktail sauce. The atmosphere was somewhat pretentious, you are surely paying for it. This is a must try if you want an amazing meal. Head and shoulders above my expectations and I was beyond shocked to find this caliber in a smaller town. We really wanted to try the Elk but opted for meatloaf (amazing and made with duck too), lamb Lolly pops, slamon, Mac and cheese and kids chicken tenders. Everything was amazing. Even the fries that came with the kids tenders! We rounded off dinner with a milkshake for the kids and a donut bread pudding for the adults. WOW. Again- both didn't disappoint. The shake was a unique but delightful combo and the bread pudding....unlike others and worth every bite. Was happy to see a more modern-rustic comfort food restaurant come to Amarillo. I loved the interior with all it's clean white walls, wood accents, rustic/industrial feel. It made me feel like I was back in the big city and not up in North Texas. It was very clean and quiet at 10:00AM on a Saturday, but did pick up around 11:30. I'd give the interior a 5 star, but the bathrooms seemed to be an afterthought. I know that may sound strange, but when I give 5 stars you can bet the bathrooms are pretty awesome too and I feel they should always be considered in the restaurant design. We arrived for brunch, so I didn't sample much of their extensive boutique wines, but was impressed with what they had. They had a nice cocktail list as well. I did sample the DELICIOUS BLOODY MARY a few times (house infused pepper vodka, pickled okra, fresh mozzarella, beef jerky rim) and it was spicy and 'delicious' for sure. I opted to not have the jerky rim however since I'm a vegetarian. I also love whiskey so I did want to check out how their OLD FASHIONED held up to others. It was OK, but I agree with another reviewer and they need to do some thought process on their ice they serve it with. If you're going to have an extensive whiskey list - get some good solid large cubes - it will make a difference. As for food, I opted for the vegetarian CHILE RELLENO OMELET (w/queso fresco, roasted tomato-chipotle salsa). I thought it was pretty good, but I would have like to see them pull a it more flavor into it. The hash browns were perfect: crispy & not greasy. My mom also had this, but sampled my sister's BREAKFAST ENCHILADAS and said she liked them better - that it had way more flavor. I'd expect that since it has chorizo! And being it was a special brunch we did opt for some desserts. I'm a huge CREME BRULEE fan & theirs did not disappoint. Crisp top, fresh blueberries and a smooth, delicious caramel custard base. I'd go back just for that. They also had a nice selections of port which I wish I had sampled. My mom got the DONUT BREAD PUDDING with salted caramel and it was pretty dang scrumptious as well! Overall I was pretty impressed with the food quality. Service was also good. She was attentive without being overbearing, but I'd prefer that if you are not 100% sure of what's in the food - then just go ask. Don't him & haw and them have me ask you to go ask. There are people who don't eat certain things out there and I don't expect my server to know every ingredient for sure, but you want to boost your customers' confidence in what they are getting simply saying "I don't know, let me find out" if a perfectly acceptable response. I'd certainly come back to the Public House next time I'm back. There were just a few small details that keep me from giving it the 5 stars I think it could hit. read more

We had a group of business men sitting next to us, so obviously you don't really want to arrive in shorts and flip flops. Everyone seemed to enjoy their American entrees but the general consensus was that portions were pretty small for the price. They provide regular menus, a wine menu, and a daily menu. I chose the grouper from the daily menu and it was about $34. The fish tasted fairly fresh (for Amarillo) and I was the first to finish eating. Usually I'm the last to finish. Others at the table ordered entrees in the $15-20 range. Service was excellent as expected, but I did leave pretty hungry. We always try Caesar salad because my husband thinks that's the best way to "judge" every restaurant and it put our #1 restaurant that's in LA to shame.. it was the best Caesar salad we have ever had AND that was just our lead into dinner. Bacon wrapped stuffed chicken and meatloaf (made with duck) and a Demi glacé sauce... OMG! We kept trying to steal bites off each other's plates not knowing which was our favorite. I never write reviews unless a place is exceptionally good. I can describe Public House in one word: Perfection. I highly recommend Public House to anyone who is looking for restaurant with many gluten-free options that has expertly prepared food in a calm and relaxed atmosphere with friendly and attentive service at a reasonable price. Now, for those of you who would like some details: Public House was beautifully decorated in muted tones. The servers were very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. The chef and his assistants really know what they're doing professionally. The dinner that my wife and I had serves as an example: To start off, my wife and I had two appetizers: 5 "Armadillo Eggs" ($13.00) slightly spicy jalapeños stuffed with crab meat, and wrapped with bacon and 4 Lamb Chop Lollipops ($27.00) cooked medium, in a slightly sweet sauce on a bed of arugula. Both of these appetizers exceeded our expectations, and served as a perfect start to the meal. As for our entrees: The high quality gluten-free Texas Toast for my wife's Pimento Cheese and Chicken Sandwich ($15.00 with a cup of soup) was toasted and buttered just right to make it a wonderfully flavorful complement to the deliciously seasoned chicken and cheese, and the melt-in-your-mouth bacon. Public House has many gluten-free options on their menu, which we're sure will be just as tasty. I requested my Angus Burger ($16.00, plus $2.00 for bacon, and $2.00 for Sweet Potato Fries) be cooked between medium-rare and medium, which it was. The seasoning couldn't have been better. The fries were not overly salted as they are in many other places, which brought out the flavor of the sweet potatoes much more. The Prime Rib and Mushroom Soup which we both had (hers was included; my bowl was $8.00) combined the umami of the mushrooms with the meatiness of the chunks of prime rib and the creamy goodness of of the melted cheese to make it amazingly delicious. To top it off, we shared their Ooey Gooey Butter Cake for dessert ($9.00). It was topped with caramel and slightly sweet whipped cream and a strawberry slice. (Since we were sharing, they put dollops of whipped cream and extra strawberry slices on each side of the cake.) These ingredients combined to make the perfect dessert. read more

To begin with, our waiter was professional, helpful, friendly and an obvious committed "foody". His explanation and conservation was very enjoyable and enlightening. He was very interested in our opinions and impression and obviously committed to improvement. I started with the prime rib/mushroom soup. And it was.....spectacular and almost worth the visit on its own. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits offering. She like the grits but complained that the shrimp didn't smell or taste fresh. Yes, we realize we are hundreds of miles from the coast. It is obvious the shrimp took a bit too long to get to Amarillo but encouraged that it was never frozen. I ordered the stuffed chicken. It was more of stuffed bacon with sides of potatoes and broccoli. The entree was okay but the potatoes were flavorless and mushy. We got one of their fresh muffins to start and that was actually the best part of my meal. For my entree I got a chicken sandwich and my friend got an omelette.
