Grendel's makes good coffee drinks, and the staff members are all super friendly! This coffee shop is really cute and has nice indoor and outdoor coffee. The prices are a bit high for my preference, but everything I have tried (drinks and food) has tasted really good. full stop this place was so good. the bagel sandwich was amazing for something so simple and i liked that they had a good variety of toppings you could put in it. I also had a chocolate chip cookie and it was such a good size and perfectly baked and delicious. Wonderful menu of coffee/espresso/tea options. After considering three or four options, I settled on the orange cardamom latte with 1/2 oat milk 1/2 hot water.. delicious and hot, Garlic bagel with egg, sausage pattie and provolone. So delicious and filling. Staff was attentive, friendly and efficient in creating the delights of the morning. No line, no waiting , but continuous customers while I was there. This coffee shop is tucked away in a corner, but it was absolutely filled with people. Had no idea this was near grand ave. I tried the "salty dog" which is their homemade salted caramel latte. 10/10 flavor. Not much seating options, but we were lucky to get the seats along the window. Stayed in Portland for a couple of days and going to Grendel"s was my favorite part of the morning. It's a local coffee shop that serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian sandwich's with a great selection of caffeinated and non caffeinated drinks. Staff was always very friendly and works their a#% off. When it gets busy it takes a little while to get your order but totally understandable and worth it. The spot is a little small but has plenty of seating outside as an alternative. read more

Made a quick stop here on my way to event. One of the rare occasions I don't have time to look at Yelp to choose a spot but the coffee aroma and smell of fresh baked goods lured me in from the sidewalk. The staff were friendly, answered questions and got orders out quickly. There is some seating to work or chill but I think this place is largely a come-and-go spot. I ordered the golden latte which has turmeric and it tasted pretty good! Light in flavor but perfect forthiness. I was able to sub milk with oat easily (can't remember if it was extra). I also got an almond croissant for a friend because it looks soo good! Friend had no complaints on the pastry. Would recommend making a stop! read more

Stopped in for delicious coffee and pastries from returning our rental car just down the street from this coffee house. The coffee smells lured us right in and boy were we happy about it. This spot was a little busy on a Friday morning with folks coming in to get caffeinated and the staff was super friendly with everyone who walked in by greeting each one of us. This shop seems to be close to a performing arts spot, perhaps? Most of the flyers and even the art was around dancers and performance art. I loved looking at all of the fantastic large photography art around the shop. We ended up getting a lavender latte and a cold brew to enjoy out on the patio since it seems that Portland always has the best weather in the Fall. read more

The shop was clean with a few tables and window bar areas for seating, if you are coming here to do work on a laptop just be ware that it is in an older building where outlets are not regularly accessible for most seating. I came here twice because it was across the street from my hotel but on top of the convenience the food and drinks were delicious and priced very reasonably, and the staff was friendly and communicative even when they were slammed. Grendel's is one of those places that makes you super glad to be living in Portland as the food is dangerously delicious and the people who work here are legitimately some of the kindest, friendliest, and most down to earth people you will interact with all week. Their breakfast sandwiches are not only affordable, but wicked filling and satisfying as well. Their pastries are my weakness and it's a rare occurrence when I leave Grendel's without an Almond Croissant or some sort of berry infused pastry. I've also tried their coffee a number of times and have always been impressed (as have some of my more serious coffee-drinking friends)! I'm a sucker for a good breakfast sandwich. This morning, as I was heading to my shop, I had a hankering for a bagel with eggs, cheese and bacon. I did a quick Yelp! search for "bagels" and discovered Grendel's a few blocks off my normal commute, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Early Sunday morning visit meant no problem finding a parking spot (often an issue when I try to go somewhere in that neighborhood). Noting, they don't appear to make their own bagels... but they have a breakfast sandwich on the menu, so, I was fine with that. The people were kind and friendly, and, although I forgot to suggest they toast the bagel, the breakfast sandwich was *really* good. The bacon. THE BACON!!! It was so effing good. I mean... I like bacon, but this was extra smoky and exceptionally good. I will most certainly be back for another the next time I'm in the need (but note to self: ask for toasted bagel). read more

My evaluation criteria: 1) is the coffee good, 2) will it make a good study spot, 3) would I meet here for a cute coffee date. I got a small decaf mocha with soymilk. $5 is pretty steep for a small coffee but it was decent. A little too sweet for my tastes tho. No inside dining, probably on account of covid. However, the inside is small and bland so I wouldnt want to hang out inside anyway. There are a few tables outside, but they are next to a busy street so not ideal for lingering. This seems like a good place to pick up a quick cup of coffee but I'll pass it up for any of the other cute cafes in town. read more

While I do love drinking overpriced coffee, potentially burnt coffee, it's great to get out from under my beloved corporate overlords from time to time. This place was the perfect break and I would work well for Tinder dates or catching up with friends. The two ladies working behind the counter were very nice to talk to and made our orders rather quick. Ordered: Salty Dog- a salted caramel type drink, which had some hearts decorated in the center.
