Small dining areas are common. Every square inch of space is precious. Me, my sister, and our families were very early for a boat ride, and on a wet, hot, summer day were looking for ways to kill some time. There were seven of us. We saw a couple of folks from our party enjoying a pre-boat snack and popped in to say hi. There were two servers who deserve special commendation, but my receipts only show one: Christopher. I suspect it was Christopher who invite the seven of us to sit down. I tell him that we are only interested in drinks, but he insists he would be happy to wait on us at one of the tables. He then proceeds to push together a couple of tables so we can all sit down. What happens next is something out of a classic Hollywood comedy. Other people who are booked on the same boat ride, many of which I haven't seen for decades, all of whom are people I love, start slowly arriving. More tables are pushed together. Chairs are found from around the room. My wife and child feel like they want to sink and hide into the banquette. Christopher and his colleague are unfazed. I excuse myself and privately apologize to Christopher for the madness and assure him that we will take care of him. Drinks are ordered and delivered. People are caffeinated, dry, comfortable, and happy. Service is impeccable even as we seem to be overwhelming the barista with orders. When it was time to board, I took care of the bill, and gave the service team over 100% in gratuity. It felt like the right thing to do. Seriously this may have been the single greatest service experience in my life. It could have gone south in a variety of ways, but the kindness, warmth, and hospitality helped to get our family reunion started on a beautiful note. Bravo!
